Outwardly, a scorned PI dedicated to embarrassing cheaters might not sound like the best backdrop for a love triangle. But Rachel Van Dyken provides a fun, funny, sweet and sexy read while successfully launching the first in her Liars, Inc. series.

When Jessie Beckett left Blaire to pursue his NFL career, she tried to move on but ended up marrying a cheating douche canoe she soon divorced and now firm, dedicated to catch and humiliate cheaters in the act, has been hired to investigate none other than Jessie. A difficult task given the fact that she never got over him. But his best friend Colin is willing to help, sort of. Mostly he’s been flirting with her from the moment they met while she was spying on Jessie in Colin’s hotel. She’s got sweet history with one and an incredible attraction with the other and now she has to decide.

Rachel Van Dyken’s effervescence shines through in fun, sassy and witty dialogue which is nicely balanced with the swoony moments full of emotion. The story has many share-tastic bits yet the plot is also rife with twists and turns that, if shared, would zap all the enjoyment out of the read. I can mention though that the tale is told from various points of view and that Jessie, Colin and Blaire are charming characters that easily made me smile and laugh. It was an unputdownable book which I’ve read several times since it landed on my eReader.

Dirty Exes is book #1 of the Liars Inc. series by Rachel Van Dyken. It is standalone contemporary romance told by several points of view with a happy ending.

Dirty Exes is an easy, fun read! The story line has good characters, some fun twists, a bit of angst and just the right amount of hot romance and it certainly didn’t end the way I first expected. It is a romance triangle that keeps you guessing.
I hope you take the time to read this next hit by Rachel Van Dyken!

Blaire has been cheated on and burned by her exes so she and her friend, Isla, started a very successful business helping others who have had the same problem. Little did she know that it would be a past love she was investigating, but enter his best friend, Colin, and the story take a fun turn. She struggles with her feelings of never being enough and Colin, the playboy, has his feet pulled out from under him when he realizes that he doesn’t want any other women, just Blaire. He has also broken the bro code and is trying to figure out how to tell Jessie, his best friend and Blaire’s ex boyfriend, that he wants her.
Jessie has been dealing with trying to get out of a broken marriage that his wife simply won’t let go of. She has accused him of cheating and that is why Blaire is back in his life.

This book is different in the style of writing from what I’m used to by Rachel van Dyken. I’ve read a lot of her books and they’ve been mostly 5 Star reads.
This book...not so much. It didn’t hold my attention. I really wanted it too, but struggled for most of the book. The love triangle and both guys weren’t my favorite. The obsession with an Ex that was only Blaine’s bf for three weeks was a bit much. I don’t think I’ll read book two in this series, even if it gives Isla her happy ending.

I received a copy of this eBook from the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.

Whew, when they say hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, they were talking about Blaire. She's angry, hurt, and ready to take on the world of dirty cheaters. Male, female, it doesn't matter. If they cheat, then she exposes them on Facebook Live for the world to see. When her job forces her to cross paths with the ex that got away, she gets a little confused. Jessie is secretive, concious of public opinion, and aware that he let something good get away in Blaire. Add in Colin, Jessie's brash, cocky, and alpha best friend, and Blaire is in a world of trouble.

I have to say I absolutely loved the banter between Colin and Blaire and was immediately rooting for him to win her heart. I found Jessie to be a little bit whiney and annoying to be honest. I wanted to slap him silly and tell him to grow the f up. And then I wanted to shake Blaire when she was so focused on him. The love triangle between the three, while annoying, was entertaining to watch. The chemistry between Blaire and the one she chooses is explosive. And there's just tons of sexual tension (as well as other tension!) between the two. And the secondary characters are just as great. I absolutely love Isla.

I loved seeing Blaire recover from her heartache and watch her grow as a woman. There was a lot of depth to her character--she had both strengths and weaknesses on full display. Watching her take a chance on love again was gratifying. Add in a bit of intrigue and drama, and I was completely hooked. Like all of Rachel Van Dyken's stories, this one was both sweet and spicy with just enough heat to make me want to fan myself.

If you're looking for a story that'll make you sit on the edge of your seat and just maybe choose sides, this is the one for you. Van Dyken doesn't disappoint.

