First book I’ve read by this author. The storyline had me impatiently waiting for it to move along; often times it dragged sleepily along. Too many stories going on at once. Not just Taylor and Brian but also Leah and Aiden and more. Then the relationship aspect of the two main characters that would run hot and cold so often I felt I’d get whiplash. Terribly frustrating. Really was not vested as much in this book to be enjoyable.

"Surrender" by Joan Johnston
Wow !! Since I tend to emotionally live a well written story.. I was scared, thirsty, bone tired, and saw things I will remember for a long time, and, I laughed and cried, too. I was gifted with a copy of this story... which I thoroughly enjoyed. I think it would make an interesting book club read.. I expect this story to grab & keep your attention just as surely as it did mine. Happy Reading !

I really enjoyed this survival story romance! Taylor is piloting the plane that Brian and the other Smokejumpers are jumping out of to fight a fire on the ground when the plane's engines fail. Brian and Taylor are the only two left in the plane and they have to parachute out. Stranded with fire burning all around them they have to be resourceful to survive. Enjoyable romance with a strong survival theme.

Great plot premise but the story spent too much time repeating what was wrong with the relationship.

Taylor Grayhawk and Brian Flynn are two old flames forced together under perilous circumstances. Taylor, a corporate pilot, has been burned by men including Brian in the past, and has given up on the possibility of any kind of happily-ever-after. Brian, a firefighter, is a recent divorcee, so heart sore and gun-shy that he is unlikely to ever fall in love again. Then the pair are thrown together & sparks fly.
I love the author’s books & this was up there with the best of them. The characters, the plot are all so well written that you feel part of the story. Brian & Taylor have much to suffer before their HEA. I loved it & read well into the night to finish it

My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Well hello, Cowboy. Totally judged this book by the cover. (Wink)
I enjoyed this book immensely. It grabbed my interest from the very first page. First sentence even.
The couple in this book (Brian and Tag) were sweethearts in high school, but broke up because their families were sworn enemies. There's a long history between them, which is revealed in the book.
There are a few surprises and tragedies along the way, but I won't get into any of those or give anything away because they're so important to the story.
The only complaint I had was the secondary stories running through. They made the story too busy and they're distracting. They made me anxious to get back to the original pair. Although, they will definitely be good stories on their own.

Joan Johnston is one of my favorite romance authors. I love this series. I know anyone who has read the other books in this series they will enjoy “Surrender “ enormously. If you have not read any of the previous books, I suggest it would be best to read them in order. I can’t see this as a stand alone. There are too many characters and storylines to know who is who and why what is what. I can’t wait for the next chapter in the Grayhawk and Flynn feud and loves.

There are the Grayhawks and the Flynns, the fathers have been feuding for years. The Grayhawks have four girls and one boy, while the Flynns have four boys. Taylor Grayhawk is a pilot and during the summer she flies smoke jumpers to fires. Brian Flynn is a fireman and a smoke jumper. With all the feuding, even the teenage kids get involved and love to play pranks on each other.
I had a lot of trouble putting this book down. There was always something going on. A lot of action, danger and people not believing they are loved. The characters were fleshed out and very interesting. I loved this tale of Love, contrary people and the caring between the pairs. The author did a great job of combining all the elements necessary to give you a complete, well written and even paced book

Surrender, by Joan Johnston is an enjoyable second chance contemporary romance dealing with an underlying feud between two families in a small town.

Taylor Grayhawk is an experience pilot transporting smoke jumpers into serious forest fires, yet one flight caused both engines to fail without a proper landing area. The only other person on the plane is Brian Flynn, who is a smoke jumper, as well as her secret high school sweetheart, since their families are enemies. Brian and Taylor manage to escape a plane crash and avoid burning in the forest fire, yet they are still in tragic danger.

The first part of this story is an action-adventure romance story with Brian and Taylor struggling to survive and learning about second chances. And the second half of this book is an contemporary small town romance that highly features their family members.

It's not necessary to read this series in order, since each book is a stand-alone. It's the eleventh book in the Bitter Creek series, so some reader would prefer starting with the first book to properly meet all the characters, especially the extensive family members.

Surrender is recommended and geared towards those who enjoy reading action-adventure second chance romances.

The excitement of this story starts on the very first page and continues all the way through the book. These characters are strong and determined and you can't help but want to see the get through all the obstacles. A great bonus in this book is that you get two great romances in one fantastic story.

A harrowing incident reunites teenage loves Taylor Grayhawk and Brian Flynn. When they were younger family pressure and a ridiculous feud between the two families rips them apart. Now older, wiser, and after surviving everything they've been through can they get past all the nonsense and live their lives on their terms together?

