Michael Wilton did a great job in Save Our Shop. I really enjoyed reading this story as the characters were relatable.

Synopsis:
Losing his job at the local newspaper after depicting the sub-editor in a series of unflattering doodles, William Bridge is called on to help his uncle Albert keep his shop going and he immediately falls in love with Sally, the latest shop volunteer, despite formidable opposition from her autocratic step mother, Lady Courtney.
Following a break-in and lost orders, an SOS sent to Albert’s maverick brother Neil for back-up support changes everything. On the run from the police, Neil disguises himself as his Aunt Isobel, and encourages William to be nice to a visiting American security expert and his flighty daughter Veronica to promote business, causing a rift in his budding romance. The pressure soon mounts for William to investigate rumours of a shady deal to take over the shop and threaten the life of the village – a price he is willing to pay in a desperate fight to win back his love.

This is not my typical genre. It’s a cute book and I would most likely read more by this author. It was a quick, funny read.

The cover of this book is what caught my eye, so I was so excited when I was approved to read an advanced copy. Unfortunately, just. a few pages in and it was a struggle to read. I'm undecided if it was the writing, the lack of editing, or simply the Kindle format that made it so difficult to get through. The story jumps all over the place, the characters are just thrown out there, without nice introductions. In just the first chapter the main character is called by multiple versions of his name (Albert, Bert) so along with all the other characters it's so difficult to sort everyone out.

Thank you to Net Galley for the ARC for an honest review.

This was a cute book by an author I have never read before. It was fast paced and full of humor. It was a cute book that about fate and a little shop.

Something completely different for me. I'm not sure how I feel about the book. For quite a bit of the story I struggled with who was who and how they fit in. It all wrapped up nicely though.

William Bridge is recently out of school and a bit at odds. His job writing for the local newspaper fell apart after an ill-timed prank, so his mother suggested he help out his uncle Albert at the village shop. William agrees to consider it, and then falls in love with Sally, a teacher looking to pick up some extra spending money with a part-time job at the shop. And just like that, William is in.

Add in some competition for Sally's attention and an eager young American woman who has taken a liking to William, a mix of alcohol and medicine for a sick cow, a robbery, an uncle on the run from the police, and financial and sexual harassment struggles at the store. And that's just the beginning of the story.

Save Our Shop is a farce-like, quirky, whimsical book about a small shop in a small village in England. The characters are reminiscent of those found in Wodehouse, and the clever dialogue makes the story immensely readable. Author Michael N. Wilton has created a fun setting for his story and lots of warmth and charm.

That being said, this story has some issues too. I wanted to love it, because this is exactly the type of novel that is my favorite, but the pacing is way too fast. There is problem after problem for the store and the characters, and they get fixed almost instantaneously, only to find another problem coming on its tail. There is no reprieve. There is no time to catch your breath. This story would be stronger at a slower pace, with the characters facing far fewer problems. It has potential. It's just not quite there yet.

That being said, there are good things here too, so if this is the type of story that appeals to you, by all means, give Save Our Shop a try. But hold on. You're in for a very fast ride.

I found this book on NetGalley and because of good Goodreads ratings, I decided to give it a shot. Unfortunately, it was not something that I could enjoy.

The plot is relatively simple, Albert's shop is under financial strain, and despite personal issues, family and friends band together with quirky ideas to save the shop.

The comic occurrences were funny and would have suited the big screen, but in a book format it seemed a little bit rushed. The people made judgements and decisions at such a pace that it had me reeling. The characters decided who to fall for and immediately were talking of engagements and such. This behaviour was hard to digest. The writing by itself was good and as mentioned earlier I would have enjoyed it more as a movie.

This is a quirky little story about a small shop in a small town, with humorous characters and hilarious circumstances that will have you in stitches. Living in a town named Snuggleton-by-the-Sea, how can the people not have a sense of humor? This is a place you'd like to visit, populated by people you'd like to know. A very funny book. Don't read this in church or any other place where it would be inappropriate to laugh out loud.
