★★ 3.5 stars! ★★

I hate to say it, but pretty much every reader finds themselves in a dreaded book funk once in a while. What’s a reader to do? Well, when that happens to me, I read a book outside my trusty, go-to contemporary romance genre—which lead me to pick up Murder Notes. I needed something different to break out of the rut I was in and this did just the trick.

Back in the mid-90s (yes, I’m dating myself here), I loved watching a show called Profiler. It was about a woman who worked for a violent crimes task force while hunting an unknown killer from her past. Sam was nonsense, analytical, and sharp while on the job, but emotional about the horrific event that happened to her. I loved that show and since Lilah Love from Murder Notes is quite similar in character and situation, I was glued to my Kindle.

Lilah is a profiler for the FBI who is hunting a potential serial killer, while also trying to figure out how her past trauma ties into the current murders. She’s brash, strong-willed, demanding, and smart—that is until she runs into her ex at a scene.

While this isn’t a romance per se, there are romantic undertones that run through the story based on the history of Lilah and her ex, Kane. He’s the son of a mafia boss who seems to be the opposite of his father. However, there are so many questions left to be answered, we don’t really know if that’s the case or not.

Lilah isn’t the most likable of heroines, but I enjoyed getting to know her. There are multiple flashback scenes which offer a peek into why she acts the way she does now. I really want to know more about what happened and how Kane fits into the backstory.

I also need to know who the real killer is, so I know I will be reading the next book as soon as it’s available. I’m rooting for an HEA for Lilah and Kane, even if that isn’t the direction the next book takes. She needs some happiness in her life!

Murder Notes is the first book in Lisa Renee Jones 'Lilah Love series'. It's full of mystery, drama, and a whole lot suspense, which is something I've always enjoyed about Lisa Renee Jones books.

I won't go into the story at all because the synopsis covers a perfect description of the story.

Items I enjoyed about Murder Notes:

-Lilah Love's POV. Some readers would want another POV in a story, but I actually enjoy one POV, especially with suspenseful stories. It leaves the reader asking questions on who the killer is and what is going on in the story.

-Lilah Love's character. She's kind of heartless and closed off.  She's not a normal character I would like in a story because of how she is. After finding out what happened to her though, I definitely can understand why she's heartless and closed off. She's great at her job too as a FBI profiler. She's determined more than ever, which is something I definitely like about her. She also knows how to deal with her family. She's not someone to mess with.

-The crazy spinning story. Lisa Renee Jones knows how to keep a reader guessing. It doesn't help with all the other characters in the story. Who could be the killer or killers? Could it be Lilah's ex-lover? I definitely don't know because Murder Notes only opened up a little bit of what's going on. Poor Lilah has a whole lot of investigating that still is going to happen. She also has to figure out who is writing the notes to her about her past.

-Kane Mendez. He sounds really sexy, but he's also very intimidating. I don't know what to make of him, even after just a few of the run ins with him the story. I don't know if I should like him or not like him. There is something about him though. He has a past with Lilah and supposedly he's trying to have a present with her. She's not making it easy for him. Good for you Lilah! Although, at the end of Murder Notes, maybe she definitely needs him more in her life.

Overall, this book was definitely a whirl wind of craziness that I definitely need more of, especially with that crazy cliffhanger. It doesn't help with the sneak peek of the next book at the very end of this book. Lisa Renee Jones knows how to write an awesome romantic suspense story.

I give the first book in the Lilah Love series 4.5 stars and highly recommend it to readers that enjoy Romantic Suspense stories. If you've read other books from Lisa Renee Jones, you'll definitely enjoy the first book in her new series. If you haven't read any of her books, I definitely recommend you do soon.

Romantic suspense has always been my first love when it comes to reading. It was my go to for years and I devoured everything Lisa Jackson, Nancy Bush, Lisa Gardner wrote. Now I can add Lisa Renee Jones to that list.
Lilah Love is fierce! She is a tell it like it is, no nonsense, kind of girl that thrives on getting in to the mind of the most depraved people. While she comes off as cold and calculated, you come to find out she's a lot more complicated than you first thought. To me, it seemed she is so meticulous with her work because the rest of her life is such a hot mess.
The plot is intriguing and will keep you guessing right up until the cliff hanger ending. For me, it had a bit of everything....crime families, potential political scandal, a brooding former lover that is helping you hide a secret, famous people keeping up appearances....all taking place in the playground of the rich and famous...the Hamptons.
Lilah's sarcastic wit was a good contrast to Kane, the aforementioned brooding former lover. These two are hot with sexual tension and unresolved feelings. I can't get a good read on him yet. Is he good? Is he bad? I can really understand Lilah's frustration with him, because you just don't know.
Murder Notes is definitely one of my top reads of the year so far and I can't wait to get more of Lilah Love

Tricky ending.

