Saving the Sheriff, the first book in The Hills of Texas series by Kadie Scott, sets the bar pretty darn high for the future books in the series. The story is rife with charm, warmth, unforgettable characters, one very sweet and precocious almost five-year little girl, and a chemistry between Cash and Holly that is incendiary.

The emotions that tug at your heartstrings, come from places of misunderstandings, long-buried resentments, and lost love. With so many layers of intensity woven throughout the story, the pages couldn't turn fast enough.

Secrets, lies, love and loss round up the topics in this novel. The book is about Holly who has always had a crush on Sheriff Cash Hill. Cash see's her as his dead wife's best friend. So, clearly, she is off-limits. Destiny and a second chance at love make this book so heartwarming and special. The characters drove me a little crazy at times. However, the two were clearly meant to be and watching them get there was special.

Really liked this one. On the one hand, you have hunky sheriff Cash, with his adorable little daughter, and then you have Holly, who has returned to work as a vet. mainly working with horses. Cash is still angry about how his wife died, since she planned on leaving him, and he is also angry at Holly, since he figured she knew more about the situation since she was friends with her. A good story-line, and good strong characters. Hard to put this one down. Highly recommend.

A slow simmer romance that is as much as a family drama, “Saving the Sheriff” tugs at your heartstrings from the first page to the last.

A little girl who just lost her mother, a young man whom the death of his young wife devastated him in more ways than one and a young woman whose unrequited love makes her feel guilty yet still drawn to the man she had loved since childhood.

“Saving the Sheriff” is also about life in a small town; where everyone knows what going on and it is very hard to keep secrets. Still, Cash Hill and Holly Jensen kept more than their fair share of secrets.

And those secrets if revealed will cause their friendship and budding romance to implode. It will also destroy the people around them, which both of them cannot allow. They have to make the right decision for themselves and for their family.

“Saving the Sheriff” is Rated T for Teens

Adorable, real feeling story. I felt the pain and happiness of all the characters.

This is my first book by Kadie Scott and I found it enjoyable. Holly and Cash are loosely connected by Georgia-Holly's best friend and Cash's late wife. Holly has been gone for years for schooling to become a veterinarian for larger animals. She made a promise to keep in touch with Georgia and Cash's young daughter. Both Cash and Holly have a lot of scars to deal with. Holly is trying to honor her promise, but Cash isn't too happy with her as unjustified as his feelings are. He also fights his attraction to her by being a grump, even though his family befriends the lonely Holly. They both have to come to terms with the past. Their HEA starts slowly as they become friends and begin to heal. I am happy that they finally found the real true love that they both deserve so that they can become a family with his sweet daughter. This is a sweet and touching small town romance and I hope to read more from Kadie Scott.

This is a story that is full of secrets and heartache. Sheriff Cash Hill is doing his best raising his daughter after his wife, her mother died. Now Holly Jensen has moved back into town. She made a promise to Georgia her best friend to look after her daughter if something happened to her. Now that she is back in town Cash is dealing with why she is back and why did she and Georgia not speak for over a year. Cash has more secrets and so does Holly, but you have to read this book to find out what they are. Some involve the decease wife and that just adds to the story. All the while Cash is trying to be the dad he can be. A very good book.

So, I’m on the fence about this. As a romance, which is what it’s billed as, it fell short of the mark. It felt more like a family drama.

Both Holly and Cash are hiding secrets about Cash’s marriage and his late wife and every time they bump into each other, those secrets bubble to the surface causing problems between them.

While they were attracted to each other—and Holly had a thing for Cash before he married her best friend—I didn’t feel any chemistry between them. Then there’s the fact that Holly agreed to be a witness so another man could request a paternity test on Cash’s daughter. She does this without letting Cash know what was going on, so it just felt shady to me. I really don’t know how Cash, who has a mountain of trust issues, could ever trust Holly.

Overall, this one was high on family drama—and horse training—and low on romance. While it was easy to read, I had trouble getting behind Holly and the romance. So, if you’re looking for family drama, this is the book for you.

Sheriff Cash Hill adored his little daughter so much, he’d move heaven and earth for her and protect her with all his life. When his wife Georgia died, his adorable daughter Sophia no longer smiled. Part of him died, too. Cash discovered his wife’s infidelity when she died and because of that, he never wanted to fall in love nor trust a woman ever again. Until Georgia’s bestfriend Holly Jensen came back to town. Knowing his wife’s dirty little secret, Cash assumed the worst about Holly and deduced that she might had been privy to his wife’s affair. Thus, he vowed never to trust Holly nor let her into their lives again.

Holly Jensen indeed knew something about her bestfriend, but it was something far more complicated than what Cash knew about. Something that involved someone else’s DNA and her own broken heart. She couldn’t even trust herself to love, not when she believed that all she could do was abandon everyone who came close to her heart.

I always find cowboys sexier than billionaires, I dunno why but I just couldn’t resist the charms of these men with their horses. Well, Sheriff Cash isn’t actually a cowboy in this story but his family has had more than their fair share in the rodeo and barrel circuits. Holly is more of a cowgirl than him, and that’s alright with me. Holly had her own family issues to deal with, aside from her growing yet unrequited feelings for the Sheriff. Their story isn’t some kind of romantic liaison of the hearts, but theirs grew from long-harbored secret crushes to enemies, from friends to more than partners between the sheets and hay.

If there’s one thing or someone I really hated in the book, that’s Georgia because of all the mess she left behind, and even started when she was still living. I really have no compassion with people who betray someone’s trust, especially if it’s done by a best friend. Georgia sure had some nerve dangling the one guy that her bestfriend Holly had loved when they were young. And now, Holly still had to carry the burden she’d left behind.

