I read one chapter of Dawson’s Web, which I received from Net Galley in advance of publication, before I quit and deleted it from my library of ebooks. This is obviously a first-time writer, and the writing was so bad I couldn’t make myself read further. Stilted, amateurish, formulaic. Just plain bad.
LAPD detective Fred McCallister is all set to retire when he's pulled into an investigation of a schizophrenic serial killer.
That sounded good ... interesting ... and it's a genre I prefer reading. However, there seems to be a cast in the thousands, so they say. None of them have any redeeming qualities, they are all liars, cheats, blackmailers, a broker under investigation by the SEC, or they work for a vicious crime lord.
The story line ran into all kinds of directions and I lost all interest in any of them. The book has received good reviews, unfortunately, mine is not one them. The one positive I saw ...the cover which is very enticing.
Many thanks to the author / BooksGoSocial / #Dawson'sWeb #NetGalley for the digital copy. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Dawson's web by William a Hutchinson.
A thirty-year LAPD detective, Fred McCallister, was hoping to cruise quietly into retirement. Instead, he’s drawn into an investigation of a schizophrenic serial killer , Jeffrey Dawson, who, as it turns out, only murders women who resemble his stepmother.
A very enjoyable read with good characters. Little slow in places. 4*.
