This is the first book in a new series featuring Detective Josie Quinn. Though I enjoyed the book I couldn't take to Josie. The book picks up pace quickly and makes you want to keep reading more, then more!

Thanks to Netgalley for my copy.

This Mystery/Thriller is one of the best books I've read. I've read all of Lisa Regan's mysteries and enjoyed them all.. It's an excellent mystery that slowly starts to unravel into evil and heartbreak. I look forward to more of the Josie Quinn novels and strongly recommend all of Ms Regans other Books to anyone who hasn't tried them.

This was a great first book in the Detective Josie Quinn Novels and I absolutely loved it. A girl has gone missing and this follows suspended officer Josie Quinn as she unravels just what’s happened to this girl.
One of the things I loved about this was that we found out pretty quickly exactly why Josie had been suspended and I’ve found before in crime/mystery novels, suspensions or previous issues with main characters are normally mentioned as a back story for the main character but the reasoning and stories behind these suspensions are never mentioned. This usually leaves me hanging as to why they were suspended and why it’s constantly brought when you have no bloody idea why they’ve been suspended or what happened in their past. You get told about why Josie was suspended and there was also a great explanation as to Josie dislike confined, dark spaces which was a massive win in my book and didn’t leave any loose ends regarding Josie’s characters past.
Lisa Regan’s writing in this book was brilliant; I was hooked throughout the book and the pacing was spot-on. I didn’t find myself struggling through any part of the book and the action kept coming. I really enjoyed the way that Regan also managed to weave Josie’s relationship into the story; she’s currently in the middle of divorcing her ex-husband and childhood sweetheart Ray whilst being engaged to her current partner, Luke and I really enjoyed the dynamic between these relationships. Again, we know something has happened between Ray and Josie for them to not be together however again we find out exactly why this is which I loved.
I really enjoyed Josie as a character to an extent. She was a strong female lead which is always nice to see, and she was written like a human. Now I know that sounds really stupid but sometimes, characters are written like they have no problems and are just perfect and can take everything in their stride. Josie struggles with her feelings for Ray and coping with Luke and I really enjoyed her relationship with her grandmother. However, there were sometimes where she just grated on my nerves in terms of the investigation – she acted like she was the only who could solve it and was very big headed. I mean, I can understand with the plot of the book why this may have been true, but it was very annoying and off putting and made her seem really arrogant.

Do you like a good mystery? Do you like a book with a strong female character? Well then this book is for you.. Why are girl's vanishing in Denton ? Is there something a lot more sinister then just a serial killer ? This book started with a bang! and kept me reading into the night. Absolutely loved Josie !!! I was captivated from the first chapter and could NOT put it down. I look forward to the next in the series. Can't wait to see what Josie is up to next!!!

Detective Josie Quinn, currently under suspension from her small-town police department, gets obsessed with finding a missing teenage girl and identifying another girl who was found severely traumatized. Josie has plenty of baggage of her own – an abusive mother, an almost-ex husband that is still a huge part of her life, and what looks like a too good to be true fiancé.

The story opens with the abduction of a small girl. There were a few chapters that were from a captured person, but it was difficult to know if they were the same girl or if there were others. That was a bit confusing, but it was explained at the end.

I really liked this book and loaded it on my phone so I could sneak in a chapter or two whenever possible. I will definitely recommend it to several friends.

I quite enjoyed this. It did fall prey to some of the stereotypes of the genre but in other ways, it really surprised me. Definitely not for the faint of heart.

I received an ARC from NetGalley. The below is my honest, unbiased opinion. Thank you, Lisa Regan, the publisher, and NetGalley, for allowing me to read an early copy.

She was close enough to see that the girl had written a word on the wall in bright, warm red blood. Not a word, actually. A name…

Everyone in the small American town of Denton is searching for Isabelle Coleman, a missing seventeen-year-old girl. All they’ve found so far is her phone and another girl they didn’t even know was missing.

Mute and completely unresponsive to the world around her, it’s clear this mysterious girl has been damaged beyond repair. All Detective Josie Quinn can get from her is a name: Ramona.

Currently suspended from the force for misconduct, Josie takes matters into her own hands as the name leads her to evidence linking the two girls. She knows the race is on to find Isabelle alive, and she fears there may be others…

The trail leads Josie to another victim, a girl who escaped but whose case was labelled a hoax by authorities. To catch this monster, Josie must confront her own nightmares and follow her instinct to the darkest of places. But can she make it out alive?

