This is about a group of women on a reality show centered around successful women and their lives.

*Think Real Housewives of whatever and that’s the show they went for here. *

The central plot of this story revolves around the death of Brett and how it came to be. The tension is consistent throughout the story and makes you keep wondering who is ultimately responsible for her death and why it happened. I found myself personally repulsed by nearly all the main characters. They were truly horrible and I’m pretty sure that was intentional on the authors part. That being said, I loved the story and how it progressed, culminating in the big reveal at the end.

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

After reading Luckiest Girl Alive, I knew what Jess Knoll was capable of. I also loved the sound of The Favorite Sister. But did it live up to my expectations?

The Favorite Sister is a book that should sit well with most reality TV fans. I am not a fan of The Real Housewives franchise or The Bachelor franchise (however that is just me!) After reading this, I felt like I needed a shower. All the dirty details, secrets, underhandness of the characters.

What I Liked:

The cover. It was def eye-catching.

What I THINK Jess ultimate message was: I’m paraphrasing here- but one of the character’s (Stephanie, I think) was talking about what the show was supposed to be about- a showing of the accomplishments and support amongst the women- but that no one wants to watch a show like that- so that is how the show became what it is- and ultimately became popular,

I think Jess Knoll wanted to shine a light on society in general- why can’t we want to watch a show where the women support each other and everyone is kind? It’s a question I can’t answer- other than to say that it doesn’t make for good TV.

What I didn’t like:

The characters. By the end, nobody had any redeeming qualities. Each time you thought someone had went as low as they could- there was someone else ready and willing to go even lower.

Bottom line: At first, after I finished this book- I really liked it. But the more I thought about it, the less I liked it. I do think book clubs would enjoy being able to pick this book apart.

Definitely a fun read. I like this author and will continue to recommend titles by her. I appreciate the ARC and wish the author well with this book.

I am sorry for the inconvenience, but I don't have the time to read this book anymore and have lost interest in the concept. I believe that it would benefit your book more if I did not skim your book and write a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience.

I would like to thank the publisher for the advanced copy of this novel. While it sounded like a book I would love, there was something about it and I wasn’t able to connect with the characters. Unfortunately, I was unable to finish the book after multiple attempts. It sadly just wasn’t for me. Although I will definitely try this authors next read.

As a reality tv junkie and avid mystery/thriller reader, I was slightly disappointed. This was a mediocre, so-so mystery that didn't have enough punch-packing twists.

I thought this was a really good book but there were some parts I had to read over because they didn’t make sense. Just too many similar women to follow.
I’m a sucker for reality drama so I guess that’s why I liked this more than some of the other reviewers.

I really thought I would like this book from the description. However, I unfortunately couldn’t get into this story. I struggled with the writing, the plot and the language. I wanted to stop reading this book so many times, but I kept reading hoping that I’d end up enjoying this later on. That time never came. I pushed through, and I never found any interest in the story.

As a reality TV junkie and Bravo aficionado, I was immediately intrigued by The Favorite Sister’s plot, which follows 5 women who are featured on a Real Housewives-esque reality tv show called Goal Diggers. Interrupting all of the juicy, yet petty drama that ensues between the colorful personalities of each castmate is an unexpected murder. As we discover the deep sibling rivalry and the circumstances surrounding a key cast member’s demise, we untangle a web of deception, secrets and lies that tell a much darker story. I did find Jessica Knoll’s writing style sometimes too descriptive and hard to follow, but I did enjoy the overall premise to fuel my reality TV addiction now in book form!

I couldn’t get into it. And I really loved Knoll’s debut. Luckiest Girl Alive was one of my favorites the year it debuted. Knoll is still a solid writer.

Jessica Knoll knows how to tell a story. I love her first book and I really enjoyed this one. It was positively binge-worthy.

I really didn't enjoy reading this book, especially after falling so deeply for The Luckiest Girl Alive. I was expecting a similarly deep world, and this felt like it was written quickly and without as much care. There's also a major case of queer bating/queerness as a lie, which I'm not a fan of at all.

This book was both intriguing and suspenseful, leaving me eager to devour it! I'm usually not to keen on different points of view as well as timeline jumps, but the book just flowed so well.

There are so many mixed reviews for this one. Don’t let me sway you! If you enjoy your dose of reality TV, (our secret🤫) then you may really enjoy this one!

What a great stand alone thriller! I loved the complex and often manipulative dynamic between these two sisters! A true in depth look into siblings complicated and often ugly relationship. The twist at the end was great! Happy reading!!

Love watching any of the Housewives franchises? You’ll love reading this book. It’s the perfect look at the behind the scenes of a housewives series that’s in the process of filming. But at the same time you’re getting the present day perspective of cast members as they look back on filming that season and how it all ended up going wrong. Knoll some how manages to find a way to make you care about every character, while also hating everyone just a little bit. At the same time, you're also help in suspense, making you not want to put the book down. This book really is perfect for any Bravo fan.

I absolutely loved Luckiest Girl Alive, Jessica Knoll's first book so I was excited to have the chance to read this one. Unfortunately The Favorite Sister fell flat with me. I had a hard time connecting with the main characters and keeping my mind on the book as I read. It pains me to write a review like this but I felt it was my duty to do so since I was given an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I will still read whatever Jessica Knoll puts out next!

I will not be publishing this review on any other sites.

This book took me a while to get into because of all the characters and I didn't particularly like any of them. I just didn't care that much about what happened to any of them. I will say that I was surprised by the ending, I didn't see that coming, but otherwise, I just didn't like it. all that much.

This book was really interesting. The characters were engaging and there were a few twists at the end that honestly I never saw coming. I read this straight through with out putting it down! Highly recommend it

I was a fan of Knoll's blockbuster hit, Luckiest Girl Alive, so I was looking forward to reading her next book. The premise, suspense mystery in the world of housewives reality tv, sounded promising but the especially slow and a bit confusing back and forth between narratives, in the beginning, made it hard to start. However, once I made it through the first bit, I became more invested in the characters (I still didn't like them, though) and wanted to see what had happened. We know that there are secrets and lies between the characters but how did it lead to death?

Although I don't think it was much of a suspense novel, I did think the observations of modern-day media & feminism was interesting to read especially in a novel. Knoll's flawed characters are again interesting but I felt the voices of each character became blurry at times. What Knoll does best is to expose readers to the darker sides of her characters and the complex "rules" and labels of our modern society. This is more of a character piece and not a suspense thriller. Not her best.
