Very cute and funny romance! I really enjoyed the writing style and plan to read more from Maeve Greyson.

After losing her job as a pharmaceutical rep owing to an abusive ex-boyfriend, Joanna Martin is trying to successfully co-run a struggling tourist guide company with her best friend. She wants to maintain a professional façade to land a permanent contract with the local theme park Highland Life and Legends. Unfortunately, she has the hots for one of the owners. Grant MacDara, a time-travel transplant from tenth-century Scotland, is helping his brothers and parents run the park and protect the mystical Heartstone. He lost his true love and unborn child centuries ago but is finally ready to choose a new partner and that would be the feisty Joanna. Grant has old-fashioned notions about courtship and love, while Joanna is a modern woman to the core. From one absurd moment to the next, Grant and Joanna have the chemistry but not the compatibility. VERDICT Greyson (Sadie's Highlander) never quite manages to partner convincingly Joanna's tough and independent nature with Grant's need for control and outdated macho dominance. Readers willing to overlook this flaw and withstand numerous ludicrous scenarios should have plenty of fun with this steamy romance. Reviewed by Eve Stano, Indianapolis P.L. , Mar 30, 2018

Another score for Maeve Greyson! I've read all of the books in this series and each one is just as unique as the one before it. Joanna's Highlander is quirky, funny and very romantic. I recommend.

This book was almost marked as a DNF. But somehow, I found the will to finish this book. I could really get into this book like I did the other. The story pacing was slow in places. For some reason the character of Johanna through me off, I couldn’t fill the attraction between the two characters. The book had a nice history fill, so readers how love to read Historical Romances would enjoy this story, which saved this from being a two-star review.

Joanna's Highlander is the second book (as of the date of this review) of a 3 part series. Joanna and her BFF run a tourism company, and one of the stops on their tour is always the Scottish theme park Highland Life and Legends. While organizing a tour of senior citizens in the small town where the theme park and MacDara's are well known, a situation occurs with Grant MacDara. While they know each other when they meet again in the local restaurant, Joanna never wanted anything romantic to come of things due to their professional relationship however what she didn't plan for is a bus full of meddling grannies. The tour clients help to push Joanna and Grant together in many ways, even though they are each getting over previous heartache.

Like with the other books in this series, the storyline is certainly interesting, however the writing style of this author is not my favorite although I can't really put my finger on why. The book certainly has great and funny moments, however its not one that I would want to come back and read again.

Joanna’s Highlander is the second book in the Highland Protector series by Maeve Greyson. You can read this as a standalone story but I’d encourage you to read Sadie’s Highlander, book one in the series as a great introduction to the brothers and how they find themselves in modern-day America instead of 10th century Scotland!
Joanna and Grant’s budding relationship was a pleasure to read. Joanna loves Grant’s old-fashioned ways. For me, the whole story was enjoyable and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but the best part of the book was definitely how it ended! I loved the first book in the series, I loved this second book in the series, and can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Ripped from ancient Scotland to modern day Southern America, the MacDara' family are continuing their mission given to them by the gods. Here they hope to find love but it must be approved by a higher power in order to succeed. Grant can attest to that after losing his first love in the past. Now he has met Joanna. Can she accept all that living with the MacDara family will incorporate?
This is a lovely story with excellent characters. Maeve Greyson never loses sight of her characters and does a perfect job bringing an ancient Scotsman into modern America while allowing him to keep the traits and dialect that keeps him so interesting.

An excellent addition to the Highland Protectors series.
After being blacklisted in Chicago and having her heart broken, Johanna starts fresh in Brady.
grant lost everything before coming to the 21st century. He never thought he’d find love again.
After dancing around each other for a year and a half, Grant and Johanna might want to take things to the next level. But life is not without its obstacles for the both of them.
5 stars!!

First of all thanks need to be given to Random House Loveswept and Netgalley for providing us with a copy of this book so that we could bring you this review.

There is something about these midcentury Scotts in the 21st Century that I have just totally fallen in love with. They are here trying to find love and their place in the world now that they no longer live in the 10th Century. And this doesn't change at all with Grant and how he falls in love again with Joanna. He is slow to open his heart but he finally does and when he falls for a spunky woman who is giving the best group of elderly women a tour around the theme park it is amazing. Joanna is so smart and to see her turn red and be embarrassed by the things that the crazy old woman say is just so much fun. This book was not only funny but it was great to see them fall in love. I think so far this has been the better of the books in this series, but we are just on the second book so Im sure there will be more for me to love.

