I really enjoyed the other 2 books in this series and was excited for a third one. I was a little worried when I found out it followed Josh from book 2 though. He wasn’t exactly the most likable character to ever exist. But, I will admit, I was very pleasantly surprised. I came to love Josh. This book was also different because you got dual POVs unlike the others. So you knew what both characters were thinking. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about it, but I ended up loving it too. As a whole series I was super surprised at the depth in these book considering their topics. I’m finishing myself missing these books and wishing there was a fourth one in the series.

i really liked quinn anderson's hot line and deeply disliked her the other five percent, so i hesitated a lot before choosing to request this book on netgalley. in the end, cam boy sits between the two other works by her i read before, not as good as one & not as bad as the other.

cam boy is a fun story. the secondary characters are great & interesting, but the main couple lacks chemistry and an actual developed romantic relationship. sexual attraction does not a romance make, at least for me, so i never managed to truly simpathize with both main characters.

i liked the ending well enough, though, and i really enjoy how anderson doesn't shy away from keeping her characters true to themselves. it's pretty common to see characters in the sex industry retire/give up on it for the sake of their relationship and it's nice to see something different here.

I was struggling a bit with this book. The first two books in this series I felt were kinda light. This book was a little too serious.

With the whole HIV scare. I’m all for realistic things happening. But, I wish that would have been said in the synopsis. I even reread the synopsis to see if I missed anything. Also too... other things I feel carried on over from book 2 (Action) in this series.

The internal dialogue was in issue for me in that book. And I feel carried on over into this book. I also wasn’t feeling Colette in this book either.

I didn’t enjoy Josh’s first time in front of the camera. I thought it was extremely cold. Yes, I know this book is trying to keep it real. But, I wanted a little fantasy in it to. I was feeling Mike in the beginning.... but after that scene.... he came off as a jerk to me.

As I read on... I just wasn’t falling in love with this book. It was just ok. The sex between them was hot. But... idk. I just wasn’t feeling them as a couple. It felt more business like between them.

I really enjoyed this one, it made a nice change to read a realistic portrayal of the porn industry in a romance, to see that it wasn't all fun and games, but long hours and at times not all that enjoyable. Then you have the chemistry between John and Mike which was palpable and Josh's big mouth causing awkward conversations. I would have liked to see how the author would have written Mike as the bottom, but aside from that, this was a lot better than I expected.

Mike and Josh meet when Josh goes to an interview at Murmur Inc. to audition as one of Murmur’s newest porn stars. Struggling to make ends meet he sees this as the solution to all his money woes. Will this solve Josh’s issues or turn out to be a lot more than he bargained for?

I have absolutely loved this series and Quinn Anderson is quickly becoming one of my go to authors, but unfortunately, this story wasn’t as good as the others in the series for me. I loved Mike and Josh, and together they were amazing. The chemistry between them was electric, but I wanted more page time with them as a couple. More getting to know each other time. I wish there had been more interaction between them.

The story was well-written and an easy read. Not only did I love Josh and Mike, but the story had some interesting secondary characters, some I’m hoping to see more of in the future. Although not my favorite in the series, which can be read as standalones, it was still an enjoyable and recommendable read!

Cam Boy is a delightful read. The story is well-paced, and the numerous surprises were truly that. The relationship between Mike and Josh proceeded well, even leaving room for wondering if it would last. I liked reading the porn to an extent, but this novel might have been a bit better if there were less of it. That's because the author had a good story to run with. But porn can be fun under the right circumstances!
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.

If you look up the words "naive", "reckless", and "overly confident" in the dictionary, you might find Josh Clemmons' picture there.

If you've read the previous books in this series, you might remember Josh as the guy who works with Pete at the coffee shop. Additionally, you might recall that Pete works for Murmur Inc, a company that makes pornographic movies, but also provides Phone Sex Operators, and apparently, on-camera live action.

Josh, stuck in a dead-end, low-wage job, partly because college just wasn't for him, looks for more excitement and more dough. Thus he's been looking online at Murmur Inc. for open audition calls, and wouldn't you know, his luck is about to change.

Hastily cobbling together a resume, he's so confident that he's perfect for porn and will be chosen to perform that he. Quits. His. Job. before he even has an interview lined up. Overly confident? Reckless? You betcha.

Also naive. So very naive, because he thinks if Pete can be a porn star, so can he. Like, surely, anyone can be in porn, right? Lots of sex and you get paid? Why wouldn't everyone do this, amirite? How hard could it be?

