I am DNFing this thirty pages. in please do not kill me. the issue is the writing– it’s really amateur-ish and melodramatic. I cannot handle it. But honestly, if you can tolerate Throne-of-Glass or typical-thriller style melodramatic writing, you will have no problem at all with this. it’s just me being a picky asshole.

but anyway:
🌺 stop using ellipses
🌺 please write emotional crises better this is not how anyone reacts to their mother dying what even
🌺 I don’t even know get into the protagonist’s head more?? a personal preference but really
🌺 needs waaaaaaaaay more tension

beginning to regret requesting Generic Suspense Novels from Netgalley someone ban me from this website

I took quite a long time to get into this book , but that was down to me not the book , when I finally got into it I did really enjoy it , although didn't really like any of the characters , Jenny who you believe to be a victim of a horrid home life , neglected by her mother and abused by her mothers boyfriend , she meets David who lives in her village and they start a relationship . things are certainly not as they seem and there are lots of interesting threads that wind together and as the book is written from both their points of view I really wasn't sure what was going on . Fast paced and interesting , I would recommend this book

Whoa ! The way this book grips you after 50 pages is something that happened with me after ages. I could not stop reading. My work bothered me , sleep eluded me and I was on edges while reading this. This is so fantastically plotted and written that I was both nervous and curious to know the end. One of the best read for me this month. And I will remember this for long time.

Must read.

This was quite a ride! The suspense just kept building and building and I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next. Gripping!

An entertaining enough, if not revolutionary, addition to a crowded genre. Savvy readers may figure out the twists, but the books the moves along quickly enough to still be a satisfying read.

WoW, WoW and WoW what a book. This brilliant book by Frances Vick is a story that revolves around three people Jenny, Freddie and David.
Jenny comes across all sweet and innocent. She has just lost her mother in a freak accident. Jenny had an abusive childhood and she now lives for her blogs. These blogs contain made up stories about her and her life, which she has a lot of followers. Jenny Loves attention from others especially from David and Freddie and thrives from it.
Jenny loves being in control. However, she can be manipulative and is very good at it towards the end of the book. (You will not see this at the beginning of the book as Jennie seems all sweet and innocent!)
David went to school with Jenny and has cared and looked after her in his own way without Jenny realising. Jenny is very special to David and he is there at the right time to show support and cares for her a lot. David has become obsessed with Jenny.
David comes over very smart and very calm. He has OCD and has told lies about why he had to leave senior school etc. His lies become bigger and better throughout the book. You sometimes ask yourself "Who is he really?" He sounds like a prince in shinning armour or does he?!
Freddie, is Jenny's best friend. He is very sweet, very open and so likeable - he's a girls dream fella. He supports her in all circumstances. The have a fantastic bond between each other. Freddie becomes concerned and feels something isn't right about David. Freddie sets out to find more about David. Its shocking what Freddie finds out about him. How does he tell Jenny as a relationship has started between her and David? Does this become the fate of Freddie when he digs deeper. I liked Freddie and he played a brilliant role in the brilliant book.

But who is real and who is fake ? Who is lying ? Who is controlling the twists?? Whats going to happen next? What a twist! What a ending!
Was the book really over 400 pages? WoW WoW..........Big 5 fat Stars for this book.
Can't you tell I loved it.

Amazing book which kept me guessing the whole way through. Fantastic character development and the use of different mediums to continue the story kept the reader interested.

What a brilliant book. I did not see the twist in it coming. A real page turner, I couldn’t put it down. Highly recommended.

Thanks to Netgalley and Frances Vick for the copy of this book. I agreed to give my unbiased opinion voluntarily.

This is the story about a woman whose mother dies and who ends up in a strange, controlling relationship. I found it confusing and frustrating and just couldn't care about the characters, although, Freddie was someone I did feel interested in, but, overall this wasn't for me.

I appreciate the opportunity to preview and thanks to net galley and the publishers.

Unusually I've sat on this review for a week since I finished the book so that I could have a think about what I really think of it. Also - its a pretty tough review to write without giving away any of the complexities of the plot.

Jenny hasn't had an easy life. Sal, her single mother, was good at picking the wrong kind of man. After years of living in a dodgy part of town and a love/hate relationship with the police they managed to escape from sleazy, violent Marc.

Freddie is Jenny's best friend and always trying to help and support her. Encouraging her in her studies to become a therapist and keeping a close eye on the online blog that she writes to help keep herself sane. He would do anything for her.

David fell in love with Jenny the day that she walked into his classroom all those years ago. Beautiful and clever she is his perfect girl. He would do anything for her.

When Sal is discovered dead in the snow Jenny's life is turned upside down. Dealing with the police and coping with the grief all prove to make her life very difficult.

Liars is a complex book. Told from the point of view of each of the main characters you are never entirely sure who is telling the truth and which of them is the Liar. With a plot that twists and turns constantly you'll be on the edge of your seat and desperate to get to the end to discover the truth. It's the perfect escape from those dark winter days. Curl up on a comfy sofa and see if you can catch the liar...

This feels like someone read a psychology textbook about the steps to an abusive relationship and then wrote a book. Almost a step by step account on how to do it: Step 1) Choose target with history of abuse. Check. Step 2) Ensure they have experienced a recent loss. Check. Step 3) Flatter, infiltrate gently undermine. Step 4)Isolate from friends. Step 5) Constant surveillance under the guise of protectiveness.
To be honest I'm 47% of the way through and I'm so bored. I know exactly what's coming, I know the "twist" at the end already and to be honest I care very little for the characters. Jenny has self-esteem issues but seems very willing to stand up for herself against her "best friend" who is always by her side and patiently helps her but obviously doesn't understand her new relationship.
Freddie has portents of doom but waits until he is drunk before confronting her.
The unused room and Mrs Haversham type mother are so formulaic as to be trope.
It is unlikely that I will finish it.

Liars
By Frances Vick

1 Star

Thirty minutes into the book and I gave up.
The plot was slow.
The monologue draining.
The character development lacking
Snooze.

At about 25% and this book is boring me to death. I just can't get into this one at all.

Really enjoyed this book at the start and loved the story line but once it got half way through and more people started being involved it made me lose interest.

While this book was a little slow to get into, once I did I could not put it down. Just as I thought I knew what was happening it switched, at different points throughout I changed my mind who I liked/disliked. I really enjoyed the style of writing and will definitely be reading more from Frances Vick. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys thriller/mystery novels.

WOW what a read!

The first quarter of the book was boring and I almost gave up. I'm glad I didn't because the story took off running and I eagerly turned page after page. LIES, so many lies. Twisting, turning, time and time again. This really does show you that you can never really know someone....never REALLY know someone and what they are capable of doing.

A brilliant psychological thriller indeed.
