“The Devil at Your Door” by Eric Beetner is book three of the Lars and Shaine series, but it is not necessary to have read the earlier books to enjoy this one. This is the best book yet, and those who have not read the previous books can jump right in without any problem. Contextual references throughout the book fill in relevant background without wasting pages rehashing old events.

In this latest installment, the action with Lars and Shaine moves from the quiet life in “the islands” to nail biting exploits thousands of miles away. Mobsters, hit men, revenge, and unfinished business all mean the action never stops. Montana will never be the same.

“The Devil at Your Door” is well written and action-packed. Not a word is wasted. The dialogue is clever and realistic with a little humor thrown in for good measure. The characters are well developed and convincing.
I received a copy of “The Devil at Your Door” from Eric Beetner, Down and Out Books, and NetGalley. This excellent book adds perfectly to the others in the series. It is a wild ride with twists and turns at every corner. You will not catch your breath until the end.

The Devil At Your Door, by Eric Beetner

The final installment in the Lars and Shaine trilogy finds Lars leaving Shaine behind in Hawaii to perform one last hit. This time, it's about as personal as hits can get, with Lars determined to take out his former employer and the man behind the death of Shaine's father. That job is the reason Lars and Shaine ended up together, but Lars isn't sure how great that result was for Shaine. Maybe taking Nikki out will be a satisfying final act in Lars's professional life. Of course things go sideways and Beetner takes readers on another fun and violent ride through a gauntlet of bad actors. You think you might know how it all turns out, but you can never trust that Eric isn't going to pull a crazed rabbit out of his bag of tricks. The Devil At Your Door is a fitting end to a fun series, complete with snazzy new cover work.

Yowza! That's what crime fiction is all about! The Devil at Your Door is book three of the Lars and Shaine trilogy. Lucky for us all three books are being republished in February 2018. You can certainly start with this one and, once you finish, you'll probably find yourself going back and picking up the series from he beginning.

It is a solid action-packed crime thriller that just never lets up. After hiding out on the Big Island, Lars wakes up and decides he left some unfinished business back on the mainland in the form of the mobster who wrecked Shaine's life. Lars, an aging hitman, finds his target in the mountains of Montana and all hell breaks loose when he gets there. The locals never bargained for anything like this.

It's a take of salty old dogs and their young protégés. It's a tale of city slickers coming out to the Big Country. It's a tale of a wanna-be drug queen pin. It's a tale about never hesitating and never failing to take a shot. You can never really retire in a retired hitman's world and you can never leave things unfinished.

Well-crafted, indeed.
