Exceptional! I liked that there wasn't a lot of inner dialogue. Lots of fast pacing that kept you moving right through the book. Aloa is a great character, and I hope to see more of her.

Aloa might have lost her journalism job and is struggling with an eating disorder but that doesn't mean she can't smell a rat. Hayley's death was about more than anyone wants to admit until Aloa gets her teeth into the case. It's an interesting start to a new series with a very flawed protagonist. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. I'd like to see another one from Townsend.

Down and out Aloa Snow is a former reporter for the Lost Angeles Times. She’s gone from being highly respected to being an outcast….in debt and being blackballed. She is also fighting a eating disorder.
Aloa needs a story….can she redeem herself with a great story? When she receives a call from someone in her past, she decides to investigate the story this person presents to her.
The story flows with a nice pace.
The characters are well defined.

Really enjoyed, I loved the cover as well!

See Her Run features an intriguing mystery with a fantastic group of side characters and I found it to be a good start to the Aloa Snow mystery series.

Aloa Snow is struggling after she lost her job with the LA Times for breaking the cardinal rule of journalism, don’t make up your sources.

It had allot going for it!

This is a crime fiction debut featuring Aloa Snow, an investigative reporter who made one mistake which sandbagged her career. Once highly respected, she's now blackballed and in debt. She's also a recovered anorexic, but she still plays the garbage in, garbage out game, although she makes sure to eat more times than not.

A young woman's body is found in the desert. A well-known athlete, it is determined that her death was a suicide. The woman's boyfriend died a month earlier in a similar way.

When Aloa begins her investigation, she finds that the couple may have been murdered for deep, dark secrets that may have led to blackmail.... and to a story that no one may believe.

What a terrific debut! Aloa is a wonderful character, flawed, trying to overcome the knowledge that she was never good enough for her mother. She has some unique friends who watch her back.

This is a page turner with lots of action. The mystery starts on Page 1 and doesn't let up until the very surprising ending. I'm looking forward to seeing Aloa's next adventure.

Many thanks to the author / Thomas & Mercer / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

When it turns out the girl who died by suicide was on the run from secrets that could kill, Aloa decides there’s a case for murder. This is a mystery with a strong cast of characters to carry the storyline. As a series opener, this points to a bright future for Aloa.

A riveting ride through the manipulation of big business, feeding on the people’s fear of terrorism, told through the eyes of a disgraced journalist. I devoured this in less than 24 hours, I just couldn’t put it down. I look forward to reading more about Aloa Snow.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to preview See Her Run by Peggy Townsend.
A down and out reporter from LA Aloa, gets another chance to redeem herself with a big story. A young woman is found murdered and something similar happened to her boyfriend. What Aloa doesn't realize is that getting involved with this mystery will cause her to run for her own life - and can she survive the truth.
Good read, a bit slow, but overall good first book which may be a series.
3 stars.

Although this book had a lot of twists and turns that I was having trouble keeping up with, the author did a great job of continuously reminding the reader where they were at and what was going on. I found myself hoping some of the character relationships would grow more, but they never did. The mystery was great and it kept me reading chapter after the chapter. I was not disappointed at all wirh the ending! I’d definitely recommend this book.

Provided with a free ARC for an honest review. Very good mystery with a complex plot and an outstanding cast of characters. Aloa is a recovering anorexic journalist with a bad background involving publishing an untrue story. She is given the opportunity to research the possibility of a murder. Supporting characters include a real bunch of eccentrics: Tick, Doc, P-Mac, and Baxter the cat. I would like to read more of the series, perhaps a little romance with Michael? Recommended.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced reader copy of this book. I enjoyed this book more than I actually thought that I would. This book is about Aloa, a reporter with a dishonest past who is down on her luck getting more publishing gigs. Her old friend / flame calls her up and asks her for payment to look into a murder/ suicide story about two young people and this is where the story gets good. As you go along with Aloa on her investigation you become wrapped up in her world and it ends as it should.

Thank you NetGalley, Peggy Townsend, and Thomas & Mercer for the free ebook in exchange for an honest review.

Aloa Snow is a blackballed journalist who is in debt and trying to deal with her complex eating disorder. When authorities find a body of a young woman in the woods, they decide it was suicide, but her mother and Michael Collins from Novo, who Aloa has a complicated relationship with, think otherwise. Michael, a one-time lover and teenager who was fostered with Aloa, she can’t turn him or the money down. Aloa gets immersed into a world she didn’t know anything about; Aloa needs to solve this crime before she gets hurt.

In the beginning we find out all the issues that Aloa has been dealing with and it makes her more relatable. I generally liked her as a main character, but I found I was more into the other characters in the novel. It was nice to have a flawed character, who not only needed to solve these crimes, but her problems as well. I enjoyed the Brain farm group and how they seem to be her little family and helped her with solving this crime whether she wants it or not. The Brain Farm is a little quirky group and I loved the mix of the characters that make it up.

I adored the ending; it just made the story I personally think. It was just the right amount of serious to silly to make you laugh. There is a lot of background in this novel about the characters that have been murdered and there is a lot of politics around a certain business. So that made me a little less interested in some of the chapters, but I cruised through this novel because I did enjoy the characters and I did want to know why and who committed these crimes. The chapters are a bit longer than I tend to like, but I will definitely be waiting for the next Aloa Snow novel!

Aloa Snow is a scorned journalist but also a tenacious investigator. She is pulled back into the death of Hayley, an endurance runner, field by a once childhood friend. Was the death a suicide or murder?

I love reading detective novels as they are my escape. Having the lead be a female journalist is refreshing. However, Aloa's character is not fully fleshed out and could be stronger. The writing style could be tighter to make this happen. None of the characters are fully developed. There was no one personality that I wanted to love or hate. They all just seemed to be "there." I do have to admit that this was a quick read and would be enjoyable for anyone who would want to have a "by the pool" read.

The author has this as this book #1 so I assume that this would be a series. I would give a second book a chance hoping that the characters would be better definite and the plot tighter. What was well defined was the nuances and sites of San Francisco. Location is as much a character are the humans are.

Slow and steady; like the way I run. I liked the constant source of something ‘about to happen’ or happening. Mysterious enough, plottwist’y enough.

I'm going to be the odd one out and say that I found this book to be absolutely unoriginal, boring in style and flat in characters and very put-downable.

But that's just me. Many seem to enjoy it a lot.

I received this copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

A good story until things didn't really add up in the end. Aloa Snow is a down on her luck investigative reporter who takes a job from an old friend. Her assignment is to determine the cause of death of a supposed suicide. Extreme marathon runners, anorexia and performance supplements are just some of the subjects touched upon. The ending throws some other elements in that aren't really necessary and compromise the plot. I like the characters and would read another in a series.

I found this book to be too confusing and slow moving, was too bored to read it. I read the first 1/3 of the book and skipped all the way to the last 10 pages or so just to get it over with. Will not read another in this series.

Okay, I am intrigued and glued to every page of the book. The characters got to me deeper, and the writing has been skillful so far. I love the way the lead character is developing, Aloa (such a pretty name, isn't??!). So far So good.
