This is the first book I have read by Jennifer Shirk but it won’t be the last I really enjoyed Bargaining with the Boss. I fell in love with the charming seaside town of Cape Harmony and what can I say about Damon if you like a hero who is charming and funny despite his past then this is the book for you. This author has a way with words, she made me feel like I was visiting friends and that I was part of the community of Cape Harmony, her characters have depth, the story is believable and it has the perfect mix of romance and humour. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.

If you were to ask me to rate Bargaining with the Boss immediately after reading it, I would have given the book 3 stars. For me, that would have been an unfair rating. My low rating would have stemmed from the fact that I didn’t like the childishness of the heroine, Kinsley Roberts. However, part of that child-like behavior makes her pushy and determined. It’s that determination that drove the storyline.

After getting dumped by her fiance for being too “sensible”, Kinsley has returned to her hometown of Cape Harmony to manage her family’s hotel. The hotel means a lot to her and holds fun and cherished memories. Unfortunately, the hotel is in financial crisis and her brother is forced to sell it.

As a favor to a former college roommate and friend, Damon St. James agrees to have the St. James Corporation purchase the financially strapped hotel. The hotel is in desperate need of some TLC and a makeover; all of which requires cash that the hotel doesn’t have and Damon’s board may not approve. Even before meeting Damon, Kinsley is upset and believes the new owners plan on tearing down the hotel, thus making Damon public enemy number one. Over the course of a month, Damon and Kinsley work together and ultimately strike a deal that allows her the opportunity to make the hotel profitable. With the two already having an attraction to each other, their time together allows their personal relationship to grow. Things are looking good until Damon’s business rival steps into the picture. When all seems lost, Damon finds a surprising ally and finally opens up about his past.

I wanted to read Bargaining with the Boss because I loved the sound of the plot. With my initial misgivings aside, Jennifer Shirk has written a nice story with fun and playful characters. I didn’t expect to find myself laughing at some of the characters’ antics. I also didn’t expect to have my heart ache for the hero. I loved the ending, which had my heart doing little flips. If who I think is going to be the focus of the next book in the It Happened One Night series, I’m definitely looking forward to reading it.

A wonderful sweet read that will touch your heart and leave you smiling. The writing and characters are excellent with a nice easy pace to the story. Perfect for a relaxing afternoon read.

Damon has spent years trying to prove himself to his father. Buying this hotel property is his latest attempt. All he needs to do is flip this property into condos for a huge profit. Doing so would be much easier if the very tempting Kinsley wouldn't keep trying to get him to change his mind. When they agree on a one month deal it should be easy for him to bide his time but when feelings begin to develop Damon knows he is in way over his head.

This is a book I highly recommend to everyone.

kinsley has a thing about dating co-workers. given that her last relationship with one ended in a canceled wedding and losing her job, she thinks they are a terrible idea. so when the guy she hits on at her friend's wedding turns out to be her boss, she's beyond mortified. because she needs to be on her game bargaining for the livelihood of her family's hotel and not worried about what happened after she blacked out from all the tequila.

bargaining with the boss is a charming contemporary. damon is bemused by kinsley and the small new jersey beach town he finds himself in. it's a far cry from the flash and glamour of manhattan. and more than that, he's incredibly drawn to kinsley and the creative and inventive way she gets things done. at the same time, he's also weighed down by this intense feeling of inferiority and guilt that he believes makes him a bad bet in the long-term relationship department.

this is baggage he needs to handle before he can be the guy kinsley knows he can be. she believes in him before he believes in himself. and it's the way that their relationship evolves and changes throughout the story, and how they bring out the best in each other that makes it worth reading.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC from Netgalley.

Let me first say that there is nothing wrong with this book. It's an enjoyable read, writing is very good and the characters are engaging. Unfortunately for me, I like some "heat" in my books. This doesn't meet that criteria.