Another Hail Mary for RVD!! She did an awesome job on this book. It was unlike all her others in that it definitely did read like a screenplay. I'll admit that at first I was put off, however I trekked on and read it. It had been sitting on my kindle since probably February and I finally dived into the deep end and found that my favorite character was Beckett!! I loved Blaire but Jessie Beckett was my ultimate fan fave. Throw in Colin and Isla and you round out this witty romance that has you wondering who's gonna fall for whom? If you've already seen that there is a book coming out in October...then this will come as no surprise!! More Beckett! I'm looking forward to his book. If you haven't seen - Isla and Beckett are getting a book. These two books kind of remind me of Fraternize and Infraction and I loved those two. Again, I really think this is a wonderful addition to RVD resume.💜💜

Blaire loves to catch cheaters red handed. In fact, she has a business centered around that very thing. But, when her newest case involves the one that got away, Blaire is about to embark on a job that is about to get very personal...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Blaire has been burned with every one of her past relationships. Since her failed marriage, where she found her husband cheating, she just hasn’t been able to bounce back. Forming her company that catches cheaters in the act, she has found a way to help women get answers and even revenge on the men they suspect are cheating on them.
When Blaire sees Jessie again, she is reminded of the relationship that she never got over, all her old feelings come rushing back... which might just be the worst possible scenario...
Jessie Beckett is an ex NFL Star, who married the wrong person, and he has been paying for it ever sense. In the midst of a divorce, when he sees Blaire again he immediately wants the relationship he once had with her back.
Colin is Jessie's best friend, hoping to help him get through this rough patch in his life. But, when he meets Blaire, she is someone who makes him want things that he hasn’t felt in a long time. He could see himself falling for her, if only it wasn’t for the bro code and the fact that Jessie was there first...
This book kept me guessing with a love triangle represented by a past Blaire always imagined going farther than it did and a present that is full of possibilities...
I really enjoyed this story, featuring the authors usual brand of entertaining characters, and fantastic groups of friends that you fall in love with. The love triangle was a little hard for me to get on board with, and when it played out, who ended up with who. But all in all this was a delightful read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
Dirty Exes wasn’t at all what I expected but it was absolutely hilarious! Blaire is quirky with a little sass. She had a rough past when it came to relationships and she was struggling to find her way. Unable to trust the way she used to. Her experiences made her more relatable and I must say I loved her occupation. Especially her friendship with Isla. I wasn’t quite sure how Rachel Van Dyken was going to twist Blaire’s situation. I thought there would have been more drama based on the circumstances. That the situation would be more sticky but it was more of a nonissue in the end. I’m glad things worked out the way they did. However, the ending seemed a little rushed and it was somewhat predictable but I enjoyed the story otherwise.
Dirty Exes by Rachel Van Dyken
Reviewer: Chelsea
Rating: 4.5 stars!!
I have loved almost all of Rachel’s books so I was super pumped to get this new books on my kindle!! I really loved the premise of this book! I was super happy with the new world Rachel created and how it tied into the Matchmakers series!!
Blaire lost who she thought was her great love only to have him back in her life and intermixing with her job as a PI finding cheaters. Now she has to rationalize what she’s been told about her long lost love with what she knew. Only to make matter complicated she finds herself attracted to his best friend!
Colin has been friends with Jesse, Blaire’s ex, for decades. Now he has to keep a secret from him when he starts to fall for Blaire! He is also related to Jesses wife, though he wishes he wasn’t.
I loved this cute yet steamy read and can’t wait for the next book!! I was a little disappointed with Jesse in the end. The way he treats Isla after he basically puts it past them only to bring it back up and make her pay later. Also the fact that he doesn’t even treat Blaire badly and she was one digging up the dirt on him!! I’m interested to see how Rachel can make him redeemable for his asshole actions.
Nevertheless I truly loved this book!! I want more from this couple! I wanted more in the epilogue too but I hope we will see them a lot in the next book!
One-Click approved!!
Blaire and her partner, Ilsa, have created a PI business where they follow, catch, and expose cheaters. They both have history with the subject and are using their skills to help people get revenge on their cheating partners.
But their newest case becomes all kind of complicated when a woman hires them to prove her husband is cheating. And the man in question happens to be Blaire's ex and her "one that got away". So not only does she have to deal with seeing him for the first time in years, but now she has to go into stalking mode. And Jessie is just happy to see a friendly face from his past so is wanting to reconnect.
