This is a book of weekly devotionals that definitely needs to be read with your spouse. The devotionals are very short with questions at the end to discuss with your spouse. I felt like each weeks devotional was excessively short and several could have been easily combined.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book.

“Problems divide. Purpose unites. Welcome God’s purpose, together!” It’s too easy to allow the problems and stresses from work and everything else we deal with to cause division in our marriages. Before we know it, we’re wondering what possibly could have happened that has drawn us so far from our once strong relationship with our spouse. In Married For a Purpose, Greg and Julie Gorman share 52 devotions packed with Scriptures, prayers, encouragement, and practical next step actions to help you learn to live with a purpose focus instead of a problem focus in your marriage. This is a devotional that is designed for you and your spouse to do together. Each week will have a new lesson and a new Scripture to learn and focus on. The idea is to learn how to create Godly habits that will strengthen you both and help you to live God’s purpose for your marriage. The weekly lessons are very interesting and thought provoking. They encourage communication and for you to pray and study the Bible together. By taking your focus off of the problems and putting it on your purpose, you’re going to be focused on the direction you actually want to go, instead of the way you want to avoid, your problems.

Married for a Purpose by Greg and Julie Gorman is a book of weekly devotions. I was pleased that the devotion is short and your time is focused on reading a scripture and discussing the devotion and scripture with your spouse. The authors realize that to do this you have to be intentional and disciplined and seem to ensure that you make the most out of your time reading and studying the devotional. Each weekly devotion includes a devotion, scripture, application and prayer. One of the challenges that really hit home for me: ‘what if we asked God each morning how we could make him known in our homes’. Sometimes we focus so much on the outside world that we forget to treat the people in our homes with the same courtesy and intention. I would definitely recommend this devotion to any couple. I plan to look up more of their resources.
