ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I'm not a huge fan of X-Ops Exposed. I do enjoy Paige Tyler's other series.

This is the 8th book in author Paige Tyler's “X-OPS” series. I have been hooked from the first book! I love PNR and military romance and to bring the two together always makes me happy and hungry for more in the series. I mostly own paperback in this series but do have some on my kindle as well. I feel this series is a good one to read in order and highly recommend it.

This book has nonstop action with some sexy romance. I think out of all the books in the series this one has more violence then the others in the series. I say “bring it!”, it's a shifter hybrid series so this is what the readers want. I know I do!

Tanner is a hybrid, he fights every day for his soul. The more I read about him the harder I fell for him. I really liked his mate, she turned out to be the perfect mate for Tanner. I can't wait to see what the author throws our way next, the ending to this story was a humongous surprise and left me on the edge of the couch chanting “no, no, no, you can't end it like that!”.

I feel this is a great book for readers who enjoy action packed military/paranormal stories. Would I recommend this series to my family and friends? The answer is a big fat YES!

***I voluntarily reviewed this ARC for an honest review via NetGalley, this is my honest opinion and has not been influenced by the author, Publishers or NetGalley in anyway.*** Thank you!

I’m a big fan of Paige Tyler’s X-Ops series. It combines shifters and military/FBI/CIA type stuff. In this world, there are shifters, though most of the world doesn’t know anything about them. They don’t shift into full animals, but do have heightened speed and agility. They do grow claws and big teeth. Their eye can shift to give them better than night vision and have great hearing. There are several different types of shifters, cats, wolves, bears, coyotes and more. They are all born this way.

Now, many in the government don’t trust shifters. They partner them with a human, who is to kill them to keep the secret and to keep them under control. Another person high up in the X-Ops group has been working to partner people together to get romantic relationships going. She’s been pretty successful (as you can guess eight books in, and one book had two couples come together).

Now, the humans in this series, they tend to come from a military or law enforcement background of some sort (FBI, CIA, etc). The hero of the first book, Her Perfect Mate, was the leader of a group of guys in Special Forces. They’ve learned about shifters now and have become very important characters in this series.

There are “hybrids”. They are shifters who’ve been created by humans in a lab. They tend to be mentally unstable, though there are different “generations” of these as the scientist learn more and more with each group of new shifters. One of the goals of X-Ops is to shut these scientists down. It does seem for every group they shutdown, another pops up in its place.

This book features Tanner Howland. He is a feline hybrid. He is the first one X-Ops has found that has some control of himself. He does struggle with his shifter side, but has learned through meditation and other means to get himself back under control in stressful situations.

Dr. Zarina Sokolov is a genetic scientist. She was captured by the evil scientist and forced to work on the hybrids. X-Ops saved her in a earlier book and now she is working with them to try to help stabilize the X-Ops rescues.

So Tanner is hiding away, trying to protect others from his wilder side, which can be somewhat unstable, though he has been making progress. He went back near his home in Washington state and is living off the land in that area. There are also some preppers (as in doomsday preppers) that live in the area. They’ve been going missing, but they won’t contact the police, because preppers don’t trust outsiders. Tanner gets involved in the investigation.

Zarina goes out to try to find Tanner. She wants to help him. She even thinks she’s found a cure for Tanner’s hybridism (I don’t think that is a word). Anyway, there is an issue, he could lose all the memories he had of being a hybrid. He would forget her.

Another fun story of more suspense and less on the romance side (though that is a strong part of this story). As the same with all the books in this series, it is characters that really drag me in. I’m very invested in their stories. I would highly recommend that you start this series with book one. There are a lot of pieces that will be lost if you start in the middle of the series.

This romance has been a truly long time coming and we have been waiting to see what will happen with these two for a long, long time now. I personally wondered how Ms. Tyler was going to reconcile these two very different personalities and give them a truly lasting HEA which we expect from all her pairings. The series has evolved and changed greatly since the very beginning, with so many twists and turns I could never have seen coming, but each one was magic and I enjoyed reading each new installment. The last book in the series sent the reader into a tailspin with all the changes coming at us at once, but when Tanner left the DCO, leaving behind Zarina, we all knew that there was no way she was going to let that stand. So if you are a fan of the type of story where a woman refuses to let her man get away, no matter why he wants to leave, especially when she knows he’s simply running scared, you have found the right story. I loved this story and enjoyed seeing Zarina stand up to Tanner and make him pull his head out of his ass and see that they are meant to be together. I am dying to see where the series heads now, but after the magic of Zarina and Tanner’s story, there’s no way to go wrong with whatever happens next.
Zarina cannot believe that Tanner has run off, leaving her behind even though they were slowly beginning to have feelings for one another. She is determined to force him to return and sets out to succeed in her goal, traveling across the country and hunting him down in the forest, letting nothing stand in her way. When she stumbles upon him in the forest, thankfully just in time for him to rescue her, she didn’t realize his anger would fuel her own, but there you go. Tanner is beyond pissed that Zarina has come after him, and when he finds her alone stumbling in the dark forest, he knows he needs to send her on her way, but soon, they are pulled into a dangerous and deadly situation that forces them to see how well they work together as a team. I loved seeing how Zarina refused to let Tanner cow her, standing up to him left and right, but its obvious from the beginning that Tanner loves her too much to ever actually hurt her, even just her feelings. Tanner has so many issues to work through, not the least of which is fear of his own inner beast attacking the woman he has come to love. He fears that he will harm her if his beast ever defeats his control, but there is no way he can leave her alone either. The inner and outer conflicts are what make this story so unique and engaging and I loved all the danger, plot twists, and amazing mini-stories within the larger one that were wrapped up. If you are looking for a story that will thrill you and amaze you all at once, then you have found the right story for sure. I am dying to find out what comes next and which of the heroes or heroines find their mates. Paige Tyler brings magic to the page every time and I never doubt that I will fall in love with her work.