Wow. I wasn't sure what to expect and was quite surprised by how engrossed in the story I was from beginning to end. Only it's not really the end. The second part doesn't release until July. I predict bad things are gonna happen. Bad things.

Lilah Love is bad a**! This book is incredible, truly! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I need to know who the murderer is. I can not wait, ugh. I really liked how this is a true suspense and the bedroom scenes did not distract from that. The sexual tension between Kane and Lilah are hot, though. A masterpiece from Ms. Jones.

I was really excited to have a new Lisa Renee Jones series to start, and the awesome cover drew my eye immediately. The heroine she creates for this series is FBI agent Lilah Love who specializes in getting inside the heads of murderers. This time, however, it almost seems like someone is trying to get inside hers. The case takes her back to her past and the town where she grew up. It is also the place that holds her deepest darkest secret and her deepest darkest former love, Kane. Lilah encounters resistance at every turn, and the case just gets more and more twisted. With Kane and the secret they share added to the mix, there is plenty to hold your attention. While there is some steamy attraction sizzling, Lilah doesn't plan to ever get back with Kane. The story ends on a cliffhanger with quite a few dead bodies, a note leaving stalker, and a couple of mad exes. The next installment releases in the summer, and I will be ready for another dose of the fearlessly blunt and often foul mouthed FBI agent.

I requested an ARC from Net Galley.

Murder Notes is a captivating and consuming murder mystery that will keep you on your toes and keep your mind spiraling.

Lilah love left behind her home and her past lover over two years ago and is now a FBI agent. When a series of murders in LA lead her back to her hometown, Lilah is forced not only to face her past but to face the possibility that her life could be in danger.

I kept my recap pretty basic for the simple fact that I want readers to go into this without much expectation. From the blurb, you know that there are a series of murders and that somehow Lilah is connected to them. What we get from all of this is a history that is do deep rooted in the Hamptons that it's easy to question every single person in Lilah's  life. No one is off limits and the entire time I felt like every one was a suspect.

I like the way Jones wrote the store to keep you captivated and to keep you guessing. Just when you think you have everyone figured out, something changes that and you are back to square one again.

Without giving anything away, I'm just going to say that it's been a while since I've been so intrigued by someone as mysterious as Kane Mendez. I didn't get enough of him in this book and I'm dying to get my hands on the next one. Not only to find out answers but to just get more of him.

"I could say no. I should say no. But he is the answer to the storm inside me that hasn't been answered in far too long. And he owes that to me."

If you are looking for a romantic suspense that gives you a feisty FBI agent with a dirty mouth of a sailor who has a lot of men from her past and present that give her a run for her money and quite frankly test her nerves every single second, then Murder Notes is the book for you!

Ohhh does Lisa Renee Jones has me going OMG with this story. First I love the concept. Female profiler.. Hello epicness. Add the amazing storyline and unbelievable twists, I found that I could not put this book down at all. I really enjoyed how Lilah and Kane clash together in the most unexpected ways. The passion and the sizzle with the intrigue had me enjoying every moment of this book.
Overall, this was a great start to a new series and yes it does end on a cliffhanger so be prepared. But I honestly was begging for more. I did not want it to stop and all I wanted to do was immerse myself even deeper into this story. This story keeps you on your toes and gets your mind working! If you are a fan of Jones, you will not be disappointed in this one either!

Ms. Jones has become one of my favorite authors and has yet again gone into another type of romance...this time suspense. She has done an amazing job with this book. Lilah is an FBI profile that is tracking a serial killer/possible assassin that leads her back to her hometown and her family. She has a past with a drug lord there that she can't get away from and that past starts coming back to haunt her. As she continues to work on her FBI case, it seems the killer has set eyes on Lilah next. This is the first in the series and I can't wait to read the next!

Murder Notes is a fast paced romantic suspense that just grabbed me from the start and pulled me right into the story.

“I was Lilah Love then, but now, damn it, I am Murder Girl. I’m her because dead bodies have a way of talking to me, and if they didn’t, there would be more dead bodies, more murders I didn’t stop.”

