Thank you to Net Galley and Tyndale House Publishing for letting me read and review this book.
This story takes place in 1792 in Natchez Trace, MS. Quinn O'Shea is on his way to America to live and work with his older brother, when he meets the three Young sisters on the ship. He is especially attracted to Kiera Young, who is on her way to be married. When they arrive, Kiera finds out she is not really going to be married. Her brother-in-law has sold her to a brutish man who runs a brothel. So the fun and the adventure begins. . .
This is my first book by Pam Hillman and I really enjoyed it. I plan to read more by this author. It was very well written and kept my interest right from the beginning. Highly recommend to all Christian Fiction lovers!

From the opening paragraphs, I was drawn into the story of Quinn O'Shea and Kiera and her sisters. On board ship from Ireland headed to the colonies, Kiera challenges Quinn to keep his 8 year old brother away from her 8 Year old sister. He is intrigued by the beauty and admires her spunk but he is headed to turn his responsibilities for his 2 younger brothers over to his brother Connor in Natchez Trace.

However, both Quinn and Kiera find things don't always end up the way you plan. Kiera, thinks she has been indentured as a wife to a gentleman in Natchez; but instead, she and her sisters are manhandled off to the Blue Heron which turns out to be a brothel where they are expected to prostitute themselves. Worse, her own brother-in-law with her half sister's blessings has sold them to pay off a debt.Quinn and his brother Rory, immediately come to the aid of the sisters but they are no match for the ruffians.

With the aid of some good hearted plantation owners, Quinn returns to rescue the sisters. They are able to spirit the women off but at great cost. One of the rescuers is killed. Now the brothers must take the girls and run for Breeze Hill, where their brother, Conner O'Shea is master. But Conner has a history with Kiera's half sister and almost sends them back to Natchez until Quinn steps in and explains that they can't be sent back into the danger that awaits them there.

The decision is made to let the women stay until Conner can look into how legal their indentured papers are. In the meantime, Quinn, struggles with whether he will be happy leaving his brothers and the girls and seeking his fortune or staying and protecting them from the threat hanging over their heads.

He is angry with Connor for leaving them in Ireland and the responsibilities to Quinn but he finds himself more and more drawn to the kind but spirited, Kiera.

I give this 5 stars and recommend it for your keeper shelf. The novel is part of a series but can stand alone. I received a copy from netgalley for my honest review.

Sometimes life takes an unexpected turn. People we count on disappoint, we might be thrown into positions we never asked for and forced to live feeling as if we're paying for other people's mistakes. Bitterness creeps in, anger and hurt take up every thought.

This is how Quinn O'Shea felt when his older brothers left to live adventures overseas and far from family - at least that's the way he saw it. Imagine his surprise, after years of silence, suddenly receiving the news that he and his younger siblings have payed passages to go to America. Quinn is determined to get on the boat, drop his brothers to Connor's responsibility and go out on his own adventure. But as fate will have it, he ends up as the guardian of one feisty Irish lass and her two sisters.

Keira Young is happy to be away from her older sister and brother-in-law, even if it means marrying a stranger. She dreams of an honest and better life for her younger siblings and believes that her brother-in-law finally gave a considerate thought towards their future, despite putting them on a ship towards a unknown place. However, once they arrive in Natchez, things aren't as she expected and they're indentured to a future worse than what they had back in Ireland. Luckily, she meets people not willing to bend in fear in face of danger.
And so, Quinn and Keira have there lives thrown together as they set towards Breeze Hill.

To be working alongside his oldest brother and to have to post-pone his dreams once more does not sit well with Quinn and he makes it clear at every chance he gets that he's planning to leave. Keira, on the other hand, wonders if she'll ever be able to provide safety and rest for her sisters as she finds out Breeze Hill belongs to the last person who wants any connection with them.

