This was a fun twist on a story and world we are now very familiar with! A great addition! Also can we just talk about that cover? It's swoon worthy. I love the tail on every cover SO MUCH. While I think that Bauer's spin-off about their son is pretty good, the original series is by far my favorite!

A short read that is a really enjoyable introduction to the series.
It gives a good background into the characters and builds the world wonderfully.

I received this eARC novel from NetGalley. This is my honest review.

Lincoln, High Prince, is having a rough go at things lately. He has to leave his homeland to stay in Purgatory, because an angel requires them to. Then he has to be around demons daily, which he usually kills them - so his self restraint is being tested. He has to deal with Aldred's incompetence of leading his army, because eventually he will have all of his soldiers killed with his terrible calls. Lincoln has a plan to fix that, but it could end very badly. And now he's obsessing over a quasi demon who is keeping the doxies out of his horse stable. Out of all of this, the girl is what is on his mind over and over again. Which is silly, since Lincoln wouldn't be caught dead being attracted to a demon, right?

Life for Lincoln has always been tense - with being in line to be the next King - but right now, he's just trying to live minute by minute and figure out what is the right choice in every event.

This was a great novella! I actually read this after Angelbound because I knew it was written after the first book, and I wanted to get a feel of the world Christina Bauer created before going into a short story about a main character. And I'm so glad I did, because it gives me a whole different perspective of Lincoln! I can't believe how much he thought of Myla before he even met her! It makes every conversation between them so much better in Angelbound!

Lincoln takes on a lot of responsibility, and I can't believe what happened between him and the Accra tribe - Amazing! He is one stubborn and stern headed person, and I now know that him and Myla belong with each other.

Plus I loved being able to see him with his parents - it gives a lot of perspective to their relationship as son/parents and as husband/wife. You can tell that his mother wears the pants in their relationship :)

I'm so glad this story was created and the reader got a chance to dive into Lincoln's head :) I can't wait for the rest of the series that I'm about to dive into!

Review can be found at https://smadasbooksmack.blogspot.com/

Lincoln will do his duty to his people and marry for alliances not the silly concept of love, but before he can focus on making that contract, he first must stop the bane of his existence, Lord Aldred, who is leading his men to their doom in his need to seek out glory. Lincoln needs to figure out a way to stop it without causing his own execution.

Lincoln is so dreamy...and competent, deadly, rational, and full of scheming. I knew I liked that guy, but it was so great being inside his head and seeing how he thinks and plots. He really is the best leader that the Thrax could have ever asked for and I loved how he manipulated everything just the way he wanted it- and his fighting skills are top notch (which is what you are looking for in a romantic partner, right?). Oh, and side note, his dad seriously has always been a total douche bag ( I had strong violent urges towards him and the Earl).

Duty Bound only (yes, scoff away with my only- Christina usually gets 5 stars from me as a general rule since I love her stories) anyway, this got 4.5 stars since there was not nearly enough Myla here. I heart her and her spunk, humor, determination and overall badass-ness and would have loved to see just a few more snippets of her demon hunting. Ooo, a Myla-Lincoln interaction from Lincoln's point of view would have been absolutely perfect (I am holding out hope for the whole Angelbound from Lincoln's view)! And yes, I know this was Lincoln's prequel story, and boy what a story it was, but I will always hold out for more Myla.

It was interesting to read this prequel novella after having read books 1-5 in the series, to go back to before everything else happened and start all over again. I am glad that I got the opportunity to see this snippet before Angelbound and suggest Angelbound be read first just so you can get a feel for the world and the mysterious beauty Lincoln spots in the trees. I am so ready for the next book of Myla and Lincoln mischief.

I have enjoyed this series and this prequel from Lincoln's point of view is a good addition. If you haven't read the others, this book will get you hooked.

I wanted to like this story but the story was somewhat confusing, Although its a pre story to a series. I will not be read this series. I wanted to life the story but it was very confusing an I could not get into this book. this book needed a lot of editing.

I loved this look through Lincoln's eyes. It is a short novella but so great. He is duty bound to do what is right for the thrax. He is also compelled to because he is a good guy. He is kind and loving to his mother. He respects his father, though he is unhappy with how he handles some things. Then there is the intrigue when he sees the 'demon girl'.

I have grown to love these characters through the series and seeing them in a new way just makes it better. I still dislike Aldred and maybe more now seeing how horrid he was from the start. It was fun to see how indifferent Lincoln really was to his 'future bride' and then to be so enamored with Myla just on sight. I loved it.

It was a 5/5 for me. I would love to see the whole series from his perspective.

Thank you to the author/publisher for the review copy of this book. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.