Making matters even more interesting is his charming, rich, tatted, long-haired best friend, Colin. He is all about casual flings and no entanglements, but something about Blaire makes her hard to forget. He is happy to help her, and is tempted to go after her himself.
Blaire is a bit awkward, insecure, untrusting, and always feels like the girl left behind. Jessie is the ex NFL star with the good boy image and seemingly perfect married life, but could have secrets. And Colin is playboy who is usually never serious about women even as they are dropping at his feet. And Ilsa is just trying to keep everything together and run interference as needed. And we cannot forget the client who started it all.
There are secrets, ommissions, lies, and questions. Is there really cheating going on? Who can you trust? And as the group gets more caught up in the situation and the secrets keep compounding, someone is bound to end up hurt or angry. It is a powderkeg waiting to blow up and casualties could be high.
This is a stand alone spin off of The Matchmaker's Playbook as Blaire is Ian Hunter's sister. It also starts its own series that will continue with Ilsa's story, Dangerous Exes. This is funny, quirky, sexy, angsty, and full of little surprises. But it also has some good messages about acceptance, self love, and forgiveness.
I was gifted a copy.
Let me just start with that this book was NOTHING that I expected it to be. There was just a lot going on and soooooo much shade being thrown around. After reading some of the reviews, I gotta say that I definitely enjoyed this one. I was expecting a second chance romance, which I absolutely love, but that as you delve more into the story, you learn that, that’s not the case at all. It had elements of a love triangle, but it wasn’t really that either. I have a feeling writing this review may come across very confusing because writing this without any spoilers seems impossible, but I’ll do my best.
Guess what, everyone? Ian has a sister, for all you The Matchmaker’s Playbook fans out there. And her name is Blaire and one of the owners to Liars, Inc. , where their job is to catch cheaters in the act and reveal them, publicly … on the dreaded Facebook. This kind of business is not my cup of tea, but to each their own. Looking at their potential clients, one she wasn’t expecting was her ex, now retired NFL player, the one that walked away without a second glance. The past comes storming back into her life bringing back all her insecurities and “what ifs”. As she starts her “work”, stumbling into his best friend, Colin, was something that she could definitely use to her advantage in more ways than one 😉 And he seems to be more than willing, I guess anything to stay in the presence of Blaire. Blaire has lost love to a man who loved football more and another to her best friend. Trust doesn’t come to her easily, so who will be the one to gain it, completely?
And that about sums up this book as lightly as possible and I’m sure you’re wondering if this is a love triangle. There were moments when I thought it was, but sorta is-ish? Shoot, even I’m a bit unsure. As far as other love triangle books go, this one is nothing like it.
Trusting men is something that Blaire struggles with a lot. With the ex who left to pursue his dream without a second thought and a cheating ex, can you blame her? To me, this book was truly about Blaire and getting over what she’s been through in the past with her exes and discovering and diving into something new with someone else, Colin. Having to spy on Jessie (the ex/football player) really opened her eyes to his true self, parts of himself he rarely shows anyone. Jessie wasn’t exactly my favorite person in this story, it’s evident that once they see each other for the first time in years, it brings back a lot of things. And they can’t help, but wonder. But I didn’t hate Jessie, at least by the end I didn’t, he really just married the wrong person for the wrong reasons and found himself in a really unhappy place. He’s a people pleaser, making sure everyone else was happy except himself. Now he wants a divorce because the woman he married has turned into someone he no longer loves.
And we have Colin, the man you’ll all adore! Once he met Blaire, it was game over and he’d do anything to spend time with her. Even teaming up with her as she tries to bust his friend for possibly cheating. Their little duo was the best and I loved their banter, it was hilarious. And you’ll just be rooting for this duo from the very beginning. But Colin has some vulnerabilities of his own, he found love once and was never able to pursue another relationship since. But there was something about Blaire that wanted him to possibly try again.
So, we’ve got three characters weaving an unbelievably tangled web, I’m sure you can figure out how complicated this all seems. But I loved every bit of this story and the whole time I was just curious to see how it was going to end. There’s definitely a happy ever after, maybe a little betrayal, thoughts going astray into territories that it should never go, and some punches were thrown. See, like I said, a tad bit messy and complicated, but still such a fun and sweet read in the end.
This was definitely some way to write a story, Rachel and I loved it very much. It’s pretty easy to guess who the next book will be about and I’m eagerly waiting for it! I’ve been seeing a lot of things about the fact that Blaire fell in love so quickly when she was dating Jessie. I make no judgments on how long it takes to fall in love with someone. I found my happily ever after in such a short time as well, so all I have to say is that you never know.