I love Holly so much. For me, she’s strong and lovable and kind… almost too kind that her gentleness and warm was easily abused by other people. I can’t say the same with Cash, who had been going back and forth with his feelings for Holly. I understand his hesitation to trust again, but man, once you’ve realized that you’ve been proven wrong, it’s time to step up the game, right? Would love to meet Cash so I could share that little nugget of advice to him. Anyway, as I was saying, I really liked Holly and loved that she’s gutsy and girly in her own hot-pink hair gypsy kind of way, something that other people fail to understand about her. Her chaste moments with Sophia were my favorite part of the book.

Saving the Sheriff by Kadie Scott will make you cry, laugh, swoon, sniff and giggle like a child. This book is so easy to read and the characters were a delightful bunch. A perfect read during this cold wintry nights.

This was my first book by Kadie Scott and I was not disappointed at all! I look forward to reading more of her books. Cash & Holly were great. They had to learn to leave the past in the past so that they could move forward. Kadie did a great job and touched my heart with her writing. I am looking forward to reading more of her books.

SAVING THE SHERIFF is a warm, sweet read but with a couple of interesting twists that come out of the author's vivid imagination but could be realistic happenings in today's world. In this world, there are choices to be made, and the wrong ones could lead to heartache, the right ones to happiness. Cash is understandably bitter (you will have to read to find out exactly why) and Holly is torn, not sure which way to turn, knowing she could only live with herself if she does the right thing. But -- will the right thing destroy her budding romance with the man she has always loved? The way this book is written makes it an easy read but still thought-provoking as you wonder what you might do if you found yourself in Holly or even Cash's situation.

If you love Abigail Owens paranormals, you have got to give her new contemporary side, aka Kadie Scott, a try. I highly recommend SAVING THE SHERIFF if you are looking for a well written, entertaining romance with some wickedly woven intrigue mixed in.

This is the first book I have read by Kadie Scott and I will definitely be reading her next book. She captures many emotions so be sure to have your tissue close. I laughed and cried. Cash and Holly have to learn a way to leave the past behind and capture the love right before them.

Saving the Sheriff (The Hills of Texas Book 1) by Kadie Scott
This is Sheriff Cash Hill and Holly Jensen’s story.

Cash and Holly have connections from the past. Holly has secretly had a crush on Cash but her best friend ends up pregnant by Cash and then married to him. Cash is now a widower raising his daughter.
Holly has moved back to town and ends up crossing paths with Cash.

An entertaining story with chemistry, miscommunications, and secrets.

This is a great story by an author I have never read before. A quick read that leaves you feeling happy and sad at the same time that it is over.

Set in small town Texas, Saving The Sheriff is a sweet contemporary romance that endeared itself to me early on.
Cash Hill is a widower raising his five year old daughter Sophia as best he can after his wife died in a car crash the night she was leaving him for a former lover. Holly Jensen was his wife Georgia’s best friend and is the last person Cash wants to see or have anything to do with, but of course Cash’s daughter Sophia has other ideas.
The slow build of a relationship between Cash and Holly and the way each heals the other from past hurts made this a warm and enjoyable read, but the sense of community delivered by the secondary characters enhanced it into that something more which made it that bit more special for me.

There are times in life when we are so focused and caught up in the past that we cannot see beyond to a future without unnecessary complications brought about by that same past. Cash will not let go of the past, and by doing that so stubbornly he’s forfeiting his future. Holly left town with good reason, and she’s returned to not only look after her deceased friend’s daughter but to bring the truth to people who need to hear it. The trouble with being the truth bearer is that it often paints you as the enemy when in fact the opposite is true.

I enjoyed Saving the Sheriff, it shows how often we simply fall into a pattern, holding tight to the past when we need to let go and move on. That’s not always easy to do, but it’s necessary for every person at some point in their lives. Holly and Cash were right for each other they simply (or maybe not so simple) needed to get past what was and head into what could be. Look for one little sweetheart of a daughter to steal lots of scenes.

There is some light world building, as I would expect from the first of a series but it was far from overwhelming. I’d recommend Saving the Sheriff to any Romance reader who enjoys complex issues, a good story and people you’ll like and relate to.

I really enjoyed this love story by Kadi Scott. This book for me was a fast read, which was a good thing because I found myself not wanting to put it down. It was very well written and the characters were so likable. Both Cash and Holly have been through some hard times. The romantic energy between them was so strong you could almost feel it. The book had some very funny parts, but there were a few times it became so sad it brought tears to my eyes. Holly's love for both Cash and his daughter Sophia was so strong, she was willing to walk away if that was what was best for them. It has a Happily Ever After ending, but the twist and turns it takes to get there makes this novel an exceptional good read.

Saving the Sheriff by Kadie Scott is a sweet sexy read that might could have also been titled Saving the Vet. It did seem to me that veterinarian, Holly Jensen was in more need of saving than Sheriff Cash Hill. These main characters have been hurt in the past by a likable but selfish friend in the past. You would want to hate her but then she reminds you of too many people that you actually know. What a reminder that our actions can touch others in profoundly negative ways.

There were several things that I enjoyed immensely in this story. Foremost were the supporting characters of Cash’s family, especially his daughter. What a wonderful ranching family. I would love to read his parents story as well as see his siblings receive their own HEA story. I liked Holly’s strong independent strength that allowed her to be successful in her chosen career as a large animal veterinarian. Also, I like how Holly’s family story panned out in the end.

I did find the pacing of the story to be slow but the ending to be too quick. I think that their relationship needed more time since Cash had been a man of deliberation throughout the book. This was my biggest objection with how quickly Cash’s feelings changed. However overall, it was an enjoyable read.