I give this book 5 kisses...

Happy Reading... Adri

I enjoyed this book tremendously. It’s the first book I’ve read by Maeve Greyson but I will definitely look for others. It was a nice balance of romance and humour and the love relationship was entertaining. Nicely done.
My thanks to NetGalley for providing me with an arc in exchange for my honest review.

This was a very entertaining and interesting book. It had a great blend of humor, drama, suspense, emotion and steamy romance. I was hooked from start to finish. It's a wonderful Scottish romance story. I need to check some of her other books as this one was great!

Grant MacDara second son of the MacDara clan in 900 A.D. Scotland loved a sweet beautiful girl named Leannan. He believed they were meant to be together but the sacred Heartstone had other ideas. When Grant sees his precious Leannan killed Grant can’t imagine life without her despite being thrust forward in time to the future to present day twenty-first century North Carolina. Still Grant can’t resist eyeing Joanna Martin and exchanging words with her. Joanna and Grant have a sort of flirting relationship but they do their best to avoid each other especially since both have been hurt in the past. When their affection comes roaring to life by some match making grannies is Joanna strong enough to resist their attempts without falling for the harsh with the huge chip on the shoulder Grant? Is Joanna Grant’s one and only or will modern day inconveniences not just the Heartstone judge that Joanna isn’t worthy of Grant?
After reading Ms. Maeve Greyson’s first book in the highland protector series and loving it I couldn’t resist reading this book which is second in the series. Luckily the books despite their only being two of them can stand alone because there is enough background to not really get lost. Of course to understand the relationship of the MacDara family is better understood if you read the first book. Still the book had some funny laugh out loud times with some touching family moments and the romance is pretty steamy but is well worth the tentative way the heroine and hero move around each other. You just know when they do get together it is going to be explosive.
Joanna is the kind of heroine that not only made me smile but I loved the fact that she was a real woman with curves who wasn’t afraid to stand up to the bitter rigid Grant. She could stand on her own two feet even when Grant had a way of getting under her skin. Grant was not only acerbic but just such a stick in the mud who seemed so mean to others and at times that attitude did shine through even though he tried to hide it. Still he was a lovable guy even though he had a hide time expressing himself. I just wanted to give him a big hug sit him on the couch and tell him that it’s okay to express how he really feels plus he wasn’t a bad guy and even had his likable moments too. I can’t wait to read the next in the series and will enjoy rereading this book while I wait for the next one!

I didn't like this as well as the first book in the series. No matter what Grant did to try to please her, Joanna found fault, snapped at him, and was generally unpleasant. I know there has to be tension to keep readers turning pages, but I prefer likable heroines to borderline obnoxious ones. Just an okay read for me.

Joanna's Highlander is the second book in the latest series by Maeve Greyson. This is Grant's book, who is big and gruff and sexy as sin. I have really enjoyed the set up of the story and the whole series. This story is focused soley on the couple although we do get a few fun times with the family, but I will be honest I kinda wanted a bit more interaction with the family, since book one I fell in love with them. However, I can't complain about a story that focuses solely on the romance.

The story starts off, with Grant, and see him go through a tragic loss, I will warn you the beginning of the story is EXTREMELY emotional. Then we see Grant in the present, seeing both him and his family brought forward to protect a "stone" that his family has protected. There is a woman he has been patiently waiting for....a woman that is independent and feisty and he wants to take his time with her. But as their relationship deepens, the truth about who he is and where he comes from, is a truth that he knows he needs to reveal to her, but he wonders if she will accept him and still love him after he reveals everything and if she will choose him and the love they have for each other...

This is a story I was really excited for, and I am not going to say I was super disappointed but I did feel a bit deflated, it wasn't a story I was expecting and I feel like the angst on this story was a bit more than I normally like to see. The bantering could be fun at times, but other times I found myself wanting to skim through these parts because it got to be a bit too much. Although I will say the old ladies attempt at matchmaking was HILARIOUS...I got such a kick out of them. I will say that the heroine annoyed me especially in the later half of the book, she makes a decision that I was reading it and I was like "really??!" and I could totally understand why Grant was so upset and hurt over it. Grant however, was simply a wonderful hero. He has suffered through a trauma, but I love how carefree and his teasing manner is and seeing more depth to his character in this book.

