I have never read a book by Kate Reus. This book, Tempting Danger, was well-written and well organized. However, that being said, I definitely felt pieces of the story were missing. You know the saying "the devil is in the details"? While this book could be considered a stand alone, there were many instances when I definitely felt that I missed something. It is obvious from the beginning that this book was preceded by one that would explain the missing gaps.

I won't rehash the author's own description; you can read that for yourself. The main characters Alena and Andre were likeable, and obviously had a history which began in a previous book. There was plenty of drama surrounding these characters. Kate Reus really made you root for them to have their HEA. There were obstacles, mistrust and danger to overcome which kept my interest.

FYI: while this book has a few sex scenes, overall they were not explicit nor vulgar. I wouldn't want a young teenager to read it, but it would probably be okay for an older to late teen to read.

Personally, I think a parent should read this book first to determine the appropriateness for his or her child. The morality of the book regarding premarital sex, and the occasional f-bomb should be taken into consideration for impressionable minds. I am sixty-something and my attitudes may not be the same as younger generations.

Overall, this book was enjoyable and entertaining. However, I recommend that you read the preceding book first.

What’s it About? Alena Brennan’s relationship with Andre Makarov fell apart the moment he found out she was using him to get revenge on his father. It didn’t matter that Alena had every reason to want Andre’s father dead, or that she had started to care for Andre, he still ended it. Now his father is dead and Andre just found out that Alena is pregnant with his child and he wants her back, no matter what.

Overall reaction to the story? I completely missed the first book which sets up this second chance romance for Andre and Alena but I was able to follow along just fine. It’s Katie Reus so I know it’s going to be an interesting ride. I wasn’t disappointed in Andre and Alena’s story, not only is it a second chance romance, it also showed the fallout of Alena’s failed revenge plot.

I’m not into the Surprise/Oops/Secret Baby trope but I trust Katie Reus as an author not to disappoint. Plus it’s a sure thing that sparks will fly between her characters. Andre and Alena didn’t trust each other but at the same time they still wanted each other. I liked the way their relationship went from suspicious to passionate because it gave them a chance to get to know each other without revenge or hatred between them. Alena was able to be herself completely without worrying about maintaining her cover. Andre is a bit overbearing and possessive but it suited him and his background and I never found him to be unreasonable only when it came to Alena’s safety.

There was a little bit of a suspense plot in Tempting Danger that added a touch more spice to the novella but it didn’t take away from the rebuilding of Andre and Alena’s relationship and I didn’t feel like it was rushed to its conclusion either. All in all a well paced short romance that satisfied.

Tempting Danger by Katie Reus

A follow up of Retribution and fan requested, Alena and Andre get their happy ending in this novella. It’s a romance by itself, but best to read afterRetribution.

Packed with a protective to-be Daddy, and romantic pressure of love, this couple works to make their history a stable future for love. They are not perfect or even necessarily good people having exacted their revenge, but their love for each other is strong.

One of my favorite authors for an exciting, satisfying romantic suspense.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. I also purchased a hard copy.

I did not read the first book with Nika and Declan but now I really want to! There is enough explanation that it is not necessary to have read the first book, so you can easily understand this book. Some times has passed since the events in the first book, and Andre rejected Alena after finding out she used him to get to his father.

When Alena finds out she is pregnant, she knows that she needs to let Andre know but isn't looking forward to that conversation. Fortunately, Alena and Andre get a second chance to try and make their love work but there are some bumps in the road to that HEA.

I am glad that there was a second book and that Alena was able to work things out with Andre. He really had to have deep feelings for her as that was such a harsh betrayal. The epilogue was a great wrap up of both couples!

Three months after the events in Retribution, Alena and Andre parted ways under less then ideal circumstances. Trying to kill your boyfriend's mobster father kind of kills any chance of pursuing a relationship with him, even if what started off as a means to an end turned out to be far more than Alena ever thought.

But a surprise pregnancy changes things. Alena knows she can't keep Andre from his child and although she knows he may never forgive her and might even hate her, she is determined to keep him in the loop.

Andre knows why Alena did what she did, even though he hates the idea that everything they had shared was a lie, he can't hate her. She haunts him and finding out that she is carrying his child gives him the perfect excuse to bring her back into his life. After months apart, he knows Alena is his and this time around, Andre won't let her go.

What I liked:
Katie Reus did it again. Tempting Danger had amazing MCs, sizzling tension, hot chemistry and a touching love story. I had a great time reading this one!

Memorable Moments:
This was riddled with a lot of growly alpha behavior and yummy possessiveness. I really, really like Andre when he lost control and gave in to his base instincts when it came to Alena.