Right.

Josh's dreams of being the next AVN winner are dashed quickly when he realizes after his first scene he's not quite cut out for that kind of career.

Mike Harwood, on the other hand, has been an adult film entertainer for quite some time. Filming both straight and gay movies, he's so used to faking attraction that he's no longer sure what's real and what isn't. I could tell that he was approaching burnout, but he wasn't quite there yet.

Josh and Mike meet on set for Josh's first and last scene, after which Josh crawls back to the coffeeshop and begs for his job back. Which he does, lucky him. Neither can get the encounter out of their mind, but Josh isn't going to make any movies, and Mike is busy filming the next scene. Josh also gets even more lucky when Colette, the owner of Murmur Inc, offers him cam work - something he can do from his rented room, on his own laptop, but still get paid. Josh agrees - jacking off seems simple enough when one hasn't to contort himself, and getting paid to jack off - what more could he want?

The author has done really good research for her books and gives good insights to the industry. What we see on film is hard work for the actors, and there is a constant fear of STDs that is just part of daily life. It's also true that the straight porn is less likely to utilize condoms, and thus the actors undergo frequent tests to ensure they're as safe as can be. When Mike is told that one of his recent co-actors on the M/F set has been tested positive, he is immediately sent for a test, and anyone with whom he performed since then must also be tested. Additionally, until he tests negative, he cannot perform with anyone else.

And so Josh and Mike reconnect. With Mike laying low and waiting the appropriate potential incubation time, he's got time on his hands, right?

There's a bit of angst among the giggle-snorts, and Josh's antics kept me largely entertained. This series is campy, cheesy fun for the most part, though there are some serious undertones between the lines. With each book, the author offers an unflinching look at the porn industry, and reminds us in subtle ways that what we as consumers see is only the glossy outer layers, and not the seedy underbelly of the beast. Mike knows that his days as a performer have a sell-by date, and he tries to share that knowledge with Josh.

Mike also has a secret he's keeping from Josh - which I thought was going to create a bit more of an issue when it comes out, but thankfully Josh isn't just naive and reckless, he's also kind and forgiving.

There's a happy ending here too, which I appreciated very much. It was nice to see them in a good place in the end, in love and happy.

I couldn't tell if there's going to be another book in this series, but I sure as heck hope so. This was a fun read!

I enjoyed this book. The premise is fun and drama filled and entertaining. The chemistry between Mike and Josh is sweet. I laughed a lot at some of the porn names and jokes. Very well done.

The colorful cast of Murmur Inc is back to show that love IS possible in the world of adult entertainment. When the new boy on the block finds himself drawn to the veteran star sparks fly in this romance that’s fun, flirty, with a bit of seriousness thrown in to fully invest readers in their bumpy road to HEA. From start to finish moments of sweetness and charm are balanced with real life issues related to the industry in a tale that kept me waiting with bated breath until the very end.

Josh Clemmons is young and a bit uncertain about what he wants to be when he grows up. Being poor and tired of struggling to make ends meet has Josh looking for a career that will make him rich and when his porn obsession leads to an unexpected audition he jumps at the chance to be a star. While his audition doesn’t go quite as he planned it’s the connection he feels for a veteran actor that really changes his life. Real life issues soon war with the hearts and flowers of romance in a journey that’s sometimes frustrating but always realistic as I rooted for them every step of the way. Josh is larger than life, a bundle of energy and poor decisions, but I was still utterly charmed by him. He was like a puppy at times, eager to please and quick to be hurt by criticism. He was quick to jump, allowed himself to act before he thought, but when it comes to feelings and honesty he wears his heart on his sleeve. Though Josh’s life has been tough and he’s gotten a few bruises along the way he still picks himself up and rolls with the punches which made me like him all the more.

Mike Harwood had an equally tough upbringing because of his looks and his bisexuality, but with his success in the adult entertainment world he’s the one now laughing all the way to the bank. It’s been three years of making a name for himself, three years of going through the motions like a pro, but lately it’s all starting to feel fake. He’s become jaded, frustrated, and is also looking towards a life away from the business. The moment he meets Josh though his life changes irrevocably as he becomes a mentor...and eventually more. Helping Josh becomes his mission, feeding off his energy becomes his addiction, in a relationship that takes a unique path to HEA. Mike’s a bit cold when readers first meet him, his annoyance on full display. The moment he meets Josh though a softer side emerges, a more protective side that has him making decisions he never thought he’d make before. Being with Josh made Mike more personable, more charming, and by the turn of the final page I couldn’t picture them with anyone else.

