I would definitely read another book by this author.

New York City, 1914. Suzanne and Jada. Entwined as sisters. Talented and resourceful. Black and white. Wealthy employer and devoted maid. Together, they realize Suzanne’s dream to see her name in lights on Broadway as she becomes the dazzling Ziegfeld Follies’ rising new star. But Jada’s superb voice and dance skills give her an unexpected shot at her own success—and her own life. And when a jealous Suzanne reveals a shattering secret, their friendship becomes a bitter rivalry.

Bad things start happening to the girls in the Follies’. Suzanne and Jada put their issues on hold to try to figure out who is hurting the girls. Are their dreams worth the possibility of getting hurt or worse?

I really enjoyed the history entwined within the story. The story and characters were very well written, I really liked this book.

This was an interesting story about racism set in the mist of the Ziegfeld Follies' setting. The setting was very detailed, and it was meticulously researched. I also thought Jada and Suzanne were very compelling characters. Even though they grew up together, they had very different backgrounds and experiences. Both of them are hard workers who yearn to fulfill their dreams. The novel also had a pleasant surprise. it had a mystery that I was not expecting, and it made the novel very enjoyable. Overall, I recommend this novel for fans of Susan Meissner, Lisa Jewell, and Melanie Dobson!

It was a joy reading Ziegfeld Girls. Jada and Suzanne were likable characters, who went through a lot together. Sure they had their faults, but in the end they found a way to work them out. It was nice to see them grow and change as this story moved forward. The who done it aspect was a nice touch, and it was a surprise who was behind it all. If you are looking for a good mystery then this is a book you will want to read.

Zigfield Girls gives the reader a ticket to the development and rehearsal of a new Flo Zigfield show. The author's depiction of cast jealousies and tension felt spot on, but I longed for a look at the colorful costumes and sets the shows were famous for. The pizzaz that made Zigfield's shows the toast of the town was absent in this book.

The plot was well conceived and the characters were set up nicely, but I felt like the only relationships that "read true" were that of the two Black women. This friendship had heart and substance and their conversations felt like more than just set pieces. The other characters didn't feel complete to me.

I loved the concept of the book and the New York setting. And, I appreciated the reminder that even in the theater an integrated cast was a very daring departure from the norm in the early 20th Century. These were the strengths of the book, and I just wish that the author had a really demanding editor who urged her to keep writing, keep polishing, and make this book live up to its promise.

NetGalley provided me with a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A great behind the scenes look at the early days of Zeigfield Follies and the struggle of two friends as they try to make their way in the big city and still retain their lifelong friendship. A good read with some well drawn characters!

Thanks Kensington Books and netgalley for this ARC.

This is a novel of friendship, loyalty, and making it as a dancer in the still segregated states.

Perfect for fans of historical fiction. This tale of two women who start out as friends (as much as an employer and employee can be friends) but turn into rivals is set among the jazz clubs and dance halls of 1914 New York. There are family secrets, there is a threat of violence, but above all there are Suzanne and Jada. These are two fully formed characters who are both belieavable and sympathetic. Thanks to net galley for the ARC. This is a fast and very entertaining novel that gives insight into the hot world of privilege and creativity in this era. Try it for a well written good read.

Thanks Kensington Books and netgalley for this ARC.

Fun, flirty, and just the right combo of jazz age and modern. With a murder to solve, this novel has a serious side that makes it more than a dance rivalry.

Sarah Barthel transports you to the behind-the-scenes glamorous and not-so-glamorous world of the 1914 Ziegfeld Follies... and throws in some racial tension, family secrets, mystery, danger, and a touch of romance. This book was an interesting read, given the aspects of what it was like at the beginning of the 20th century. It. took the reader into the world of show business at that time, the follies were every girl's dream whether they could sing or dance, it was glamorous at least on stage. Behind the scenes, that was quite different. I would highly recommend this novel, especially for those who love history and entertainment. Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I received this ARC from Netgalley. This book was about Suzanne and Jada and their achieving Suzanne’s dream of becoming a Ziegfeld girl. Jada was Suzanne’s assistant. Suzanne achieved her dream of being a Ziegfeld girl and achieves her dream of acting with Bert Williams, an African American actor. The play was being threatened by another actress because she was afraid of being fired. I loved this book. I highly recommend it
