This was the third book in a series, but the first one that I read. It does work as a standalone, but it would help to know the background stories. This was a combo of suspense and romance. Jet is ex-military working as a security specialist to find the bad guy "the recruiter". When Dr. Sam receives death threats he makes it his personal duty to keep her safe at all times. 24 hours a day. How can they resist each other when working so closely? With two bad guys after her will they be able to prevent putting their hearts at risk? Good read.

I love this series. In the Lane of Fire is a stand alone book, but I recommend reading the entire series. It is a quick, romantic suspense story. Joss Wood keeps the reader engaged until the very end. There is plenty of chemistry between the characters. I highly recommend.

How did I not know about this author?! Samantha Stone was everything he admired in a woman. She was smart and absolutely stunning. He had to remember what was important when he was around her. Protect her life from those who wish to do her harm. His attention was divided he had to remember to focus and that was difficult when she was near. Sam had never met anyone like Jett. His strong warrior attitude and take no prisoner attitude made her feel safe. Would he be by her side to protect her and would she finally let down her guard? The first time I had the opportunity to read this author and it definitely won’t be the last!

In the Line of Fire by Joss Wood
It just got personal…
As the Delta Force legend at Pytheon International, security expert Jett Smith-Jones has run out of leads in his effort to capture criminal mastermind, The Recruiter, the head of a notorious, international human trafficking and recruitment ring. The Recruiter remains one step ahead but when he threatens the principal players at Pytheon, including Dr Samantha Stone, the game is back on. Jett, while valiantly trying to ignore his visceral attraction to the fiery red head, is determined that she have the best protective detail Pytheon can provide. He is the best they have.
PhD Samantha Stone has been tasked to profile The Recruiter’s next move as a consultant of the psychology of criminal behavior. Too bad she can’t discern her attraction to the hard-eyed Delta Force legend. She avoids men who chase danger, but she can’t stop dreaming of falling into Jett’s very muscular arms. Unfortunately for Sam, The Recruiter isn’t the only criminal wanting a piece of her…
As they tighten the net around The Recruiter, the risk to Sam increases. Jett vows he will keep her safe, but who will protect his heart? And will Jett prove to pose the biggest danger to Sam of all?
This is Samantha Stone and Jett Smith-Jones ’s story.
Jett Smith-Jones walked into the lobby of Stone Tower, a two-minute walk from that other famous “tower” on Wall Street and silently whistled his appreciation. Marble floors, bespoke chairs, a coffee bar in the corner of the lobby and expensive, art deco vases holding flowers on both ends of the sleek reception desk.
“When you two are done drooling over each other, this box is heavy and I’m in a hurry.” The redhead—whom he recognized as being Samantha Stone—spoke in a rough growl that skated down his spine. her voice didn’t match her feminine frame or crazy colored hair. The voice was all grown up.
“Good morning, Ms. Stone,” Alex replied in a cool voice that managed to be respectful. “This is Jett Smith-Jones.”
In the Line of Fire by Joss Wood is a 3 star book.

Thank you Netgalley and publishers for an e-book copy of this book.

When I started reading this book, I did not know it was part of a series, this being the 3rd book, however I do not believe that it would've changed my opinion on this book much.

THE CHARACTERS….

Jett was the hunk tasked to making Sam loose her panties, err … head! He is obviously tall, dark and handsome, but more often than not I found his attitude more than lacking. He acted and spoke to Sam like she was an idiot, although she was an expert on her field and I struggled to understand how Sam found his talking hot at all! Initially she was fiery and standing her ground, however she soon dissolved into a mess, seemed unable to do her job (which grated on me greatly!), and accepted his often demeaning attitude as sexy! All the other characters didn’t matter much, they seemed to bend in and I cared for them even less than I cared for the main characters. Some of them even patronised her and treated her like an idiot after an incident at her home. WTF? The only character that I seemed to like, was her friend, the detective lady.

What bothered me the most, was not the fact that the characters were cardboard clichés, it was the fact that they kept on deviating from their profile and behaving out of character. This annoyed me to great lengths. For example, she is supposed to be a hard criminal/profiling psychologist, yet she literally had a meltdown with Jeff because she thought she was ugly because when she was 15 years old had pimples (doesn’t have anymore), freckles, and was tall. Surely, she must’ve seen herself in a mirror ever since. Surely, as a psychologist, she could read attraction in other people’s body language, but no!