As they go through a season with hot emotions running, much to heal from and life to ponder about, a kinship forms and dreams are threaten to be shaken once more. To learn how to be still and surrender might be one of the most difficult tasks to accomplish, but, in face of uncertainty and changes, one might also find that if you have love (and I mean more than just the romantic kind), you might find strength to go through anything, to serve wholeheartedly amidst trouble. And this might be the most precious dream worth fighting for, the greatest adventure to live.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one and it was lovely to catch up with dear characters. Very much looking forward to the next installment.

Exciting, on the edge of your seat finish from the second in Pam Hillman's 'Natchez Trace' series. I have to be honest. I struggled a bit with the first book, but I imagine there's lots of ground work to be laid with a series opener. By now we are familiar with the people of the Breeze Hill plantation, the lay of the land - the seafaring city of Natchez and the dangerous road called the Trace. Connors brothers were sent for towards the end of book 1, and this story begins with their arrival in Natchez. 3 more O'Shea brothers, and the 3 Young sisters, all arriving from Ireland on the same boat and they share a family connection sure to cause trouble for Connor. They are barely into their arrival at the docks when Kiera realizes that, thanks to her sister & brother in law selling them off to the evil Pierre La Bonne, her future is not what she had in mind. Pretty much the kingpin of Natchez under the hill, you will remember Pierre from the first book. Quinn just wants to find Connor and leave his younger brothers in his care, in order to finally chase his dreams - but his honor won't let him abandon the 3 sisters, who find themselves at the mercy of the brothel owner Pierre.

I really enjoyed the way the new additions to Breeze Hill embellish and add to the plantation. Both Kiera & Quinn find a place for their skill set. If you are a fan of Julie Bischoff you will love this story. It reminded me very much of the dynamic between the brothers in Sons of Blackbird Mountain. This is very much a story of the hard work it took to make a life in the early days of the colonies, working the land - taking care of each other, and especially the vast differences between honest & honorable people, and the dark and dangerous kind. The supporting characters created a depth to the plot, fantastic!

Beautiful cover, and rich descriptions of Magnolia Glen, and the surrounding areas, made this book a very visual read. I hadn't thought I would read another Pam Hillman about the Trace, but I'm very glad that I did.

Thanks to Netgalley & Tyndale for the eARC. This is my honest review.

Exhilarating. Intense. Heart-racing. And utterly romantic, describes new-to-me author, Pam Hillman's latest novel, 'The Road to Magnolia Glen'. Ms. Hillman can definitely write a story with all the elements that make for a great novel...including a plot that will keep the reader frantically turning the pages until the climactic conclusion.

Because the main characters return from the 1st book in the series, I felt as though our lovely heroine, Kiera Young, just didn't get equal billing. She was a beautiful, kind-hearted heroine indeed, but I would've loved getting better acquainted with her. No worries if you haven't read book one because the author does a great job of recapping the story. Quinn O'Shea is the epitome of your perfect hero...gallant, tough, swoonworthy, and a great kisser. I mean THAT was obvious! lol

Hillman's writing was a delightful surprise to me and I'm looking forward to reading more of her work.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and Tyndale House Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review.

This is another enjoyable story by Pam Hillman. She takes us back to Natchez Trace and Breeze Hill. This time we get to know Connor O’Shea’s younger brother, Quinn. Maybe not quite as fiery as his brother but pretty close. I thoroughly enjoyed Kiera Young in the story and felt bad for her plight.

I’m not sure this story is as intense as the first book, but we do see several of our “friends” from book one. There was a secondary story that wove nicely into the main story giving it more depth. The story brought many emotions for me, including sadness for one of the secondary characters. The author gives us characters that we can easily relate with and I saw myself more than once.

The author did receive criticism in the first book regarding Connor’s language and specifically the times he took the Lord’s name in vain. The author definitely took that criticism to heart and I do not believe you will find any offensive language in this story.

Although this is a book two, the author does a great job of giving enough background that you wouldn’t feel lost if you’ve not read the first book.