This is a book I highly recommend.

Surrender by Joan Johnston was a interesting read. The survival part of the story about terrified me. The strength of the characters and the story line are what makes this novel interesting and draws the reader in.

Taylor and Brian were sweethearts in high school, until she broke it up suddenly. Brian was hurt but moved on. Taylor continued to push men away from her, whenever she began to be feel to out of control.

Taylor was flying the plan and Brian was the spotter for the smokejumpers, when the plans engines quit. It did not restart and there was no place for the plan to go. Together they jumped and things got even more difficult. Oh - and they still love each other, but neither knows about the other’s heart.

This is the first book I read in the series called Bitter Creek. This was book number 11 and I did not feel like I was missing information and enjoyed the characters. Surrender by Joan Johnston was a good book.

This is one of the best books that I have read in quite some time. While this is book 11 and book 3 in an ongoing series/setting, this can easily be read as a stand alone. I have not read Brats 1 and 2 (which will soon be rectified) but there was enough info and background that I wasn't confused about any of the interactions or the characters. One of the things that I liked best was that there are parallel, ongoing stories revolving about other members of each of their families. You actually get the entire picture and not just the story of Taylor and Brian. Their story was literally a battle of survival (life and death) and learning to live before they could be concerned with their own love and any possibility of an HEA. There were a couple times when I wanted to smack them for not talking to each other, but they each needed that time and space for the story to turn out the way it was supposed to. This book did not start out as expected and had very little predictability in it. Joan certainly did her research regarding wild fires, firemen, techniques used and even down to the equipment they carry. It's quite refreshing to see that type of accurate detail in a book. If an author is that meticulous regarding location and profession, they're not going to skimp on the strength of their characters. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read that kept me on the edge of my seat and the pages flipping quite quickly. Pick it up and give it a whirl. I doubt that you'd be disappointed.

I really enjoyed this book. It is my first by this author and I will definitely be reading more. I know this is part of series but I didn't really have a problem with never having read he others. I am going to now though. It was very well written with so many moving parts and really likable characters with such depth and they are all so interesting.
I love that Taylor "Tag" and Brian get a second chance at love even if it is riddled with some seriously major hurdles to get over.

I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

Taylor and Brian's story. A great series, although a bit more detail in the introduction would help. Taylor, a pilot, and Brian a smoke jumper, are in a failing plane, and have to jump to survive. When they make it to the ground, they have to seek shelter as the fire is all around them. When Brian is attacked by a grizzly, he is injured, and most of their time is spent struggling with the after affects of his attack. A little quick to have sex in the cave, but I guess if I didn't know if I would survive I probably would too. Did I mention they had a history? They dated in high school back in the day, and their families have been feuding for years. Not exactly a Romeo and Juliet, but you get the idea. Would highly recommend this book, as it is a good read. But would suggest reading others in the series first to get a broader view of the scenario between the families and with the Australians at the ranch.

Family feud, fire fighting, and another f word. Exciting adventure tale with quite a bit of sex (which I skipped over) and family drama. It does keep one turning the pages to see what possibly could happen next. Entertaining bit of escapism.

This is a wonderful book. I loved it. I was drawn in from the first page and enjoyed the wild ride which is Tag and Brian's relationship. I especially found the plane wreck and the fire fighting descriptions very realistic. It was like you were there with the characters. Those first couple of chapters while they were in the woods kept me on the edge of my seat. Highly recommend this book.

WOW! SURRENDER is book 11 in the Bittercreek series from author Joan Johnston, however it can be read as a stand alone title. Just be warned that once you find this series you'll be eager to read the previous titles, I know I am. SURRENDER is the story of former lovers Taylor Grayhawk and Brian Flynn. Taylor and Brian are facing a challenge, surviving a wildfire with no idea if help is coming. Reading this book will tear at your emotions, there is hope, love, romance, steam, and danger. I found myself unsure just how things would turn out. It's one of those stories that is so very realistic you can feel yourself becoming part of the story. The characters are well written and believable, the story itself is engaging and so very realistic. Fans of smoke-jumpers or fire fighters are in for a roller-coaster ride. Both Taylor and Brian have been burned by love in the past and find it hard to trust but their life and death situation makes it clear that sometimes they have to trust in someone else. But once the danger is over will they be able to hang on to those feelings or will old doubts and questions about the future lead to more separation?
I found this story to be hard to put down and deeply engaging. The story is fast paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat. You will find yourself going from signing to tearing up to laughing out loud to feeling so glad you read the story. I'm eager to read previous titles in the series and to read the next story! Write faster Ms. Johnston! Highly Recommended!!!!
