Wow. What a start to a series and what a protagonist we have in Josie Quinn. She is definitely not one for playing fully by the rules and when we meet her she is slap bang in the middle of a suspension and a departmental investigation. Far from keeping her out of trouble it puts her slap bang in the middle of the wrong place at the right time. Witness to a fatal shooting and road traffic accident, Josie's interests are piqued as one of the passengers in the car whispers a girl's name to her before passing out. With the entire Police force desperately searching for a missing teenager, and isolated from her job and the resources she would normally rely on, Josie sets off on her own investigation as to what  relevance the named girl has to the victims of the accident, little expecting the depth of depravity or the nature of the secrets she is about to uncover.

What Lisa Regan has managed to do in this book is create a highly passionate, if slightly flawed heroine who it is easy to like and root for. Josie Quinn is quite the formidable Detective and seemingly nothing can hold her back - not even a suspension. I really liked her tenacity and her determination, her unwillingness to be swayed or intimidated despite it seeming as though everyone is against her. She has not had an easy ride through life and this is reflected in the story as her past is slowly revealed to the reader, but this just made me like her even more.

The story itself is quite a complex one although the full extent of it is not immediately clear. A young girl is missing but to who has taken her or what the links might be to the mysterious Ramona is something we have to wait to uncover. but boy is it worth it. While it takes time for the full case to build, the tension slowly build with it until, close to the books conclusion, we are treated to scenes which will make you cringe and have your heart thumping in your throat. It's one of those lean forward into your kindle kind of moments. You know the ones?

Lisa Regan has done a great job of creating setting, the sense of the small town, close knit community closing in is prevalent throughout. It is hard to know who to trust and you can feel Josie's growing anxiety as those she loves are placed under threat. The book is littered with elements that will shock you, surprise you, maybe even unnerve you a bit but it's not all doom and gloom. There are some really great characters in the midst who I look forward to hearing from again, Josie's partner Luke for one and Noah, one of Josie's fellow officers. Like wise there are characters who will make your skin crawl - just thinking of them makes me shudder.

As a start to a series this one really captured my imagination but I have to say, with how this ended, I'm truly intrigued to see where Lisa Regan takes this all next. Her ability to build the story to an intense conclusion is great and promises much for the series as a whole. She most certainly has a cracking protagonist in Josie Quinn who kicks things off in a very exciting fashion.

Thanks to bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me to read this advanced copy for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this book, from start to finish! Josie is an officer on suspension who is at a stop and go when a car crashes into the store, she recognises one of the passengers as the teacher of missing girl Isabelle Crawford. From this point we learn about Josie’s relationship with her soon to be ex husband Ray and her new fiancé Luke and the complexities that go with it. Soon Josie is caught up in the case, but being prevented from investigating due to her suspension! This book kept me on the edge of my seat, and had just the right number of twists to keep me guessing. Lovely charectors but Josie may be my new favourite!
I literally cannot wait for the next one!

Vanishing Girls is the first instalment in a new detective series by Lisa Regan and as far as firsts go, you can't ask for much more than this!

Josie Quinn has been suspended from her job as a detective in Denton, PA. But that won't stop her sticking her nose into the search for seventeen year old Isabelle Coleman, who disappeared from her home. The investigation is slow-going and unearths another girl nobody even knew was missing in the first place. Josie is determined to find Isabelle but there are dark forces at play and she may be getting a lot more than she bargained for.

As far as main characters go, Josie is a strong and kick-ass lady. She's flawed, damaged and there's an intriguing background story that I hope will be explored further in future but she's also stubborn, fierce, not afraid to pull any punches and has the uncanny ability to often find herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. There's also the perfect balance between her professional and personal life as she deals with the break-up of her marriage and tries to move on with her new partner.

Denton has this fantastic small town vibe, which I enjoy immensely. Everybody seems to know everybody and their business, or do they? Josie quickly finds herself questioning everyone and everything as her search for Isabelle reveals a disturbing and harrowing town secret. Some events may make for some uncomfortable reading although it's not too gruesomely detailed.

I'm not at all familiar with Lisa Regan's work but with Vanishing Girls, she delivers a gripping and compelling story that had me hooked from start to finish, putting my faith into the wrong people, not trusting the ones I maybe should have and always second-guessing everything. This is a fantastic start to a new series and I very much look forward to reading more about Josie.

