Another addictive and well developed book. I was hooked from the beginning. It took me on a roller coaster of emotions. The characters, plot, and their struggles were brought to life. I found the story interesting and it flowed well. There was no difficulty getting through the book.

Blood Veil is a great vampire PNR. It’s book 2 in the Mission series but can easily be read as a standalone. Celia is a loner and works as a nurse. She has one close friend. A colleague Monica and her sick son Charlie. Celia is unaware that she’s half vampire cause her father gave her away at birth. Idris and his older brother and King of their clan Athan finds about Celia and wants to use her to prevent war. Idris has to watch Celia and collect her. They both find an immediate connection between them. Blood Veil definitely has its moments. Especially Idris doing anything in his power to protect Celia. Also why is it so sexy when a vampire feeds?? Celia discovers that and so much more. It’s a quick read and despite its obvious plot devices I enjoyed it.

It's so nice when the second book in a series is satisfying.

This was similar in voice to Blood Guard, but with different characterization and a somewhat slower pace. I enjoyed Celia, and found Idris much less annoying from within his own head (as opposed to the outside view of him in the first book). His lack of understanding of human food/drink was particularly amusing.

Also, kudos to Ms. Erickson on the sensitive mental illness rep.

This was a fast-paced, interesting read, that I found I did not want to put down! The story is fresh, original and exciting with characters that are realistic and likable. An excellent follow up to the first!

I was really looking forward to reading Blood Veil as I really enjoyed the first book. While it was an overall enjoyable story, I didn't find it to be particularly memorable. I was not a huge fan of how quickly the couple fell in love. The world continued to remain interesting, however, and Megan always writes good chemistry between her couples. Overall, I recommend this series for fans looking for some lighter paranormal reads.

I received a free copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review/opinion.

3.5 stars — It’s been so long since I read the first one that I actually went back and speed-read it before reading this one. While it does say in the blurb that you don’t need to read the first, I feel like you’d be missing out if you didn’t. I think I still liked Athan and Tendra’s story better, but not by a huge degree.

I will admit it took me a bit longer to warm up to Idris. He was so steeped in vengeance that it was hard to get a read on him. He was so impulsive and hot-headed, and I was worried about how he and Celia were going to connect. But I think I was already falling for him when he went to talk to Roxy about the heating pad…like seriously, adorable. I loved how Celia brought out some of the softer sides of him, and that you could really feel how much he cared for her. I was a bit bummed with how the meet with her father went…I wanted Idris to make some different choices. But what can you do?

Celia was a lot easier to fall for, even if she was closed off and had her heart walled up. You couldn’t really blame her, and I just felt for how she grew up. I appreciated that as she knew NOTHING about vampires and that world, she wasn’t some badass heroine. She was terrified, and a bit fragile…but with strength at her core to at least do what she could to help Idris out and stand up for herself. I will admit to being a little disappointed that we never got any background from Celia’s father about what happened there…or like, only the barest amount. Basically I was left with some minor unanswered questions.

Although it took a bit longer for the connection to establish, once Celia and Idris connected, I definitely felt the chemistry. As always, the steam in this series is extreme. Super enjoyable (at least for me), just fairly racy. I know their feelings established pretty quickly, but I’m always able to buy that moreso when the characters are in these extreme situations.

I’m still holding out hope we’ll get a bonus Zeb story. I feel like there is room for more in the series, though as far as I can tell this is the end of it. Not a whole lot of other major secondary characters in this one, but Amelia was pretty easy to like. And I enjoyed Charlie.

Even though I’m half a year late, I still was reading my ARC copy, and as with book 1, there were quite a few continuity errors in addition to the usual typos. I sincerely hope those were resolved before publication, b/c I find that stuff irksome. 😛 But I’m also unfairly picky.

So yeah. I’m finding I really love Ms. Erickson’s paranormal stories…she writes really intriguing takes on the usual supernatural creatures.

Blood Veil is the latest book in a new vampire series by Megan Erickson. The stakes are high in this epic battle between good and evil vampire clans; namely, the fate of the human race. What will it be? Peaceful co-existence or enslavement?