This was an entertaining story set in the fascinating world of adult entertainment. Ms. Anderson vividly depicted this sensual world with all its good and bad realities, nothing was sugarcoated, and I became quickly immersed in the lives of this unlikely little family. Though I liked Josh there were times that his melodramatic ways got a bit annoying. His naivete was also frustrating and had me constantly worrying for his safety as he first entered the adult entertainment world. Mike’s protective ways were much appreciated and a solid foundation for their burgeoning relationship. There was a lot of sensuality surrounding this story but not as many actual encounters as you’d think considering the setting. On a whole there’s a nice balance of sexiness and sweet romance that allows Josh and Mike to get to know each other after Josh’s initial audition, allows them to create a romance worth rooting for. Ultimately the Murmur Inc series is immensely likable with a unique setting and colorful characters that has me counting down the days until the next installment hits bookshelves.

I was very happy to discover that "Cam Boy" is better than both book one and book two in the series (all three can however be read as standalones). The story is sweet and the characters likeable, the rhythm engaging and the writing spot-on. I definitely recommend it.

4 Guilty Pleasure stars.

Cam Boy is the third installment of the Murmur Inc. series, and can easily be read as a standalone. The only tie to each book is the Murmur Inc. setting, featuring Collette, the producer.

What I enjoy the most about this series is the levity – it doesn't take itself too seriously, offering many laughs and steamy scenes, yet the characters pack an emotional punch. I'm a sucker for the gut-punch sensation of rejection, and Cam Boy did this to me a few times over.

Josh is broke, and obsessed with the porn industry after he learned an ex-coworker of his joined Murmur Inc. He's always checking their website for an audition and is floored when he gets a callback.

Josh isn't prepared when he meets Mike, one of Murmur Inc.'s top seasoned actors. Awkward hilarity, with a mix of rejection ensues, strumming my emotions across the board.

What I appreciated the most is how a series set in the sex industry doesn't glamorize nor vilify it. In fact, this installment more so than the others, shows both the pros and cons of the industry with accuracy yet compassion.

It's obvious that Josh and Mike have amazing chemistry, their opposing personalities feeding into one another. To me, this read as the beginning of what will blossom.

My only complaint was the tedious inner monologue that took away from the story itself. Both Josh and Mike would mull over their redundant thoughts for pages on end, causing me to become bored, to the point I found myself skimming to the nearest action/dialogue. This is when their voices melded until they were almost indistinguishable from each other. While in action and dialogue, they were very much separate characters.

I love the setting and the premise, and I can't wait to see what else the author has in store for this series.

My second story in the Murmur Inc. series and I think I liked Hotline better. Still a bit too much attention to mundane detail, such as keys making plop sounds and navigating spiral staircases and wireless mice. These over-descriptors turn me off the story a bit, which is sad because the story wasn't bad! I hate when I have to skim!

Josh was a little flaky, a little wish washy, but Mike Harwood is a good solid character. Taking young Josh under his wing (not completely magnanimously... he is pretty to look at, after all). Mike tries to show Josh the ropes in the porn trade. Josh comes off smug at first but finds porn isn't the cake job he thought it would be. But Mike, he's the whipped topping Josh is hoping to lick off his fingers. Not being able to separate real feelings from porn reactions, Josh is genuine when Mike isn't even sure what that is anymore. Mike realizing he's a bit jaded and Josh realizing porn is hard work, the two seem too different to hit it off but have really good chemistry. I really like these guys together, Mike is a bit bossy and Josh (well, and me too) likes that… a lot. Add in a bit of an STI scare, the two make hard life decisions and hope they end up together when the dust settles. Great epilogue and perfect ending, so I did enjoy the read!

This is a fun story of the relationship between a veteran porn star and a cocky but thoroughly unprepared wannabe. There isn’t a huge age gap between Josh and Mike, but Mike’s experiences make him seem much older.

There are some brilliant moments in this story, but it lacks some of the humour I’ve enjoyed in the first two books. With an HIV scare and Mike questioning his future at Murmur Inc., there are a few more serious threads in this story. The characters and their experiences feel more realistic in this book and while I loved the ridiculous moments in the first two stories, I feel like I was able to connect to Josh and Mike as characters more easily in this one.

