A fun little book more for the new traveler than an experienced one. However, I did really enjoy it. Good stories and tips. Road trip veterans might not get much out of it.

I was disappointed in this book. I expected a lot more in-depth treatment of the subject matter. Unless you are a complete novice traveler, there’s not much here to either inform or inspire. Perhaps a different promotional synopsis would attract a more relevant audience.
My thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an arc in exchange for my honest review.

With fun and creative beautifully placed pictures, stories, interviews, charts, and recipes, Road Trips advises readers how to have the most fruitful travel experiences on the road. Divided into four distinct and concise parts, Jacobs advises readers how to set out on an adventure—including checking your car and packing snacks—journal and record those experiences, and compile and showcase inspiring mementos for years to come. The forth section, compiled from her journal entries, describes Jacobs’ favorite road trips and what she has learned about life, death, and love. A few of her destinations include Ireland and the Joshua Tree, emphasizing the universality of this nonfiction, teenage and adult read. Jacobs’ ends with helpful books and other travel resources to help any type of explorer better navigate the world.

Jacobs might just be my writing soul sister, especially with her journaling. I have never read an author whose words, descriptions, and feelings fall so closely in sync with my own. As kindred traveling spirits, I loved the heartfelt, vibrantly soothing descriptions as well as the diversity of representation in style and resources. Road Trips fights any nonfiction tedium, and I never expected to see healthy recipes neatly dropped in with tales about losing her father and charts for what to pack per trip length. The organization works well—resembling a scrapbook—and I would even enjoy this title on my coffee table. If you are a seasoned traveler, Road Trips might be a little to generic and simple for your experiences, but the personal stories make it more than worth a perusal through its chapters. Jacobs has inspired a new type of travel writing, although this is not new for her. If you want to read about intuitive and mindful travel or better prepare for trips, this book is for you. Now lets hit the road.

Awesome and entertaining read! I do enjoy a good road trip myself! Length doesn't matter; one day, 3 weeks, it's always fun to discover new places and have an adventure. I enjoy reading about other peoples road trips, too. This one was fun as Jacobs not only talks about various road trips she's taken with friends, her husband and her kids- both separately and as a family, She also covers activities during and post trips to give people lot of fun ideas in pursuing their own road trips! Good read!

Sometimes I pick a book expecting one thing but it's completely different. That's how I would explain this selection. I have traveled to dozens of countries, backpacked for months at a time, global travel for three weeks and one suitcase.

This book felt more like a book for new travelers but I did enjoy the stories throughout.

What a cute book! No matter where you want to travel this books will guide you. It gives wonderful tips on everything you could possibly think of. Things like how to prepare your car, what snacks to pack, music, journaling, traveling with kids, restaurants to visit, hotels... I loved the pictures and Jen personal experience mixed along with advice on how to have a successful road trip. This is a wonderful book to prepare you for any type of trip. My favorite part was the healthy recipes and packing lists!

Road Trips is a good preparation tool for a road trip.

It includes plenty of good advice, packing lists and includes the occasional item you might not have thought about yourself.

An entire section of journaling and it's importance is also included as well as a few recipes from the areas visited. I thought that this was a nice touch. The author includes her journal entries of the places visited instead of providing a play-by-play account of places to stay or visit.

I expected more of either smaller destinations or the story of an epic trip. Most people reading a road trip book are experienced and looking for new and unique destinations. While there were some provided, there were not as many as I'd liked. Still a great book!

As someone who loves to travel, this was just what I needed to start planning the road trip me and my friends want to head out on after we graduate. The advice given wasn't patronising or 100% definite but instead helpful and clear, which is definitely something that makes travel books easier to read in the long run. I liked that it often gave several examples, so for instance what might be best to do if you are traveling with children opposed to if you are traveling alone. Also, so aesthetically pleasing! Far too often advice and tips are accompanied by flat, lifeless images but here the photography buzzes with energy. Photographs feel relevant and, coupled with the smooth prose, it made the overall experience so much more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is planning a road trip in the U.S.A also as, for me, this has been the most useful resource thus far.

This book does exactly what it's supposed to do: inspire travel.
Reading through journal entries, lists of suggestions, beautiful photos and even recipies, I quickly found my self aching to be outside again. To be exploring, creative journaling and experiencing the outdoors.
This book delivers ideas on how to take better photos, how to prepare your car and the surprising lesson on seeing through the bad and finding the good.

Road Trips by Jen CK Jacobs is a book of travel destinations and recommendations for what to pack, snacks to take, must do things at each destination, etc. I like the book, and would use some of the recipes, but some of the tips didn't apply to places my family would go. Still a lovely book, just not very useful for me personally.

Great for the novice road tripper, but if you have been on one or two trips before you can skip.

Beautiful book with a lot of practical and helpful tips and tricks for road tripping anywhere. Taking from her own extensive experience, the author has created a road trip manual that will inspire anyone to get in their car and take a drive! I can't wait to use it to help me plan my next trip.

This book was laid out in an interesting and slightly surprising format. I felt like it started with a lot of promise. Initially the author gives you a little personal background. Why she takes road trips, what she loves about traveling that way. Next we get advice on the 'How to's' and preparation suggestions. Recipes for her family's favourite snacks. I generally skipped over that. If this is something you've never attempted before, especially with kids, reading to this point will have been immensely helpful and necessary. Traveling this way, especially for long cross country trips is very hard on kids, and will become miserable quickly if you don't have plans in place.

Next there is advice on photo taking and journaling. I used to make that a priority but with the advent of social media I haven't bothered with it in a long time. While I liked the suggestions, and think it would be a fun idea - I'm not sold that we could achieve it. If you want to try this retro way of documenting your travel, the tips are informative. Artsy people also would like this. I am thinking if you don't get car sick I can imagine journaling would be a great way to pass the long travel hours. Also she mentions giving the kids the Polaroid style cameras for instant memories. They still aren't inexpensive and I can imagine the roll used up quickly on pointless pictures, if there wasn't hover parenting going on, and that spoils the fun. I love digital cameras and the freedom it gives kids to just 'snap away'. However, if you do choose to journal as you go, the instant picture would be very helpful.

The large chunk of the book is next laid out by the authors travels. You are reading her journal. This didn't interest me beyond the pictures - which are all fabulous, that is, the ones I could see. Buying this in print will be fine, however I'm viewing a eARC and many of the pictures were just blank white spots. It took away a large amount of visualization for the reader.

Overall, it covers the bases of road tripping. I had hoped for something of more a formal layout of destinations. Easy to see tips for the area, places to see, food to eat etc. That was too difficult to decipher with the journal style reporting. This is not your typical travel guide. It would make a good gift though to your adventurous friends & family - as its more 'story telling' than informational.