Celia Valerie is a nurse in Mission City. Being a product of the foster care system leaves her feeling disjointed, unable to connect with others, and struggling to fit in. She feels most fulfilled when she is helping others. Targeted for death and thrust into a world she never envisioned, will she find her destiny?

Idris Gregorie was raised by his father to be king. When he learns that his father lied to him and betrayed him his entire life, he becomes set on revenge. Celia becomes his instrument to make that revenge a reality.

I received an ARC and did not read the first book in the series. Normally I like to read all the books in a series but I don’t think it made a difference. This was an enjoyable read by an author moving into the genre of paranormal. I recommend it and look forward to checking out her other work.

I have loved EVERYTHING I have ever read by this author. So when I had trouble really getting into this one, I kept putting it aside thinking I just needed all the book world drama to subside or to get myself in the mood to read it. It's been a couple months now and I do not feel compelled to pick it back up. Unfortunately, I think this one just didn't work for me.

Blood Veil by Megan Erickson
Book Two of the Mission series
Publisher: Loveswept
Publication Date: April 3, 2018
Rating: 4 stars
Source: eARC from NetGalley

Summary (from Goodreads):

In the midst of supernatural chaos, worlds and hearts collide.

Celia: Having never known my parents, I’ve always felt like an orphan. All I want is a normal life. But after I’m attacked in my bedroom by one vampire—and rescued by another—it’s about time to give up on “normal” once and for all. Idris, the second in command of the Gregorie vampire clan, has come to my aid, but his motives for saving me are unclear. And what surprises me most is my attraction to his heated gaze. . . .

Idris: Terror. Curiosity. Arousal. These are the natural impulses of a human female, not the spawn of the ruthless Valarian king. Is it possible that Celia is unaware of her bloodline—and the power coursing through her veins? As the daughter of my archenemy, she was supposed to be my ransom. But how quickly the heat of desire changes everything. Now the family Celia has always craved is trying to kill her, and it’s up to me to save her again—when all I really want to do is make her mine.

What I Liked:

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I'm kind of excited about vampires being "in" again. Ten years ago (or more than that), everyone was sick and tired of vampires and werewolves and all that - myself included. But I'm ready for more vampire novels, especially in romance! Thank goodness there is a great author behind this series. I already love Erickson's books, and this series has been going really well for me.

This is the second book in the Mission series, and a companion to the first book. Idris, the younger Gregorie brother, is bent on revenge. He plans to use the Valarian king's daughter as a pawn in his plan to take out the king. But Athan (the Gregorie king and Idris's older brother) wants the Valarian princess safe and unharmed while negotiations are in place. Unfortunately for Celia (who doesn't even know that vampires exist, let alone that she's half-vampire), life is not turning out the way she thought. One minute she's sleeping, the next minute there is a creature in her bathroom. She is almost killed by one supernatural being, only to be rescued by another. Idris thought he could use Celia in his schemes, but he didn't expect to fall for her.

I felt so bad for Idris in Blood Guard, with everything that he had to deal with, and all the changes that came about towards the end of that book. Idris is a complicated guy with a lot of loneliness and a loss of purpose. He is honing in on revenge because his purpose is gone. But while Idris is a strategic mastermind and a man set on the course of revenge, he is also very loyal and protective. He wants more in life but he is also stalled, and doesn't know where to go. He's a good guy, despite his armor and stony facade.

I adored Celia, and maybe for reasons that others might not like her. She is a nurse, a kind soul, a gentle person who cares with her whole heart and is so sweet. She is a selfless, giving woman, and I loved that her gentleness was a perfect foil to Idris's hardness. Celia is NOT weak, but she has a quiet strength. She isn't some sort of kickbutt warrior queen - but she is strong in other ways. Her strength is in her selflessness and her good heart.

As a pair, Idris and Celia really worked. It took some time for each of them to trust each other - which makes sense, since Idris saved Celia's life and then took her away from her home (for her safety of course - but still). Celia was scared and cautious at first, but she began to trust him with every time he saved her life, and every time he showed his softer sides. And Idris... Idris spent his entire life being lonely, not having that sense of connection and love with anyone. Both of them have a lot of caution when it comes to loving someone else, and both of them fit the other really well. There was a slow build of trust and a slow build of feelings, but the chemistry was always there. I didn't see Stockholm Syndrome in this romance.