As always, this book is sex positive and non-judgmental. I liked Josh’s friends and roommates, but we don’t see too much of them. This is a fun and slightly angsty read. I love Quinn Anderson’s writing and this series continues to make me smile.

Delicious read. At first it felt a little messy but no that was my own head lol.
Loved it.
A little peek at the porn side of filmmaking.
Josh wants to be a movie star so after sending over what they wanted to know and see, he gets an invitation. There he meets Mike the porn star who will help him.

Well....let me say things are running different than Josh expected... he is absolute naive but o so sweet and honest. Mike is very impressed and can't get Josh out of his head. Ditto for Josh.
Josh ends up as a cam boy and that's more his thing. He has a private admirer Martin...

Endearing personalities I loved immediately.
Really lovely story it was funny, sexy, endearing, wonderful honest and written like all above.

Okay, I just have to say how much I'm enjoying this author! Last month I read On Solid Ground and was definitely impressed, so I couldn't resist when I saw this one come up on NetGalley. While Cam Boy is part of the Murmur Inc. series the author states it can be read as a stand-alone and she is 100% correct - though I'm quickly going to purchase books 1 & 2 in the series... and everything else Quinn Anderson has written.

First off, I'm just going to say what a great premise this was for a novel. (Frankly, I had a hard time ridding it from my mind after reading Watching and Wanting last year, and if you've read that one you will know why.) So Anderson goes somewhere different with this story, don't be expecting a bunch of on camera scenes, the heat between the two MCs is hot and very well done and I was quite satisfied ;P

The Cam Boy is Josh, who finds himself in a dead-end job he hates, living from paycheck to paycheck, and no prospects on the horizon. Josh figures porn is easy money but when he tries it - well you'll see the reasons he decides it's not for him. So when he's offered the chance to try the solo on-camera stuff, that is a much better fit for him.

Mike, the porn star and Josh's love interest, is a jaded three year veteran of the porn business. Anderson does a great job of establishing this character and setting the stage for the big changes that come over Mike’s life.

I enjoyed watching these two work their ways through everything that happens to them. The whole story flows smoothly and just left me wanting to read more books by Quinn Anderson. Lucky for me I’ve got New Heights already loaded on my Kindle.

The plot summary for the book is so accurate that I don't think you need me to rehash that in a review. They have a meet-awful but are still drawn to each other, Josh decides porn isn't for him, takes up cam work for the same company instead. This is the bare bones plot of the book and, despite the porn industry setting, honestly the least interesting thing about it.

CAM BOY is Quinn Anderson's third Murmur, Inc. novel, and the other two also take place in the orbit of the same company, but all can be read as standalones. Murmur, Inc. produces an array of sexual services and content, everything from pornographic video to photography to phone sex to camming. One of my favorite parts of the book was actually when Josh went to his boss (the owner) to quit. She nodded, said she understood it wasn't a good fit, and offered him an alternative. It's the sort of thing you don't see often in these sorts of books. Usually, the stripper leaves the industry for good and often with some sex-shaming stigma attached. This entire novel was blissfully free of that.

You're waiting to hear what's more interesting than shooting porn? Most of the book. The porn shoot scenes are so awkward and clinical that it's a wonder Josh and Mike retain any of their chemistry. It's clear that Josh doesn't know what he's doing, and you get a distinct sense of second-hand embarrassment for the poor guy as the director tells him to move his arm here, stop doing that, do more of this other thing. Mike is kind and helpful, but it's ultimately still a job and it's not the right one for Josh.

The emotional and romantic core of the book is in the last third, but without the buildup and stage-setting of the first two-thirds, it wouldn't have made sense, so the pacing didn't feel off. Several small negotiations of trust and consent were important and memorable, so I'd like to highlight a couple of them here.

When Josh starts his cam channel, he leaves it open to his local area and shares too much personal information about himself. Mike happens to be scrolling through the Murmur, Inc. site and sees Josh's channel, then sees that Josh isn't protecting himself. He joins, buys a private session, and then uses that time to teach Josh (anonymously) how to better protect himself. Part of this is because Josh's character has quite a bit of growing up to do and is impulsive/reckless in comparison to Mike's years of experience. Part of it is because Mike wants to spend time with Josh. When Mike tells Josh what he's done, they talk about it like two adults who care about one another and work through their feelings and motivations. It's all very reasonable and not at all the "big misunderstanding" that it could have been.

