I was so antsy to get my hands on this book not only for the cover, but for the story itself and I am so glad I got to read it through netgalley! I have grown to love split POV because i know at some point the two are going to meet and it's going to be awesome. I got a feel of both FIrefly and The Lunar Chronicles in this book, both of which I love so the reviews were not lying.

I have been loving YA sci-fi and this book is perfect for a light hearted fan. I enjoyed the characterisation with the dual perspective allowing a good understanding of motives and plot. The story flowed with a hint of fairy tale but completely rewritten and pacy. What could have been strung out to a trilogy made a good standalone while leaving the door open for future adventures.

I am still blown away by this book as I write this review. This was just phenomenal!

Our Dark Stars tells the story of Princess Talia Starchaser, who on her eighteenth's birthday will confirm her position as the heir to the throne and to her Dynasty, but must also secure her betrothal to Prince Cassian, who she has never met. Cassian is a cruel person, and demands Talia kills her best friend, a companion mock named Ailat who she has known since birth, in front of an expecting crowd. In a fraction of second, Talia must decide what to do, with enormous consequences to her choice. A hundred years later, Mock Captain Will Perrault and his mock crew discover an object floating through space, and when Talia emerges from the container, she is now in their hands.

This is a fast-paced story full of adventure, space chasing, , a fierce Princess who must confront her past if she wants to bring peace between mocks and humans, a charming half-human half-mock Captain and a crew full of personality. I couldn't stop turning pages and finished this book in an afternoon, holding my breath during the last chapters.

This book is somewhere between Young Adult and New Adult, with the main characters being between 18 and early 20s. So maybe not entirely appropriate for younger teens, but it's hardly very steamy.

Our Dark Stars was just so good, the way I always have in my mind when I think space adventure with a bit of romance, you know? Such great fun to read.

Trigger Warnings: mentions of torture and rape (not explicit).

Our Dark Stars was really a good fast-paced Sci-Fi! Obviously, it is not the book of the year but I enjoyed it anyway! We have spaaace, sassy characters, a bit of romance (even if it could have been developed and deepened better), action and plot twists! It has a conclusion (since it's a stand-alone) but if the authors want, they could write a sequel because there are some things left open. All in all, if you adore YA Sci-Fi, you don't want to miss this one!

What a fun and interesting read. Very sci-fi, somewhat YA, but fascinating. A vast human ruled dynasty is about to go down to the enemy in revolt, who are not human. One member of the ruling family escapes but is missing for one hundred years. When she reappears everything has changed and the galaxy is confusing. The roles of humans and non-humans have been reversed. So, one group still represses and enslave the other, predictably. Can Talia live to give the human rebels hope? Read and see.

Only one plot turn seemed implausible to me, or perhaps just not smooth enough. But it's all pretty exciting, with plenty of new things to learn about all the primary characters, and, of course, space ships, and fights of all sorts. Just the kind of science fiction I enjoy.

Adults and young adults who like science fiction will enjoy this book.

I received a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

4/5 stars

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thanks!

I liked Our dark stars from the beginning. It was interesting and I would finish it in one sitting if I had enough time. With some books you struggle to keep reading, with other you lost track of time. It was the latter with with this book :).

Most of the twists were predictable but I still enjoyed the story. I only wish there was more romance. After everything they survived they deserved more time together, but maybe there will be a sequel...? it’s possible but the book is good as a stand-alone too.

Shiny 4 stars.

A lost kingdom, a hunted princess, androids, AIs, and killers. Princess Talia is lost in time and space. She is supposed to be dead, dead as her people, dead as her kingdom and dead as her family. Adrift in the universe, when she is finally saved, nobody knows who she is and the new galaxy is compleatly changed. Androids have taken over and humans are now their slaves, if they were even left alive. Talia has to fix this, she has to save her people and fix her mistake that launched it all. Intermixed with romance and adventure, Our Dark Stars tells a story that traverses time and the universe.
From the get go, the story jumps from the past to the present fairly frequently. It was a little jarring, making some parts of the story feel more like fluff to balance the past and present parts then anything. I found Talia to be an okay main character. She was not very unique, but she was in no way a badly written character. Story wise, the romance was pretty weak and the inter-character relations were also just meh. Nothing terrible, but nothing great either. I also noticed that there were many exciting ways the story could have gone that would have been mind blowing and exciting, but it ended up being a mostly predictable plot. That aside though, it was still pretty fun to read, and because of that, I give Our Dark Stars FOUR OUT OF FIVE STARS!!!

I've never encountered book by Audrey Grey or Krystal Wade before so I had no idea what to expect. I'll be honest - I was lured mostly by stunning cover of this book at first. I haven't read premise before starting this book so it was a big surprise for me. Oh yes, it was.

This book is told by two POVs in two different times (at first). First Princess Talia, human, who is successor to her father's space imperium. She's rich, beautiful and adored. It might look she has it all... until tragedy happens. Second, Will Perrault, who's not only half mock, but also captain of spaceship. Scavenger, loser to his family... Talia lives in the time where humans rule and mocks (artificial intelligence) obey. Will lives 100 years in the future and many changes - humans are now enslaved and mocks rule. What happens when Princess sleeps and wakes to this era? Hunter becomes hunted?

