The 1st and last quarters of the book take place in New Guinea with great descriptions of the jungle. The middle half of the book takes place in the USA as Case goes to visit his former Delta Force “brothers” . It’s interesting to see how their previous jobs have shaped them into who they are and how much they love and depend on each other. They support one another in a jungle rescue with great risk. Was hard to put this book down! I received an advance copy of this book from the author via Net Galley in exchange for an unbiased review.

My second read from author Vince Milam. Full of military and spycraft, my kind of book and, like the first book it doesn’t disappoint. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018)

Case Lee is called in when a huge amount of gold is found in New Guinea. Many adventures, close calls and general mayhem ensue. A delightful read!

The genre is badly overdone by new and not so new authors these days - the "hero" who has almost superhuman skills is thrown into a jungle or an island or some circumstance and has to rescue the girl, save the world, yada yada.
Vince Milam takes the formula and makes you forget about it. He is a realistic writer of fantastical situations, and you believe them - you accept them - ultimately you end up living them.
I have no idea if this story or others like it will survive even one full generation - but I'm delighted that it's here now for my own reading pleasure. Vince Milam is one of those authors whose name immediately attracts my attention.

Well, this book didn't work out like I hoped for me. It gets confusing, lots of flashing back in confusion. It does show war. The romance was okay. The military part is where this book is the strongest. It's not the best, nor the worst I've read in its genre.

My copy came from Net Galley. My thoughts and opinions are my own. This review is left of my own free volition.

This was a most satisfactory read, with a good, brooding feel. Unaddressed injustice can be a deeply corrosive thing. It seems we do need heroes, in this action packed, deeply engrossing novel by Vince Milan..

A roller coaster ride - lots of action, twists & turns. Case Lee and the other characters are well developed. The storyline holds your interest. It is a very hard to put down story - you always need to know what happens next. Very exciting & highly recommended.

I'm giving this book a solid four star. The reason I'm not giving it a five star because a couple of times I felt the flow of the story was a bit off. But that might be only my own reaction.
All things considered the book is well worth reading.
The author did a great job in describing the various characters and their interactions with each other. The sort of camaraderie that exist with people that have served together in combat situations and completely trust their lives in the hands of each other. In some cases the characters are a bit over the top but still realistic enough that the story is believable.
It also shows the different approach that has been taken between the four friend trying to adjust back to a normal everyday live.
The descriptions of Papua New Guinea scenery, local characters and Natives gives the reader a very visual picture without overdoing it.

The Case Lee adventure continues as Case is contracted to investigate an alleged gold strike in the jungles of New Guinea. He makes new friends and enemies as he checks out the local town and the different mining camps. As he leaves the jungles he encounters an old acquaintance, and through her discovers that he has been working for the American CIA. Despite his revulsion at being played, he is eventually forced to return to New Guinea with a team of his Delta Force buddies to rescue his CIA acquaintance who has been kidnaped by the Russians. The main characters are developed in detail and provide a colorful selection of weird. The plot is somewhat predictable, but the action is described in clear and compelling terms. It's worth reading the book again to revisit the many colorful characters. This book stands out in a genre that is overpopulated.

What Price Gold?

In his second novel, Case is sent to New Guinea by his employer to assess a reported gold discovery. Several sites have been claimed by the Brits, Russia, China, and the Indonesians, and Case soon finds that some participants will go to any means to protect their site. If this means deception and murder, so be it. There is also the matter of the local tribes who are ready to protect their territory. Add to that mix a female CIA agent, Abbie Rice, who Case is attracted to, but isn’t really available, and you have an adventure you will eagerly keep on reading until the end.

Vice Milam’s ability to describe details (but never overdoes it) brings the story to life, and you soon find yourself engrossed so deeply that you can almost feel the tropical sweat building. As he did in the first Case Lee novel, the author builds on the friendship of Case with his Delta buddies and shows his compassion and unwillingness to kill. But Case is a force to be reckoned with when people’s lives are in danger. All he really wants to do is to get back to his quiet life on his boat, The Ace of Spades, and spend time with his family and friends.

