Seems like the author is just saying the same thing over and over. How many ways can a person say that it shouldn't matter if other people like you if you are doing what God wants you to do? I could barely finish this book and won't be recommending it to others.

The author shares her struggles with approval addiction and the many ways it can be manifested. She uses truth found in God's word to remind us that our aim is to find our approval in God rather than men, and that there's nothing we have to do because we are already approved by God. She encourages us to remind ourselves of God's truth about us and look in the Bible for encouragement and help in letting go of needing and seeking the approval of others.

I liked that she kept pointing to scripture to find answers and help for our struggles. I was reminded again and again of Jesus' own life demonstration of choosing God's approval over man's approval. I thought it had some good things I can apply to my own life.

This book reads a little bit like an autobiography on the author's addiction to pleasing people. If you are a natural leader who constantly worries about what other people think, this book would be a great help to you! I didn't think it was a good fit for me because I am more of an introvert and couldn't really relate to the author's type A personality.

The main competitor for this book is Approval Addiction by Joyce Myers. Joyce's book is more overly scriptural and, dare I say it, middle-class, whereas this is a friendly and conversational book from an ordinary woman from 'down the street'. I found it instantly relatable and quietly truthful and got through it in a day. Like many books of its type there's not a lot of how-to advice - I would reccomend Renewing the mind with NLP by Hall and Bodenhammer for that. I find that a lot of time thinking through the implications of scripture is necessary for approval addicts and some hard choices about whether Gods approval is more important than mans is necessary. Nevertheless, this book is a good primer and honest and accessibile.