There's a lot going on in this story. There are preppers and abductions and an illegal fight club. There's action. There's suspense. And of course, there's romance.

An interesting, if not slightly confusing read! In a world where shifters exist, but are not common knowledge, mad-scientists are experimenting to create hybrid shifters. The confusion on my part is why? There's no explicable reason or mention of other medical benefits they're looking for. What?

Anyways, Tanner is a hybrid experiment that survived and escaped with the help of kidnapped scientist Zarina. He's now trying to deal with his second nature, his left-over PTSD from service (pre-experiment) and his feelings for Zarina. Attempting to hid from it all he isolates himself in the forests of Washington State and makes friends with preppers camps that are now being preyed upon by an unknown group. Zarina just wants to be with Tanner and is willing to chase him all over to convince him to let her in his life. Together the must sort out their feelings and deal with an aggressive group of pseudo-military preying on the preppers.

X-OPS EXPOSED is another thrilling addition to author Paige Tyler's "X-Ops" series. In each book, this one being number eight, they all deal with one couple and situations that involve danger and intrigue. This is Tanner and Zarina's story and is one I have hoped for since Tanner was introduced. He and she are perfect for each other, both selfless, protective and supportive and when he tried to push her away and run, she simply followed. Right in the middle of danger where others were being kidnapped ...

If you want sweet, steamy, a number of serious twists and turns, mad scientist who are dealing with genetic experimentation, energetic characters who have everyday life problems mixed in with very big paranormal difficulties and you have X-OPS EXPOSED.

And now, with the release of “X-Ops Exposed,” Paige Tyler’s X-Ops series begins its second story arc, or for TV fans like me, the second season.

On my review of “Her Dark Half” (Book 7), I essentially said that the X-Ops as we know it has changed and we will be seeing new players, even new villains. “X-Ops Exposed” (Book 8) made my prediction come true as new characters were introduced.

But, don’t worry. There is no loss in continuity with many of our heroes and heroines still around. Still, this book is about Tanner and Zarina, and these star-crossed lovers found themselves in the West Coast. While the X-Ops members in the East Coast fight their own battles, Tanner and Zarina found themselves accidentally entangled with crime lords who do not care who lives or dies as long as they make a profit.

Tanner and Zarina who had barely accepted their feelings for one another have to face unexpected enemies yet find help also from an unexpected source.

“X-Ops Exposed” is not just a romantic thriller; it is also a story about family, of forgiveness and acceptance. Many of the characters will tug at your heartstrings. But, as you cry for them, you also get nervous about the X-Ops crew in the East Coast as they face their biggest challenge yet.

“X-Ops Exposed” is Rated M for Mature due to violence and sexual content.

For a military type book, I am surprised to say that I enjoyed it. The way the characters worked together was great. I love how the author weaves her way through the different personalities.

This series by Ms Tyler is always a thrill ride. Another fantastic story as always. This is such a much long awaited story for Tanner and Zarina. I'm glad it's finally here.

This author writes amazing stories with great characters, both those you love and those you love to hate. Loaded with action, fast-moving plot, unexpected twist and turns, and, of course, hot alpha males who find their mates. The women are strong women who can take care of themselves and you can admire.

X-OPS EXPOSED is not a good standalone and neither are the previous books in the X-Ops series. The series story arc is expansive and almost overstuffed with plot, with a multitude of secondary characters who have their own dangling plots/loose ends that connect to the series story arc. Having read a few of these books I still can't keep straight who is a bad guy and which organization I am supposed to be rooting for.

Now I love a good, plot dense epic but X-OPS EXPOSED barrels through an action packed plot at such a pace that I had trouble keeping track of who was who and what was happening. One of the issues was splitting the narrative between the main couple and another character giving three different POVs. It was just too much to keep track of in an already complex main story line. Both plots were interesting and fun to read but both could have been their own books. I did appreciate how the two plots were woven together which Paige Tyler is always good at doing but it was a chore to get to that point!

Tanner and Zarina's relationship was full of me thinking "just kiss already!" There was so much tension and unpacking of emotions that I got concerned there would be no sex scene. Obviously the sex happens and it was good. I also enjoyed how this book dealt with Tanner's PTSD. I don't know if it is an accurate representation but it felt like it was handled well and I appreciated the way in which Tanner's complex emotions are explained. It comes across as very realistic to me.

