Readable, yet run-of-the-mill Krakauer. If one weren't familiar with his newer work, it'd probably resonate more fully. EIther way, it is short enough that it is worth it.

I read Jon Krakauer because he is a master at offering the reader glimpses into the lives of ordinary and extraordinary folks. While it may not seem like it when you read what this essay is about, this book is, like all of Krakauer's famous works, a story about a man's journey to explore his environment. The man is architect Christopher Alexander and this slim tome explores his life, creative process, inspirations, and works.

Jon Krakauer known for his words, and Christopher Alexander known for his unusual construction techniques come together as one in A Clean, Well-Lighted Place. Pictures display Alexander's famous work as Krakauer explains the process behind his work and the man himself. This is a very short book.

You might have heard of Jon Krakauer because you've read "Into the Wild," about a man who died in Alaska almost six months after graduating college. That's why I submitted a request to read this short which was originally published in the December 1985 edition of "New Age Journal." That type of adventure is missing from "A Clean, Well-Lighted Place," a roughly 22-page profile on architect Christopher Alexander. I had a tough time getting into this.

'A Clean, Well-Lighted Place' by Jon Krakauer is a short essay from 1985 republished in the Vintage Shorts series.

In this short essay, the work of architect Christopher Alexander is discussed. Mr. Alexander is not fond of the modern school of architecture. His approach to design has influenced other fields from sociology to software design.

It's of interest to read an older work from a now famous author. I can see the same concise and compelling writing here that I see in his more popular works.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Vintage, Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

A short history of a unique architectural vision. This title is a little gem.