Vanishing Girls, the first in a new detective series, is a fantastic, edgy, fast-paced, and intensely thrilling read. I found myself racing through the pages to get to the end. Such a fantastic start to a new series that I highly recommend!

As I was reading this I was getting myself all in a funk about it. I wasn’t loving it and I was trying to work out why.

I think partly I was expecting a bit more of a psychological thriller from the look of the cover and the title and this really isn’t in that genre. It’s a straight up Detective thriller. And I reckon if that’s your go-to genre, you’ll probably really enjoy this.

I’ve read some really good crime thrillers in my time (Karin Slaughter books being some of my favourites) so this had a lot to live up to.

There are lots of positives to this book, it’s well written, with a strong female lead and enough jeopardy and drama to keep you turning the page. The main character, Josie Quinn has enough about her to make her an interesting protagonist and seeing as this is the first in a series, I imagine a lot of people will want to see what happens next for her.

However, yeah, I did only give this 3 stars I’m afraid. It’s just all a little bit too cliche for me. I was trying to describe it to a friend over lunch the other day, and we came to the conclusion that it’s like one of those films where you hear the trailer and it’s a bit like the premise to every cheesy cop thriller
(Put on deep American male movie voice) “One female cop, suspended from the force has gone rogue....girls are going missing and only SHE can save them...but when everyone around her is in doubt, who can she trust?...” etc etc.

It was just a bit too similar to other crime thrillers I’ve read before. Of course Josie had to have a traumatic childhood and be emotionally damaged in some way and have been let down by those (almost always men) around her. She’s been suspended from work for assaulting someone (which of course we find out later on was morally for the right reasons) and she always acts impetuously, despite the consequences, something I found hard to believe of the ‘first female cop’ on the force. I also found it a bit far fetched that so many of the characters in this book were corrupt and nefarious. It really took the plot to the edge of believability for me.

I guess, for me personally, there just wasn’t enough that was new in this book to make it stand out in a crowded genre. However that doesn’t make it a bad read - if you’re a lover of crime thrillers and get through them with speed, then add this one to your to-read list. I reckon fans of this genre will be bigger fans of this book than me and I look forward to seeing how the series progresses.

The Vanishing Girls is released on 17th Jan 2018 by Bookouture.

I received a free electronic copy of Vanishing Girls (Detective Josie Quinn #1) by Lisa Regan from Netgalley for my honest review. A great and gripping thriller. This story takes place in the small town of Denton, TX where a young 17 year old girl goes missing. Detective Josie Quinn, who is on paid suspension can't sit still and decides to do her own investigating into the girls disappearance. The more she investigates, the more she finds herself in trouble and realized that her sweet town has a lot of secrets and the people she grew up around aren't the people she thought they were.

Josie, whose childhood is secret to everyone but her husband comes back as a nightmare she has to relive. Josie has to face her childhood fears to fight for her own life and help the missing girl.

I have to say that I don't normally read series but I am very happy I took the time to read this book. I was very impressed with the characters and suspense. I look forward to the next book to come out.

Lisa Regan is fast becoming a favourite of mine. I have loved the last 3 books of hers that I have read.

This is the start of a new series about a very strong female detective. Josie Quinn is currently suspended but that does not stop her from getting involved when girls are going missing in her close knit town. This is a very fast paced read that leaves you wanting more from Josie.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for a copy of this book to read and review.

Outstanding debut! This was a book I wanted to put down as I didn’t want it to finish. I was gripped from page and followed the protagonist Josie Quinn through every twist and turn of the story. Josie is a suspended police detective in a small town where nothing happens until a teenager goes missing. Josie starts an investigation herself to try and get her suspension lifted. Where is Isabelle Coleman and is her disappearance linked to the the reappearance of another girl.
This is a stunning debut that I can’t recommend enough and I will be waiting for the next instalment.

Vanishing Girls is the latest story by Lisa Regan and the start of a new series. Fair warning with this one, put some time aside to read as there will come a point where you will not want to put it down! Some edge of your seat moments make Vanishing Girls an excellent read. I was given and early copy to review.

Detective Josie Quinn may be on suspension but when a pretty young woman named Isabelle Coleman goes missing; she refuses to sit at home and do nothing. Against her Chief's orders, Josie continues her own investigation and helps find another girl, a girl who appears to be linked to Isabelle's disappearance. When Josie finds evidence linking a cold case that was labeled a hoax by police, she quickly realizes that someone has been tampering with evidence to cover up crimes related to vanishing girls. Unsure who to trust, Josie continues her search for Isabelle and those involved before it's too late.