This series is one of my guilty pleasures, and the chance to return to it was too good to pass up. Normally I'm not one for rehashing books from another character's perspective, but I feel like Duty Bound does it right- we got much more insight into the events of book one, and seeing deeper inside Lincoln's head was very enjoyable. These books are a lot of fun, and my top choice for when I want a break for the more over wrought, drama and angst filled YA fantasy books I read normally. I find this series light, fun, fast paced and clever, and refreshing in that it doesn't take itself too seriously. I also appreciate the quick and regular release schedule this author maintains. If you enjoy The Mortal Instruments, or Buffy the Vampire Slayer, definitely give this series a go, it's like s'mores for your brain!

*Thoughts*

Duty Bound, by Christina Bauer, is the prequel to her Angelbound Originals series. This prequel features 18-year old Lincoln Vidar Osric Aquilus, High Prince of the Thrax and a Demon Hunter of some renown. This story takes place in the months before Angelbound where readers will meet Myla Lewis. Thrax normally live underground, but in this story, Lincoln's family is living in Purgatory. While Myla makes brief appearances, this story really is about Lincoln's struggles with his impending marriage to Lord Aldred's daughter, and his struggle to find a way to bring down the pig headed Lord who is doing more harm than good. This is my first reading of any of the authors novel, but I do want to continue with Angelbound since we all know that Myla is the one who is something unique and different, and supposedly untouchable because of rules between Demon Hungers and Quasi-Demons. Alas, in case you missed it, Purgatory is a place ruled by Ghouls. They are all extraordinary tall, and wear long black robes. One of the Ghouls is named Walker, and if you've read Angelbound, I am sure you know who he is.

Not my cup of tea. I like BDSM stories but didn't enjoy this one. I really didn't like any of the characters which would be necessary for me to forgive so many hot buttons for me.

Intriguing new paranormal romance, this demon world feels a bit like Buffy the Vampire slayer vibe which I enjoy. The reader is quickly thrown into a world where there are slayers of demons. With a bit of political intrigue, Lincoln is the heir apparent who will be committing to a royal wedding of convenience.

This tale is promising as the reader learns about an aristocratic world where Thrax are demon fighters. And it is a kingdom with issues that Lincoln does not fully understand. There is some confusion for me with Lincoln being so young, yet deemed as not so young. This series has all the things I like to read about: an evil villain, blackmail, a mysterious love interest and a protagonist who wants to protect his people. Lincoln is an idealist and it will be fun to see how he grows. More specifically it will be interesting to see if this series is written in a progressive manner.

There are a couple of hooks in this story which makes me want to read on. What is going on with Lincoln's father? Will Lincoln really get married to his betrothed? And why are the females not fighting or being trained to be warriors anymore? This teaser prequel is tightly written and piques my interest. Recommended to paranormal romance readers who enjoy sexy demon fighting slayers.

For a prequel novella, this was actually quite satisfying. It was good and entertaining enough that I'm looking forward to reading the Angelbound series. The books have such high ratings on Goodreads I have a feeling it's gonna be great! *fingers crossed*

Duty Bound is a SciFi kind of book - not really sure hoe it fits in with the Christian genre other than he fights demons and falls in love with a half human and half demon. He was raised to kill demons and their in in lies the conundrum, but basically that is about it. In a nutshell - and he is a Prince bequeathed to be married to someone he will never love who he can never let know what he does which make it somewhat a pickle - since he is in love with the demon girl.....phew wow poor guy.

Usually I would prefer the heroine's pov or a mix pov between the h and H, but this is Angelbound Origins we're talking about. And we all know how obsessed I am with Myla and Lincoln. We all heard Myla's pov so why not peek into Lincoln's right?

Nope. I was so prepared for all the paranormal goodness but unfortunately all I got is a repetition of Angelbound's prologue. With a tiny bit of extra thoughts on his arranged marriage and.... family or Thrax stuff... Despite it being told in Lincoln's pov It doesn't seem to intrigue me enough to give it a 4 star.

Still enjoyable and would recommend to read as a part of the series but I personally wouldn't re-read it.

Dutybound is a prequel Novella to the Angelbound series, which I haven't had a chance to read yet.

So despite the fact that I knew nothing about this story, the Novella proved to be an absolutely entertaining read.

My favorite thing is that none of it was confusing in the slightest. At times, when I read a prequel to a book, it has some references to the original book one which makes it confusing for the people who haven't read the book yet.

Thankfully, that didn't happen here.

I liked Lincoln, but my favorite character was the Earliest of Striga. Though he doesn't have much of a role in this novella, I am pretty sure he'll play a major role in Angelbound.

All in all, Dutybound was a fun, short read and I'm looking forward to reading the book one. After all, who doesn't love a badass warrior heroine?

Hello happy readers! So a new release this week that I snagged a copy of early Duty Bound (Angelbound Origins # 0.5) by Christina Bauer from NetGalley is out as of this week! So this is a prequel novella so it is an extra fast read. Seriously I sat and read it in one sitting as soon as I downloaded it. I've loved everything in this world and was happy to go back to the beginning. I think it can be enjoyed as a first book (as it is story wise) or as an added bit of backstory for fans of the series as is.