As always, Erickson wrote some great chemistry and tension, and this book was fairly steamy! Her books are always spot-on when it comes to chemistry, so I expected no less.

This novel isn't just a romance - there is a lot of vampire politics in play. Athan is very present in this book, what with him being Gregorie king and all, and Celia being the Valarian king's daughter (and a very important piece to a puzzle that Idris is trying to understand). We also get to see Tendra (Athan's queen), though less so than Athan. Politics are very important in this book, and certain events take the series even further than Blood Guard. I'm curious to see how the overall plot (the vampire politics and wars and peace settlements with humans) will shake out.

I hope there will be a book three! I don't know who the protagonist would be, but I can hope.

What I Did Not Like:

I can't really think of anything specific at the moment. I enjoyed this book!

Would I Recommend It:

If you like adult paranormal romance, this is a great series to read! I was wanting to read a vampire romance novel last year and lo and behold, Erickson had Blood Guard ready to be published. That book and Blood Veil are excellent! Very steamy, very intriguing paranormal romance novels.

Rating:

4 stars. I really hope there will be a book three! Erickson cannot stop the series here! While each book is a companion novel following a different pair of characters, the overall plot connects the books, and I want to see where things will go. Keep writing, Megan!

An amazing addition to the series! Idris and Celia's chemistry is off the charts! I love how they move from hunter/prey to lovers. That their love developed despite all the obstacles.

This Gregorie clan is definitely growing on me. The continued world building and character development is excellent. I loved how Blood Veil really is a story of family, friendship, vengeance and love. And I hope there is more to this excellent Mission series.

If you are a fan of vampire books you might want to check this one out. First off you can also read this as a stand alone book, so ignore the book 2 part if you wish. Overall I would say this book was a light read and was typical of the shorter romance/erotic type books. The author does give you some good back story and I never felt bored in long stretches of the book. I can say the female lead (Celia) can have moments that she is very annoying, but I think the author was trying to go for the whole helpless female role. If you are into the sex stuff you wont be disappointed. I guess what I am basically saying is check out the book if you want a light fun read and enjoy vampire books.

3.75 - A Deliciously Fast-Paced and Thrilling Paranormal Romance

I started Blood Veil by Megan Erickson back in April and was instantly glued to the pages. I absolutely wanted to devour this in one sitting, but I had other things to deal with so I had to set this aside for a while. When I finally got into reading it again yesterday, I could not stop. I was utterly addicted and had the best time!

Blood Veil by is a fast-paced and thrilling paranormal vampire romance that completely consumed me. Since I didn’t read the first book, there were information I knew I was missing, but never felt lost or confused. The world building was deliciously chilling and undeniably fascinating, so I cannot wait to read more and bite into Blood Guard really soon... I really want to know Athan and Tendra's story -- they just seem so darn cute together. The plot, while a bit off, rushed and even forced at times, was action packed, exciting, and with the unknown dangers and unexpected twists, there wasn't a single dull moment. There were plenty of edge of your seat action scenes, heartfelt moments, and spine tingling swoons.

Idris positively charmed his way into my heart. He was broody, reckless, and complicated, but he was also very loyal, sweet and protective. He’s definitely my kind of book boyfriend hero. Celia didn’t win me over right away. I just found her annoyingly weepy in the beginning and that made it a little challenging for me to connect with her. That being said, I didn’t completely dislike Celia. I admired that she was smart, hard-working, selfless, caring and at times even brave. By the end of the story, I actually warmed up to her and I’m so glad she turned out to be a strong heroine.

So there was insta-love and while some parts were steamy and swoony, I wasn’t really crazy about it. I really wanted that angst and push and pull… To feel that inner emotional struggle, the intense longing and the FEELS. Sadly, I just didn’t get much of that. I read how they felt and there’s no denying that they were irresistibly attracted to each other, but I just didn’t FEEL IT as much as I wanted. Having said that, I still liked the romance and it was still fun. I thought Idris and Celia were adorable together and there were some wickedly sexy scenes between them.