Everyone in the small American town of Denton is searching for Isabelle Coleman, a missing seventeen year old. All they've found so far is her phone and another girl they did not know was missing. Mute and completely unresponsive, it's clear the girl has been damaged beyond repair. All Detective Josie Quinn can get from her is a name: Ramona. Currently suspended from the force for misconduct, Josie takes matters into her own hands as the name leads her to evidence linking the two girls. The race is on to find Isabelle alive.

This is a well written book but it started too slow for me. This does not make this a bad read though, things did not unfold as quickly as I would have liked. There is plenty of twists in this book. There is also violence in this book of which might upset some readers. This is the first book in a new series featuring Detective Josie Quinn. I can see this series grow from strength to strength.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Bookouture and the author Lisa Regan for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

.Isabelle Coleman is a popular teenager who vanishes one day seemingly from outside her home. Normally Detective Josie Quinn would be all over this case but she's suspended following a violent incident. Following a series of events Josie finds herself not only actively investigating this case but at the forefront of another missing girl's return. To say too much more would spoil the book. I thoroughly enjoyed this rollercoaster ride of a book and look forward to more from Lisa Regan.

4 stars but probably closer to a five. I’m not sure how the author will top this one but I will definitely read more Josie books. She is a powerful female character and that is something I absolutely love. The story was good, as was the pace.

This is a brilliant start to a new series and I love the character of Detective Josie Quinn.
The book starts with Josie struggling to keep herself occupied after she’s suspended for an incident she was blamed for.
She soon becomes aware that a young girl has gone missing and is desperate to help. The Chief won’t let her near the case so she starts to make her own enquiries.
Josie soon gets caught up in something which has dangerous consequences for those close to her.
The final few chapters had me on the edge of my seat and I was desperate to know the outcome.
This is a gripping crime thriller and I highly recommend it.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

Not that long ago I read Finding Claire Fletcher, and enjoy it quite a bit, so when I saw that Regan had a new series coming out, I of course I had to read it too. I am a sucker for the thrillers that include the police procedurals in it too. The Vanishing Girls is the first of three books in the Detective Josie Quinn Series. This one centers around a small town named Denton, where young girls seem to be going missing at an alarming rate. It seems that like they just disappear, no clue of what happened to them, that is until one day one of those girls just appears. She doesn’t talk, so there is no way to tell where she’s been, who might have taken her or even how she managed to escape. But there is one determined police officer who is set herself on a course to find the most recent missing girl and uncover what happened to the girl who turned up.

Josie Quinn is on the local police department’s force, she has been put on suspension of which we do learn about later on. But for now, she isn’t taking the suspension very well. That might be because her life is in disarray as it is. On top of being suspended, she’s going to through a divorce and her Grandmother whom she loves dearly is in the hospital. There is one bright spot for her, she is engaged to a great man. Now, Josie is one stubborn, hard headed woman, and not matter what anyone tells her, she is going to find out what is going on in their town. I found Josie to be one of those women I would certainly want to have on my side. She might not always think first before acting, but she does get results.

The cast of characters other than Josie was rather large. There are a lot players in the game, I’m not going to give away to much about them. Other than to say, that with so many people the suspect pool is filled with some questionable people. Ones that were supposed to have Josie’s back might not have had the best intentions. Or did they? Were they truly trying to help or prevent her from finding the truth? As little clues piling up, and following Jose while she trying to put them all together was intense. The danger she found herself kept on mounting and the suspense kept building right up to the very end. It was a reveal that I was really didn’t see coming. Everything that learned along the way came into question! This was serious twisted happening going on in such a small town.

For this being the first in the series, it was definitely a great start. I enjoyed the characters, even though there were some I truly wanted to hate, because they were horrid but they played their parts quite well. The pacing was fast and suspenseful and the mystery definitely kept me guessing. I am curious to see where Regan take Josie Quinn next in The Girl With No Name, that comes out in April. I think that fans of the thriller/mystery genre will enjoy this one. I know I did!

This book didn't do it for me. I found the writing a bit ho-hum and the story line wasn't that gripping. Was not my cup of tea.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for the early read!

**3.5 STARS**

Detective Josie Quinn is your archetypal kickass female protagonist, and she's one seriously messed up individual.

A teenage girl has gone missing, and though Josie is currently suspended from duty for use of excessive force, she decides to carry out her own enquiries into the missing girl and discovers that there's much more to this case than initially thought.

