A very interesting book. Informative, well-written and clear, and sometimes slightly amusing (at other times, rather dry...).

Informative and insightful, this is at times humorous and always interesting. A good read for women from ages 15-100. The Wonder Down Under explores a myriad of information regarding the female reproductive system and in a way that keeps you engrossed. The opposite of what a textbook would do. The synopsis calls it "more than a user manual" and that is the truth.

The book to read if you're a woman. Or a man, for that matter. I have an entire book case dedicated to book on sexuality and I will need to add this to my physical bookcase. It deserves to be touched rather than just read as an ebook.

The Wonder Down Under is a book I wish I had access to when I was much younger, yet still find use for today. It is a medical book that contains answers to the questions women have about their nether regions. This is a big deal because, if you are a woman reading this then you are already aware, but there isn’t much information out there on what happens down there and what constitutes “normal.” Sex-ed hardly covers it and the internet is full of so much misinformation, if you look anything up you can convince yourself you have cancer (you probably don’t).

Brochmann and Dahl exude confidence in their writing and provide the perfect mix of scientific fact and professional opinion intermixed with humor. While this book covers essential information on such varied topics as various cervical mucous states, what happens during an abortion, and the effects of douching, it does leave out one major topic, and that is pregnancy and childbirth. They reason this away, stating that this topic has been covered by many others, but I would go one step further, and request the authors consider writing a sequel to dispel the numerous misnomers when it comes to that part of some women’s lives. So clearly, I recommend this book highly, so much so that I would keep reading on various topics if it were only an option.

To leave you with just a taste of knowledge you might gain from partaking in this book: Your cherry doesn’t actually pop. The hymen can even heal and grow back. Now, go forth with your new found knowledge, and pick up this book immediately!

I received a copy from the publisher and have to say I was pretty impressed with all the info it. This is a book that should be required reading for all young women. I am always dismayed at the ignorance of young women I've heard over the years....The only thing missing was that I was sorry there wasn't a section on menopause! I am finding too many women in their 40's who are shocked to realize that menopause marks the end of childbearing! How are we failing to educate our young women??? Too many women think they have years and years and years to have children only to find themselves hitting menopause in their 30's and 40's. But this book is a start. I'm hoping a part 2 is in the works.
This would make a great gift for a "new woman."
The fact that I received this book from the publisher has not colored my review in any way, it is my fair and honest opinion.

The Wonder Down Under is a comprehensive guide to a miraculous and complex part of the body that too few of us (regardless of gender) are all that familiar with--the vagina. With wisdom, humor, and scientific aplomb, medical students and sex educators Nina Brochmann and Ellen Støkken Dahl take readers on a fascinating journey of female sexual organs and sexual health--from the clitoris to contraception to cervical cancer.

More than a user's manual, this book is the demystification and tribute to the vagina that we have been waiting for. The Wonder Down Under is filled with astonishing, important, and little-known information--relayed with both medical expertise and genuine empathy. Did you know, for instance, that female and male sex organs are merely variations on the same basic structure? Or that there's no such thing as a virginity test--because a broken hymen is not a meaningful indicator of whether or not someone's had sex?

Brochmann and Dahl have written a tour-de-force about the biology, anatomy, and reality of the female body, stopping along the way to explain how misinformation and silence about the vagina have been harmful to women over time. The Wonder Down Under makes crucial contributions to the discussion: the book was an instant bestseller that sold out in its native Norway in just three days. Since then it has been acquired by publishers in more than two dozen countries around the world.

The Wonder Down Under is a joyful and indispensable book that will educate readers of all kinds and equip a new generation to make informed choices about their sexual health and happiness.

The wonder down under goes over a lot of facts and information about the vagina. The book I think was written really well also, the way it was written made it a lot easier to read it was not like a boring medical textbook.

This book definitely has a lot of information that women will find useful and enlightening and it is organized in a really easy to navigate way. I was disappointed though by the amount of misinformation and the fact that "alternative" choice were barely explored and when they were they were very quickly dimissed despite the fact that evidence does support many of them as very viable options. This was particularly an issue for me in the contraceptive section and the discussion about HPV. Overall there is a lot of good information to be found in this book, but also a few big misses. Even with those misses, most women will benefit a lot from reading this.

I thought this book was wonderful! I have a small daughter who I definitely want to buy a copy of this book for and save to give her when she is a teen. The information is great and presented in a conversational and fun way. I learned so much from this book even as a 30 year old women! Just great. Every person with female sex organs should read this book!

I love this book. It covers a wide range of topics, devoting enough time and depth to actually teach the reader something, but not get bogged down by too much science speak. It's very readable, witty, and informative!