Later, when they finally (I DO MEAN FINALLY) have sex that isn't being scripted, Mike uses his sexual experience in a really refreshing way. He doesn't just magically know what Josh will like, he tries different things and asks for feedback until he gets it right. This might have been my favorite part of the entire book - Mike does not have the stereotypical magic romance-hero penis. He has a sincere motivation to make his partner feel pleasure. So much better.

CAM BOY isn't perfect, however. Josh's attitude toward porn and personal safety really bothered me at some points. As mentioned, he's got some growing up to do. He thinks porn will just be having sex on camera, not hours of challenging physical activity and acting. He quits his job after getting an audition with Murmur and makes some other questionable choices. This could all be written off as a personality thing and part of his character arc, but I was really bothered by the fact that he didn't take it seriously after that, either. He obviously didn't read the information that Murmur gave him about running his channel, and it felt like a forced plot device to get Mike into his cam channel.

There's also an HIV scare, which is mostly handled with care, but the author left out any mention of PrEP, which I'd assume porn actors would be on. Murmur has strict rules about their actors being tested regularly and various safety measures, but there's no mention of what something that's become standard for sex workers or those at high risk of contracting HIV.

Overall, CAM BOY is a diverting novel that, for all that it's set in the sex industry, is definitely more romance than erotica. I'm not sure I'd put it at erotic romance even, though the off-camera antics between Mike and Josh are quite hot.

It started out so good. I always enjoy Quinn's characters.

Josh is looking for a way out of ramen noodle life. After learning that one of his previous co-workers joined the porn industry he decides to give it a shot himself.

Mike is a porn star. He's been in the industry for three years when most people seldom last three months. He knows the ropes.

When Mike is asked to audition and mentor Josh, sparks fly. The chemistry is undeniable. But so is the friction. (no pun intended) ;-)

Josh is too green. Mike is too professional. How do they find common ground?

I loved Josh. He often seemed more mature than his 21 years. Then sometimes his youthfulness would peek through.

It was harder to warm up to Mike. I found him a little self-important. Not narcissistic, just more focused on what was good for himself.

An HIV scare brought the two back together on hiatus from performing while they waited for testing. I'm honestly not impressed with the way that was presented at first. Although later on some misconceptions were corrected.

I was very impressed in how the porn industry and it's performers were portrayed with respect and a decided lack of condemnation.

Overall I enjoyed the story. ***3.5 stars***

Now I'm off to find Josh and Mike's "channel". ;-)

While I applaud Anderson for setting the book in the world of porn (which was realistic especially "the scare" scene), Josh and Mike fell short for me. Not bad, not great, just okay.

Note: This is part of a series but can be read standalone. I have not read the first two, but did not feel later or like I was missing anything.

This is my third read from Quinn Anderson, and unfortunately, this one did not work for me as well as the first two. I disliked Josh immediately. I found him whiney and immature, and though I liked Mike, I didn't live him, and I just didn't see their connection or what Mike saw in Josh. I didn't love the dialogue or the story, though the plot was good in theory and I did like the non-cookie-cutter HEA. Though this wasn't for me, I'm still a fan of this author and will definitely be back for more.

Cam Boy is an interesting comedy romance novel which deals with the porn industry. The characters are well drawn written and very likeable. At times, the sexual contact between the two main characters tends to overtake the proceedings and sometimes takes away from the emotional depth of the characters. This is only a very minor personal criticism of an overall enjoyable romantic comedy.

Anderson has a penchant for handsome main characters with a down home quality with a torture soul behind the beauty. This works very well within the confines of the novel. The characters on the peripheral aspects of the story, are sassy, direct and full of personality which helps draw out the plot and the emotional sense of the proceedings.

The romance and two main characters are personable though at times, their insecurities become quite repetitious. I personally felt that at times, there was a slight pushing against the grain with a naïve character Josh can be a bit annoying though the author tries hard to make him sexy and likeable. Anderson has ensured that the character of Mike is more well-rounded and structured. There is a pretence that the little head within this novel seems to be doing the thinking for the big head and it is hard to find where the emotional link between the two characters.

All in all, this is an enjoyable read and with its likeable characters, strong secondary characters and running like a modern day romantic comedy, Anderson hits all the right buttons though would have liked a little more depth. If you are looking for a fun light read, give this book a try as there is a lot to enjoy within its pages.