Many will thoroughly enjoy this book and that's wonderful. "Different strokes for different folks," and all that. Let it be known that I didn't take away stars just because this book didn't have enough "heat" for me.

I typically adore a “forbidden” romance—boss/employee, best friend’s little sister, etc. but I unfortunately could not get into Bargaining with the Boss.

I really liked this book. It flowed well and I could have kept reading if it hadn't ended. A great way to pass an evening.

What a fantastic story this is by Jennifer shirk. I’ve not read much by this author but I will be from now on as I absolutely loved and enjoyed this book from the beginning till the end. I will be looking forward to more books by this author and I will be looking for her backdated books too. It was such a pleasure to read this book and I was over the moon when I got the chance to read this book early and I would absolutely recommend both this author and this book.

Bargaining with the Boss is the first in a new series by Jennifer Shirk. I haven't read her books before and although this was a sweet quick read i do wish there was more heat between the hero/heroine. However I'd give the story 3.8 stars for Kinsley trying to restore the hotel to its former grandeur.

Kinsley wants to break away from the same life she's lead for the last few years and the fiance who dumped her. What better way to let loose at the wedding in her pink puffy bridesmaids dress and a handsome man. Plus Tequila shots and a walk of shame the next morning when she wakes up in his bed. Imagine her surprise when Damon turns out to be her new boss of the hotel that was once in her family. But there are some things her brother didn't tell her about their dad which led to why he had to sell the hotel to Damon and his father's companies. Yes, there's the issue with the land being worth more than the hotel but Kinsley wants to try to restore what once was by using local businesses and with a limited budget Damon gives her all while knowing that it all may not pass by his father who just wants to sell it.

Damon has always felt guilt for his younger brother who was killed when he was in a car driven by a drunk friend but he feels as if he'll never quite please his father enough with his business acumen. But when he meets Kinsley and the hotel that she loves so much especially after meeting some of the business owners on the island. He hears how she has plans of using their products and promoting both businesses. When he starts to fall in love his father makes him chose between buying more hotels or letting Kinsley, the staff and businesses know that the hotel will be torn down and condos built.

It's a good story but again I wish it had a little more fire between Damon and Kinsley.

Whenever I’m in the mood for a sweet romance I know that Jennifer Shirk will deliver. I’ve enjoyed several of her books and Bargaining with the Boss is no exception.

I was a little nervous about this one at first based on the synopsis. If you are familiar with my reviews at all, you know that I don’t like the graphic stuff in my romance books and I was a little afraid this one would have more content than Shirk’s previous books. Thankfully, not everything is what it seems. Romance fans who prefer sweet and swoony to hot and heavy will definitely appreciate this one.

I liked both Kinsley and Damon. I liked how their working relationship was highlighted, along with the romance. I thought they worked really well together and I liked to see them become friends first instead of jumping straight into a relationship. I also liked Kinsley’s brother, Wade, and wish we would’ve got a little more of him.

Overall, I enjoyed Bargaining with the Boss. I liked how sweet the romance was, the characters, and the humor. The only thing I didn’t really like was that I thought the pace was a little on the slower side. It took me a little while to get into the story because I didn’t feel like there was much happening. I’m looking forward to reading more from Shirk.

Overall Rating (out of 5): 3.5 Stars

Kinsley has decided it’s time to move on after her last relation ended, 8 months back, and what better place than at a wedding for some fun. Kinsley is still a little hesitant, till she meets Damon. A little flirting, dancing and some kissing lead to her waking up in his room with no recollection of the night before.
Damon is in town to oversea a hotel he has just bought, and is in for a surprise when he learns Kinsley is the Manager of the hotel, and has plans for the hotel that are not in line with what his board wants.
Bargaining with the Boss is a cute, sweet, hilarious read. I enjoyed the banter between Kinsley and Damon and loved the small town charm. And forward to reading more in the series.

Kinsley has come back home after a broken engagement and quitting her job. She has taken over her family's hotel, but her brother has sold it and she's not looking forward to working under someone new.