FBI profiler, Agent Lilah Love has to return to her hometown while investigating a series of seeming execution style murders. The victims have nothing in common except the method of the murder and the only common thread is Lilah herself.

“My dilemma now becomes, how do I solve this case and not convict myself in the process?”

When Lilah left she left behind Kane Mendez the son of a cartel leader. She needed to keep her distance from that sexy temptation.

“He’s a tall drink of poison that I’ve already swallowed and felt the repercussions from.”

Murder Notes is the first book in a new series featuring FBI Agent Lilah Love and it’s the first book I’ve read by this author. All I can say is I am now a big fan! I can hardly wait for the next book in this series, but I think I’ll check out some more Lisa Renee Jones books while waiting!
-4.5 Stars!!-

It’s been two years since Lilah Love left her life behind in East Hampton. Two years since that devastating night, that changed her forever... She now is an FBI Profiler and very good at her job. She’s been investing a string of murders that seems to most to a serial killer, but Lilah thinks it’s definitely the work of an assassin. All the victims are stripped naked and shot between the eyes. Then she gets called back to her hometown in East Hampton when a similar murder happens there. Upon arriving, she begins receiving Murder Notes. It seems Kane, the local crime lord’s son, AKA her ex, and herself weren’t the only witnesses to that horrible night. As she works closer to getting to the truth, the more people that end up dead and the more letters she receives and is it possible that her dad, the town Mayor, and her brother, the chief of Police, could actually be shady?! And Kane Mendez? Can she trust any of them? Can she figure out who the killer is without revealing her secrets or possibly even ending up the next victim?!
OMG! I couldn’t put this book down!! And Lisa is the queen of cliffhangers!! I’m dying to find out what happens next!! Lilah and Kane’s chemistry is intense! They definitely have a love-hate thing going on!! I’m wondering what direction their relationship will go in this next book!! And Rich seems like a sweetie and a hottie but I just don’t think it’s there for Lilah. I definitely recommend this book and can’t wait for the thrilling conclusion!! How long do I have to wait?!

MURDER NOTES is the first instalment in Lisa Renee Jones’ contemporary, adult LILAH LOVE romantic, suspense thriller series focusing on FBI profiler Lilah Love. A series of murders, all fitting the same MO and assassin style shooting finds our heroine jetting across the country towards the rich and famous, and a past she can’t soon forget. The Hamptons were once our heroine’s pride and joy but murderous demons and the death of her beloved mother forced Lilah away from her family and the man she once loved. Now that her brother is police chief, and her father is schmoozing the political elite, Lilah Love must tread carefully where others refuse to go but in doing so begins to unravel a close connection to everyone she knows. As more bodies begin to pile up, so too do the threatening ‘notes’ that speak of a past, she was hoping to forget.

MURDER NOTES is a story of suspense; a thrilling roller coaster ride of suspects and victims, friends and enemies, the Mexican Cartel, family secrets and too many lies. No one is talking; everyone is suspect; clues and evidence are altered as our heroine struggles to uncover the truth. Lisa Renee Jones pushes the boundaries of expectation and uncertainty leaving the reader with the disquietude of apprehension and anxiety. The romance aspect is limited but our heroine does reconnect with the man she once loved, a dangerous man whose connections run deep. MURDER NOTES is a detailed, complex and heart pounding thriller that ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

Two years ago she fled the Hamptons and moved to LA to try and forget what happened. She is an accomplished FBI profiler who finds that her latest case may be connected to a case in her hometown so she heads back hoping that the secrets in her past will remain secret.

It is further complicated when she finds out her stalker has followed her and now she must not only deal with her father who is the mayor, her brother who is the police chief and Kane, her ex-boyfriend who is trying to make his father’s mafia business legal.

The characters are complex and compelling and the story is packed full of twists, suspense and intrigue as she tries to uncover the truth about who is behind the killings before she becomes the next victim. This is part one of a duet and does end on a cliff hanger. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of the book.

Lilah Love is an absolutely brilliant FBI profiler. She is able to see inside the minds of the depraved individuals that commit heinous crimes. She is on the case of a crime that seems to be targeting her and a secret she holds dear to heart. Returning home to the Hamptons, she is confronted with the past she ran away from. Trying to find the answers causes her to deal with more questions and try to stay two steps in front of a lethal killer. Absolutely brilliant start to a new series. Cannot wait to see where the next book takes Lilah.
