This book was ok and it had some nice images but I wasn't a huge fan of the story sadly.
It will appeal to some people but my grandma wasn't like this and nor is my mum now as nanny to my daughter so it wouldn't be one for us.

The little girl who narrates the story simply adores her grandma. The special bond between grandma and granddaughter is a very strong one.

She explains to the reader why she holds her grandma in such high esteem. Why even though grandma talks a lot... a lot..., her grandma is very knowledgeable when it comes to words (both of this world and world's beyond), she is physically fit to the max, she loves culture, both movies and art galleries, she has amazing artistic talents herself, she hates cooking and orders in often, she has plenty of friends (she is the most colourful of them all), and she is a wonderful reader and proponent of bookstores and storytelling, just to name a few.

Grandma teaches her beloved granddaughter about her life and their family life through the wonderful treasures that she has stashed away in her drawers. These secrets are imbedded in necklaces, bracelets, and a doll the belonged to her daughter. She relates familial stories to her sweet granddaughter who is eager to listen and learn from the astute matriarch. The little girl comes to the realization that her grandma is a treasure herself and someone she would love to emulate in her own life.

This book is part of the "Hooray for Family" series. These books are a celebration of childhood in all its beautiful forms and I highly recommend them.

I was not a big fan of this book. While I liked the theme of grandmothers and spending time with them and appreciating what they do, the execution felt off. The way the little girl is jealous of her grandmother is weird. Maybe if it was her sister I would get the feelings but this was not the case. This one was just not for me.

I recieved an ARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was so sweet and honest. A bit too short (I enjoyed it a lot), but it manages to paint a lovely grandma-granddaughter relation with the good and the bad. Plus the grandma in this book seems like an awesome lady, and not just a grandma!

Some moments presented in the book made me feel nostalgic thinking about my grandma. The book is written from the perspective of the granddaughter and I was surprised by the kid's blunt honesty, but it is not mean.

The illustrations are really lovely as well, but what made me enjoy the book the most were the words of the granddaughter and the awesomeness of the grandma! It is a short book, but a great one!

2.5 Stars

This book is long. A little girl is telling the reader all about her grandma. It is in a very childish voice and thought pattern. There are times the girl is annoyed because her grandma talks a lot, or changes her mind at the movies, or even that she burns dinner. And sometimes she's happy or wishes she was more like her grandmother. Overall, not a book I would add to my collection. I can't exactly put my finger on it, I just don’t like it that well.

Do you hate your grandmother?

Are you jealous of her skills?

Do you wish she wouldn't do what she does?

Then, perhaps, this book would appeal to you. For me, it sounds as though the girl is very jealous and angry at her grandmother for doing things like drawing pictures with her, and doing yoga, and talking to people in the park. Simple things. Things that should bring joy to a child.

Perhaps everyone else feels this way.

But I loved my grandmother. I loved that she could draw as well as she could, and strike up conversations with strangers. She was an amazing woman, and if I were to write a picture book about her, I would sing her praises, not pull her down.a

I would like to think that this was more charming in the original Italian.

But, although the pictures are bright, and simple, I would pass on this book. 2.5 stars at best.

The illustration style I really enjoyed. It was bright and colorful and fun. The activity pages at the end were a fun touch too. However, the story I did not like as much. I liked the author showing the relationship between a child and her grandmother, but the child was jealous of all the grandmother could do. The story never really explored that or solved it in a way that made sense or feel whole. Because of this, the story didn't really track with me.

3 stars.

If I could sum this up in one word, I'd say 'Honest'.

It is a very honest story about a child's relationship with her Grandma. The good and the not so good. Written from the child's point of view, it is beautiful and really nice to read.

Being a grandma, I was excited to read this book to my grandson. He listened to the first page and asked me to read something else. There were a lot of words, but they were not very inviting. Yes, it showed that the girl appreciated her grandma, but there was also a lot of what she didn't like. Not one I would recommend.