Revenge is not always sweet as in the case of Alena Brennan. Since her past is a complicated one with Andre Makarov there are several twists in this second romance story, Tempting Danger by Katie Reus. While these two characters are introduced in the first Retribution book, enough information is given that the story stands on its own.

This fast-paced plot with romance and danger merged so well together makes a perfect escape read. This novella has likeable characters with great chemistry that over rides all the trust issues as well as self-worth images that they are dealing with as individuals. I appreciated Andre and Alena work through their problems, while coming to terms to new events in their lives without thinking about running away from responsibility. It is an enjoyable, entertaining read.

I was excited to realize that Katie Reus was writing Alena and Andre’s story as I was quite curious about what would happen to them after the events that took place in Retribution and I definitely wasn’t disappointed to find that their story is full of some intense romance issues with just a touch of violence from any bad guys. The story keeps the focus on the vivid, electric chemistry between the couple and their turbulent emotions that are caused by their situation which keeps readers glued to the couple.

Katie Reus writes some electrifying stories whether from her paranormal series, romantic suspense or contemporary romance books and I always become lost in her vibrant, well written worlds and Tempting Danger is no different. The story is a little on the short side but is a wonderful romance for readers to enjoy as I couldn’t put the book down until I knew how everything played out for this couple.

Tempting Danger

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Alena has ruined any chance of a relationship with Andre. What started off as revenge turned into something real, at least for her, but she knows he could never care for her after everything. There is only one problem, she is pregnant and now will have him always in her life. But it’s not how she wants him.

Andre can’t get Alena out of his head. No matter what she did, he is drawn to her and still keeps tabs on her. When he has his path cross with hers again he isn’t expecting what she will tell him and now the ball is in his court.

While Alena knows that Andre wants to be involved with their child’s life she assumes that’s all she will get. Andre has different plans though and he is not going to let the one real thing in his life slip through his fingers again. But will they be able to make it work? Or is there too much between them and working against them?

I'm so glad Ms. Reus wrote Alena and Andre's story!

Andre is strong, pushy, overprotective and such a romantic! Alena didn't have a chance! The story was fast-paced, sexy, heartfelt and had a sprinkle of danger all wrapped into a quick, exciting read!

Tempting Danger (Andre & Alena's Story) is a novella that picks up where Retribution (Declan & Nika's Story) left off. If you've read Book 1 (I hope you have) then you know that Alena was hellbent on exacting revenge against Andre's father, one of the four men that killed her parents. Though she felt guilty about using Andre, he was simply a pawn to be used for her endgame.

Although (in Book 1) Alena is front and center, in terms of actual retribution, the story is about Declan and Rika with scenes thrown in about Andre and Alena. Unfortunately, there is not enough Andre and Alena to be seen in Retribution which makes it difficult to believe that they love one another when we meet them again in Tempting Danger.

Although Tempting Danger can be read as a stand alone it is clearly a second book and the characters/plot were introduced in the first book (which I haven't read). I think this definitely affected my enjoyment of this book and would strongly recommend reading the first book prior to this one.

Alena is a model who set out to get justice for her parents who were CIA operatives and murdered by four men. In order to get close to the final killer (she has previously killed the other three) she starts a relationship with his son, Andre. Andre is nothing like his father and although she feels guilty she needs to finish what she started. Unfortunately when she tries to kill his father she is thwarted and Andre realizes that she had lied to him and was just using him to get to his father. (All this happens in the first book which centers around her sister who is helping her and is psychic).

There is a large amount of backstory and obviously a lot of prior relationship/character development that happened in the first book. This book starts four months later with Alena pregnant with Andre's baby. She decides to tell him but is afraid of his reaction. Of course he figures it out before she gets a chance to tell him. Andre understands why Alena did what she did but he hates that she used him to do it. I thought Andre forgave/accepted Alena a bit too quickly and I think Alena should have had to work a bit harder for his forgiveness.

I think this book will be much more enjoyable/interesting to those who have read the first book and want to see the resolution between Alena and Andre.

A copy of this book was provided to me by NetGalley and the publisher with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

Tempting Danger (Retribution, #2) by Katie Reus is a great follow-up to book one. Tempting Danger is extended to Alena and Andre's story, three months later. Angst and intensity battle as the reader navigates the journey of revenge and redemption. This book can be read as a stand alone, but I think to get the full effect of the depth of the two main characters, you should also consider reading book 1 (Retribution). This author has a unique way of grabbing and holding the reader's interest throughout the story and molding each character flawlessly to fit each other and the story accurately. Thank you to netgalley for providing a copy of this book to review it was a great read that I recommend. I can also recommend the Red Stone Security Series by this author or the Moon Shifter Series if you enjoy a walk through the paranormal.

