I just want to read books by Nancy Mehl all the time. She is such an amazing writer. Her plot lines are interesting, the suspense and action is perfectly timed and written, and the romance is subtle - just the way I like it in a suspense novel. Excuse me while I go find another one of her books to read :)

What a great suspense novel. It's not as full of suspense as the other ones in this series but it's still a great one. I think I expected more after the bombing but it seemed a bit anti-climatic after the bombing to have things not go as planned but fairly predictable.

I did enjoy Casey's character and how she reacts to the suave and sophisticated rich coworker. They have a history of course and she doesn't want to admit how she truly feels about him.

Valerie is a bit of a loose cannon. You'd expect a little more underhanded playing both sides but she hides everything from the marshalls really well until she's found out.

I enjoyed the inside man in the building and how he was going to save the day if needed. Great story that I had to read quickly so I could know what was going to happen next! I enjoyed how Valerie's informer ended up being alive after all and helps to save the day.

Another great read by one of my favorite authors. Definitely read this series. You'll love it.

I really enjoyed this 3rd book in the Defenders of Justice series, though it is part of a series it can be read as a stand-alone book without any confusion. The characters were likeable and there was plenty of action to keep you reading. There were several storylines taking place at once, so you do have to pay attention or it would be easy to get confused. Not my favorite of Nancy Mehl's books, but it was an enjoyable read.

Nancy Mehl sure knows how to write a good suspense book!
She's on my list of favorite authors for this genre.
See, I used to not like this sort of stuff until some of my authors started writing this way and I thought I'd give it a try. I was hooked! I finished this book in one afternoon!
And I thought about the characters long after the book was finished. Too bad we don't know if their lives stayed peaceful after all the action that took place in this book. I like to think it does. I do think about that every now and then and this book was no exception.
Just when you've thought you guessed who the culprit was it wasn't!! It wasn't who I was expecting and this is what made it exciting!
I loved all the characters even though I couldn't really relate to them. But then, sometimes you don't have to and you can still enjoy the book anyway.
I was especially rooting for Valerie whom I felt was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I was sitting on the edge holding my breath waiting to see what would happen to her.
Sometimes we can't help being in certain places when things go a wry. I can't imagine being in a situation like that and by the Grace of God I hope and pray I never am. It's hard knowing in the real world whom to trust and whom not to. The only person I trust is Jesus. I'd trust Him with my life!!
I would depend on Casey and E.J. anytime! They made such a great team of working together! I immediately felt the spark fly so to speak!
This book is not heavy on the romance and that's what I really liked about it. This is why I love Nancy Mehl!
She keeps her readers entertained and can keep your attention at the same time!

Blind Betrayal by Nancy Mehl has all of the suspense that suspense lovers could ask for. Every time I thought the characters had found a safe place to rest, bullets started flying or danger found them. Every. Time. Is someone on the inside betraying them to the terrorist on their trail?

US Deputy Marshall Casey Sloane, and her partner Doug have been tasked with transporting a witness from their office in St. Louis to Washington D. C. so that she can testify against a terrorist kingpin. Help arrives in the form of US Marshall E. J. Queen from the D.C. office, and a former friend of Casey's. As the US Marshall office in St. Louis is bombed immediately before they were to leave for the airport, they decide that alternate transportation would be necessary. They decide to take Casey's car instead of flying out, and begin a roadtrip with more landmines than they care to think about. As the incidents along the way pile up, will they be able to elude their attackers to get their witness safely to Washington?

As Casey and E.J. work together, they discover that their friendship in the past has sparks in the future. Will they survive to explore those sparks, or will the terrorist they're pursuing stop toying with them, and put them out of contention for good?

This story was a fun one to listen to! It definitely helped me get my heartrate up on my walks.

Suspense lovers will find this book immensely satisfying. While there is a romance portion to this story, it's not as strong as the suspense part. Nancy Mehl definitely rocks the suspense in Blind Betrayal.

This is romantic suspense just as I like it. My Rating 4.5 of 5.0.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Casey is assigned with her partner to transport a reporter who is expected to be a witness against a terrorist, drug cartel leader. Casey is surprised when a colleague from D.C., where she used to work, is brought in as part of the transport team. E.J. had a tendré for Casey but hid it while she dated his best friend. Neither E.J. nor his friend were happy when Casey changed offices, walking away unexpectedly.

Before the escort team can get on the road, the Marshal’s headquarters is bombed. It soon appears that someone will go to a lot of trouble to get to the witness. Casey and E.J. need to sort out the tensions between them but first they are going to need to keep the witness alive and get her to D.C.

Ms. Mehl does a good job building the suspense and tension. I enjoyed the double conflict and tension in the story: the natural dangers of protecting a witness while running from the enemy and the dangers and struggles while running from the human heart. There are miscommunications that contribute to both problems. There are some faith foundations that are shared as a part of the characters without being in anyway preachy.

