I enjoyed this quick read, one of a series, The Traitor's Club. I had already read one of the other books and was familiar with many of the characters. As with many historicals, the heroine, Eleanor, Lady Grattling, suffered from numerous bouts of TSTL moments. She was a widowed countess who had turned her estate into a safe haven for 50 homeless children. While her efforts were admirable, her actions put her in direct conflict with the street thug, Mr. Blackboot and his league of henchmen. The hero, Captain Caleb Parker, was a likable man. He was considerate and kind, especially towards Eleanor and the children. I enjoyed the scenes in which he interacted with her wards, watching him acknowledge his fledgling feelings towards the children.

The main angst centered around Eleanor's secret and Caleb's feelings that he was unworthy of Eleanor, due to his station. Caleb also believed that Eleanor was still mourning the loss of a beloved husband. Without divulging too much, I will say that the issues were neatly resolved, allowing for their HEA.

I plan to continue reading the other books in The Traitor's Club series. I would recommend the book to anyone hoping for a short read that left no cliff hanger and featured characters from the series. It was nice to be reunited with those characters and learn more about their lives.

A bit boring in my opinion... It was hard to get into for once and I was unable to finish it. DNF

Great quick read, lots of action romance and betrayal . All the qualities I love in a romance. Caleb Parker will not fall in the same noose -so to speak- as his fellow Traitors he’s just fine being a bachelor.
Until fate steps in and changes his plans. Cupid pays him a visit in the form of a homeless orphan stealing his breakfast. He’s forced to take the child to the orphanage and there he meets Eleanor the Countess of Grattling. Being the man he is Caleb steps in to help when Eleanor is struck by the villain.
Lots of action make this a page turner novella that keep you on edge. Hero doesn’t feel good enough for the lovely heroine but love has other plans! Wonderful story and highly recommend the series.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley.

I enjoy Laura Landon’s books, and Caleb was no exception. Lots of action and interesting characters! The shorter length was perfect for the story.

Can two people from different social realms come together? In this enjoyable novella, all things are possible. Captain Caleb Parker, the last bachelor left of his "Traitor Club" friends, is not looking for marriage. But as things often happen, a small thief leads him there. Apprehending an orphan who tries to snatch his food, takes him to Lady Eleanor, the widowed countess of Grattling. Eleanor runs a home for orphans outside London and Caleb takes his small charge there to hopefully leavein her care. What he finds is Eleanor being attacked by a blackguard and he jumps in to help her. Feeling thankful, she offers him a job to help guard her and the children. As Caleb works for Eleanor they both start to feel an attraction but Caleb, being more of the working class does not feel worthy of her. Eleanor has a wonderful heart and a large capacity for love as she takes care of the children but holds back from Caleb. I loved these two characters and as truths come out, it will warm your heart. Although this is part of a series, this book can be read by itself. But I will definitely go back and read all the others. I really enjoy Laura's stories and this one does not disappoint!!

Caleb is the last of the members of the Traitor’s Club. He is content. He is happy that his friends have found love and married. He is just as happy with this bachelor status. When the story begins, all Caleb wants is a warm roll covered with butter and honey. What he gets is an adventure he never could have imagined. A series of unexpected events brings him together with Lady Eleanor Grattingly in a fight to rescue street children from the clutches of a vile man who captures and abuses them in cruel ways. As they move toward eliminating this menace, they fall in love. Both resist allowing any kind of relationship. What happens? That’s a surprise you are going to love.

Caleb’s story has great characters, danger, mystery, romance, and fun. It is a perfect way to bring the series to a close. The epilogue is not to be missed, a beautiful reunion that lets us see the happy world of our heroes and their families.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and volunteered to review it.

This is the story Captain Caleb Parker, the last of the group of friends to find a lasting relationship. By way of a street urchin called Robbie, Caleb finds himself in the company of Eleanor, Lady Grattling, a countess who is determined to help the street children of London and thwart the ways of Virgil Blackboot. They are attracted to each other but there are factors holding them back from commitment. This is a good paced story with some action and romance. The children are delightful. I have enjoyed all the books in this series and it was good to catch up with the others in the group in the epilogue. I received a copy from Netgalley and have voluntarily reviewed it. This is my honest review.

