Wood letters are here to stay: no matter the current design trends, there will never be outdated to hang a letter, or more, on a closet, in the kitchen or in the children´s room. Krista Aasen, the creative mind behind the Happie Housie blog, selected in this book 35 suggestions that can be developped alone or together, as a family project.
The projects cover a variety of styles and degree of complexity, but overall, everything can be done at first, without any previous experience in the field. There are clear and simple directions and suggestions about the materials to be used - not many of them, therefore no worries about a significant financial investment, fun will prevail.
From chalkboard projects to pearl beads and golden imprints, shells (my favorites), faux succulents or photo collages, there is too much to be done with wood letters. The book has only 35 suggestions therefore you can find even more if you are really getting slowly into it. I can see myself spending at least one afternoon manufacturing some of them, adding more wordliness to my home and channeling my creative flow. Can´t wait!

This likable book is full of ideas for using the big wooden letters you can buy in craft stores and homeware shops.
There are simple ideas such as covering them with photos or glitter, ways of making fabulously personal gifts (I liked the music idea especially) and even some pretty way-out ones like using moss or string art.
These are fun projects, suitable for all levels of craft skill and with clear instructions- although, as Aasen says herself, you can just use the book to springboard your own creativity.
And I’ve already done that. I was inspired to create my own craft project using letters- thanks for the inspiration.
Thank you to NetGalley and Ten Speed Press for the digital review copy of this book.

Decorating your home with letter is currently a hot trend. This book looks at ways to take a plane store bought letter and make it fabulous. The letters can be purchased from local craft stores, or even big box stores. How you decorate them is all in what you are willing to take on. This book shows projects from simple (such as various painting methods) to more complicated like twig covered and gold leaf. I do like the finish projects in this book but so many just seem to be cut the letter out of various papers and glue it on. Or faux paint. Etc.

I never really understood the appeal of decorating with letters, so I requested this book hoping to get what the trend was about. This book delivered on that front for sure. I may not be yearning to post letters around my house, but I can definitely look at the wood and metal letters in the craft store with appreciation now. I might even be tempted to try a few of the templates given in this book, so I think that makes me a convert. I liked the simplicity of some of the letter designs, as well as the ease of making them. They even have themes that are accessible, and make use of my wide collection of shells. If you also wonder in craft stores like me, this book may give you insight or inspiration for a new element of home design. I definitely recommend it.

Letters seem to be all in vogue a present, and they do give a nice touch to a room. This book lets you go beyond the simple painted letter or word. Well illustrated and simple to follow, this book shows how to add a personal touch to the alphabet. Some of the ideas are really quite innovative, I particularly like the photo collage and the drift wood effect, and for a bit of bling, the pearl effect looks stunning. I book that lets you say many things in many creative ways.

This is such a fun book. When I first requested it from NetGalley I wondered what one could do with wooden letters…maybe paint them, stain them and put them on a bookcase. Well, Ms. Ausen gives the reader 35 ways to use those letters in creative and fun ways.

She gives a materials list and detailed instructions for completing the projects. Along with those, she gives tips when needed. She tells you where she bought her supplies including online retailers. Each project is unique. Children will enjoy helping and many could be made with supplies one might have on hand. Twigs and plastic drinking straws and ribbons are just some of the materials used to create these fun letters.

If you are looking for a way to add some color and design that is unique to you into a craft project, I recommend Creative Wood Letters

I received a free copy of the book from NetGalley and Ten Speed Press in exchange for my honest review. Thank you.

I love craft books, especially ones that involve DIY decorating and am always looking for fun and easy projects to do. This book has an array of styles to decorate wooden letters, broken down from easy paint effects to natural materials and on. I saw several I'm itching to try out, and some techniques that could easily be taken from wooden letters to bigger projects.

The ebook itself is well-formatted, I can easily read the words and see the photos, and I didn't see any overly confusing instructions. I'd recommend this for any library and can imagine that patrons would greatly enjoy it.