This is romantic suspense just as I like it. I recommend it to readers who enjoy romantic suspense and mystery.

This was a thrilling suspense novel. It is the third in a series, but also works well as a stand alone.
Casey and EJ are US Marshals, and they are caught in the middle of the crossfire. Their office is bombed as they are attempting to deliver a key witness to a safe house, for safety until she has to testify.
There are many unexpected twists and turns. Excitement and suspense abounds.
This is a page turner from the beginning to the very end.

Nancy Mehl writes a compelling, heart wrenching story. While fast paced, there are many ups and downs. Our main character changed job locations on a split second notice, leaving her old co-workers in the lurch, including her partner, who had come to care for her more than a partner should. When her old partner shows up to assist with her current case, Casey is not sure how she feels about it. Casey, her current partner, her ex-partner and the witness must work together to get to DC alive.

After the bomb goes off at the Marshal's building, Casey and her team are cut off from all communication. Will they be able to determine who to trust before too many lives are lost?

Another riveting novel of suspense by one of my favorite authors out there. Well written and utterly engaging this book keeps you on the edge until the very end. I loved the characters and how fast pace and intriguing the whole book was. If you are a fan of Christian mysteries than this book cannot be missed!

Blind Betrayal by Nancy Mehl is a very suspense-filled book, third in her Defenders of Justice series. Nancy Mehl grabs her reader’s attention from the first page, not giving them a reprieve, until the final page. Blind Betrayal by Nancy Mehl is a very good intense book, filled with loads of suspense, danger, and surprising plot twists. This third installment in Nancy Mehl’s series was very good in my opinion. I really enjoyed Nancy Mehl’s characters, as she wove relatable traits into each character as well as building a deep and mysterious personal history for each character.

The plot in Nancy Mehl’s book follows a strong, independent, fierce woman, Casey Sloane, a US Marshal in St. Louis, as she and her partner undertake the assignment of getting a witness safely from St. Louis to Washington D. C. Needless to say, the task sounds much easier than it actually is and Casey, her partner, and other members of the U.S. Marshals have to deal with a bombing, attempted murder, wounded and dead colleagues, powerful cartels and terrorist groups, undercover agents, and so many more intriguing and layered plots that make the book so good. Casey and her partner take their assignment seriously, and as they encounter many obstacles, they must risk their lives to transport this reporter to Washington D.C. to give evidence at a hearing.

Overall, I enjoyed Nancy Mehl’s writing in this book, as she not only intrigued and entertained with this story, but also gave a reminder of how we ought to forgive. This was a page-turner and I would highly recommend it. I hope you have a chance to enjoy this exceptional story!

BLIND BETRAYAL is the third book in Ms. Mehl's Defender of Justice series, but it stands alone. Fans will probably want to read Fatal Frost and Dark Deception just to keep up with characters who may carry over to other books. I did remember some of the names.



I read the entire book in a day, it was kind of spellbinding with high suspense, even though you knew who the bad guy was and why but you didn't know what, when or how....



This writing is not up to Ms. Mehl's usual standards. It is more telling than showing and I couldn't relate to the characters at all. I didn't care for any of them. However, the suspense, as I said above, was high. The Marshalls were running blind, not sure where to go, where to turn, who to trust, and even those they thought they could trust betrayed them, and those who appeared to be one thing was quite another.



If you like high suspense, you will likely enjoy BLIND BETRAYAL.

Wow! This book has everything: Suspense, intrigue, romance, strong friendships, faith. And it’s all wrapped together in a plot that never, ever stops from the very first page to the last. Every character fits perfectly with the storyline. With this book, Nancy Mehl has continued her tradition of excellent novels. Always a pleasure to read one of her books. Another excellent mystery by Nancy Mehl! I enjoyed the characters and catching a glimpse of some of the characters from the previous stories.

Every time I read a book from this author I am always amazed at how she can weave a story that captures your full attention. The action is non stop and the characters are exceptional. I loved how the author made it hard to determine who was the good guys and who wasn't. Just when I thought a character was trust worthy they fool me. There is definitely something strange going on when the FBI makes me question their integrity. It becomes clear that not everyone is on the same page.

Casey is a fierce character who is determined to protect a witness that has been slated to testify. Her partner E.J. is well trained and has a keen sense of reading people. The action starts when a bomb explodes in the marshals office. The goal is to get the witness to a safe place, but obstacles get in the way. I was starting to mistrust the witness Valerie when she seems to help the bad guys find her. It's a race against the clock in this explosive and powerful cat and mouse game. Can Casey and E.J. keep Valerie alive to testify? Who is really behind all the danger that puts Casey and E.J. in danger? I love the complexity of the story and how the author puts the pieces together in an intense way that keeps you guessing till the end. The ending is masterfully written with surprises that lead to a closure that will make you cheer.