Overall I really liked the story, and the growth of inimacy between this pair was tangible and the reader will be pulled into a sexy fun romance guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.

After being forced out of her job as a successful pharmaceutical sales rep by a lying and abusive ex, Joanna is trying to start a new career with a tour company. Joanna and her foster sister Lucia need an exclusive contract with a North Carolina theme park, Highland Life and Legends. Since they got a temporary contract, Joanna has put Grant MacDara in the "look but don't touch" category. Until she had the matchmaking tour group of grannies.

Grant MacDara is a medieval highlander thrust into the twenty-first century. The woman he loved and his unborn child were taken from him. He was haunted by his lost love until he met Joanna. She is the most irresistible woman Grant has met and when he decides that he is ready to risk his heart again, he doesn't want to let her go.

When Joanna gets an offer she can't refuse from her old company will she risk Grant's love and break his heart?

Once I got to the first chapter, I was hooked. I loved the time-travel plot with the hot highlander. The characters were great. I loved Grant. I was really enjoying the book until Chapter 20 when Joanna's ex's wife visits with a job offer and a way too crazy story about what happened to the ex. I felt like I had to push through until the book was redeemed with the last chapter and epilogue.

I was also thrown by the layout of the book before chapter 1. There was a preface which explains the foundation for the series. Next was the prologue which explains the MacDara's family history. Then, was an author's note. I found the placement of the author's note threw the rhythm of the book. I will admit that I almost DNF'd this book based on the beginning of the book until I started to read chapter 1. Again, once I hit Chapter 1, I was hooked.

This was a book that I ended up loving. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

In Joanna's Highlander Maeve Greyson returns to the North Carolina hills and the MacDara clan. Grant is the brooding second son, who sixteen years before lost his betrothed and unborn child. He has been angry with the goddesses who took them forward in time. Finally he finds someone he feels he can love. Joanna Martin has had a bad time of it, with last relationships and life in general. As part owner and tour guide for Carolina Adventures, she has noticed Grant but does not wish to compromise their contract with the MacDara's Highland Life and Legends. However, love will find a way. While I throughly enjoy Maeve Greyson's books, this one is not my favorite. I prefer her storylines told with some mystery and intrigue thrown into the tale. There are two more brothets, so we will see what their stories hold.

When I first started reading this, I thought it was going to be a mythological fantasy book instead of a romance, so I actually put it down. I am glad I picked it back up, because it is a modern day romance. Much in the vein of Karen Moning's highlander series, Grant MacDara is an ancient celt Druid who was born in the 9th century. His family was selected by the goddesses to be the Protectors of the human realm. Grant has had a hard time because he was thrust into the 21st century after losing the love of his life to a bloody battle. Grant and his family are still keepers of the MacDara Clan except the clan is located in a North Carolina amusement park. The park thrusts visitors into the highland way of life. Joanna Martin is on the run from a terrible, unfair incident that caused her to lose her job and ruin her good name both personally and professionally. She and her step sister are hiding out trying to live off of a travel company whose partner is Highland Life and Legends. Of course, Grant and Joanna are put together in a professional capacity, and the spark is noticed by all. Including the ancient Druid goddesses.

This book was rough getting through and very hard for me to get behind the two main characters. I love Scottish time traveling books, or really any time traveling books, but Scottish ones seem to be popular. So with that said I had higher hopes for this book. This story set in modern times struggles with balancing the future and the past when it comes to some basic interactions. For example, some modern things they just don't get, however other advancements in society are no big deal. This all just lead to an odd read, but it is part of the back story and should be important in my eyes to keep it consistent. Another thing that was rushed was their romance and getting to know each other phase, which to me is part of the romance. Of course this allowed the author to jump right into sex scenes and maybe that was the goal. Either way I didn't feel the book was well balanced. If you want to read about sex scenes without a good back story then go for this book, otherwise pass.

Joanna’s Highlander by Maeve Greyson is a great story. The main characters are Grant and Joanna and they are well developed and work well together in the story. It is a great story and has all the normal relationship issues that develop and are resolved. It also has a bit of suspense and a few twists. It flows nicely and kept me reading well into the night. I love Scottish romance stories and this one does not disappoint. Keep up the good work Maeve Greyson and I look forward to reading more from you.