Damon and his family's company bought the hotel and are looking at all options for what to do with it and the property. He and Kinsley meet at a wedding and are attracted to each other before realizing who the other is.

The author does a great job of making both Kinsley and Damon interesting, funny, and thoughtful. They don't come across as one-dimensional or shallow characters, and their banter is fun to read.

A quick read, but the plot is not sacrificed and you do feel like you're right there on the beach at the hotel.

I enjoyed Kinsley’s determination to transform her family’s hotel and return it to being a successful business even though the hotel has been bought by Damon’s family business. And Damon turns out to be the sexy guy she spent the night with when she drank a little too much at her friend’s wedding. Of course. That is always the way it happens with one-night stands in romance novels.

They both have trouble committing because of past problems, but as always happens in romance novels, the fun is in reading how they get past their hang-ups. I enjoyed the location

Fantastic read. Kinsley returns home to her family's hotel to find her brother has sold it after the death of her father. She's come back home to recover; herself and her past, leaving behind a lousy ex of 8 years. She's crushed her brother has sold the hotel. She also finds herself a bridesmaid at a friends wedding where she meets Damon. After a few drinks they leave and she wakes up the next morning, to her overwhelming dismay in his bed. Her dress is askew, her phone is buzzing and this stranger is sound asleep. The call is from her brother reminding her they're meeting the new owner of her family's beachside hotel for brunch. She gets him to push it back an hour, hungover and she can't remember what exactly happened the night before. Getting to the restaurant for brunch she meets her brother and the man who will be her new boss. It's Damon, the man she spent the night with.
Damon's got his own issues. He's up against the "I don't measure up" in the eyes of his father. He's never had a relationship and doesn't want one, yet he's drawn to Kinsley. Kinsley is a breath of fresh air and she's a house on fire. I loved her and how great is it to have such a strong, resilient female lead!! I loved it. She could counter every negative that rolled out of Damon's yap-almost.
Things are going well until they hit a few bumps and a skid. Damon does Damon very well.
Kinsley is so open and just plain lovable. She's the perfect female lead to her counterpart.
Her friends in this small beachside town were great! Local color is always a plus! The imagery is so vivid I want to visit the place!
All in all this is a great story and a yes you should read this book! Jennifer always writes a great story.
This one tops my list.

This was an okay story. It was well written I just never felt I really connected with Kinsley and Damon. D and K meet at a wedding. K is trying to get over her ex and drinks a little too much and wakes up in D's bed but can't remember anything.

Later she find out her brother sold her families hotel to D and he gives her a chance to convince him not to sell it to condo builders. D meanwhile is sorta a screwup in his family and wants to impress his father. It was a fun story, it just never really got to the point where I loved it or cared about the characters.

Kinsley and Damon are such entertaining characters in Jennifer Shirk’s latest novel Bargaining With The Boss. It is a sweet, hilarious and emotional, turbulent read that did not disappoint. A beautiful story that was a great series starter.

I received a copy of Bargaining With the Boss by Jennifer Shirk from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was intrigued by the summary and really wanted to like this novel, but the storyline could have been pulled together better and grammar improved. The overdone descriptions, bland characters and predictable plot lessened the impact of the writing or my enjoyment of it.

I loved this book! I loved Kinsley from the opening with her in her ugly pink bridesmaid dress struggling with her drink order, to the very sexy Damon flirting with her. This is an engaging story that has Kinsley trying to save her family's hotel while also trying to find herself. I loved the banter between the two of them and especially loved the heart that Kinsley put into everything she did.

Fans of the genre will enjoy this book and want to put it at the top of their TBR list. The author is on my must read authors' list.

Damon is just so funny, “I thought I was hitting on you,” he whispered in her ear. “Apparently I need to do a better job of it.” I liked this book, Kinsley was just a freakin' rainbow the girl was all sunshine and roses and didn't really listen to Damon.