As seems to be the norm these days, our female lead has personal demons - she uses alcohol as a crutch to lay to rest her terrible childhood at the hands of her mother - then there's problems with her soon to be ex-husband. Against this background Josie does a remarkable job with her investigation, bringing to light some extremely nasty individuals, some of them holding positions of importance in the small community of Denton, and she also highlights the fact that the missing teen is just one of many!

The plot certainly demands attention, and once it has your attention it doesn't let go! Josie got herself into some serious scrapes, and I'm not entirely sure that she'd manage to hold onto her job in the real world, but she definitely had me rooting for her, especially when I discovered why she was on suspension from duty!

Enjoyed it on the whole, though I wasn't convinced (in a legal sense) by the ending!

VanishIng Girls is definitely one of the best mystery novels I've ever read. The characters, the suspense, everything was just perfect.

Usually, when you read a mystery novel, it usually connects with the brain, right? You try to figure out what'll happen next. You rack your brain about it.

But this book managed to stir both my head and my heart. It made me cry and smile proudly. It made me laugh and it made me scream 'yes!' (Which made my mom think I was crazy, as usual.)

I loved Detective Josie Quinn for her determination and her badass character. I salute that woman.

There's another character I loved but I can't reveal his name because that's part of a suspense, but he's the good guy playing the bad guy role.

All in all, VanishIng Girls was a shocking, goosebumps raising read and I'm excited to read more of Josie Quinn's cases!

This book was quite gripping, but also rather disturbing. The story centers around the disappearance of a girl, and the first book in the Josie Quinn series. The protagonist is memorable and well-developed and I would be interested in seeing her story continue in the next book.

I found this to be a 5* masterpiece!

This book kept me enthralled from first page to last. It's a heartbreaking tale of vanishing girls, but, not one that relies on gore or cheap thrills. Rather, this has tension on every page, characters that are well developed and a haunting storyline that stays with you long after the final chapter.

I am so looking forward to the next adventure and highly recommend this book to all who enjoy an edge of your seat, gripping, thriller.

Fantastic!

Many thanks to net galley, bookoutre and Lisa Regan for the opportunity to preview this book.

This book is centered around suspended cop Josie Quinn . Girls are disappearing and Josie Quinn is investigating on her own . She learns real fast that she can't trust anyone . I loved Josie's character , gutsy , brave and tough but with a soft spot . This book was dark and disturbing but was a good read . Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review .

Girls are disappearing from Denton, Pennsylvania and suspended cop Josie Quinn investigates on her own off the record. Very quickly she discovers that she cannot trust anyone. I liked the fact that the main character, Josie, was not your typical female action hero. She was tough as nails at times, but also showed a softer, vulnerable side. Some of the references in this book were quite disturbing, although not graphic, and were maybe, just a tad over the top. I would say that I liked this book, but it did not "WOW" me. Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Girls are disappearing and nobody in the police force seems to be doing their jobs right, including Josie’s estranged husband, and she can’t because she is suspended. Perfectly captures small town claustrophobia. What is going on and who can you trust? A page turner and the first I hope in a new series, I’d like to see Josie return #VanishingGirls #NetGalley

Thanks Netgalley for the advance copy of this amazing book! I chose this because I had high hopes it was my type of book after reading the description! I love books with strong, sassy women as the lead characters. Josie lived up to expectations! And is now one of my firm favourites along with Kim Stone, Rizolli, Sara Trent, etc I could go on! It centres on Detective Josie Quinn investigating the disappearance of a young girl in her small town, she also finds another who won’t talk! Has the right amount of everything in this book. Seriously one of the best I’ve read so far this year! Go read it!!

This is the first of Lisa Regan's books that I've had the pleasure to read. I look forward to reading more by Lisa Regan and to follow the story of Josie Quinn!

This was the beginning of a series featuring Detective Josie Quinn, who honestly, is a hot mess! She has been suspended for using excessive force against a young mother but she can't keep herself from following leads after a teenager is kidnapped in her home town. Following the leads takes her on a trail of twists and turns and loops that keep the reading wondering what the heck is going on in that town! This is a real mystery that I found myself barely solving along with Josie - sometimes being totally wrong. It's a bit of a ride, but worth the journey. Great opening book!

The story has a dark edge but it isn't explicitly graphic; there is violence, assault/rape and other crimes but not thrown out in a gruesome, overpowering way. It did spark some hatred and disgust from me while reading, though.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes a good mystery/suspense but doesn't shy away from the dark themes; anyone who likes a strong female character who isn't perfect, anyone who likes a great book!