Another great read in this second book of Hillman’s Natchez Trace novels. This book opens up on a ship sailing to America from Ireland. We find the main characters aboard, Quinn O’Shea and his two younger brothers who are to join their elder brother, Conner {from the first book } in America. Kiera Young sailing to marry a man her brother in law has arranged, along with her two younger sisters. Sparks fly when the uppity Kiera meets Quinn and demands he keep his younger brother away from her sister. But things quickly change when they reach their destination. Things are nothing like it was supposed to be…….there is so much excitement in this romantic historical novel to keep you turning the pages to see how it will all end. Hillman has written another great read filled with the joys and sorrows of a time in the history of early Natchez in the late 1700’s. I thoroughly enjoyed The Road to Magnolia Glen …………. I received a complimentary advanced reader copy from the author and was under no obligation to leave a favorable review.

This historical romance takes place in the 1790s when indentured servants headed for America. These servants worked for seven years before becoming free in exchange for paid passage from Europe to America (slave trading was going on at the same time). Our story follows an Irish family of sisters, Kiera, Amelia, and Megan, who travel to America with the understanding that the eldest of the three is to marry upon arrival. Yet all is not what it appears to be.
I found myself drawn to Keira’s quiet strength, humility, and kindness. She wasn’t one of those characters that has something to prove and defied the social etiquettes of the day. She was truly taken advantage of but did the best she could under the circumstances, and didn’t harbor bitterness over what had happened.
Quinn is an honorable hero though he was thrown into circumstances beyond his control. He didn’t want to be where he was but his sense of duty, loyalty to family, and integrity kept him on the path where he was headed. I liked him very much.
This is the second novel in the Natchez Trace series, and the only one I have read so far. There is a lot of backstory that is woven throughout this second novel which helps to understand some of what is going on. The story is sufficient itself to read without having to read the previous novel. There are a lot of characters introduced in the first few chapters. So many that I lost track of them until well into the first half of the book. I’m sure if the first book is read the dynamics between characters would be better understood, and the roles of each of the characters more clearly defined.
There’s a nice balance between romance and suspense, not too heavy on either aspect. I appreciated the subtle details put into the descriptions of the smithy, the work of a blacksmith, and how essential he would have been in those days. Not too preachy either.
It’s an enjoyable read.

In this second installment of the Natchez Trace series, we meet younger brother Quinn O’Shea as he heads to America from Ireland. Just as his older brother Conner was ready to indenture himself in the first book, Quinn is ready to shuck the chains of responsibility to see the world in the second. Feelings between the two are fiery and Quinn blames Connor for many things. Throw in a pretty lass he meets on board in the form of Kiera Young along with her younger sisters, and you’ll really see Irish tempers fly! She quickly changes her tune once she learns of the sinister plot her brother-in-law had for her all along when she embarks on land. This certainly has all the makings of a story the reader will not quickly abandon with a much anticipated happily-ever-after ending! It made me stay up way too late devouring each page faster than the last to finish in a mere twenty-four hours. Definitely anticipating the next one since there’s three more O’Shea brothers we need to get to know.

P.S. It was one of my favorite endings to date. Just goes to show you the lengths a man in love will go for his forever lass. Blissful sigh!

THE ROAD TO MAGNOLIA GLEN by PAM HILLMAN is the first book in her Natchez Trace series. The story takes place in 1792 in Natchez Trace, Mississippi. It is a really lovely read with plenty of romance, suspense, and good Christian content. There is a good diversity of characters, and one really gets the idea of what life was like in those days.
Quinn O'Shea, having arrived in America by ship from Ireland with his two younger brothers, is only too keen to get rid of all responsibility by leaving them with his older brother, Connor, while he travels the world, until he rushes in to help Kiera Young and her two sisters, who have been sold to a brothel owner by their brother in law. He is not keen to give up his freedom and we wonder if he will eventually change his plans and settle down.
The story looks at forgiveness, responsibility and the kind of love that lays down its life for another. It is rough country, full of villains, where greed and lust are rife. This is contrasted with the overall peacefulness and hard work at Breeze Hill plantation.
I was given a free book by Tyndale House Publishers from NetGalley. The opinions in this review are completely my own.
