Framed is the first novel in the Black Swann Investigation series. It is set in Penticton, BC and has many familiar Canadian references. Reggie Swann is a former Toronto Police Services Homicide Detective, recently released from jail after being wrongly convicted of murder. She wants to clear her name once and for all and get her old and her life back. She agrees to help a local lawyer investigate a murder case where a man is accused of killing his wife. There is no body and he insists he is innocent. Everyone including Reggie believes he is guilty. During the investigation, Reggie meets an End of Life Care nurse named Randal and starts a relationship with him. Maybe she should reconsider why she wants to return to Toronto and that there is nothing really waiting for her there.
Excellent character development and the suspense builds as the story evolves. The story keeps the reader engaged all the way through and the even though you can predict most of the ending, there is still a nice little twist. I hope to see more of this series going forward.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for an ARC.

This book started out to slow for me. I like for a book to grab me from the start and never let go until the last word. This one only got real interesting about two thirds of the way in. If no farther. I really wanted to love this. I loved the excerpt I read but was somewhat disappointed in the book.

I received a copy via NetGalley for my honest review.

framed by Wayne Kerr.
Toronto’s newest homicide detective, Reggie Swann, seemed to have it all: great career, handsome husband and plans to start a family, until she was framed for murder…
a absolutely fantastic read. loved the story and the characters. I could see this as a movie. I felt like I was there watching it all happen I loved Reggie. I knew she was innocent instantly. I did not like cronus he was Evil. I certainly didn't see that coming. highly recommended. 5*. would give more if I could.

#Framed by Wayne Kerr

I found it a little difficult in the beginning of the book where it keeps switching point of view. However once you get into the main story it all makes sense. This will be very disappointing if I have already figured out who the killer is - only slightly less than halfway through the book. And I was right in guessing the killer’s identity which is very disappointing when you haven’t even reach the halfway point. I went ahead and finished the book since I have gotten it free from #NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review. Unfortunately I don’t think that I will be able to recommend this book to anyone. For the short amount of time that takes in prison an awful lot of the book is dedicated to describing what it’s like being imprisoned. I think we all know by so many shows being taped in actual prisons we all have a pretty good idea of what goes on there. There were errors in the book that should have been caught by several people before it being published. The most glaring being “ring her neck.”

Good start to new series…With the book opening in prison, we get a glimpse of the life that Reggie endured for 8 years. Her first thought is to clear her name and get her life in Toronto back. When she returns instead to her mother's home, Reggie is asked to help clear a husband being held for the disappearance of his wife. Reggie is not totally comfortable with this because she feels like she has gone to the 'dark side' helping a defense attorney. Reggie is a well-drawn character, who is starting to rebuild her life. What I didn't expect was to have the story also told from the point of a serial killer, who had taken the missing wife from her home. I usually avoid serial killer book but this story kept me reading until the end. I received a copy of this book from Net Gallery. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in this series.

Not a favorite of mine. The characters seemed 1 dimensional until about 60% through. Reggie and Hannah became more interesting with interaction

Former Toronto Homicide Detective Reggie Swann once had it all - a promising career, a loving husband, a bright future. In spite of her proclaimed innocence, her murder conviction quickly changed all that as she now resides in prison, fighting to survive in the special hell reserved for incarcerated former cops who are hated by inmates and guards alike. Over eight long years later, Reggie (aka The Black Swann) is released on a "technicality" and soon discovers you can never really go home again. Especially when most people still consider you to be the murderess Black Swann. When a local woman goes missing, leaving behind evidence that indicates her husband killed her, Reggie is brought into the case as an investigator by Erika, a lawyer hoping to prove the husband was framed. The two women are joined by Hannah, a cop trying to find her place in a world ruled by men. Through the investigation of these three women, pieces of a darker, more sinister story unravels and threads linking the missing woman to several past cases reveals a possible tie to what happened to Reggie. Will these women discover the serial killer's identity before he takes someone else?