Vanishing Girls is the thrilling first novel in the Detective Josie Quinn series. The novel jumps between one abducted girls POV and following Josie as she investigates the disappearances of several young women. In a small town where everyone has secrets she realizes she can't trust anyone which really keeps you guessing at who all is involved. I really enjoyed this novel and definitely look forward to reading more books in the series.

I'm not one of those people who takes much notice of a book cover, I'm more of a “read the book description” and decide kind of reader, but when I seen the cover for the Vanishing Girls I loved it, and the cover just shouted at me “read me now”. So that's the reason I choose to read this book and I'm so glad I did. I always get excited when I find a new crime series to read, despite being a huge fan of this genre I'm always looking for a series that's different from the norm, but at the same time highly entertaining . I'm thrilled to write that Vanishing Girls is one of the best debut books in a crime series I have read in a long time.

Vanishing Girls opens with a chilling prologue and from then on in Lisa Regan doesn’t let up on the pace or the drama. Josie Quinn is a detective with the Denton, police department, currently on suspension. Josie like any good fictional Detective is not the kind of person to sit around waiting for her suspension to end, and when a local girl goes missing she can’t help but become involved in the investigation. Josie Quinn is a no-nonsense cop with a strong sense of justice, she’s capable and fearless, although there is a hint of vulnerability about her, as the author reveals snippets of a troubled childhood.

There is plenty of drama and twists in Vanishing Girls to keep the most hardened crime thriller reader engrossed. At times the plot felt very intense due to the dark and emotive subject covered, but on that note the plot never felt to grim and the author concentrates on the investigation rather than going into great detail about what the Vanishing Girls had to endure. Full of suspense with a gritty plot and a strong female lead whom you can't help but warm to I think the author has created a crime series that has all the hallmarks of a long running series. Would I recommend this book? It's a most “definitely” from me.

I read two of Lisa Regan's other books in a week and new i would enjoy this one. I can't begin to say how much i loved Josie the main character. Smart, determined and just the kind of strong female lead i love to see in books. The character is flawed but that only makes her more compelling. She fights to discover the truth and to help people. This was a wonderful book, so well written and i can't wait to read more by this author.

A suspenseful, tense, edge of the seat roller-coaster of a thriller. Loved it from start to finish. Was racing through the pages at the same time as not wanting it to end. A book which absorbed and transported me so that for a while I was one with the characters. I am so glad I discovered this author and cannot wait for her next.

The Vanishing Girls Lisa Regan

Straight from the start I’m going to say I loved this book. The Plot, the main protagonist, the setting, everything.

The story is based in the small fictional town of Denton Pennsylvania. When a young woman goes missing it attracts the attention of all of the local police department, but the one woman that really wants to get involved I the search is on suspension for hitting another woman.

Detective Josie Quinn is a troubled character, she has recently left her husband when she found out he was having an affair with the local stripper. Her husband, her childhood best friend turned-lover-turned-husband, is also a cop so life is awkward.

The towns chief refuses to let Josie back from suspension so she starts to look into the disappearance of the girl herself; and she starts to uncover some terrible secrets.

Everybody she thinks to turn to for help might be put in danger, or may put her in danger. In turmoil and not knowing who to trust Josie uncovers historical crimes that she links to the disappearance of the girl. Her one-woman investigation goes from looking for a missing girl to looking for a serial killer.

This book is brilliant. The story had me hooked from the start and kept me engrossed throughout.

The culmination of the investigation is not at the end of the story. Thankfully Lisa Regan has continued past the end game of the crimes to include the inquest that goes on after the perpetrator has been found. But did he work alone, and has Josie got everybody involved.

Thankfully there are more Josie Quinn books on the way and I, for one, can’t wait for the next.

Whilst I was reading this the style of writing and the story reminded me of another of my favourite authors. So, I have no hesitation in recommending this book to anybody who likes books by Greg Isles

This was a great first book in the Josie Quinn Series. It keeps you gripped page by page. It is a riveting read, I completed it in 3 days, totally absorbed in the cahracters and storyline, which was tense, disconcerting and suspenseful. I can't wait for the next one in the series and to see how Josie's career and personal life develops.