Rating: 5 Stars

So as many of you know I love the Angelbound series by Christina Bauer. Both the Origins and Offspring books. I adore this world that has been created and I love the characters in them and how fast they read. So when I found out there was going to be a prequel novella from Lincoln’s POV I was on board. First more books! Second…Lincoln’s POV!!! So this is what it is, the story of from Lincoln from his time in Purgatory prior to the official meeting with Myla.

This is a fast read. Not only is it novella length but it also follows the suit of all the other books in the series keeping pace with action and intrigue. I loved getting to see things from inside Lincolns head. He had a very specific way of seeing things and I can only imagine how that changed even further as he opened himself up to more. His views on Purgatory and marriage in general caught me off guard. The idea of him not wanting to marry for love and never expecting to find love blew me away knowing the love and relationship he ends up with. I totally get it though as it plays out and I really enjoyed seeing this piece of him. Plus his first reaction to Myla, before ever meeting her was priceless. I also loved seeing his and Walker’s relationship having heard of it before but never seeing them one on one.

So this was fast and quick but totally worth the read. I highly recommend it to any Angelbound fan! It’s a great insight into our favorite Thrax prince!

Until next time…

I received a free copy for an honest review

Christina Bauer had blessed us, people! I know that she isn't one of the authors that believe in "just leave it at that", looking at how she repeatedly gifted us with more and more prequels, sequels, and stories of our beloved baby Lincoln our savage queen Myla.

One thing (if I remembered right, I've mentioned before) I loved the most about Bauer's books is the tone. Bauer had this distinct attitude when it comes to writing her narrations, which includes some of the best sarcasm, savageness, and badassness that I have ever seen in any book ever. In fact, if you give me a Bauer book, didn't let me know the title or the author or anything about it, and just let me try and guess who the author is, chances I I really would think Bauer as a possibility in my head. That's how distinctive her narrations are.

This book is no exception. This book, by writing from Lincoln's perspectives, proved how Lincoln has just as much brains, sass, and fighting skills as Myla (if we didn't already suspect that before). It was just a novella, and a prequel. It was simply a treat for us to get more of them, that I most definitely enjoyed a lot.

I really liked how Bauer managed to make this book so interesting for me, despite its short length. I especially liked how this book taught me so much about their world's demonology on Class A, B, E, F demons, etc. The actions scenes were excellent quality and did give me some adrenaline when reading, all these stuff and more just made me have so much fun reading it.

I really do suggest people who have already read the Angelbound series, you'll enjoy this so much because we get more Lincoln (and Myla, kind of). But even if you didn't read the series...I actually do think that if you read this book before you start, it can help get you pumping and excited for the other ones because this book can really show you what you're going to receive.

Although there isn't a great deal of new insight to be found here, it does help round out the story, and I liked reading Lincoln's POV. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Goodreads Synopsis:
By popular demand! A prequel novella to the best-selling Angebound, told from Prince Lincoln's point of view!

As the High Prince of the demon-fighting thrax, Lincoln knows he must marry for political gain. Not that he minds. For all of his eighteen years, Lincoln’s been bound to his duty. Fighting demons is his life, and he’s never given romance a second thought. Instead, the High Prince lives for the days when he leaves his hidden realm to fight demons on Earth.

Then, everything changes.

Lincoln and his nobles become forced to visit Purgatory, the home of quasi-demons (who are mostly human with a bit of demonic DNA). Here Lincoln spies Myla Lewis, a lady warrior who enflames his heart, ignites his interest, and inspires his respect. Trouble is, Myla’s also a quasi. By thrax law, Lincoln must kill anything demonic—not date them. For the first time in his life, Lincoln wonders if he’ll follow his duty…or heed the demands of his heart.

My Review:
Yes I'm reading another installment of the Angelbound series, and yes I like the cover. This one, however, is a little different than the others. This is a prequel, set before the first book. The cover is really pretty, and it fits well with the other books in the series. Yet another story about Lincoln and Myla, and I'm not disappointed by it. They've been the same characters we know and love through the story, and that doesn't change in this book.

A little different than the others, this book is from the point of view of Lincoln, the High Prince of the Thrax, otherwise known as demon hunters. It begins with him stating how many demons he's killed to date, one thousand four hundred and thirty-seven, but he has troubles connecting with his mother. Especially when she's interrogating him about Adair, from the Acca house. Even worse, Adair's father is killing off his own army just to spite Lincoln. To top it all off he can't stop thinking about a certain quasi-demon that he saw.

I really enjoyed this book and it was a nice addition to the series. I liked seeing things from Lincolns point of view, and getting to know Walker better too. Definitely check it out if you get the chance.