Framed is an intense, riveting mystery/thriller. From page one, I found myself intrigued by Reggie's story, quickly flipping pages to find out where her journey would end. The plot maneuvers through a few twists and although I found some of them predictable, the intense pace, though sporadic at times, kept me reading. The author does a nice job introducing characters and building connections and relationships. Readers will find themselves pulling for them to succeed. While it wasn't hard to figure out the villain's identity by about the halfway point, the story held my attention right up until the big climax. At this point, it all derails somewhat for me as the story suddenly seems to become a sprint for the end with scenes that seem too rushed, over-the-top, and unbelievable, giving an otherwise great story a rather implausible ending in my opinion. I would have liked for the author to take more time letting this part of the story play out in a more realistic, detailed manner. Having said that, Framed is a solid mystery/thriller readers will enjoy with the potential for following books to be great! A Must Read!

Wow !! Just Wow !! I loved the plot ! I loved the characters !

The book began intriguing and ended on a high note.

So, we have Reggie, a straight cop who has been jailed for murder, which she has not done. But the evidences say otherwise. So a 8-year prison term has cost her everything.. her marriage, her name, her image not to mention the violent behavior she has to face in the prison because of being an ex-cop. But Reggie is one bad-ass survivor and she's held her own in the prison. It was fascinating to read about Reggie's survival in such difficult circumstances. Her thoughts, her feeling of betrayal, her lost hope... Heart-breaking ! After 8 long years in the prison, Reggie has been set free after the previous evidences were overruled after reviewing the evidences with latest technology.

Reggie then gets roped into an investigation where a husband has been charged with murdering his wife. Before this, we get a glimpse of what actually happened with the husband and wife. And let me tell you it was chilling !! The expertise and precision with which the unsub set up the scene was genius !!

Circumstances bring together 3 different yet connected women - Reggie the ex-homicide detective, Hannah, a cop who wants to make a place for herself in the cop life and Erika a lawyer, who once had a thriving criminal law practice but is now helping her father with mundane law cases because of his health. This all female pack is now in pursuit of what they believe is a serial killer at work.

The chain of events by which this team unearthed evidences and made a case for the innocence of the arrested husband was absolutely thrilling !

And let me tell you this, based on my craze for mysteries and thrillers, when a certain character was introduced, I had an inkling that something was fishy here. But at 57%, when my doubts were confirmed, it was exhilerating !

I was on high-alert and was going through the scenes in my head and couldn't wait to see how Reggie and her team would uncover the unsub's identity. Damn ! That was one hell of a rush !! I loved how it all came together. A special mention of the unsub's character. His behavior, his nature, his complexities.. so well written.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it.

Thank you NetGalley and Imajin Books for generously sharing the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I now have a new series to read! I really enjoyed this book that I was given for an honest review. No problem I always give an honest review. This book kept my interest from beginning to end. I didn't want to put it down. I did figure out who was the perpetrator however I think Wayne Kerr (a new author to me but it won't be the last I want to read all of the "Black Swann" series) wanted the readers to knows adding more suspense. The main character, now ex-homicide detective, Reggie Swann known as the "Black Swan" was framed for murder and spent 8 years in prison where the other inmates knew she was once a homicide detective. This put a target on her back 24/7.. Finally freed with the help of Christian Advocates for Justice Enterprise and the diligent financial help of her mother who believed in her 100 percent, Reggie's new purpose was to find the person who framed her and get her badge back. Howeve, since she was released on a technicality the other cops didn't accept her anymore. She was no longer one of them. She lost her freedom for 8 long harrowing years, she lost her husband whom she still loved, and she lost her badge that she loved to her core and she was in prison when her beloved father died. Can she find her way in the new world of freedom and how will she get her badge back. Given an opportunity to help find a serial killer by the organization that freed her she digs in to help. Everything changes for her with this job and it leads her into mortal danger. Did she get her life back only to lose it by a serial killer? Well worth the read!

