This beautiful book has rekindled my love for cross stitch. The patterns are wonderful and I imagine enthusiasts of all abilities would find a project that would appeal to them. This books works well on a tablet as you can zoom in to whatever part of the pattern you're working on. I'm really looking forward to future stitching projects.

The patterns in fables and fairy tales to cross stitch are very pretty and easy to follow. The colors and symbols are both located in the pattern and in floss guide at the bottom of each page. I think these projects are best for for a baby's nursery. As a person that cross stitches, I would prefer less straight stitching/outlining.

This is a fabulous cross stitch book! Great patterns that are easy to read along with great pictures. The patterns are of fairy tales, fables and French nursery rhymes. They are fun to follow. Not very difficult, so most of them would be for the intermediate stitcher, although the beginner would find some that are easy to do. Another fabulous thing in this book are the ways to finish projects. There are some great examples too. I was very impressed with this book. And I highly recommend this to all cross stitchers. It will be a treasure in their library.

Fables & Fairy Tales to Cross Stitch Véronique Enginger is a wonderful collection of fairy tale themed projects with stitching charts and finishing suggestions. It's perfect for those with knowledge of cross stitching and those interested in stitching up their favorite classic fairy tales.

The book is easy to use, organized from which are the fables section and the fairy tales section of the book. Every project is in a visual format. A very straightforward and simple guidance, very nice visual patterns book, which you can easily follow and copy the design exactly. I love the designs and think the author did a great job reviving the fables and fairy tales of many others and my own childhood with these beautiful cross stitch patterns.

I have been a cross stitcher for many years. I taught myself to stitch when I was expecting my first child and have enjoyed the hobby ever since. Next to reading, it is my second favorite hobby. I’ve owned many books, leaflets, and kits. I have to say that this book, Fables & Fairy Tales to Cross Stitch” is more of the better cross stitch books I have seen in years.

Not only are there 44 different designs, the book also shows a wide variety of ways to finish your work. The instructions for the finishing techniques and the supplier of fabric, etc. are noted in the book as well.

The threads used are DMC. I really appreciate when DMC is used as it is one of the more cost effective flosses available. If you want to use other materials, generally, other companies will provide an equivalent chart to DMC.


The book is well made. It has a hardcover with an easy, stay-flat, sewn in binding. I can open to a page easily and the book stays open (rather than having to fight it to stay in that position. I always feel that a sewn-in binding is a mark of a very well made book.

The designs are done with both color coding and symbols. Most people prefer one or the other. For my use, I prefer the symbols.

I would rate this as a good book for anyone from new to cross stitch to advanced. There are enough directions to walk a new stitcher through and the subject and the overall designs are so beautiful they will tempt an advance stitcher as well.

The designs are based on Fables, Fairy Tales and French Nursery Rhymes. While I am familiar with the first two categories, I was both unfamiliar with as well as entranced by the French Nursey Rhymes designs. They made me very curious to learn more about the rhymes.

I have already pre-ordered Ms. Enginger’s Christmas book due out later this year and I be purchasing her Retro book (just out now with 500 designs) in the near future. When I looked for other books by this artist, I found many French and even Japanese releases. I hope that the artist and publisher will be providing more of these books and designs in the English language.

I wanted to review this wonderful book of Fables and Fairy tales cross-stitch designs once i had worked one of the design myself and i was not disappointed.
There are 46 designs and 22 projects included in the book. I chose The Princess and The Pea design to make and i found the chart very easy to follow with clear instructions and thread guide using DMC and i got a perfect finished result.
There are plenty of colour pictures to inspire you throughout the whole book and it is packed with hints and tips so great for a beginner to cross-stitch.
The book is divided into three themes: Fables, Fairy Tales and French Nursery Rhymes which you can mix and match to create your own designs.

I LOVE this book. This is my favorite cross stitch book ever. There are so many designs and they are all incredibly charming. There are patterns for just about every fairy tale or fable you can think of, from "The Tortoise and the Hare" to "Beauty and the Beast". I have marked at least 30 patterns I want to stitch. I have already pulled fabric for some, I'm so excited to start.

I also love how the book includes instructions on how to finish projects in the style displayed in the model photos. There are instruction on how to make a tote bag, a doll, pennant, bookmark, and more. It even includes patterns to cut out fabric. The finishing section is a great addition.

I do have two issues with this book, though. First of all, the charts are not in 10x10 blocks. They are just big grids. Not terrible, but a bit harder to follow. Also, my bigger issue is that there is no stitch count on the charts. As I said, I was pulling fabric for charts and noticed that I actually had to count the blocks on the grid to figure out the stitch count. Very tedious, especially when you are excited to start something. But, the patterns are so great that those issues are in no way a deal breaker.

I highly recommend this book if you like french-style patterns. Especially if you are a fairy tale fan.