THE PLOT…

The plot was weak and not supported much by the characters or the writing. It was predictable and the ending actually made me laugh. The plot seemed to work only to push the characters into each other’s arms and maintain some sort of a tension.

THE WRITING…

I didn’t like the writing, it read very juvenile and overly simplistic; for example:

“The recruiter was super smart, cunning, and his beef with Pytheon was very personal”, “being the observant, super soldier he was”, “made a nose in the back of her throat”, “Jett’s ‘brave girl’ dissolving a little of the ice around her heart”, “he was super reluctant to risk losing someone again”, and so on…

“Super” was used 12 times on its own. So yeah, I did not enjoy the writing.

THE ENJOYMENT…

Initially I enjoyed it, however the inconsistencies, the lack of coherent plot, characters and writing started to diminish my enjoyment, but overall it was ok. It would've been a lot better with some more editing and pulling some of that plot together. The novel felt more like a template, than a story.

Sam is an heiress and it seems that someone has it out for her or maybe a few people they just cant seem to get it figured out. Jett has been working for some time for Pytheon and he will was called in because things just got personal. He knows a few things he needs to protect his heart, his free life style and he needs to keep Sam safe.
This book is full of suspense you will not be disappointed at all in that. There is a lot of strong language, and adult scenes. That being said the author seemed to repeat some of the same information over and over, in those times I found the book dragging. I did enjoy that it kept you guessing and that in the end you really will be a surprised. I have not read any of the other books in the series but it wasn't hard to figure out what was going on, the author did some explaining and it was easy to catch on.

This is the first book by this author that I've read and I was pleasantly surprised. I am definitely going to go back and read the others in this series. The chemistry between the characters was definitely hot. This is a action packed book which will keep you reading till the end. I had to read this book in one sitting, I just couldn't put this book down. I can't wait to read more in this series and by this author in the future.

Highly recommended

In the Line of Fire is an intense, fast paced romance with characters you’ll fall in love with. Jett is as alpha as a man can get, yet he also knows the value of one amazing woman. He’ll do anything to protect Samantha, and eventually to win her to be at his side. They have a battle on their hands on more than one front as Sam is threatened by two madmen. Keeping the woman he’s come to love won’t be easy, but there is no other option for Jett.

Sam is a strong woman, capable in her field yet unwilling to fall for another man who constantly puts his life in danger. When she is threatened by criminals who think nothing of taking a life it is Jett who steps in to protect her. She might have convinced her mind that they have no future, but telling that to her heart is a totally different conversation.

Without going into spoilers I don’t think I can really say much more. I do strongly believe that this is a series that needs to be read in order to get the best understanding of what is happening now. There are threads that flow through the entire series, and while you might not get lost along the way I still feel for the best entertainment value reading them in order is your best bet.

The passion is hot, the action heavy and dangerous. In The Line of Fire will grab your attention and not let go. I’d recommend this story for any Romantic Suspense reader who loves twists and turns in their plots, strong characters and quickly turning pages to see what happens next.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Jett Smith-Jones commands attention. He's a deadly weapon who won't be stopped. After leaving the military, he joined Pytheon Security as an operative. His latest assignment is to protect Samantha Stone. She's both feisty and independent. She doesn't deal well with being told what to do. Her job is her life. She and Jett are both stubborn but the attraction between them is immediate and passionate. I enjoyed their battle of wills. It was impressive. These two characters are larger than life. I liked them and wanted to see them defeat their enemies. This story is filled with non-stop action. The unexpected twists left me speechless. I couldn't put this book down. I'm enjoying this series. The writing of Joss Wood is both exciting and suspenseful.
I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.

Third in Joss Woods’ Pytheon series, In The Line Of Fire is a romantic suspense set in New York. It took me a little while to get into the story but once there I was pretty engrossed. I had a bit of trouble at the end of the story as I couldn’t quite follow the logic that saw the perpetrators brought down, but that could just be me. That aside, I enjoyed this story and look forward to book four in the series.

An action packed story.

