I've read several books by Joseph Reid and have enjoyed them all. His books are easy to follow and very fast paced. Many times I had to stop reading and didn't want to. I highly recommend this book and anything else that he's written.

If you have read some of the other reviews of this book, my experience was a combination of them all. This book was action-packed, which I happened to enjoy and it kept me engaged to the end. There were plot twists and turns that sure kept me wondering what was coming next. The read was easy enough that it was relaxing at the end of the day, so it was a good nighttime read. However, I have to wonder about the title, which seems to have nothing to do with the book at all. The ending was not a cliffhanger, but rather, everything seemed to be explained in such detail that nothing was left for the imagination for the second book in the series. In fact, I finished the book last night and I have to go back and read the the last couple of chapters because I am trying to remember how it ended. All things told, this was an entertaining read, but not great.

A good first novel. The characters were well developed. The story was very good with twists and turns in the plot. I subtracted a couple of stars as the author would at times just write and write and write. Sometimea less is more. In this novel there were definite times when less would have made a more interesting book. It definitely isn't as strong as jack reacher but has potential

Seth Walker is an unusual government detective in a bizarre situation while guarding a pop star. Yhe characters are interesting and complex. The story moves at a good pace - at time Seth seems a bit like superman but I like the action. Lots of twists - hard to tell the bad guys.

Absolutely engaging from the first paragraph to last with action, emotion and (at times) humor. I’m looking forward to seeing more of Reid’s new series. Tight writing with a feel for character voice

Takeoff is the first book in the Seth Walker series written by author Joseph Reid. I liked the characters and storyline. Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas and Mercer for the advance copy.

An excellent first novel and beginning to a series. I’m already looking forward to next year’s sequel. Hopefully, more of Walker’s backstory will come out. As the protagonist, Seth Walker is a very likable, strong character. His background as a tech expert and air marshall are an interesting mix that are brought together well as he protects child star Max Magic from a variety of pursuers. Following a shootout at LAX, Walker skillfully navigates through Southern California and several Southwestern states with a reluctant charge trying to determine who are the good guys and who are the bad guys.

Really excellent novel. A U. S. Marshall is tasked with accompanying a young pop star on.a cross country flight. He is to turn her over to the FBI on arrival. Everything is fine until they arrive, when they are met not only by the FBI, but also by what could almost be described as an army, one of soldiers speaking a foreign language and bearing strange facial tattoos. From then on, it’s a race to escape these men. Who seem intent on killing the young girl.

The only thing that seemed off about this book was that there was so much unexplained backstory, it seemed like there must have been a previous s book. I couldn’t find one, though.

All in all, the book was great and highly recommended.
