Of Murder and Men by Lynn Cahoon is the third in her Cat Latimer Mystery series and the best one yet.

Ms. Cahoon as written a cozy mystery that is both complex and deeply emotional for both Cat and Shauna. The writers retreat introduces us to a charming new crew of hopeful new authors, including Shirley, a retired Alaska detective who has captured Uncle Pete's attention. The murder of Shauna's boyfriend/fiance' sends Cat into Nancy Drew mode to help Uncle Pete investigate who wanted Kevin dead. There is also the continuing story of Michael's past and who wanted him dead and why. There were so many suspects, twists and layers to each of the murders that I just had to keep turning the pages. A smoothly paced plot and well developed characters that have continued to grow throughout the series makes this a favorite of mine. Ms. Cahoon's descriptive writing of Aspen Hills makes me wish I could visit Cat and Shauna.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Kensington via NetGalley. All of the above opinions are my own.

Of Murder and Men is the third book in Lynn Cahoon’s Cat Latimer Mystery series. Cat is hosting another Writer's Retreat at her home in Aspen Hills, Colorado, and everything is going fine except her partner, Shauna keeps disappearing to be with her fiancee. Then one morning Shauna arrives extremely late for her cooking duties, only to reveal that he has disappeared. Later, Uncle Pete the sheriff finds him dead in the barn. In the meantime, Cat is dealing with cleaning out her ex-husband's study and reviewing his papers, still ruminating on the true cause of his death.

I liked the two separate mysteries, although the answer to Michael's seemed a bit anti-climatic. The reveal of Kevin's was completely the opposite though!

My one complaint is that having never read a book from this series before, I hated Shauna straight out of the gate. I understand that Cat would be annoyed with her. But the way it was presented immediately in the first chapter, it was hard for me to like Shauna later. Also, I never did understand the animosity between Shauna and Sean. Both people vvying for Cat's attention? But Sean was very ready to believe she killed him...

Overall, great characters and an interesting plot. Good read.

This is the third Cat Latimer mystery, and in my opinion, they get better and better. Cat runs writer retreats with her friend Shauna from her home in Colorado. Cat's ex-husband Michael died mysteriously and left the house to her. Cat has to sort out his papers, and she wants to solve the mystery of his death.
The January retreat starts and the writers arrive. Shauna is distracted by her fiance Kevin, who's a jerk. When Kevin is found murdered, Cat investigates. She gets some help from her latest crew of writers, one of whom is a retired detective.

The characters, the plot and the setting of this book were outstanding. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is another really great book in this series. We get some more answers and information about Michael which I found very satisfying. The new characters were great, the main mystery was great. I highly recommend this series to someone looking for a new cozy mystery series.

This is the third book in the Cat Latimer Mystery series. Cat and Shauna are doing a writer's retreat again. Cat is still reeling from Michael's murder and Shauna is engaged to Kevin. But Kevin gets murdered and all hands point to Shauna. So Cat gets her detective cap on. Join her on this journey. Will Cat be able to solve Kevin's murder? Is there something wrong with Michael's death? Read to find out
I'm fan of cozy mysteries, so when I came across this title and the cover, I had to read it. The only problem was that this was the third book in the series and I hadn't read the other two, but most of the stuff was mentioned so it was ok. I love culinary cozy mysteries, and this had lots of food involved.
Recommend for cozy mystery lovers

Love this series. Cat and Shauna make a great pair running the writers retreats while solving crimes. Who killed Cat's ex-husband? Was he working for the mob? These and many other questions are asked while they work to find the person who murdered Shauna's boyfriend.

I am a big fan of Lynn Cahoon's books and this is one of her very best. Cat Latimer and her friend Shauna are running a writer's retreat when Shauna's boyfriend is killed with a type of poison Shauna recently purchased. When she becomes a suspect Cat starts to investigate because she is sure of Shauna's innocence. At the same time Cat is involved in trying to find out what was behind the murder of her former husband. This is complex story with many layers. I especially liked that the author brought in the one of the characters from her South Cove series and tied her into this plot. It was a great read.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the E-Arc copy of this novel.
Cat Latimer is back with another mystery. Shauna's new love interest is found dead and it puts Cat back in the game of trying to find out who wanted to kill him for revenge. Lynn Cahoon has a great series for cozy mystery lovers. I really like the retreat backdrop. I think that Colorado is very well portrayed in this series. I hope to read the next one when it comes out. I think that this is probably the strongest book of the series.

Just because Shauna was seen with rat poison before Kevin, her jerk of a fiancé, was found dead of....poison, doesn't mean she did it- at least to Cat. Cat's dealing with a lot right now, what with the death of her husband Michael, running a writers retreat and trying to write her own book. There's a couple of interesting plot lines in this well written cozy, not least of which is the mystery of Michael. I'd not read the first two books in the series but I don't think I missed anything and, in fact, now I'm looking forward to more. Kevin is a more complicated creep than he appears on the surface and there are enough suspects to make this twisty. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

I was so happy to be back in Colorado with Cat Latimer. Lynn Cahoon has created another sparkling mystery set in a college town at a writer's retreat. When a murder ensues there are suspects galore, along with the unsolved death of Cat's former husband. While some things are resolved in 'Of Murder and Men', there are several great hooks for future books in the series. I look forward to more with great anticipation.