Overall, Blood Veil was a light, fun and easy read. Although some parts felt weird and a bit off, I still really enjoyed the storyline and rooted for the characters to have their happy endings. This book didn’t blow my mind away, but I had an incredibly great time exploring this dark and exciting supernatural world filled with danger, warring vampire clans, and mysteries. It kept me positively entertained, on edge, and completely hooked. If there’s ever going to be a Book #3, I’d definitely sign up in a heartbeat.

I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher Loveswept via Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book is angsty and a little scary at times. It also is full of sexy chemistry between the 2 main characters.
The H is intense and the h takes a minute, but finally diacovers a spine of steel.
This is a m/m romance.

I have been dying for a great paranormal read in so, so long!!! And I can say that this series has definitely made me a very happy girl. I loved this sequel, the plot was innovative, fresh and just brilliant. I can't wait for many more books in this series but also anything else that Megan Erickson writes.

I had no experience with this author and so took a flyer on this book. I’m so glad I did. The characters were interesting, the plotting was good and the writing was of excellent quality. I ‘ll definitely be checking out more of Ms Erickson’s work, especially this series. I enjoyed the world she built and look forward to more. A definite recommend.
My thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an arc in exchange for my honest review.

I didn't have high expectations for this but it did surprise me. This is my first read by this author so I wasn't sure what to expect. I do love a good paranormal romance so I gave it a shot. The first 50-60% of this were amazing and on point while the remaining 50+% seemed to dwindle and fizzle out. Still an enjoyable read. 3/5

Wow! I loved this one more then the first book. I'm loving Megan Erickson, and her unique take on the Vampire romance! After reading Blood Veil I'm reminded why this is my favorite romance trope.

This was an entertaining, light read with likable characters. It’s set in a really cool and passionate vampire world and enjoyed how it all worked. I loved the first book in the series so I was really looking forward to this one. It was witty and there was decent chemistry and heat, a nice amount of drama, but it was all way to easy for me, it felt very surface. I liked it, there just wasn't a lot of depth.

I enjoyed the tension between Idris and Celia in the beginning and how they had a pull between them. I liked watching their walls come down and them come together. Everything is easily accepted. There was good humor and thought the internal dialogue was great. I like the world the author created and the dynamics involved. There's a lot happening and a lot of characters mentioned. It's very fast paced with a lot of instant want and love happening. There's a bit of drama and emotion but it's all pretty glossed over.

My takeaway away is this was a fun read. Light and easy with a lot of entertaining moments and some sexy times mixed in. If you're looking for some fast paced vampire fun that isn't too taxing, this is it.

I did not get into this book nearly as much as I did the first. I was rolling my eyes so much and so hard way too often. Yes, there were parts that I liked. But overall it was just pretty good to me. And I think that's mostly because of how the two main characters acted. I really don't like insta-love for one and this was practically Stockholm syndrome at it's best. They annoyed me a bit for most of the book, but then we got toward the end and I wanted to bang their heads into a wall. I liked Idris so much more in the last book than I did here. He was just so obsessed with revenge that he didn't listen and acted without thinking. As for Celia, at first I liked her. But then we just kept being told how perfect she was and how selfless she was and blah blah blah. Completely turned me off of her.

Idris has been watching the Valarian princess for a while now, and much like his brother, his plans in regard to her get moved ahead of schedule when his target is attacked and he has to act to save her. The two of them fight their attraction from pretty much the moment they meet. Idris because how can he desire the enemy's daughter? As for Celia, she has absolutely no idea about her heritage but what she sees when she's with Idris feels somehow right. And if she sticks with him, she might even be able to find out more about herself.

Which she does. Idris plans to disregard his brother's wishes about seeking peace with the Valarians. Instead he desire's their king's head. And his plans work out quite well...until his arrogance is the cause of his failure. Now he finds himself as well as Celia being held hostage. During which the two of them do something that seriously had me wanting to bash their heads together. Of course they manage to make their escape, only they're not alone anymore. Things go from bad to worse and Idris is forced to do something that breaks him. Lucky for him Athan shows up to save the day. Soon after, hope is sparked inside him once more and let's just say I wasn't shocked to find out that Celia was a special little snowflake.