Welcome to Reggie Swann's life she has spent the last 8 years in prison wrongly convicted of murder . Until the day science saves her and proves that she was innocent . But she in the mean time has lost everything her job as a police detective and her husband and most in important the 8 yrs of being in the prison system. When you first start reading you think this is going to be a prison story but there is so much more . The prison just sets up the rest of the story . She ends up investigating another murder in her home town for the defense and everything looks like the husband did it . But her super sleuthing and her old friends help her realize that there is a serial killer out there . Will she survive to catch the killer and get her life back
This story had me hooked from the very first page . I got sucked in and couldn't put it down. i read well into the night and just had to finish and see who was the killer . I loved the fact that the story is based in Canada and the author uses different cities all across Canada as back ground for the serial killer . Most of the story is focused in British Columbia actually Penticton . The author takes us on a roller coaster ride full of twists and turns . You really try to figure it out and you kind of will about 3/4 of the way through and then you go ah ha .Then the action increases and you are on the edge of your seat the rest of the way through the book
The characters are very entertaining and well written . i loved the main character Reggie , she is strong and sweet at the same time . You see her fumble through the first weeks of her being free . She is so use to prison life that she still does some of the things that she did while in prison . We also see her bring out her detective skills and just become the pit bull the defendant needed . Hannah is her friend and she is the girl next door and also a cop . She is not taken seriously at the precinct so when she starts helping Reggie she feels like she can do anything especially help out finding out who the killer is and become a hero and the new face of the police department . Cronus is evil i am just going to leave it at that . You will understand why i can't go into more cause i am not going to spoil it for you .
This book is a great book for those who love a mystery and want to figure it out . There is intrigue and a little love mixed in . The author doesn't pull any punches and the twists and turns will keep you guessing . i really loved this book and can't wait to read more of Reggie's stories . So check it out and add this book to your 2018 reading list

I really enjoyed this tale of a police officer 'gone bad', kind of police procedural mixed with an excellent story of redemption. Reggie Swann was found guilty of murder, spending 10 years in prison for a crime she continued to say she did not commit. She found herself immediately shunned by all in her squad, even her husband turns his back on her, getting divorced and remarried while she remained in jail. Being a former cop in jail brought it's own problems, as the other inmates plotted to get her, beating her as often as possible. Reggie learns alot in her time served, so when her mother has the justice lawyer Robert plan a third hearing, she is ready for anything.
Released after new findings, Reggie realizes that nothing goes back to the way it was. A new case in her town grabs her interest, when she meets the lawyer, she is asked to investigate the case for $500.00 a day. Reggie takes the chance and starts her 'new' life.
This story is well written, with many twists as more cases are found that are the same as the one Reggie works on. I was intrigued by the wonderful characters and exciting action, making this a very enjoyable story to read. I look forward to the next in the 'Black Swann Investigations'!!

Reggie Swan has been in prison 10 years. Those years have been pure hell.
Especially since she's innocent. Getting out on a technicality does help her standing in her home town either.
Great character. Strong, feisty, and determined.
Enjoyed reading this book. Loved the drama. I can't wait to read the next book. I'm sure it'll be full of twist and turns, just like this one.
5 Stars

Framed takes you into the heart and mind of wrongly convicted homicide detective Reggie Swann. She has been in prison for ten long years when her lawyer has her case overturned and she is released. But overturned isn’t proven innocent and now Reggie is living with her mother trying to wrap her mind around freedom. She’d really like to find the jackhole who framed her but first she is asked by the lawyer who got her freed for a favor. Can she help a hometown lawyer prove her client is innocent. She is used to being on the other side of the equation but an investigation is something she is very good at.
Despite some unfortunate pacing issues I really liked Reggie and enjoyed this story. I look forward to future Black Swann Investigations.

Reggie Swann spent 10 years in prison for a murder she didn't commit. Thanks to her mother, a lawyer who didn't quit and new forensic tests, she was released. Not a story that's different .. except Reggie was a Homicide Detective. Placed in general population, she learned how much of a survivor she was. Now that she's out, what she wants most to find the man who framed her all those years ago.

A man who fought to prove her innocent offers her a job ... a murder has occurred in her mother's small town in Canada ..and he wants Reggie to use her investigative talents to help find the truth.

As it turns out, she knows the woman who has gone missing and presumed murdered. The local police have charged her husband, but is he really guilty? Or is Reggie looking at him as innocent .. but framed like she was?

This is a well-written crime thriller. The characters are credible and the story line is a good one. Along the way, the reader hears from the person responsible, and his motive is chilling. There are twists and turns along the way that keep the reader captivated until the very last page.

This is the start of a series and I'm really looking forward to her next adventure as a Private Investigator of Black Swann Investigations.

Many thanks to the author / BookBuzz.net / Netgalley for the digital copy. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
