A collection of limericks and poems all with a mystery theme. Theres a section on Sherlock Holmes and the Lizzie Borden case, then a short Sherlock Holmes story at the end.

Some of the poems and limericks were funny and some not so much. I enjoyed the section on Holmes and the short story at the end. The illustrations were very good too. A fun read for fans of murder and mystery. I recognised a few famous cases in there too.

I can't remember the last time I laughed this hard at a book. Absolutely hilarious rhymes and illustrations. Great for anyone who needs more laughter in their life.

This was a fun read. I read a lot of mysteries. This is a book of rhymes that are short and sum up the book. Some are tongue in cheek, some are punny, and some are a bit rude but they were all fun to read.

BooksGoSocial and Net Galley let me read this book for review (thank you). It has been published and you can grab a copy now.

Here is a sample of the rhymes they showed to make me want to read the book:

Some samples of the sinister stanzas:

AX HER NO QUESTIONS
Abbie's chores in the guest room were licit:
Cleaning up after Uncle John's visit.
But she wasn't alone--
Came her stepdaughter's tone:
"Mrs. Borden..." "Well, Lizzie, what is it?"

NEVER TEASE THE COOK
Pretty Penelope Plowder
Is ladylike if you don't crowd her.
Her fiancé Jack
Dropped a clam down her back--
Don't ask what she put in the chowder.

As you can see, it's a quick read. It'd be a great present for another mystery lover. There's even a special section on Sherlock Holmes. You might even enjoy reading it yourself. Give it a try!

Weird, Wacky. Wonderful. I'll be looking for more work from Dixie J. Whitted. I enjoyed this immensely.
Thank you to NetGalley and Ms Whitted for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

My thanks to Netgalley and publishers BooksGoSocial for an opportunity to read and review this book. It is great and very irreverent but great humour and something to take on an overnight stay beit business or pleasure. Small enough not to exceed your luggage allowance but superb to unwind with at the end of the day or over a solitary dinner.. The author has a social conscience that does shone through and is true unlike the sincerity of Flo! You'll need to read the book to catch the context.
I will be looking out for more Dixie Whitted.

This is an entertaining collection of crime-related limericks, poems and a few associated cartoons, but the most enjoyable part was the short story at the end.,"The Adventure of the Stainless Spinster." Many of the limericks were about Sherlock Holmes or Lizzie Borden as was the short story, with Holmes solving the Lizzie Borden murder mystery. This is a quick read but needs to be read a little at a time since many of the limericks and poems are very similar especially when they are just about Lizzie Borden or Sherlock Holmes. This appears to be a recent collection, but the feel and content appears fairly old, with a sense of the humor of the early 1960s.

I enjoyed the humorous crime-related poetry that makes up the bulk of the book. I was not expecting the funny Sherlock Holmes and Lizzie Borden poems to segue into a series Sherlock Holmes story where he discusses the facts in the Lizzie Borden case.

While I also enjoyed this story, I'm not at all certain that the two made for good bookfellows.

These were pretty funny! I had no idea what to expect when I read the blurb for it and requested a download, but found it pretty funny!

I really wanted to like this more than I did. I love all things mystery, whether fiction or true crime. While this book was cute, none of the poems really went in depth and only the bonus material actually gave us more than a glance into any of the crimes discussed. That being said, anyone who enjoys funny limericks and mysteries will get some enjoyment out of this book. I did enjoy it, I just longed for longer poems that told the story, not just one limerick on any given crime. I really enjoyed the section on Sherlock Holmes as there were so many of the poems that only made sense if you've read the stories. Despite the topic, these are actually pretty clean (no swearing or sexual descriptions), although I'd still save them for the older kids as they do involve details of murder.

I would like to thank the publisher, author, and Netgalley for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Laugh til you cry with this crazy collection of crime rhymes!

Witted’s Crime Rhymes: From Bad to Verse is a repository for some of the most amusing crime poems around. All are funny, and most are in limerick style. Interspersed with the poems are illustrations depicting favoured scenes from the poems. There are three main groupings of poems. Lethal, Little Limericks, followed by Holmes, Sweet Holmes, and finishing up with Lizzie Borden. The latter two groups are pretty self-explanatory. Piles of poems referencing Sherlock, or the infamous Lizzie Borden. The first, Lethal Limerick, dealt with a whole mess of different crimes, from burglary to murder. After the poems there’s a brief short story, The Adventure of the Stainless Spinster, that pits Sherlock against Lizzie Borden. If you love poetry, mysteries, or crime stories, be sure to check out!

***Many thanks to Netgalley and , for providing an egalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This book was fun to read. Not everything was "funny: but I got the jest of it. It was fast and easy to read, and something good to read. The humor was all crime related, which is what attracted me to the book in the first place. I was not disappointed. Fun and humorous book, a great way to spend an afternoon.

Some of these are creative and fun.
Relying on a rhyme and a pun,
But poems so devious,
Quickly get tedious,
And I was glad to finally get done.

Plus, I love it when I can use the an author’s very own words when I review them:

“A writer of humorous verse
To his friends was considered a curse.
His penultimate pun
Was an ode-ious one,
So his last vehicle was a hearse.”

*groan*

Thanks to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for a copy in return for an honest review.

Do you like limericks? Puns? Then you are in luck! Dixie J. Whitted has written over 120 limericks and punny poems dealing with crimes of all sorts. She also has chapters with Sherlock Holmes and Lizzie Borden and a very strange combination of the two. It is like opening a can of Pringles, it is hard to stop with just one!

The author delivered countless, entertaining limericks. The ones you can safely put in print. An eclectic assortment that ran from soup to nuts. There were many times I caught myself laughing out loud. Just what I had asked for. Switching gears, Dixie Whitted closed up shop in grand style with alarming wit directed at noted sleuth Sherlock Holmes and murderess Lizzie Borden.

Enjoyed the limericks from Ms. Whitted. Laughed out loud I did, I admitted. Whenever she spoke, I expected a joke. Meant limerick, I submitted.

My thanks to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for this ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.