Thanks for allowing me to read this story. I love Laura Landon's book. I need to read the whole series

Captain Caleb Parker was the lone bachelor, holding out long after his fellow three traitors had tied the knot. One morning he is buying his daily bun from a street vendor when an urchin steals the bun, after catching the young boy Caleb learns Robbie has recently been orphaned & is living on the street. Caleb takes Robbie to Southern Oaks an estate just outside of London, which Lady Eleanor Grattling has adapted to an orphanage for fifty children. Caleb is moved in ways he'd not experienced & he agrees to stay & help guard the orphanage & more importantly Eleanor against the very real threat of Virgil Blackboot, a London child trafficker.
Caleb is the strong, serious ex soldier who finds he loses his heart not only to Eleanor but to the fifty orphans, the way he plays with the children is so heart warming. Eleanor is a widow whos life revolves around her charges. The attraction between the pair is obvious but Caleb is a lowly commoner & Eleanor a Countess so they both think there’s no future for them. I read this novella in one sitting & well into the night as I couldn’t put it down, it just ticked all the boxes for me. This is the fourth & final Traitor’s Club novella & I liked the epilogue, which tied the series up. This could very easily be read by itself
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

3.5/4 stars

Caleb Parker is the final bachelor standing in the "Traitor's Club". Caleb has no desire to join the ranks of the blissfully domesticated. He is happy for his "brothers", but is perfectly content to remain single.

The story starts with a tiny thief stealing Caleb's breakfast, he catches the child and learns that the boy is a homeless, orphan. He also learns of a woman who runs a home for orphans outside of London. Caleb takes the boy to Southern Oaks, the home run by Eleanor, the widowed Countess of Grattling.

Eleanor is being harassed by a henchman for Vince Blackboot, a crime lord in St. Giles. Blackboot has a problem with Eleanor rescuing homeless children, he wants the children, so he can sell them to workhouses and brothels. Bryant, his henchman is currently trying to claim one of the children as his own, Eleanor calls his bluff and he strikes her - he is ready to hit her again, when Caleb intervenes. After a brief misunderstanding on Eleanor's part, she realizes that Caleb is a very decent man and offers him a job.

Caleb takes the job of guarding Eleanor and the children very seriously and saves Eleanor more than once. He is shocked by his reaction to her and tells himself that nothing can come of it - he is the son of a common laborer and she is a Countess and granddaughter of a Duke. But the heart wants what the heart wants.

Eleanor has a huge heart and an enormous capacity for love. She is equally attracted to Caleb, but has her own reasons for keeping him at arm's length.

This is a short novella, but it packs quite a punch! There is action, angst, betrayal, steamy kisses, sweet children and a very sweet epilogue with a Traitor's Club reunion. The only reason I didn't give the book 5 stars is because I felt like Eleanor's secret dragged on a little too long. This is the fourth book in the series, but it could easily be read as a stand alone title.

I was given this book in exchange for my honest review.

About: Captain Caleb Parker was the lone bachelor, holding out long after his fellow traitors had tied the knot. He held himself to no standard but to do good in the world. Until he met the countess. Lady Eleanor Grattling moved him in ways he'd not experienced, tempting him with images of a marriage he knew could never be. Her title and his low station would see to that. Still, every instinct drew him closer, determined to save her from Virgil Blackboot and the evil that threatened her children. All fifty of them.

Review: This was a very short read for me, normally I'm not into shorter books however I loved this book. Even though this book is the 4th in it's series, you can read it as a stand alone. The story was great, I like the hero type romance stories. Even though there were no sexual scenes in the book, I could tell the two main characters were infatuated with each other. This is the type of romance book I would let my 14 year old read due to the fact there are no explicit scenes.

