Title: Theophany

Author: Vern S Polythress

Format: Chapters detailing the different ways God has appeared in physical form throughout history

What I liked: The diagrams. They really made the point clear. I also like how thorough he was, although I wish more time had been spent explaining some of the theophanies.

What I didn't like: Some parts felt rushed. Also, the book was heavy on the "what" and a bit lacking on the "why" sometimes.

I learned a lot and have found opportunities to share some of this information, but the unwieldiness means this book is probably better as a reference to skim than a book to read through.

I've enjoyed looking at God from the theophany's that he uses. It's a book I will continue to refer to.
The first section speaks of theophany's throughout the Bible, the second deals with theophany's in the Old Testament and the last of theophany's in the New Testament.
I received this book from the publisher for the purpose of review.

I love this book. I am an old testament lover and this book has not disappointed. In fact, now I want to do a series looking at all the times that God's appearance takes place before appearing in Jesus Christ. I love that we serve a God who has always made Himself known to us, because He wants us to know Him.. So at moments throughout the Old Testament, He does something special because He can and because He wants us to know Him. I love those moments whether it is Isaiah or Moses, or even the Prophets when God shows up, they freak out. I love it. And His Glory is way too much because of our sinful state, but because He is just Holy as well. I think pastors need to read this book and share these resources with its people so that we have a better grasp on the heart and character of God. It would only make our church families deeper in their faith. I love this book...so glad I read it.