This is an exceptional well written action novel. The characters are all completely different and engaging. The writing style was refreshing and absolutely spellbinding. Case, Catch, and Bo are exceptional heroes in a world in need of heroes. A brotherhood connected by honor and integrity. Rare qualities indeed. Fabulous adventure! Let's take a trip in the jungles of New Guinea and rescue Abbi

An action packed thriller that was fun to read. It starts out in New Guinea as ex-delta force Case was hired to scope out the players in the crazy gold rush happening way out in the middle of nowhere in New Guinea. I thought his trek was entertaining and so descriptive I could imagine I was there too. After scoping out the players in the woods he then ends up in "town" to finish his report for "this easy job". Of course that is when Case figures out something is up. Case finishes this job (or so he thinks) and goes to visit his Delta force buddies. I loved Case's buddies and a few of the others he meets along the way . They all were a total hoot. But Case ends up drawn back to New Guinea and ending the book with a bang. I loved how descriptive the places and the characters were that I could easily image it all. Just a great book that kept me entertained.

Retired Delta Force operator Case Lee lives by the rule that good should be nurtured and protected; evil should be “taken out with the garbage”. He is not a man you want to cross. In author Vince Milam’s newest Case Lee thriller, The New Guinea Job, we see Lee, and Milam, at the top of their game. It’s an on-the-edge-of your seat adventure with spies, jungle heat, head hunters, gold fever, memorable supporting characters, and enough double dealing to make your eyes cross. Yet, Milam doesn’t resort to the cheap shots when it comes to Case Lee’s character. He is humanly faceted, much more than a well-armed super-hero. Case Lee hurts, loves, grieves, and ponders the cosmic questions of all men of substance. But make no mistake. When it’s time to take care of business, one thing is for sure: Case Lee and his blood brothers from Delta Force WILL get the job done. The New Guinea Job is a great read. Immensely enjoyable. Action packed from the very first page. Normally that alone would get me to love it. However there is a big part of the book that has nothing to do with New Guinea. The time is spent with Delta Force friends. That is not a bad thing but seemed too much time spent establishing the closeness of the guys. The New Guinea story starts and ends the book. I enjoyed the intrigue and action that those parts of the book offered.

A Case Lee adventure with a well written fast moving storyline and well developed characters. Contains a great cast of characters, an excellent location, and plenty of action. A book that was hard to put down and was a very enjoyable read. I would highly recommend this book to family and friends.

This is an action-packed story of a former Delta Force operator and his closest brothers whose lives became melded during battle. Each live their own lives but are always ready to help one another if needed. Case does investigating jobs found on the dark web, using his experience and craftiness to make good money working for others. The new case finds him in New Guinea, checking out groups there seeking a new found 'gold' area.
During this he becomes very aware that there are Russians,Chinese and others involved, and when a CIA agent meets him in the village, he realizes that some other 'game' is being played.
When Case feels threatened, he calls to his brothers, and with military force they try to find out what is going on,as the CIA agent is kidnapped, and the head of Defense asks for help in getting her back.
An interesting look into how different people use their experiences to live, and how it effects the people in their lives. A great adventure through different countries , with the bond formed in the fight for America's safety highlighted by Case,Bo,and Catch.
Excellent book for those who like books by Brad Thor or Tom Clancy. I received the ARC of this story from author Vince Milam, Netgalley and publisher Kindle Press , enabling my reading of this story and ability to produce my honest review, for which I thank them.

When a mysterious client asks former Delta Force operator Case Lee to investigate a massive New Guinea gold discovery, the job quickly unravels into an incredible world of spies, terrorists, and tribal headhunters. Case—with a sense he’s being played—walks away from the entire mess. Until life-threatening events pull him back in. This time, he’s not taking any prisoners.

A murdered wife. A bounty on his head. Case lives an isolated life on the Ace of Spades, an old wooden cruiser plying the waters of the Intracoastal Waterway from Virginia to Florida. His only friends are a collection of former Delta Force teammates spread across the globe. And an enigmatic broker of clandestine information, Jules of the Clubhouse.

Case wants out. But bounty hunters and spies and shadowed players keep pulling him back in. And discover his special skills. Very special skills.

My thoughts:
This is the third time I've ever read anything by this author, the first two times where when I picked up the first two books in his series (Challenged World ) which I loved, now I found out his wrote a different series and I love it just as much as the first series, it pulled me into the story and had me hooked, thinks Netgalley and to Mr Milam for giving me a chance at reading and review his new book in change for my honest opinion.
