This book is great for all ages. If you're like me you’ll feel like joining with your family and sitting down with your drawing pencils with this book. I thought the author was helpful in the way he set up the instructions and it was great that he gave so many animal ideas. You would think, what’s the big deal about stick drawing but this book takes it to a fun new level!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I found 'stick sketch school' helpful for creating animal drawings, however I found that the animals became complex as the book went on.

Stick Sketch School: An Animal Artventure by Billy Attinger is an "artventure" around the world that can help readers learn to draw stick animals in the jungle, the Arctic, the rainforest, the Outback, underwater, and more! You'll even learn how to draw extinct animals and fantasy animals in stick form. Each spread features a grid to show the reader how to draw the lines, how to add movement, expression, and more. Ideal for the visual learner and accompanied by tips and tricks from stick artist Billy Attinger, the book shows how to make your stick animals personal, recognizable, and unique!

Stick Sketch School: An Animal Artventure offers the instructions to draw a variety of cute animals from around the world, and from mythology or the past. I liked the little stories that go along with each set of instructions, they add an extra layer and fun and interest to the book. There are ten chapters, dividing the animals up by type; such as furry, scaly, helpful, birds, slimy, dangerous, extinct, or fantasy (among others). As someone that has always been a doodler, but lacking serious art skills or methods, this book was a fun and entertaining way to increase some of my abilities. I like the spaces that were included for practicing and testing the new skills. Also, while the book is accessible to all ages, there are little jokes sprinkled through it that are clearly aimed at adults- like the mention of the Wheel of Morality from Animaniacs. You get everything you might hope for based on the cover and title, and some extra fun for the trouble.

A zany introduction to doodling and drawing stick figure animals!
These certainly aren't the 'stick figures' I grew up with! From sheep, monkeys, & koalas, to buffalo and many more Attinger takes you on a sketch safari to draw many different stick beasties. These figures are a bridging between simplistic stick figures and more detailed cartoon drawings. There’re even mythical critters like unicorns and dragons to try your hand at. The creature introduction usually has humourous comments, and a practise page follows. Each animal is shown several different ways, and with different expressions, so you can get a feel for them. All total, there are 10 chapters, looking at different biomes, such as Arctic, Outback, rainforest, and undersea.

I took a spin at drawing some of the critters. I found it easy enough to follow. I got very good at sheep 😆 This book is perfect for kids and adults alike, who wish to explore and practise stick sketching.

***Many thanks to Netgalley and Quarto Publishing for providing an egalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Wish I had this book when I was substitute teaching. I always like to show the kids how to draw things. And this would have a been a nice step by step for them. I also think it would be good for any young adult or teen, that just wants to play around with drawing some. Maybe to inspire them.
Thanks Netgalley for letting me read.

This book includes a lot of pictures to draw, and is great fun. I felt it was more suited to children but had a fun trying out some doodles for myself. It made me smile and it is so extensive so you can definitely find something to appeal to you. Overall great book.

This is a great book for younger readers, but anyone could use it. It is easy to follow along and there is space to practice drawing. Overall a cute book that any little one would enjoy who is curious about drawing! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Netgalley.

Stick Animal Safari by Billy Attinger and Rachel Kochakis, published by Quarto - Race Point, is exactly what is on the cover. It's a pun filled tutorial safari full of completely do-able cartoon-y stick animals. There are 10 chapters full of tutorials grouped roughly into types; furry, scaly, helpful, birds, slimy critters, dangerous animals, extinct and fantasy things (plus others).
Each chapter includes a nonsense Linnaen nomenclature (Harius Furribelium, Purtius Burrdicus etc *groan*) and introductory sidebar followed by 6 tutorials with a practice page for each animal. The fake Latin made me roll my eyes (and also that the 'species' names were capitalized), but being the stone-cold bionerd I am, I'm probably the only person who is even remotely affected by 'comedy' Latin, and I should just lighten up.

I was won over even BEFORE I saw the pangolin tutorial. PANGOLINS, people!

The book is aimed at younger readers, but seriously fun and usable by anyone. I've been drawing pangolins all week in my meeting notes (I'm a professional bionerd - and yes, paying close attention in meetings!). There are many of the puns which are firmly aimed at adults. The book would be a really cool together-time project with family/kids.

144 pages, softbound, but roughly half the page content is the backgrounds for drawing practice.

Definitely a fun book.
Four stars

What a fun 'artventure'. A fun way to make all species of animals and many different poses explored. I am a doodler and love to get ideas and information on different techniques and this stick figure book is great fun and very informative.

This is a good starting block for any age. Especially those of us whose stick figures still manage to look deformed. I think the tone of the book is aimed at a older audience while the figures themselves can be drawn by anyone. The wide variety of animals and positions is great for aspiring artists and they are now locked in my head as something to doodle when one the phone.

Firstly thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for the opportunity to check out this book! The following is my honest review.

I have read and reviewed a few other doodling books recently and I'm getting a little addicted to them! They are fun and this one is no exception. It takes starts with something anybody can draw, a stick figure, and goes from there. I think it will be fun for all ages, but is geared toward more towards the younger set.

I've already doodled many of the animals in this book. Directions and tutorials are easy to follow. I recommend it if you like the style on the cover.

I really felt that STICK SKETCH SCHOOL: AN ANIMAL ARTVENTURE was great for pretty much all ages. It was easy to follow along, there was practice space next to each animal, so that someone learning could see the instructions and draw at the same time. Attinger covered animals from all around the world, too, so there was something for everyone looking to learn to draw.

This is a good stepping stone from stick figures to cartoons. It's aimed at a younger audience, but adults can benefit if they are like me and can only draw stick figures. (There's an Animaniacs joke in there about the wheel of mythicality that I'm sure is aimed at parents or teachers of my generation) There are a wide variety of animals to draw from the mundane, to cutie marked unicorns and a practice page after each instruction. Animals are shown in various positions or with different expressions so the artist can use this as inspiration for their own creatures.
It's a good book for an aspiring young artist, or anyone older that could use something simple to brush up on their technique.