X-OPS EXPOSED is best enjoyed if you have followed this series religiously. It has tension, conflict, passion and all of the things you expect in a paranormal romance. It's just so full of plot and honestly I have no idea which direction this series is going but it's going somewhere...

X-Ops Exposed

X-OPS - Book 8

By Paige Tyler

Sourcebooks Casablanca - April 2018

Paranormal Romance

X-Ops Exposed is the eighth full length novel in Paige Tyler's X-OPS series. I highly recommend reading these books in order, starting with the prequel to the series, Her Secret Agent.

Tanner Howland had once again run away. First, from his family. Then from his friends and people who understood him. Mostly, he had run from Dr. Zarina Sokolov, the woman he loved, but he couldn't be with. He was too dangerous. He wasn't like the other shifters who worked at the Department of Covert Operations. They were natural. Born with their abilities. He had been taken, changed against his will, and had little to no control over himself when that happened. He had no intention of once again being a danger to those he cared about.

Zarina might be very intelligent, but out in the woods, well, she was definitely out of her element. She hoped that Tanner would find her before something decided to make dinner of her, because there was little hope of her finding him. Luckily, he did find her. Unfortunately, he wasn't as happy to see her as she was to see him. But she finally had the answer, the solution to his problem. She had a remedy, it would reset him back to before he had been turned into a hybrid. Of course, there was one drawback, but that wasn't as risky as others who were attacking the other inhabitants in the woods. Loners who had decided to live off the grid in small communities, they didn't trust the government, and were slowly being picked off one after another.

X-Ops Exposed was the one romance I have been most eager for. Tanner and Zarina finally finding their happily-ever-after, but not without facing danger together. Of course, Zarina has to put her foot down in wanting to stay with Tanner, and Tanner wants to put Zarina on the first transport of any kind out of the area. And away from him. I loved watching them finally acknowledging their feelings for one another and working together to face these challenges.

Paige Tyler's Ops series continues. Paige writes suspense and romance that keeps reader sitting on the edge of their seats. A secondary story occurs although throughout the book, introducing us to Chase, a sheriff deputy. This story with Tate and Chase is edged with humor. The main story about Tanner and Zarina is a great read. Tanner is a tough, sexy ex-military hybrid who likes being on his own until Zarina comes searching for him and refuses to leave despite how rude Tanner is. As they help others and find themselves in trouble, they realize they love each other. I love this series and can't wait to read more, finding out what happens to the DCO.

The Delight

After the big blockbuster finish on the last book, I was curious to see what was in store for the new series arc of the X-Ops world. Long time characters, Tanner and Zarina get their romance and a new set of situations rise to keep up the intensity of the earlier books.
Review

X-Ops Exposed is book eight in the exciting paranormal romantic suspense series about covert ops teams of shifters and their human partners out to stop power mad government leaders and mad scientist types trying to twist peoples’ lives. The series has a strong story arc so doesn’t work as well out of order.

Tanner has left DC behind in an attempt to protect his friends and Zarina from his uncontrollable hybrid nature. Zarina won’t be left behind and tracks him down in the wilderness of Washington State. Soon, their squabbles about sending her away are interrupted by a bad situation of isolated people going missing. Meanwhile, Tate gets sent to Maine after his team gets broken up and he is investigating a supposed animal attack death. Things are definitely more than they seem. He and the cop assigned to him have run ins with mysterious shifter assassins and Ashley, a hybrid who got loose from a lab and has her own agenda.

I found both storylines equally engaging and loved all the action and suspense that came with this story. I had the mystery going on in Washington State figured out from the beginning. I was hoping that I was wrong, but no… how sad.

The romance was alright. I liked this pair together, but I think I enjoyed even better how Tanner learned to face his past issues and slowly gain control and accept his wilder nature. Tanner has survivor’s guilt, PTSD, and a very strong sense of duty and care for those around him. What a fantastic hero and… he knows how to deliver an apology. Ha! This really is important- at least for me. Truthfully, though, I’m glad he apologized, but he wasn’t exactly wrong to want to send Zarina packing under the circumstances. She goes wandering out into the wilderness barely prepared, gets lost, gets face to face with a bear, gets into a situation where weapons are needed for protection and she doesn’t know how to shoot or defend herself. She didn’t do stupid things, at least.

Things ended, not exactly on a cliffhanger, but a definite ominous note. I can’t wait to see what comes next. I can heartily recommend this action-packed, sizzling hot paranormal romantic suspense series.

My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Zarina Sokolov and Sgt Tanner Howland is a lion hybrid who has escaped to the forests in Washington State to deal with his life and try to take control of it again. Dr. Zarina Sokolov has been working diligently to find a cure to Tanner’s forced shifter status. When she’s sure she’s finally found one, she sets out to find him in the forest. After Tanner finds her, they both find out that something bad is happening to the people around the forest.
This was a great book. I loved both Zarina and Tanner in this book. It was great to see Tanner get his own happy ending in comparison to how he was in the book he was introduced in. I loved Zarina’s determination and her spunk. I can’t wait t read more from this author. I highly recommend.