With The Recruiter, an international criminal, still at large, Jett Smith-Jones has his hands full. But now, The Recruiter has taken an interest in one of Pytheon International’s own, Samantha “Sam” Stone. It is up to Jett to protect Sam who is a profiler and working on the case of a serial killer. When Sam’s life is also threatened by the killer, Jett has to pull double duty to keep Sam safe.

While hiding from the killers, Sam and Jett give into the attraction they have for each other. Will their new found relationship jeopardize their safety?

This is a fantastic addition to the Pytheon Security series. It is full of action and steamy intimate scenes. The story kept me turning the pages anxious to see the outcome of each situation. If you like romantic suspense, definitely add this book to your reading list. And don’t forget about the first two books in the series. The story of the Recruiter goes through the other books.

I really enjoyed this book eventhough her style of writing is a little different to what I am used to. I will be reading more books by Joss Wood.

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

What an action packed book filled with sizzling romance and nonstop action! The attraction between Jett and Samantha was so very fun to read as they both were trying so hard not to give in to their attraction much less even think about a relationship!

Poor Sam had not one but two crazy people threatening her life and one of them was a total surprise and the other I suspected to be involved but not the mastermind themself.

It was hard to put the book down, and I had to read it straight through and find out who was involved and how Jett and Sam would get to their HEA. I have not read the previous two books in this series but now am intrigued by these characters and want to read more about them!

Joss Wood’s In the Line of Fire is the third book in the Pytheon Security Series. This is book has a tough, no-holds-barred, former military hero and a smart profiler paired together for an action-packed and sizzling romance suspense story.

You jump into this story with the danger and suspense brought out in the first chapter. From there it just continues to build. It has more twists and turns than a mountain road. I was astonished by who the actual villain, or should I say villains, thou I don’t want to give too much away.

The story has an overarching theme that is ended with this story. That doesn’t mean that the series is necessarily finished just that theme. Also, I had read book one in the series but not book two; no problems, any needed background is given in this novel. I enjoyed it on its own.

Fans of Katie Reus, Cynthia Eden and Lynn Raye Harris should check out the Pytheon Security Series, they will want to add it to their list of must reads.

It did not disappoint.

The book has a little over 200 pages and in each chapter, we get sections in Jett’s perspective and a different section in Samantha’s. I commonly hate one of the protagonists in a story but I enjoyed both Jett and Samantha’s character. They are equally smart which I appreciated since there is a popular character arc where someone is always way smarter than his or her counterpart that leads to the other one to be dependent.

It was also refreshing to have a wide variety of sub-characters that has a decent amount of exposure and relevance in the story. I have read a couple of action romance books where the minor characters are just there when it’s suitable for the scene.

Joss Wood’s strength in her writing is her ability to clearly describe the characters movements and she’s done it with only one or two sentences. This is clearly a valuable skill needed when writing an action story. I can picture even the simplest movements of the characters and the action-packed scenes where crystal.

I am still careful about choosing what action-romance books to read. If you’re like me, take my recommendation, this one is a good story. It does not disappoint.

In the Line of Fire by Joss Wood, book three in The Python Security series. Took me awhile to get into the story but I ended up really enjoying the characters, and storyline once I did get into it. It has the right amount of suspense and romance. I look forward to reading more in this series and more by Joss Wood.

Okay

This book had good suspense and unexpected villains but I didn’t feel connected to the characters.

I didn't realize this book was the third in a series; having not read the first two books I was lost. I gave up about 15% of the way through the book, too confused to continue reading. In those first few chapters a lot of characters are in play; characters that are not well introduced and honestly I was confused as to who was who. Perhaps had I read the first two books it would make more sense but for me it didn't.

In The Line Of Fire is an action packed bodyguard romance. Former military bad a$$ Jett Smith-Jones now works for Pytheon International. PhD Samantha Stone is a petite redhead with a temper to match. She is smart and sassy and takes no crap. She also doesn’t want to be attracted to Jett but she is. He knows she is a bad idea but the chemistry is combustible. Sam has not one but two bad guys after her and it is up to Jett to keep her safe.
This is the third in the series but can be read stand alone. The author does a good job of catching you up. This book is packed with hot guys, surprises, action, love and humor.