Katie Reus is my “go to” author when I want a good guy hero who only has eyes for his leading lady love and will fight anyone who gets in his way to keep her. At only 151 pages, Tempting Danger was no exception. Sure, it reads like a short, flirty, smexy Harlenquinish type novella, but all the better to read it my dears. I’m personally quite fond of that publisher. As a lover of romantic angst, I also get a kick out of alpha protective daddy drama, which is the underlying theme here.

Due to time constraints in getting a review posted by release date, I will be reading this series out of order. Yeah, I can see how it would be helpful to have read Alena’s sister’s longer version HEA first in Retribution, but Ms. Reus filled in enough blanks I wasn’t overly lost. It gave away a few spoilers from book 1, but I’d still recommend it to anyone looking to find love between two temporarily torn apart lovebirds who flock back together when a baby bond once more binds them together.

Here’s to hoping you’ll feel the same and enjoy this one as much as I did.

Title: Tempting Danger, Series: Retribution (Book 2), Author: Katie Reus, Pages: 151, short novella, second chance, adversaries to lovers, a few smexy scenes, alpha protective daddy to be, brief peril/violence, romance safe, celibate during separation.

Book 1 - Retribution, Pages: 350 (Nika & Declan)
Book 2 - Tempting Danger, Pages: 151 (Alena & Andre)

Although this can be read as a stand-alone novella it is clearly a follow on from a previous novel.

Alena Brennan is a model, her younger sister is psychic and is engaged to be married to a former CIA agent. Alena's parents were CIA operatives who were murdered and she swore vengeance on their killers. In order to get closer to the final killer she cultivated a relationship with his son Andre Makarov, a Las Vegas casino magnate, but found herself falling for him. When she tried to kill his father in front of him, and failed, Andre realised he had been fooled. As you can tell, there is a LOT of backstory!

Four months later, Andre's father has died and Alena is pregnant with Andre's baby. She needs to tell Andre, but what will his reaction be?

This was a pleasant enough novella, pretty PG for Katie Reus, but probably of more interest to people who read the preceding novel and wanted to know what happened to Alena and Andre.

This short story is the HEA for Alena Brennan and Andre Makarov we've all been waiting for. I was so hoping they would get their story. Katie brought it to us with her twisty imagination.

Alena has a big problem. She's a supermodel who is pregnant with Andre Makarov's baby no less. She used Andre to get to Andre's dad, Yasha, her parent's killer. She went and fell in love with Andre. Then ran when Yasha came to justice because she couldn't live with the guilt and pain of using Andre. Now she has to face him with the baby. Yasha has been keeping tabs on Alena because even hurt by her betrayal of him, he also fell in love with her. When Alena comes back to her sister, Nika in her time of need and Andre tracks her down. He finds out the wrong way she's pregnant and so the story builds.

I am not a big fan of accidental baby or of a certain plot device that's later used in this story but I am ever so glad they find their happily ever after. It's a believable story and Katie writes it well. I adore the tight, loving relationship between the two sisters. I liked the bro-mance between Andre and Declan. I believed the over emotional Alena with her pregnancy hormones. I found it hard to like Alena much in Retribution and this story helped get me over that. Truth be told I did not identify much with Alena. I still like Nika better between the two. Sorry Katie. I really can't wait for more of Declan's family and their paranormal talents, especially since they all are CIA.

I received this NetGalley ARC for a truthful review.

This was an enjoyable novella and I certainly did not feel at a disadvantage having not read Redemption. However I do think I would of enjoyed this story more if I had. But saying that there was plenty to like. Including the characters and the little bit of suspense. Plus the story itself really did grab my attention early on and then held it throughout. So I would happily recommend Tempting Danger to others.

If you’re after a bit of a quickie then Tempting Danger hits the spot. And, whilst an accompanying novella to Retribution—the first in the series of the same name—it can be read on its own, although I have plans in place to rectify this situation and very soon.

”He’d completely fallen for this woman. This beautiful little liar. And now she was carrying his baby.”

Whilst not the first book I’ve read by Katie Reus, it is the first novella and the lady can write one. Andre and Alena’s story was tight, and considering their history and what was involved, never once did I feel lost or confused. Far from it and I was invested in them from the get go.

“...that chemistry was never going to fade.”

With strong endearing characters, sizzling sexy-time and plenty of tender moments, Tempting Danger makes it a hat-trick of Katie Reus reads for me and she’s firmly cemented herself onto my autoread list.