It had been awhile since my last cross stitch project and I was looking for a project. I found MANY patterns to keep me busy for the near future. I'm so glad I requested this book; it meets and exceeds the description. You'll have a hard time choosing which project to work on first.

This was a beautiful book that I really enjoyed. Cross stitch is something I like but find a lot of the magazines don't really appeal to me. Fairy tales and design do ,however,and I feel that this exemplifies a modern take on fairy tales in a very stylish way. I very much plan on making as many of the designs as possible. Many thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me read this in return for an honest review.

This is one of the best pattern books I've come across. The designs are absolutely charming, blending the realistic and fantastical into delicate original images. They have a lot of life and personality to them. Some are even a bit 'modular', which would allow you to mix and match border designs, motifs, and images to fit whatever project you're working on.

There are three types of designs: fables, fairy tales, and French nursery rhymes. The fairy tales include all the classics like Beauty and the Beast, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Hansel and Gretel, Snow White etc etc, but also some more unusual ones like Peter and the Wolf and Hop o' My Thumb. I'm not familiar with any of the French nursery rhymes, but they're all adorable, and the designs have a few of the words to stitch alongside.

The design patterns themselves are clear and easy to read, with both coloured squares and symbols inside them.

There's a brief set of instructions on making the designs, but it's cross stitch, it doesn't really need more than that. The instructions for the suggested projects are clear, with small diagrams for each step.

The only drawback in this book is that a mere three pages are dedicated to the actual patterns for the fabric in these projects, which means they've drawn them all overlapping each other with different coloured lines. It's not hugely difficult to untangle them, but it would have been a little easier with only a handful of extra pages.

All in all, a lovely book!

Beautiful book with fun and fanciful cross stitch projects. My sister and I poured over the patterns and picked out our favorites to create first! The illustrations are adorable and I appreciated seeing photos of the finished projects. Oodles of patterns also provided. Will be purchasing this when it's released.

I’m always looking for small projects that can be stitched on Anne cloth, the squares are 45 X’s. The images are easy to recognize and the patterns are in color and simple to follow. Charts give color recommendations. Got for all skill levels.

A lovely little book, full of charming patterns that any fable and fairy tale fan will love for both young and old. Great patterns that are easy to follow. 22 projects to show off your stitchwork: luggage tags, mobiles, cookie tins, quilts, a cuddly toy with its own sleeping bag, and more.

Fables & Fairy Tales to Cross Stitch is a beautiful book. It has 46 patterns for cross stitching your favorite nursery rhymes, fables, and fairy tales. This book is just gorgeous and so well put together. I love fairy tales and cross stitch so this is perfect. The book has a few tips and techniques in the back too about fabric choices, floss, and stitches. You won't regret buying this book!

Exquisite and original designs. So many to choose from I didn't know where to start! Great use of colour, easy to follow & some lovely patterns for the projects also included. Love this book!

A lovely book of cross stitch projects for lovers of fairy tales and French fables..

It has been years since I have completed a cross-stitch pattern. But after being offered this book and another Véronique Enginger book for review, I am going to remedy that.

This book is just about perfect for me personally because it combines fairy tale patterns with a super adorable vintage’y look. While all of the patterns are lovely I especially love the Snow White, Red Riding, Pinocchio, and Alice in Wonderland patterns. The color choices in this are adorable though you could obviously use whatever colors you want.

The book is broken up into three pattern sections (Fables, Fairy Tales, and French Nursery Rhymes) then it also includes a techniques and tips section as well as project instructions.

If you are a beginner at cross-stitch, you can definitely complete these patterns. In fact I feel like these are a great place to start as they’re not too large and could be combined in many different ways.

The projects themselves (things like hanging storage, totes, and even a princess hat) are cute but are just a bonus in my eyes as the actual cross-stitch patterns can be used in your own projects as well.

It does show you how to make the stitches but they’re just the typical x stitch, 3/4 stitch, straight stitch, and my arch nemesis the french knot. Nothing too complicated. You won’t have to learn new stitches if you already know the basics, you’re set.

FABLES & FAIRY TALES TO CROSS STITCH is exactly as the title describes. It is a beautiful and whimsical book of cross stitch patterns, including patterns from the classic fables and fairy tales as well as several French nursery rhymes. While the instructions in the patterns are in English, be forewarned that the patterns themselves (the ones with words anyway) are actually in French (which the subtitle "French Charm for your Stitch Work" does make obvious, I hope). This only applies to in the patterns for the French Nursery rhymes section really.

In addition to the cross stitch patterns, which are easy to follow yet intricate enough to keep even an experienced cross stitcher interested, the book also contains patterns for several sewing projects to apply your cross stitch panel to once it's complete, including, but not limited to, a quilt, a project bag, and a messenger bag.

I'm still trying to figure out which pattern I'm doing first.