Stepping into a book by Lynn Cahoon is like stepping through the door into a good friend's house.
Cat Latimer is the perfect host for authors who want to become part of the writer's retreat.
Cat's life changed drastically with the death of her ex husband and the mystery surrounding his death continues to nag Cat.
As Cat is preparing for the next retreat, she begins to wonder if her friend and partner Shauna has the time to devote to the retreat and the guests. Her new boyfriend has taken up a lot of her time and Cat is worried about being able to carry the work load. Luckily for Cat, she has Seth, her high school sweetheart who has since become a special part of her life.
When tragedy strikes close to home, Cat is once again embroiled in another mystery.
I could not put this book down. From the moment I read the first line, I knew the exceptional Lynn Cahoon would keep me on the edge of my seat and would lead me into a story filled with good friends, entertaining characters and a mystery full of twists and turns.
Fans of this series won't want to miss this fantastic addition to the series.

I voluntarily read an ARC of this book offered by the publisher and Netgalley.

If you're a fan of the Cat Latimer series, you won't be disappointed in this third book! We learn more about Cat's deceased ex-husband and Shauna's boyfriend Kevin, and of course meet the new group of writers at Cat's writer's retreat. When another murder hits too close to home, Cat starts to feel like she and her retreat are cursed, but she persists in delving into the recent murder and the death of her ex-husband. New readers of Lynn Cahoon's books will find this story a rich mystery within a mystery, with both likeable and not-so-likeable characters. Though part of a series, I feel this book can easily stand on its own, providing just enough background to catch a new reader up to speed, without giving away too much about the previous books. I found this story easy to read and hard to put down. In fact, I read it in one day, something I haven't done in a long time. I suspected several people of being the murderer throughout the book, but I didn't really guess the culprit until the end. The only thing I didn't really like about the story was Cat's lukewarm attitude toward her "boyfriend" Seth... maybe because she's still processing her feelings about her ex-husband. We didn't see a lot of Seth in this story, and I'm hoping we'll see more of him in the future. I was so excited to get an advance copy of this book and am happy to provide my honest review.

A Dead Fiancé and Secrets Revealed
Of Murder and Men is the third book in Lynn Cahoon’s Cat Latimer Mystery series. This is a well-written story, with well-developed characters, that moves along at a steady pace. The book is an easy read and Ms. Cahoon’s writing style flows smoothly and she provides good background information about the characters. The characters are relatable and there are enough twists, turns, and red herrings to hold a reader’s attention. This is a clean cozy mystery featuring no gratuitous sex, adult language, or graphic violence. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a well-crafted cozy mystery.

Catherine ‘Cat’ Latimer is an author and the owner of Warm Springs Writer’s Retreat in the small college town of Aspen Hills, Colorado. Cat and her best friend, cook, planner, and manager, Shauna Mary Clodagh, are preparing to host their third writer’s retreat in the home Cat inherited from her ex-husband, Michael, who recently passed away. Shauna has been a little distracted lately because she’s been spending more and more time with her fiancé, Kevin Shield. Cat’s high school sweetheart and current boyfriend, Seth Howard, is the handyman helping with renovations and transporting guests, and her Uncle Pete has been the local police chief for twenty years. Cat continues to try to come to terms with Michael’s death, sort through his papers and books, and unravel the mystery surrounding him so she can move on with her life and developing relationship with Seth. One of the retreat guests, Shirley Mann, is a retired detective from Alaska. Shirley has asked Pete to help her research a cold case for her book. After talking with Cat and Pete, Shirley decides Michael’s case is interesting and wants to help Cat. Shauna discovers Kevin is missing and asks Pete to help find him. Pete discovers Kevin’s body in his horse barn and poisoning is ruled as the cause of death. It isn’t long before they learn more about Kevin’s past and no shortage of suspects.

It's time for another writer's retreat at Cat Latimer's bed and breakfast. Too bad her business partner Shauna is so involved with her new fiance. Cat's worried about whether she's going to be there to help. She's also worried because Shauna's fiance is a bit of a jerk. But it's still a surprise when he ends up dead. Even more surprising when Shauna becomes the prime suspect. But Cat knows Shauna would never hurt a fly and, more logically, why would she kill the man before they were married? Even if she was seen with rat poison before the man was killed by that same method.

There is a lot going on in this book including some movement in the storyline of Annie's now-deceased ex-husband. The ending wasn't particularly fairly clued though there were some hints here and there, especially right before the denouement.

Three and a half stars

This book comes out November 28

The graduate student is Cole and helping with the replacing Cat free. Shirley, a retired Alaska cop is looking into Michael murder. Dante makes an appearance again. Shauna has an engagement ring from Kevin and is not always around. Kevin turns up missing and later is found dead. Shauna becomes a person of interest in his death.
