My daughter loved ABC books and enjoyed building up her vocab, but this is my review as a parent. The art is so-so, the color use is nice and busy. What the ABCs represented, though, was where I felt it could've improved. For instance, why not tuck in other French words for B? Add that the Weasel or Belette has a Blue Ball or Bleu Boule. There was a huge opportunity to expand upon the ABC concept and making this a better and more enjoyable resource. Adding additional words would've helped me string sentences with my child in French. Where is the blue ball? The weasel has the blue ball.

A bilingual alphabet book to teach the youngest french. I love how Lion is the same in both languages. Do you know what a Unau is? It’s a sloth, and my favorite illustration in the book. A great way to start you little one on a bilingual life.

Little Concepts: ABC French: Take a fun journey through the alphabet and learn some French! by Daniel Roode is an alphabet book introducing mostly animal nouns A-Z based on their French words with the English noun below.

The illustrations are brightly colored and in a cartoon-like style kids should enjoy. This is a fairly good intro to French vocabulary. I say only fairly good because not all of the animals have their article before them and in French you've got to know if it is le or la to say it correctly. The description says there is a pronunciation guide, but it was not included in the preview so I can't comment on it. In addition, the pages for letters I, J, K, M, Q, R, V,W,X, and Y were also not included. I hope that this gets fixed before it is published; otherwise, it is a great introduction book to French.

If you're looking for a foreign language picture book or a different kind of alphabet book, this is a visually attractive option. I would love to have this added to my classroom/ school library.

I received this ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster, Jr. via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I give this book 3.5/5 stars. If it was not missing pages or information it would receive 5/5 stars.

This a great little book for learning some basic French words, with a very bold illustrative style and clear to read text. What I didn't understand was why some of the words were things such as 'elephant' and 'turtle' yet others were prefixed with 'the' such as 'the flamingo' and 'the tree'. I think in learning other languages consistency is key, especially when trying to learn the rules of language.

A brightly coloured, attractive book for the young reader, this book is aimed at introducing another language early on. Through both familiar and unfamiliar animals the opportunity for little one to hear French spoken and what the word looks like gives the parent a chance to expand the mind into other possibilities. I wish I’d had this a couple of years ago for my daughter.

Very pretty little book to start kids off seeing words other than English alongside illustrations of (mostly) animals.

I do have some reservations. Not all letters are represented, which wouldn’t be a big deal, but the choices seem a bit strange to me.

B is for “belette”, a "weasel" on a bicycle. I'm not sure all kids would recognise a weasel but are more likely to think B is for "bicycle".

I’d also suggest avoiding "sloth", which children won’t know, and maybe adding "vache" for "cow", since there is no V word.

I’m not sure how I feel about using "girafe" and "lion" when they are the same or almost the same word as English. Maybe it helps establish some common ground.

Very pretty, and some of my earlier complaints h.ave been fixed, thank goodness!
Thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing for the very attractive preview copy and for making some necessary corrections already.