Brava, Rachel!
***4.5 stars***
Dirty Exes by Rachel Van Dyken brings a whole new aspect to the romance world, I'm talking a game changer!
Blair is fed up with those who are unfaithful, she's decided to bring them all down. With her fierce partner Isla by her side they are set and ready to make the cheaters pay! All you have to do is call Dirty Exes.
Dirty Exes is the first book in the Liars, Inc. series. This novel is told in three point of views.
First we have Blair who Co-Owns Dirty Exes. Blair and her friend Isla founded Dirty Exes after they both, on the same night, caught their men cheating. That night they came up with a plan and an instant friendship was set in stone. No cheaters shall be left unexposed. I loved Blair and her quirkiness. Throughout this novel I only had one thought in my head, I wanted this woman to find the strong never ending type love, if there was ever a character who deserves it more than all, it would be Blaire.
Next we have Jessie. He's an ex-NFL player and suspect to be a potential cheater. When Dirty Exes get a call from a hollywood socialite who suspects her husband is being unfaithful, Blair and Isla agree to accept the mission. However, When digging for information on said culprit, Blaire runs into a snag. The man in question is none other than her former flame and 'the who one who got away'. Conflict of Interest...? I think so.
Last point of view is Mr. Billionaire himself Colin! Colin is the best friend of former NFL player Jessie. He's also the brother to Jessie's wife Vanessa... He has the perfect bad boy image with the playboy attitude to match. When Colin catches Blair in the middle of her spy session, her feels an instant connection with her. But that connection may only be one-sided after he learns his best friend has already called dibs... a long time ago.
Dirty Exes was so much fun to read! I loved the concept of this whole novel. The characters were written well with the type of chemistry that is undeniable. Lets not forget, All the amazing DRAMA! I couldn't get enough!
Throughout the novel, there was a thought constantly going on in my head... Who is Blair going to end up with? I loved the fact that I had no clue who she was going to end up with until the very moment it happened! I loved the element of surprise, and the fact that she chose my favorite guy was a happy bonus!
I cannot wait to see what Rachel Van Dyken has up her sleeve next!
Okay, true confession, I read the end of the book before starting it. Now before you start throwing stones at me, I swore off love triangles after my Twilight and Hunger Games days because I always, ALWAYS, without fail, ship the wrong man. EVERY TIME, and then it breaks my heart when the happily-ever after is not the happily-ever after I wanted.
So I spoiled the book for myself but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the hell out of reading it! As always, Rachel is such a dynamic author, and one of my favorite things about her and the 30+ books of hers I have read is that she ties in back stories. There are always surprise characters and references that, if you are a die-hard fan like myself, you will recognize and smile. Now the synopsis and cover, I was 100% hooked.
As I started to read the story, the charisma and charm of the story captivated me. What a fun read, scorned women getting revenge by exposing exes?! Hilarity ensued and Rachel artfully balanced it with plenty of swoon and heart-felt moments. Now I won't ruin the story but I will say how everything panned out left me with a big cheesy grin on my face. It was just a feel good read, it's not going to weigh heavy on my mind or heart but a read that left me smiling and anxiously awaiting the next book. Classic RVD.
Blaire is the owner of a PI firm that investigates cheaters. She ends up surprised when she runs into her ex Jessie, the guy who broke her heart. She also meets his sexy bad boy friend Colin. I loved the interaction between the characters in this story. A wonderful read.
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.
2 "It Was Ok" Stars
Sadly, this story or theme just didn't work for me.
The characters didn't really hold my interest, apart from Colin, but even he wasn't enough to satisfy me. The concept seemed a little immature and just didn't hold my interest. I found myself skipping over pages and even the ending wasn't enough of a reward for my perseverance.
This won't be a series that I will continue with I'm afraid.
I have a feeling that I will love the second book a lot more than I liked this one. For one, we won't have a sort of love triangle and the main characters have already proved that they have more chemistry than we could possibly need. Isa's guy is going to be the party that was left behind on the love triangle and you can find who that is by reading the blurb for the second book. Why would someone spoil a book (aka dirty exes) before it was even released it's beyond me. At least I knew who to root for, because none of Blaire's choices was good enough for me. Jessie is married and a little blunt and Collin is even worse. He falls on all stereotypes a playboy like him could fall and in some part of this book he is like "Blaire will never be with me and I ain't good enough for her" and he slept with both twins after that thought. How am I supposed to root for either of them? Well, I didn't and that's why the book will get three stars from me. I would have gone with 4, but the lack of a good hero messed things up. Both options were bad. The only time I liked the man Blaire ended up with was in the epilogue. The epilogue also held the most romantic scene that made me a little softer while writing this review. Blaire and Isa were two of the strongest parts of the book.