Blind Betrayal by Nancy Mehl is a book in the Defenders of Justice series. This book is about US Marshals that go on the run with a key witness when their headquarters blows up. The action in this book keeps coming and makes it a great read. Up until the very end, the book is full of action and you can tell it was well researched. Ms Mehl is a great writer and I recommend this book to anyone who likes romantic suspense. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher. These opinions are entirely my own.

In general, this book was just disappointing. I found it a bit hard to follow at times with the constant switching back and forth between point of view (it didn't help that the NetGalley copy I was reading had no breaks between paragraphs.). Basically just another book where the author is trying to force too many character POV's in one book.

Despite the fact there was lots of suspense, most of it was really predictable. Nothing came as a surprise to me and I had the plot figured out fairly early on. Also, the action just got to be too much. The story takes place over a very short time frame, so it's basically like 24 where you just have SO MUCH happening in a short time frame it gets to be a bit ridiculous at times.

I also didn't connect with any of the characters. I didn't really like Casey and her determination to be viewed as a strong independent female made her come across as rather cold and rude.

The first two books in the series were way better and this one was just disappointing.

As the final book in the Defenders of Justice series, Nancy Mehl has crafted a story that wraps up the series successfully and with as much, if not more, tension than all of the previous books. Each book is unique in its own way and can be read together or individually with equal enjoyment. I enjoyed the way this story was crafted showing how technology can be harmful and helpful at times. With the use of social media, Casey and her team found their way out of a tough spot that otherwise might not have given the team the help they needed. I liked Casey. She was tough but not over the top or even stubborn. Being a leading lady and in law enforcement, authors have to show these characters are able to keep up with their male counterparts and are not to be messed with but are still human and not exempt from harm or other problems. It would have been easy for Mehl to put the romance element at the forefront, but she kept the suspense tight throughout keeping me glued to the page until the very end. I enjoyed the secondary characters more than I thought I would at times, they helped carry the story along when it could have started to drag. Overall I enjoyed this book and recommend to fans of Mehl and those that enjoy romantic suspense.

This romantic suspense has plenty of twists and turns and action. This is the third book in the Defenders of Justice Series and reading them in order is recommended.

Blind Betrayal
It has been a long time since I've read in this genre. I mean seriously, it's been a long time. It's my mom's favorite genre so I read it all the time when I was a kid, but since I've been an adult? As I said, it's been a while. Anyway here's my review. As usual, I'll first give my librarian opinion then my reader opinion.
Librarian: I won't be purchasing this book for my library. This is not because it isn't a good book, but rather because I work at a non-religious school that has students from many faith backgrounds. Given that fact, it would be inappropriate for me to purchase Christian Fiction for my school. However, I will say that this book is less overtly Christian than many other books in this genre (characters pray a few times, but that's about it), so other librarians may choose differently. I may also recommend this book to friends of mine who are librarians at religious schools, as they may find it more useful than I do. I also would consider purchasing it if I returned to working at a public library.
Reader: As previously mentioned, this is a genre that I once read extensively. Though this reading was not particularly recent, the truth is, I know this genre and I know it well. Perhaps because I know it well, I was able to predict most of the twists before they happened, there's only so many ways that these kind of stories can go. Luckily I didn't manage to predict every twist, or else it would be a pretty boring read (also known as why I stopped reading these books in the first place).
On a scale of 1-10 of Christian romantic suspense (with 1 being those annoying ones that are more tract than story and 10 being Dee Henderson back when she was writing the O'Malleys) I would rate this about a 6.5. It's enjoyable, but nothing remarkable. An enjoyable return to a fairly predictable world. If you're a fan of this kind of book, pick it up. You'll probably like it.

“As Martin Avery waited to be murdered, he was surprised to find that, more than anything else, he felt offended.” What an amazing, “draw-you-in-immediately” first sentence! You know it’s going to be a great suspense book when the first sentence is so intriguing you can’t help but be blown away.

Valerie Bennett is a newspaper reporter who has been questioning the famous environmentalist Martin Avery. Suddenly, Bennett happens upon a dangerous secret. Now her life is in danger.

Casey Sloane and Doug Howard, St. Louis US Marshalls assigned to protect Valerie, quickly have a bigger job on their hands than they expect. When their home office is bombed, they are uncertain about the security of their plans.

EJ Queen from another office joins the team, bringing unpleasant memories from the past to the surface for both himself and Casey.

What a suspenseful ride! Mehl does a great job of making the terror so real that the reader can easily believe he/she is living (hopefully) through it along with the protagonists.

I loved the way that Mehl brings to question whether duty should come before family in a disaster. I liked her conclusion, although I suspect some might differ.

This is a great thrill ride that lovers of Christian romantic suspense will not want to miss. Although Nancy Mehl’s Blind Betrayal is Book Three in her Defenders of Justice series, it also works great as a stand-alone, so no disappointing cliffhangers that make you wait for another year.
