CLOSE TO THE EDGE is the fifth in the Unbroken Hearts series but stood alone quite well for me even though I haven't read any of the others in the series. Jenna Henson finds herself involved with very secret agents from a covert government organization when she goes to Kirkland Grog's house as a substitute chef for her best friend who is a caterer. She walks right in on a team of agents who are bugging the house to try to get evidence that Kirkland is a criminal who specializes in human trafficking.

For some unknown reason, Kirkland decides to eliminate her which sort of baffled me since he wasn't home when she arrived, she was subdued by the good guys almost immediately, and removed from the scene. Luckily, the good guys had chipped her like a puppy which let them know when Kirkland's men kidnapped her. Dare Servant should have been able to treat her like any other witness but somehow she got to this dedicated agent.

He knows he isn't good for her since he is married to his very dangerous job. But Jenna needs protection and Dare wants to provide it. This story had hot romance and creepy villains. There was action and adventure in a twisty plot.

I read an eARC of this book and had some problems that will, hopefully, be corrected before the book is published. The book has been run through a spellchecker and the spellings are correct but there are a number of cases where the wrong word was chosen for the sentence. Sometimes this was amusing and sometimes it was confusing.

Fans of romantic suspense will enjoy this story which nicely balances the romance and the suspense.

I cannot rate this book as I did not read it. My copy starts on chapter two (first chapter missing) and appears to end abruptly, mid chapter. I suspect the remaining chapters weren't included in my copy, either.

I started this book right away feeling very lost as if I started the book in the middle of a chapter. I stopped picked up the first 4 books and quickly reviewed them thinking I missed something from the last book.

No I didn't miss anything.

This is the first book in the Unbroken Heroess series you will need to start with the previous books to even come close to understand what is going on. After being lost the story quickly recover with sexual tension that is steamy but is taken care of pretty fast. The story fills in the gaps as well as adds to the mystery of the series which started with book one.

I would have given it a 5 but the author wrote the story as if you already know who the woman is and why the bugged her house. Dare is from the other books but I didn't remember him until I reviewed the others in the series. This book is a mess of epic proportions from the throw away characters and the story that started in book 1. Nothing flows and many times the sex takes over the story leaving readers wondering what they are reading. Romance? Suspense? Or Erotic?

The characters are lost in a mess keeping this reader from connecting to the story. I enjoyed most books in this series but this one left me wondering what I missed?

Thank you to Netgelley and St. Martin's Paperbacks for the advance copy

Close to the edge is a good suspense. I have not read others in the series and that didn’t pose a problem. Good plot and writing

Received this arc form the publishers, I didn't realize it was book 4 in the Unbroken Heroes series.
This book deals with Human trafficking, the main characters are Dare and Jenna, I didn't enjoy this one, I got to about 47% and DNF :(

Let me start out by saying that this book is a standalone in the series, however, to get full impact of the outlying characters, their motives, their background, you need to start at the beginning. You will not regret reading the entire series...so far. I thought Saxon was my favorite character in this series but Dare has moved right up beside Saxon. This is a fast-paced, thrilling, and yes hot, edge of your seat ride. Every page makes you want to read just a little more. Just when you think it is over, bam another wrench thrown in the mix. Dare and Jenna’s romance is not pushed into the background like some romantic suspense novels but kept me captivated as much as the suspense. And who knew Kagan had a soft heart? Not me! Who will be caught next in this world of presidential elections, the Shadow Ops guys and the very bad guys?

Simply an awesome romantic suspense story with lots of action and romance. Close to the Edge is a winner. I really liked Dawn Ryder's writing. It was exceptional and I can't wait to read more. Dare meets his match when he runs into Jenna.

The format of this book is a disaster! The chapters are re to long and there are so many things going on your completely overwhelmed and there are no breaks as to who is talking and changing characters pop in this book is just so back and forth so quickly I'm lost!! There is no back story nothing for us to understand what's going on in this book. Awful! Re-format this book.

I like this series and where it's headed as to bringing down the bigdogs and the Special Ops teams saving the day. With that said, this book was a harder one in the series for me to read or follow. If I hadn't read other books in the series I think I would have been lost and unable to follow at all. As it was, even after reading the other books, this book felt like it jumped all over the place.

I liked it, but not as much as the other books in the series. I can't quite put my finger on what it was but the characters just didn't mean as much to me as the other ones.

It would be beneficial to indicate that this book is part of a series and reading the others in the series will help. I was so lost, right from the start, that I could not engage

Close to the Edge by Dawn Ryder is hot thrilling read. I couldn't stop reading it. Dawn Ryder created characters with both beauty and intellect. That made for a strong combination. The story was packed full of action, danger, and heat. The protagonists were like watching a moth to a flame. Their attraction was believable and unbreakable. The risks for them both increase as enemies seek to destroy them both. Death is hanging in the air, and it will take everything they have to survive. Overall, I recommend this stunning romantic suspense title to all readers.

Sometimes a book just won't click for you. That was certainly my experience with this one.. The first chapter was baffling. I get that it is part of a series but right out of the gate I was completely lost. I even went back and read the blurb to see if it was part two of story line. I kept thinking I'd catch up but nothing made sense from the first page to the last. Usually snagging a series a few books in might leave you with a few questions but it rarely detracts from the reading experience. I think to be fair to the book I would have to read the series from the start.

Wow! This is a very fast paced romantic suspense that kept me turning pages just as quickly as possible. I love the Shadow Ops series and found this novel to be a great addition to the series. Jenna is a law abiding citizen drawn into a dark world against her will. When Dare, a Shadow Ops operative, intervenes, she finds her life turned completely upside down...both by circumstance and by her attraction to him. Dare doesn't ever get emotional and always refers to the client/victim as "the package". Somehow, all of his skills can't seem to protect him from a woman he is convinced is lying to him.

I loved the relationship between Dare and Jenna and really loved Jenna's character. The author made me care about them and feel invested in their story. This is a must read for fans of the genre. The author is on my must read authors' list.
