High Stick is a SEXY read. The characters were really well written & the story was strong & very entertaining.

This was the third book in Nashville Sound series & they have all been fantastic. They can be read as stand alone stories. Merry & Jarrett were a hot & sassy couple & their love story was a blast to read.

The book started off cute but then I found that Jarrett's character just became annoying. At first he was okay, but then when they went out for dinner his "rules" just became too much. He's impressed she keeps her purse zippered? He's pleased when she doesn't order a glass of wine with dinner because she'll be driving? The incredible straight and narrow rules that he follows made him a very difficult character to relate to. Honestly I couldn't see anyone being with him and being happy as they would likely always feel that they weren't living up to his standards. I get why the author made his character so morally strong given Merry's background, but still...this took it to the extreme and made it impossible to relate to the the character.

And don't even get me started on Merry's name...come on! Merry Sweet???? Could the author really not come up with a better name?

I've read one other story by this author and I wasn't impressed by that book either so I'm beginning to think this author just isn't for me.

High Stick is book 3 of a 4 book series, Nashville Sound. It could stand alone, but I have enjoyed the progression of the series and the interactions of the characters from book to book. If you like hockey romances, like those of Toni Aleo, Alicia Hunter Pace would be a good author to explore. Her stories are entertaining, her characters layered and her settings and pacing first rate. High Stick involves the setting of expectations, the realities of life and an entertaining romance. I recommend the series.

This book is the third in the story line and has a different take on everything. Jarrett MacPherson is always wanting and trying to do the right thing. He does not want any controversy or bad publicity going his way, he is so clean he even has Disney as one of the companies he endorses. He meets Merry Sweets who is a hard working young woman and who is also putting herself through college. When you get into the story I found myself drawn to the character of Merry who made a choice to do something and because of that lost her scholarship, her job, and her dignity having to tell her parents. She is now working to achieve her goal of becoming a lawyer and is almost there. As there romance heats up and pictures appear of the two of them someone shows the picture of her from a few years ago. Now when he sees the picture of her being topless he becomes a bona fide a-hole. One of those people who says he has never done anything wrong when he has. She sticks up for herself after getting fired from another job. But yet it is okay for men to take off their shirts for calendars, but if woman do it, it is wrong the double standard is pathetic. I will let you the reader figure out want happens at the ends there are a few twists that help the story along. I really like the Merry, character I am not so pleased with Jarrett but I understand the story, but also know that there are people out there that have this double standard. Overall I liked the book and you get some update with some of the characters from the other books. A good book.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC from Netgalley.

I understand why the H was nicknamed "The Saint." I can say that I've never met a man who was so "perfect" and found it a little off putting. No one is that wonderful and at the climax of the story I was not surprised at what he did. My best analogy is that he was too smug. Yeah, that's it. I just found him irritating. The h, however, was strong and hardworking and yes, fallible, like all of us. He didn't deserve her, but he did come around.....finally.

The wasn't a bad book. In fact, I'll enjoy reading more books by this author. I just wasn't thrilled with the H who thought everything and everyone should be perfect. That's a broad generalization, but hopefully you get my drift.

I love hockey and romance and High Stick was the perfect mix of the two, Alicia Hunter Pace is a new author to me and after reading this book I’m struggling to understand why I haven’t come across her series the Nashville Sound before this book, I will be going back to read the previous two books.
Jarrett otherwise know as “The Saint” is a Nashville Sound forward and as his nickname suggests he prides himself on doing the right thing, he is also desperate to fall in love and have what his parents had the perfect marriage, the perfect family in a perfect life and when he meets Merry Sweet he quickly realises that she is his perfect woman, the attraction is instant and the chemistry is sizzling but will Merry Sweet’s past come back to haunt her and what will Jarrett do when he finally realises we don’t all live in a perfect world and we are not all perfect people.....
I loved this couple and this story and I found myself wishing for a HEA for them, I loved how Jarrett was in love with being in love and how his love for Merry was instant, how he wanted to take it slow with her in fact I loved everything about him. This book was beautifully written and it can be read as a stand-alone and I know this because it’s my first Alicia Hunter Pace read but it won’t be my last because I need more from the boys of the Nashville Sound so I’m off to one click books 1 and 2.

This hockey love story is very interesting, a little bit different read. Jarret and Merry meet on the wedding, where Jarret helps Merry to keep her job. Jarret is a little bit different from the normal men, he has a different way of thinking and acting and also seeing things. Merry although the daughter of a preacher is far away from being a saint and she is hiding a terrible secret which of course when it comes out ruins everything. From the start, Merry tries to explain Jarret that she is no saint but Jarret is so wrapped up in his mind that he doesn't want to see her differently. Whit help from friends who open his eyes he makes a really big gesture and wins his girl back.

