I don't think I have ever read a book by this author before and now having read some of this one I know why. It was written like a child wrote it. Jumping from one place to another and I couldn't get into it to save my life. I love shifters, but this one was terrible to me.

Animal Instinct, re-release title from November 2013, published by Entangled a Paranormal Romance about Sky Cross who with her ability to communicate with animals. With her last assignment which involves saving canines involved in a primal battle to the death. Her investigation leads her to Luc a man who has secrets of his own. When her twin was killed investigation the same assignment, it is now up to Sky to release his soul, so he can move on.
Animal Instinct was a total surprise!!! It was the character development and wondering what will happen next, that maintained my focus throughout. There are not too many romances that got this reviewer so emotional, but not to give any spoilers, I leave it up to you readers to find the scene for which had me drying my tears with my blanket.
The book was fast pace with a predictable plot line. A good mix of romance, and suspense. I will recommend this title to any readers who need a fix of the paranormal.

This is a re release I'm guessing by the reviews I've read on it so far, I am shifter addict. I mean its legit one of my fav but this one was not doing it for me. I loved the concept of the story and the characters, I just couldn't connect with the writing style.

Luc is part wolf, part human. He has never made the commitment to choose which side he was to embrace much to his father's dismay.

Sky works with Animal rescue. There have been a series of dog fights in the area and she is at the latest to try and help the animals they recover. Her brother, a detective, is there also and is angry at her for being in a dangerous situation. Hmm, seems he knows something she doesn't?

This is where she meets Luc, who is evasive with answers and not very nice to her as she is attempting to help a coyote that was injured during the fight. A coyote at a dogfight? Sky sees several other types of animals that night, raising even more question.

Luc does not stay out of her life though. She finds him watching her, following her. Then Sky's brother is killed when he goes to ask Luc's mother questions, he is killed saving her life. Now Luc feels he HAS to protect Sky.

Will Sky figure it all out? Will the truth about Luc scare her away? Will finding out who killed her brother also kill her?

I had mixed feelings about this book. It had a definite twist on the shifter life because when the shifter "became of age" the could commit and become Kindred but this required giving up their soul. It also made them immortal but they would have to borrow a soul basically using it until the soul was useless, as in too old? or about to die? It was a bit strange for me.

Sky has her own powers. She can communicate with animals while her brother had another but she never really understood what the purpose of her power was until after her brother's death. Between her new understanding of her power and Luc's world, Sky's life has really changed!

She cares about Luc as he does her but he thinks if he pushes her away it will keep her safe, Can they ever be together?

Luc's sister, Nuala...her story really broke my heart. I would of loved to see her with a HEA...

I received an ARC copy of this book.
This was a fresh approach to a shifter romance;almost a cross with a demon series and a mystery. I really enjoyed how the story focused on the emotional relationship between the hero and heroine, and although there some physical romance it wasn’t until the last quarter. I thought the supporting characters were entriging enough that if a second book was available for preorder I would. It was also great to see strong female characters especially the heroine. The only downside was I was able to guess the “bad guy” right from the start. Even though I received an ARC copy of this book I definitely would have bought it myself.

This book is about a love between a shapeshifter and human, can a love between them really work. They are so different and can they overcome the differences and all that they are going through.

It’s was a overall ok book, if you think you like a little different take on a shifter book, and love then this book is for you.

I really wanted to love this book because I loved the premise and the cover, but unfortunately I couldn't connect to the writing or the characters. I didn't like the world, but I can see the potential for other readers who aren't looking for a paranormal romance as specific as I am.

Luc knows how to shut a girl up, "I'm up for the challenge," then dipped his head and slipped his mouth over hers." And he's a hug flirt, "maybe it's you working your magic on me in that dress." He worked his gaze up from my bare legs to the vicinity of my collarbone." Did I mention the protective aspect he has, "you'll do something to her? No, you won't, Pop. That's why I'm here. To tell you she's under my protection." I liked the book, but I wasn't in love with it I thought it was going to be something entirely different than what it was, it was a good spin on the shifter world but totally not what I was thinking.

A big thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. I found the book to be enjoyable. I rated it a 3.5. I personally would have liked additional information on protectress/kindred. The story was different and intense. I think if you like paranormal romance you would find this interesting.

This book was a really unique paranormal read. It felt like we dove into the second or third installment in a series because of the rather developed characters and story. We hit the ground running, meeting Skye and Shade, a pair of twins with interesting telepathic abilities. Shade, a cop, has a skill more geared towards police work, while Skye is able to communicate with animals. After breaking up some illegal animal fighting, Skye bumps into Luc, a stranger who has an inexplicable control over some wild animals.

Luc is a conflicted half breed who is straddling the human and "kindred" world. In this book, the word kindred refers to a group of demon-like creatures who can shapeshift. This book was filled with a really unique mythology and a mystery that had me guessing until the very end. The romance was nicely paced, as opposed to your typical love at first sight stories. It was heavier on the romance and mystery and light on the smut (although there was some). This was a great stand alone book to introduce yourself to this author.

I was intrigued by the summary of Animal Instincts by Patricia Rosemoor, but I thought the world building was clumsily done and the book was flat from the start and never recovered/improved.
