I received this free eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.

This has been on my TBR pile for so long, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. I really enjoyed the storyline and seeing the characters change throughout the story was a great character development. The plot was great and kept my attention. I'm glad I got the chance to read this and will be on the lookout for more in the future!

Really great at filling a lot of the story that we wouldn’t have necessarily seen in the main books! I love the memories and the song/poems as it gives us a lot more insight. I don’t think it’s particularly important but it’s a really great addition either way.

Loved this installment. Fast and fun read! I love how deep and rich this world has gotten. Can’t wait to read more!

I really enjoyed reading this book! I for some reason thought that it took place ages ago in the world-and I was technically right, at least part of it were. But mainly it focused on Ryber and Kullen, taking place about a year before the events of Truthwitch.

I felt so badly for Ryber in this book. We basically got to watch her sanity slip, especially once she was the only one not called. But once she sets out, man, is she a force to watch out for! I loved her interactions with Kullen. But knowing what their future holds, well, I need to know what's going to happen to them next!

The parts around Eridysi, her of Eridysi's lament fame, were some of my favourite parts. Like we got to see how the undercity from Windwitch was developed and the reasons for it. I loved the history, I loved learning about the magic, and how things were lost over time, details misconstrued. And I can't wait to see how this is going to come together!

I loved what this book added to the world, of the goddess Sirmaya, and how they have to heal her. And I can't wait to see how this all ties into what we already know, with the Cahr Awen. Plus we learned loads more about the Twelve Paladins, which so far have only had brief mentions.

This was a fantastic book, and I'm dying for more, but I'm going to have a long wait, because I want to read Bloodwitch and Witchshadow basically back to back, and the later doesn't come out till late June!

Set a year before Truthwitch, Sightwitch follows Ryber Fortiza, the last Sightwitch Sister as she treks deep underground to rescue her missing best friend. While there, she encounters a young Nubrevnan named Kullen Ikray, who has no memory of who he is or how he wound up inside the mountain. As the two journey ever deeper in search of answers, and as they brave one close call after another, a tentative friendship forms between them—one that might one day grow into something more.

Sightwitch is told through Ryber’s journal entries and her sketches, as well as through supplementary materials (such as other journals, pieces of songs, clippings from history books, flashbacks, etc.). Though meant as a companion novella, this story serves as a set up to Bloodwitch as well as an expansion of the world.

I enjoyed the heck out of this! I didn't know what was going on half the time, but that's probably my own fault for not having read Truthwitch (or the others in the series first).

Sightwitch intrigued me. It was a tantalizing peek into the world and types of characters that I'll get in the books (I hope).

I am sorry for the inconvenience but I don’t have the time to read this anymore and have lost interest in the concept - I cannot in a reasonable time read the first two books of Truthwitch, although I might in the future. I believe that it would benefit your book more if I did not skim your book and write a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience.

This book was only a couple hundred pages in total, so it really didn’t take that long to read it. Especially when you consider that the whole thing is told in journal entries with artwork scattered throughout as well.

I will say that even though it is set a whole year before Truthwitch, I would read it after Windwitch, just so you appreciate the character moments and you understand the world to a better extent. This novella does not set up the world in a manner that would make it the best first read of the series. However, if you are someone who re-reads, then I could see reading this one first during a re-read so you can read everything in chronological order.

Honestly, I don’t know if I was more interested in Ryber’s part of the tale, or Erydysi’s…I may have like Erydysi’s journal entries more. And I’m very curious to see how those elements influence the rest of the series. Because I’m sure that Sooz definitely has a plan, and certain details of this novella have to be important for Bloodwitch and beyond.

The Ryber and Kullen interactions were really fun too, especially knowing their relationship in Truthwitch. I also liked learning more about the Paladins, and Sightwitches in general, because I feel like these details are all starting to pull together and connect in interesting ways. I like how each installment in the Witchlands series just keeps adding to what we know and understand about the world and its history and its magic. It really is cool worldbuilding.

I guess I didn’t give this a 5 star rating because in some ways, I think I wanted just a little more from this installment. I enjoyed what I was given, and it wasn’t bad by any means. But I think I would have been okay if this had been expanded to more of a full-length novel, perhaps with a bit more focus on the lessons and training before being summoned to become a Sightwitch.

I’ve grown to really enjoy Susan Dennard as a writer. Not just because I enjoy reading her books, but also because of all of the writing advice she gives. She is just so open about her plotting, drafting, revising, and publishing processes, and I really respect that. Since I joined her newsletter, I have saved every single e-mail, in case I need to refresh myself on her words of wisdom.

I have been really looking forward to the third installment of the Witchland series, so when the third title got pushed back, I was ecstatic to see that we were getting at least a novella. I don't read much of them but this one was worth it because it followed a character I liked, and there were pictures. Dennard also did a great job with the diary like entries - not everyone can pull them off, but her writing style nailed it. You also get to learn more about a world a was really curious about. Even if you aren't a novella person, I truly do recommend this one!

