Crochet Kaleidoscope: Shifting Shapes and Shades Across 100 Motifs by Sandra Eng is a great resource for anyone who likes to crochet. The patterns are well written and easy to follow, whether you prefer written step by step instructions or a chart. In addition to the over 100 patterns in a variety of shapes including circles, squares, hexagons and triangles, there is helpful information about color theory. For many of the motifs shown in the book, there are two samples, usually in very different color palettes to inspire the reader to go beyond their comfort zone with color.

This is an excellent book for a beginner to get the basics of crochet as well as it contains many patterns for even those a bit more advanced. For those who struggle to find colors that compliment each other well, there is quite a bit of information on color suggestions and color theory so that the reader can choose for themselves as to how advanced they want to go. Each pattern the book contains comes with a color picture as well as a crochet diagram and written instructions. Most books I've found do not go this far in depth to help the reader understand the pattern. This one is nearly fool-proof.

Thank you F+W Media and Interweave for this ARC copy via NetGalley.

Crochet Kaleidoscope: Shifting Shapes and Shades Across 100 Motifs by Sandra Eng offers a twist on crocheted motifs as you shift through various shapes and color combinations. From the traditional granny square to more complex forms, these faceted motifs are the building blocks to creating unique and stunning designs. Along with a collection of 100 fresh motifs, this book includes a complete guide to choosing yarn colors, what order to put them in, and how many to include. Plus, get five home decor and accessory patterns including a table runner, pillow, and rug from crochet designer and author Sandra Eng. You can shift shapes and shades to make the perfect piece for your home.

Crochet Kaleidoscope: Shifting Shapes and Shades Across 100 Motifs is a well organized and encouraging collection of ideas and instruction. It is not a great book for novices and those that need the basics thoroughly explained, but I think some beginners that are comfortable with the terminology and willing to try new things will be fine. I will admit that I am not one for working in motifs, mainly because I hate sewing the pieces together in order to get the final product, whether it be a cool jacket, sweater, afghan, or something else entirely. I prefer one piece or join as you go motifs, so my skill set here was lacking. However, some of the information shared I had a good understanding of, like color choices, but I found the instruction and encouragement to try new or different things through out the book to be very well put together and worded. The suggested colors and notes included with each motif were helpful, and I think will help make newcomers and those more cautious about color combinations and color order comfortable until they are ready to strike out and try something more unexpected or unique. I really liked the projects that were included toward the end, and I just might give the Mod Flower Shawl or Zinnia Table Runner a go, since they can be join as you go projects, and could also work as a stash or scrap buster- both of which I really need to do. The stitch key and glossary at the end of the book is also helpful for explaining stitches or terms that readers might not be fully comfortable or familiar with. The measurement conversion chart and the additional resources ware also helpful.

Color and crochet motifs go together like peanut butter and jelly. However, it's often challenging to visualize how different color combinations can transform a motif.

In Crochet Kaleidoscope, Eng provides clear photos of 100 motifs and explores how they look with different choices. After learning basic color theory, you can find answers to common questions from "how many colors are too many?" to "does order matter?"

Included are several home decor and accessory projects to help you begin your color journey. All motifs include both written instructions and stitch diagrams.

This is a fabulous book with a hundred different motifs to work. The motifs are charted and have written instructions as well making them easily accessible to all crocheters. The most important part of the book is the discussion of yarn colors. Using a color wheel to blend colors in a motif. Sandra Eng uses her professional incites as a psychologist to explain how to use colors to get a certain effect from your work. This book is a beautiful work of art. There are five patterns for projects using the motif. The book is a serious inspiration and a must for any crocheter's collection.

I have to say pattern designer Sandra Eng is a wonderful fiber artist and I love her creativity. She says she has a passion for geometry and it is apparent in her work. I was familiar with her crochet through her Instagram account so when I saw that Crochet Kaleidoscope: Shifting Shapes and Shades Across 100 Motifs was available for request through NetGalley, I jumped at the chance.
This pattern book is for the advanced beginner and on. I feel like there are plenty of motif patterns here to get your crochet muse going. Just browsing through this book made me want to grab my hook and yarn.

I loved the presentation throughout. The pictures are vivid and the patterns are written clearly. The designer discusses color combinations and shares ideas for colors that will compliment each other.

There are patterns for 100 motifs here, circles, squares, hexagons, triangles and other shapes. Included in the book are also patterns for five projects you can create using the motifs throughout.

I worked up a sample square and found that the pattern was easy to follow and well written. This is definitely a pattern book that you can keep dipping in and out of. A new favorite!

This is a wonderful resource with beautiful motifs using a variety of stitches and shapes. You will find wonderful use of color and stitch choice and placement to create texture in the designs. One standout feature is the use of two examples in motifs to show how differing color choice affects appearance. The directions include both written stitch counts and graphs to make it accessible regardless of your personal preference. If I had any complaint, I would have liked more explanation of and examples pulled from the color wheel.

This would make a perfect edition to your craft library for those that love crochet, yarn, color, or all three.

I love to crochet. As a beginner/intermediate level 'hooker" I am always looking for clearly written patterns that I can learn from. This book is great! There are plenty of patterns for circles, squares and projects, all clearly written out and illustrated with graphs. There is a glossary of stitches and terms, so if you are unsure of what is being asked, help is there! I've sampled a few patterns so far, and haven't had any problems. In fact, following a graph has always been a problem for me, but with this book, I've been able to decipher them and work strictly with the graph. Thank you, Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book, and many thanks to Sandra Eng! I will definitely recommend it to all my crochet groups and friends!

Each pattern is shown complete with a colour photograph, along with a detailed crochet diagram and row by row instructions that look easy to follow.

Included is a glossary, which explains the diagrams, stitches and abbreviations alongside a list of the wools used and their colours.

Definitely worth a read for the experienced crocheter who is looking to make something different.

This book is a collection of patterns for different shapes of crocheted "squares", that can be put together for many different projects, like afghans, clothing, tablecloths, etc. The patterns are clearly written and easy to follow. I, myself, made a couple of them and they were so easy to do. There are patterns for newbies and for experienced crocheters. The pictures are also good and help in being able to follow the pattern with a visual guide. It is a great book for those who like to make these shapes and be a little crazy! Fun book!

I was so thrilled to receive a review copy of this book- i’m an avid crocheter, and loved the colorful, modern- vintage look the cover of this book depicted.
Unfortunately though, I couldn’t download it onto the one device I have available, my kindle. I’m so bummed!
Thank you so much for the opportunity though!