Eleanor was a great addition to this book, I loved her strength and determination to save as many children as she could. Back in this era most people wouldn't even think to do that, but Eleanor knew how to use her station in life wisely. Captain Parker was your normal hero type except he had a soft spot for kids, I knew I liked him as soon as he helped the little boy get to Southern Oaks.

The author is a great writer, there were no grammar or spelling errors. I was able to read the book without getting bored with the story (doesn't happen often). Now that I have read this book I am starting the other books in the series. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that wants a good quick read.

Captain Caleb Parker is out for a bun for breakfast when he catches a boy stealing a bun. He is directed to the Duchess who has opened her home to orphans. She is being threatened by the thug who sells these children to others and she has taken them out of his influence. Caleb makes a deal to help keep her and the children safe. He did not bargain for love. Can they love the children and stop Blackboot to keep them safe? Another good Traitor's Club story.

I enjoyed the book very much. I got swept away in it and couldn't put it down! It's a great addition to the series, but a wonderful stand alone story.

Whilst I am a great fan of Laura Landon, this is the first book in the series that I have read. However, despite being the last in the series and a short story, I didn’t feel that I needed to read any of the previous books in the series.
Captain Caleb Parker first meets Lady Eleanor Grattling, a countess and granddaughter to a duke, when he brings a young orphaned boy to her household. She offers him a job after he intervenes in an attack made by an employee of Blackboot, a vile character who abuses homeless children. What begins as a friendship, quickly turns into romance. Whilst the intimacy between the pair is very innocent, their feelings for each other are very apparent. A lovely story with a good ending.
I received an advanced review copy in exchange for an honest review.

Caleb’s story begins with his catching a little thief, who is homeless and about age three or four, stealing a hot bun. He learns there is a home where he can take Robby to live that is owned by Lady Eleanor. He is hired to help secure the home from people who exploit young children. Along the way Caleb and Eleanor fall in love and there is an eventual HEA. This is a very sweet romance that is appropriate for any young adult and older. The story is well written and I would recommend this book along with the others in this series.

Captain Caleb Parker has run across an orphaned little boy and he decides to take him to an orphanage run by Countess, Lady Eleanor Grattling. She’s not what Caleb expected, she is actually involved with the day to day operations, not just donating money. After her husband died the orphanage became her passion, especially saving the children, fifty of them so far, from the vile Virgil Blackboot a man without a conscience who uses and abuses them. Caleb has vowed to never marry, but the more he helps out at the orphanage the attraction continues to grow between them. Caleb realizes they’re from different worlds and he’s unworthy of her, but the heart wants what it wants and their passions has no boundaries.. He finds out Eleanor and the children are threatened by Virgil Blackboot and he vows to protect them at all cost. A great ending to the “The Traitor’s Club” series!!!
This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.

Publisher's Description:

My Thoughts:
I know this book is part of a series but this is the first one I have read. I enjoyed this short read and will look for the other books by this author.
All Caleb wants is his solitude and friendships with the others in his Traitor's Club group. And breakfast...
Until his breakfast scampers away in the hands of a very grubby street urchin. After Caleb catches the young scoundrel he is faced with a very young and tearful child who looks to be starving. Caleb finds out from the street vendor that the child is orphaned but what will Caleb do with the very young child.
This is how he comes to meet the countess. Lady Eleanor Grattling .
These two are from very different worlds but their worlds collide with one small child and a bevy of others that the lady has taken into her home and chooses to protect, clothe and feed.
Although I have not read any other books in this series I don't feel that it is necessary to have done so to enjoy this novella which reads well as a standalone.
I gave this short read 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 3 of 5 flames. There isn't much in the way of intimacy between our Hero and Heroine, however you know it is there behind every word.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

I loved Caleb and Eleanor's story!! They came from two different worlds, yet they instinctively knew the other. I loved Eleanor and how she made a life for herself after her husband died. She definitely made the world a better place. Caleb was pretty special too. Stepping up to help Eleanor after just meeting her and the kids.

This was a wonderful conclusion to this series. I can't wait to see what Landon comes up with next!
