Raymer's story of a disastrous move to Las Vegas and the almost immediate break-up with her boyfriend. However, that broken relationship eventually leads her to a meeting with Dink Heimowitz, a former (convicted) bookmaker. Dink take Beth under his wing and teaches her the ins-and-outs of sports betting. Raymer's rise through the world of sports betting takes her from the seediest of Vegas hotels to the Caribbean. A sort of coming of age story, Lay the Favorite is bound to be a hit for many readers.