This was yet another great addition to this world. I loved how it was an illustrated novella and it just added so much depth and worldbuilding to this amazing world!

If you haven't started reading The Witchlands series, do it now, it's full of witches, magic, friendship stories and some romance thrown in so a little bit of everything. And this book? It was the perfect novella for the series.

We go back, back in time and get to meet Ryber, more like read her story in the form of her journal entries and oh man it was such a nice ride. Ryber is a Sightwitch on a convent, a secluded one, one that no one can find unless you have the gift of foretelling. Ryber first goes there as a little girl and has been there since then waiting for her turn to be called by her goddess to receive the gift, but as the years go by and she never gets called she finds herself the only Sister without the Sight.

Until one day, all the Sisters even the ones who have the Sight all summoned to the mountain and they never return. Ryber is the only one left at the convent and as the days go by she they never return she decides that she needs to go after them in order to save them.

After she is set in her journey underground, she meets a young captain named Kullen, who has no clue who he is and how he got there. At first she isn't sure if she wants him to help her, but eventually she realizes that he could be could helpful and together they go deeper in search of answers. Answers that will change the fate of the Witchlands forever.

I loved how this book was more about the journey and the answers behind everything then about romance. I also loved getting to know more about the older magic and history of the Witchlands, totally a sucker for that.

5 out of 5 stars and I can't wait to continue with the rest of the series.

Nice little preview for this book, but I actually overlooked that it was not the entire book when I send the request in so wasn't exactly what I expected. Still nice preview.

*This book was given to me by NetGalley in return for a honest review*

Novella's are hard for me, if I really like it, I'm left wanting more. That's definitely the case with this story. I am already invested in this series and thought that the prequel added so much more to the story. I especially enjoyed the way the story was told through the journal, maps and illustrations.

Ahhh Susan Dennard just never fails to impress! I loved this addition to the Witchlands world and it answered SO many questions that I had while leaving even more questions! I loved reading about Ryber and where she came from and how the Sightwitches play a huge part in the story. Another thing I loved was the mixed media! That has become one of my favorite things in books now days. This book definitely has me amped for Bloodwitch!

So, Sightwitch is told in a found-footage style, but with journals and letters. Most of the entries are by Ryber, but some are from Eridysi and Tanzi. I liked the collection of maps, drawings, notes and other thoughts written here.

This book is the origin of Ryber, who was introduced in Truthwitch. Ryber Fortiza is a sister at the convent waiting to gain her gift of Sight. Before she is called into the mountain, however, events happen that leave her as the last sister. To save her fellow sisters, she must venture alone into the mountain. Complicating matters is the Nubrevnan ship who have docked nearby.

When Ryber does enter the mountain, we learn a lot more about the mythology of the witchlands. Also, while she is there, we finally get to find out how Ryber met Kullen.

I totally recommend if you're waiting on Bloodwitch.

The Witchlands series is one of my favorite series ever since I read the first book, Truthwitch. This is why I've been anticipating this book so much.
I loved reading what happened a year before Truthwitch. Literally any book in this world will be my favorite thing and I cannot wait for the series to continue on and to see my favorite characters again! I definitely recommend this book if you're a big fan of this book series!

Sightwitch takes place one year before the events of Truthwitch, as well as one thousand years in the past. It is not strictly a new book in the series or a prequel, but a way for the author to further expand the world and mythology of the Witchlands. It was fascinating to read how the Witchlands found itself one day with magic as the "True Tale of the Twelve" Paladins unfolds. Despite the fact that this is a novella, it does not feel lacking and brings a deepening of the world that we have grown to love.

The story is written as if it is a collection of journal entries, collected to form a cohesive narrative with the addition of illustrations made by the authors. It primarily switches between Ryber's and Eridysi's points of view, which adds a wonderful dimension to the story as they lived 1,000 years apart. Ryber found her way to the Sightwitches when she was only four years of age and has always been told that she will have the strongest Sight. She follows the rules and doesn't laugh often, but cares deeply about her Sightwitch family and her path.

It was nice to see allusions to or even appearances from characters that we are familiar with from the main series. It helped to bridge the storylines and grow a sense of wonder that makes you curious as to how this will tie in with the third book, Bloodwitch when it comes out. And I'm sure it will all come full circle.

I was fascinated by the mythology that she wove into this story. It gave us a depth of understanding about the powers in the Witchlands that we didn't have before. Despite the fact that it is a novella, it packed a satisfying amount of information into its pages and makes me so excited for the next book in the series. I was so happy to re-inhabit this world and highly recommend the book (and the series) to anyone who hasn't discovered it yet.

Since we only got a glimpse into this world, I want the full story as soon as possible. I can tell that this series will be one of a kind.

This is more of a story for people who are already invested in the witchland series. It's a prequel book so it's not as long but has great info about who they are and how they are created. I bought this book after reading this excerpt so I do recommend for fans of the series!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this eARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
