This is an amusing retelling of Phantom of the Opera by means of emojis. An ideal novelty present for the obsessive texters in your life.

Gaston Leroux's The Phantom of the Opera is my absolute favourite of the classics and I was more than a little worried about how I would feel about this 'messed about' version, told in texts and emojis. I need not have worried as it is fantastic. This book has taken what is a very dark and twisted story in its original form and made something hilariously funny, immensely entertaining and bang up to date. Genius.

Several of my friends are OBSESSED with Phantom of the Opera. I know the story, I've heard the musical, and I STILL found this a confusing mess to follow along with. I usually love retellings, but this one tried to tell the story exactly, with every characters, with very few words, and a mix of emoji pictogram and text message. Emoji's for each character were given a name in the beginning, but never referred to by name again, only by picture, and as I read this on Adobe Editions, it made it very hard to follow as I couldn't flip back and forth. I sort of loathe the emoji-everting craze, so I probably should have expected this. I didn't really get all the way through it, just skimmed to the end. You may like it if you like these sorts of emoji-story things, but I didn't. It is really nice visually, and its certainly creative, I'll give that.

If you have read "The Phantom of the Opera", not seen the Broadway musical, then this book will make sense. It will also make you laugh, snort and nod your head vigorously as you read it.

I LOVE the book, "The Phantom of the Opera". I also love the Broadway musical, but it was Disney-fied and doesn't follow the book's darker tone at all in comparison. This "re-telling" follows the book and it is HYSTERICAL. It is pretty accurate from what I remember of the book. It's been a while since I read the original. Added to the TBR, a re-read. Though this book was pretty complete, so I don't think I am missing all that much from the original. Aside from the scenes with my book BF, Raoul's older brother. What happens to him is so sad and tragic! Sniff!

Anywho, if you have read and enjoyed "The Phantom of the Opera" and have a sense of humor, then this book is definitely for you. Not sure how much a reader who isn't familiar with the original book would enjoy it. It might not make much sense, so I recommend the original, then this one.

I found it difficult to remember who was who and found myself flicking back and forwards. A great concept to teach younger audience the story in fun way.

Emoji Phantom of the Opera is the closest I have got to reading the classic story, it was entertaining and very quick to read.

I think this would be good for younger readers who are maybe going to see the play and want to quickly learn what it is about.

This book has intrigued me enough to want to watch the movie of the classic story.

I am not nearly as text/emoji literate as I thought I was, so it took me a little bit in some spots, but this was hysterical...and terrifying at the same time. I have read the original book, and seen the show several times, and felt like I was reading a very modernized version of Cliff Notes. (That's where the terrifying portion comes in.) I'd consider gifting it to a friend who's preteen is about to see the show for the first time as a way to "prep them" for it, but otherwise...not sure who I'd really gift it to. Definitely amused by it overall, though.

Whimsical, modern twist on the classic tale. As a Phantom fanatic, I had to see this. Fun!

A brilliant humorous retelling of the phantom of the opera. I couldn't stop laughing. The book is visually presented as a series of text messages, like a typical chat from your mobile. The dialogue between the characters is informal with all the typical puns and slang of modern texting. If you enjoy autocorrect jokes and all those kind of texting jokes available all over the internet, you just definitely check this book out.

For fully enjoyment of the comedic value of the book I would recommend to get to know the story of the phantom of the opera first (there is something hilarious about seeing those serious characters LOLing and adding poop emojis), but not a must because, in case you where wondering, this is indeed the story of the phantom of the opera and if you didn't know it before, well, this is a good chance to give it a try.

In trying to engage today's audience, this books uses texts, emojis and emails. But The story becomes trite and down right confusing. Why are people texting each other when they sit next to each other in the booth?
The classic is story is minimized and seems trivial. The characters are dim witted and cruel. In fact, of this is the basic story, how did Phantom of the Opera make it as a classic?
It's time to go back to the source instead of spending time with this book.

As a phantom of the opera lover, this was a cute and whimsical modern rendition. I had to keep the pictures of the cast close by to keep everyone straight but I was LOL at the dialogue. The anonymous emails were entertaining as well.

Future readers, prepare to brush up on your texting jargon and emojis. It makes the reading that much more entertaining. I’d definitely recommend for any POTO (see what I did there? Lol) fan.