First of all, I adore sci-fi YA books, especially when there is a good world building. I was pleasantly surprised. Both authors were able to create a unique world with two different "races". They show good example how much racial differences are important and what "racism" does to people. Story reminded me of R.U.R., classic by Czech writer Karel Čapek (story about uprising of robots against human race). The story is very fast paced and action packed. It also focuses a lot on the characters. Authors introduce variety of different characters (even LGBT+ one). Romance link is there, but only lightly - story focuses more on plot and racial problems.

I liked this book in many ways. First of all - plot. I might have guessed the main antagonist somewhere in the half of book, but I didn't mind at all. I still enjoyed it. It was full of action, likable characters and spaceships. And hot captain. Read it in a day. I do recommend!

Yes, this is another space book! I'm kinda really just crazy for space books right now. (Haha) This crazy space story is a page-turner. I always wanted to know what would happen next. The world building is my favorite part of this book, the writing just paints this world with starts and action scenes.

Leo is my favorite characters. I enjoyed the story more whenever he was in the scenes. I don't know why he just lightings the story.

This story is great. I enjoyed the 'space life'. I do wish there was a little more about the technology used in this world. There is a little bit of love that never overpowered the story.

The push and pull between humans and mocks is what makes this book. The line between humans and mocks. And how the roles switch throughout the story makes it an interesting read. The main message I get from this read is that friendship and love will and can happen wherever, that it doesn't matter your skin or race.

If Empress of a Thousand Skies by Rhoda Belleza and Amid Stars and Darkness by Chani Lynn Feener had a baby it would be something like Our Dark Stars.

I hope there is going to be a book two!

This was a fun Sleeping Beauty in space story. It's a fairly quick read. There was plenty of information to make a good guess as to a few big reveals in the story. The romance is nicely done and develops a bit, so no insta-love.

I really liked that the story was told from the two points of views of the main characters, which allowed me to understand more about what was going on in the character's thoughts than they knew about each other. I also liked how Talia and Will's stories mirrored each other in some ways. Everything that they did made sense based on their experiences and personalities.

I thought there were a few really nice touches, such as having Talia's junior companion's name be the reverse of Talia's. A few things threw me off. The mocks sometimes seemed expressionless and at other times they seemed as though they couldn't control their reactions. Also, this is probably just me, but every time I read the word "mock" it threw me out of the story a little bit, especially when talking about things like a crowd that "had formed an impenetrable mock barrier." I almost wish there had been another word to describe the mechanical people.

The world-building was good. There were a few places where I would have liked some more detail (for example, do mock children jump from body to body every few years, or do they have to stay children for a long time?), but the settings were easy to visualize. Also, I was a little foggy on how sentience spread through the mocks. Were they always that way and simply hiding it, or was there a transformation somewhere along the line? I didn't need that information, but it would have rounded out the story a bit more for me.

It looks as though this was written as a stand alone story. It has a good feeling of closure to it. At the same time, I could see where the story could be expanded if the authors chose to do so.

If you liked Invictus or Cinder, then this book is definitely for you!

A rag tag crew aboard a spaceship finds a strange item floating in space that could be captain Will Perrault's ticket back into the queens good graces.

There is action immediately and it never really lets up, which I truly enjoyed. Additionally the dual perspective of Talia and Will transitioned smoothly and I was never confused about who's perspective I was reading from.

I truly hope that there is a second book that will be released, because this world is definitely one worth diving more into and seeing how things play out for the characters.

Talia is a Starchaser. Eldest sibling in an ailing dynasty her 18th birthday should be a time to celebrate, however, it marks her shift in adulthood and sovereign in waiting. Her first task? She must accept a betrothal to the cruel Cassius, a lesser match but from a planet rich with Ore. Up until this time Talia has had a steadfast companion to share her dream, not a human but a "mock." a humanoid droid named Ailat. When Cassius forces her to chose between saving her family and saving her best friend, Talia makes the only choice she believes she can. Her choice is far reaching and through a series of events Talia finds herself in an escape pod, floating into space.

100 years later, Will Perrault and his rag tag crew of misfits are on the hunt for salvage and after discovering Talia's pod they suddenly discover that they are targets with some very high profile hunters on their tail. A lot has changed since that fateful night for Talia and the tables have turned completely as mock became master and human became slave. As Talia awakes she cannot even begin to comprehend what has happened. As the truth of both the length of time Talia has been in stasis and the uprising of the mocks unfolds before her, Talia must fight to put right the wrongs of that terrible night.

Our Dark Stars is a gorgeous read, from the beautiful cover design to the words themselves. Talia is a wonderful character, full of both strength and vulnerability, she is able to hold her own and put aside her fears and grief to put right her wrongs. The chapters covering the fateful night 100 years prior are full of real heart pounding and also heartbreaking moments as Talia must choose between loyalty to her family and loyalty to her friend. Will's crew are a great bunch of characters, if you were a fan of the show Firefly you will find a lot to love with them as they bring humour to the darker sides of this story

Whilst I saw the reveal coming a mile off, it didn't spoil the enjoyment of the moment, which was terrifying in the face of how Talia came to be in that position. Our Dark Stars has some truly epic moments from space battles to strip clubs, but it is also a story about friendship, betrayal and redemption and how hope can be found in the most unlikely of places.

I really loved this book, I read it in 2 sittings and struggled to put it down. It's such an easy read, page after page just flow together - i'm glad the story was rounded off well but i'm also intrigued that there could be more of these characters story to come.