I received this arc from Netgalley for an honest review.
Jarret, a hockey player from the Nashville sound is looking for the perfect woman. When he meets what he thinks is the perfect woman he quickly falls in love with her. He puts her on such a high pedicle that when it turns out that she isn't perfect, that nobody is perfect, he walks away from the woman he loves. Will he realize his mistake or be alone forever? Good quick read albeit a bit predictable, but a good read.

This is the third book in the series, and I honestly think that this is it for me..We meet the so called Saint, Jarrett and I think he is too judgmental for my liking, people make mistakes, no one is perfect apparently he thinks he is one of them and I have to tell you that that is the reason why I personally did not like him, he was too sanctimonious for me. Merry, oh poor girl, she was the preachers daughter so you know all eyes are on you and she did make mistakes, who wouldn't in that position..I think she deserves someone better than Jarrett. so no I don't recommend. and I am getting off of this train.

A hockey romance that takes you on a journey with two young adults as they navigate relationships, careers, and the ultimate quest for love.

I absolutely love this series and Jarrett’s book does not disappoint. Jarrett is a rule follower and has his sights on finding the perfect woman to marry and start a family. He is instantly attracted to Merry, a fellow rule follower. Merry has a secret in her past and never found the perfect time to share it with Jarrett. When Jarrett finds out without Merry telling him Jarrett is ready to walk away, but his heart isn’t. Jarrett learns a hard lesson, no one is perfect. Jarrett and Merry are great together, they compliment each their so well. High Stick was full of fun, romance and heartache. It was so hard to put down once I started it. What a great addition to the Nashville Sound series, I can’t wait for more!

This was a difficult book to review for me. I had really mixed emotions about the characters in the book and some of their actions.

I did feel like Pace did a good job in not judging or shaming Merry for her "mistake" that she made when she was young, however, Jarrett's inability to be opened minded really made me think he was a jackass.

I don't want to give away Merry's sin but on a scale of one to 10 it was maybe a 2.5 in today's world. Jarrett was called "The Saint" but he had none of the true character of a saint. He saw people the way he wanted to and not the way their were. When Merry didn't live up to the paragon of virtue that he felt she had to be to be worthy of him, his response disappointed me. I do feel like he gained maturity and character by the end of the book but I wouldn't have blamed Merry if she would have cut him out of her life.

I would only recommend this book if you are reading the series and do not want to miss any, however, I do not plan on ever re-reading it.

This story was way too predictable from the first chapter. Our hero, Jarrett, was too needy with completely unrealistic expectations from relationships. Our heroine, Merry, knew she should have been honest and chose not to be.

While there were moments of fun and flirty dialogue, I never felt invested in either main character. Their resolution at the end of the story was rushed and unrealistic.

Overall, it was a disappointing read.

I absolutely love my hockey romance books and this is another one of them that I loved right from the blurb to the very last page of the book. The author has done such a fantastic job with this series and all the stories in the books. They are impossible to put down and I didn’t want it to end either. Super excited for more from this author and series in the future. Loved the storyline, the characters and everything in this book and I would absolutely recommend this book and series to everyone

Jarrett, The Saint, is a follower of rules. Living a life that follows society’s dictates gives him contentment. The only wrinkle in his well-ordered life is the lack of a woman to love, to dance with, to bear his children, to be his perfect partner in a perfect life. When he meets Merry he quickly realizes that what he thought he would never find is actually standing right before him. She is everything he has ever dreamed of and she is…perfect.

Merry is struggling to make ends meet. With student loans and another semester of law school and all its costs looming ahead she works any and every job she can find. Raised in the south by conservative parents, her father a Baptist preacher, she strives to uphold the morale standards they taught her. When she finds herself in a bit of a spot working a wedding reception, she is rescued by Jarrett and swept up into a metaphorical carriage ride that will vanish at the stroke of midnight.

This couple were so endearing. Jarrett with his oft not understood humor and his desire for all things good and wholesome was absolutely adorable, as well as his habit of rambling a bit at times. But his patience in waiting for that first kiss, much less anything more, gave credence to his desire for a lifelong relationship with the heroine.

Merry was a tad insecure having led a life of constantly moving to the next new church, new town, new school and never having time to solidify friendships. She was hesitant to believe Jarrett could want her for any true length of time. But when she opened herself up to hope, it was a beautiful thing.

This was a wonderfully well written book that dragged just a tad in spots. It definitely had a bit of a slow burn to it but once the fuse was lit this couple’s chemistry exploded across the page. However, the true gem of this story was what Jarrett does to win back his lady. I felt myself choking up over such an amazing thing.

This can be read as a standalone although it does contain scenes with the couple’s from the previous books. I highly recommend any of them.

This is an honest review of an advanced copy provided by NetGalley and Adams Media.