4.5 She Was Mine Stars!
The Dirty Exes is the first book in the Liars, Inc. series, and it centers around Blaire who is the sister of Ian Hunter from The Matchmaker's Playbook. Blaire lives in LA, and doesn't have the best track record with men. She met a gorgeous guy named Jessie Beckett who she dated for three weeks before it all ended. He was traded to Pittsburgh to play football, and chose his career over her. Then she rebounded into a marriage that ended in disaster. The only good thing to come out of all her man troubles was meeting her best friend and business partner Isla. They bonded over both being women scorned and started Dirty Exes Private Investigators where they make it their mission to serve justice to cheaters. They get proof for their high profile clients.
Blaire is stunned when she learns her latest job is to uncover dirt on her ex Jessie Beckett. He's the one guy she compares all others to. Her game changer. She thought she'd once been in love with him, and he was the most delicious man she'd ever met. He'd become the fantasy of her perfect man, and suddenly that image is shattered when she suspects he could be a cheater.
Jessie is a retired NFL quarterback going through some personal stuff in the public eye when he runs into a blast from the past. His love life was a mess, but he couldn't help the feelings he still felt at the sight of Blaire.
As Blaire is doing her job to expose Jessie she meets his best friend Colin. She's never reacted so strongly to a stranger. He's a distraction she doesn't need, but she can't help being drawn to him. He's got a man bun, tattoos, and looks a bit like Tarzan. He complicates everything when she finds herself stuck between wanting the one that got away, and his playboy best friend.
Both men want Blaire, and become jealous of the other. One looks like the all american good guy, and one the typical bad boy. Blaire battles her feelings with her insecurities, and doing what's right. One man wants a date with the only woman to hold his attention, and the other wants a second chance. Blaire wants one of them more than she's ever wanted anything in her life, & she can't walk away. They give in to desire and the connection between them, but will Blaire get her heart broken, or finally find lasting love?
I really loved this book! It was my first by Rachel Van Dyken, and I couldn't put it down. It's about an attractive, independent, successful woman who risks her heart for the most beautiful love, and learns to trust again. This book is a love triangle, but not the kind that tears you up inside. I adored both of these wonderful men, but was thrilled with the outcome. The story has many twists and turns, tons of humor, and plenty of heat. I can't wait to read the next book in the series, and more by this amazing author!
Can I just say that RVD is like fine wine...her stories get better and better with time. She's one of my go-to authors when I'm stuck in a book slump and she's never disappointed me. Ever.
Dirty Exes is the first in the Liar's Inc. series and it was catchy, swoon-worthy, and, in RVD fashion, entertaining as hell.
"You're more likely to accidentally shank a guy than to sleep with him. The Blaire I used to know would always get herself into impossible and sometimes violent situations."
"Hey!" She thrust that giant purse at me again. "It's not my fault that I attract the negative from the universe."
When we first meet Blairs she's in a...well....stinky situation and it quickly becomes clear that she tends to find herself there often. She works with her now best friend as a PI in the cheating business and things are going well for them. I liked Blaire's character immediately. She's honest and personable in a way that "normal" people can relate to.
When a blast from the past enters her life, she starts to worry and wonder about everything that could have happened back then and what's really happening now. I don't want to spoil anything, but when I thought I had the plot line figured out, RVD threw me a curve ball and omg what a curveball it was!!! I wasn't digging it at first, but then I was swept up in all things romance with these characters and by the end I could not throw my heart at them fast enough.
"...keep looking at me like that and you won't get a story."
"Sorry."
"Don't ever apologize for eye-fu*king, it's rude."
RVD has a way with words and it definitely shows in Dirty Exes because you'll be laughing your hind-end off one minute and then falling head over heels the next. You get a montage of emotions and a few POV's that make this book even more exciting because it made me even more ready for book two!!!
Overall, I loved this book. It was light, funny, and endearing in all the right ways. I can't wait for more of this series!
This was a fun read with some angst and a bit of drama. It’s got the love triangle feel to it which I’m not a fan of, thus some of the angst on my part. However, I’ve read other love triangles by this author and they are pretty easy to work through unless you like a really deep, deep love triangle. I actually loved the way this one worked itself out. This has the typical Van Dyken humor which was perfect and characters that I fell in love with and curious to see what’s going to happen next with them.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
