Publisher's Description:

Present-day North Carolina sings with the passions of the Scottish Highlands as a fiery, time-traveling Celtic warrior takes a stubborn tour guide for a wild ride.

Haunted by lost love, Grant MacDara still dreams of tenth-century Scotland. Nothing can soothe his aching heart—until a sharp-tongued, redheaded beauty leads a tour of senior citizens through his family’s North Carolina theme park, Highland Life and Legends. Though she’s the polar opposite of the lass he left behind, Joanna Martin is the most irresistible woman Grant has ever met. But when he decides that she’s worth the risk of loving again, he tries so hard to hold her close that she nearly slips through his fingers.

Forced out of her job as a pharmaceutical sales rep by a conniving ex, Joanna is trying to make the best of her quiet new life. But one glimpse of Grant—who wields an ancient hammer like it’s just another appendage of his chiseled body—convinces Joanna not to give up on love. The one thing she can’t do is outrun her past as a loser magnet. And although Grant seems to be the last honorable man left on earth, this mouthwatering stud needs a crash course in twenty-first-century women before Joanna can trust him with her heart.

My Thoughts:

Maeve Greyson has delighted me again with her witty can't put down Time Travel Romance.

Joanna is in desperate straits. Force out of her very lucrative job as a pharmaceutical sales rep by a conniving ex, she is trying very hard to make the most of her new life and pay her bills, that is until she spies the total swoon worthy Scot who seems determined to make her his and control her. The one thing Joanna will not allow is being controlled.

Grant MacDara is haunted by all he left behind in 10th century Scotland. He may essentially have it much better here in 21st century North Carolina but he misses his home and all he left behind.
Imagine his surprising attraction to Joanna. She is after all a polar opposite to any woman he left behind but he finds himself determined to make her his.
I gave this newest book in Maeve Greyson's Highland Protector Series 4.75 of 5.0 stars for a very imaginative storyline and character development. The hot intimate scenes score 4.75 of 5.0 flames.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher courtesy of NetGalley to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

I'm sorry but I didn't really like this book. This is a different time travel book because Grant McDara, a medieval Highlander warrior, has been in the 21st century for years. Grant is one of the brothers that are the protectors of the Heartstone and owners of the Highland Life and Legends Park. Grant has been flirting with Joanna for a year and a half. Joanna is a co-owner of a travel agency, that takes groups into the park. Grant is convinced that Joanna is his woman. Most of the book is Joanna trying to decide whether she should trust Grant and their relationship. This is interspersed with many steamy love scenes. Sorry, I'm just not the right audience for this book.

The MacDara's are the most fearsome clan and they have been tasked with protecting the blessed Heartstone. The stone that gives hope and love to everybody living. They have mastered the weapons of old, the sword, hammer, shield, and spear, which they use to protect the stone at all costs. When under attack in tenth-century Scotland, the entire clan was whisked away to present day North Carolina with the stone, by the Goddesses. They know they have to learn to exist and thrive in this new environment to save all of humanity. They create a theme park based on Scottish legends and Highlander games.

Grant MacDara still misses his home back in Scotland and his still grieving the loss of his betrothed and his unborn child. He vows never to love again and be a pawn for the Goddesses. They didn't approve of his betrothed and their baby before, so why should he believe they would ever give him anything he ever wanted now?

Grant has had his eye on Joanna for almost two years. She runs a tour company with her sister, taking tourists to the theme park. Skittish about starting something with her after what the Goddesses have done to him, he tries to give Joanna a wide berth-even though something about her calls to him.

Joanna has been badly hurt by men in her past. She is attracted to Grant but she doesn't want to chance her tour company's demise by taking up with one of the theme park owners. She hasn't got a shiny record in the men department so she vows to stay away from the sexy Grant MacDara! Soon, attraction boils over with the help of some elderly knitting club grannies on tour of the park.

I had a fun time reading this one and there were some truly humorous times! The knitting club of grannies were especially a hoot! I also loved Joanna's nephew, Tyler, and his protectiveness of Joanna! There were some lines that had me cracking up for sure! I liked Grant and Joanna together and they sizzled as a couple! I wanted to see them both find some happiness in life. I also enjoyed how the MacDara's brought their morals and ethics into present day.

Joanna's Highlander is the second book in the Highland Protector series and I think it is a good installment. It can be read as a standalone because Maeve brings you up to speed at the beginning. I enjoyed the romance and the plot was equally entertaining! I highly recommend reading this, especially if you like reading about kilted heroes!

Joanna’s Highlander by Maeve Greyson is the first of her books that I have read. I really enjoyed reading this book. It is a bit more steamy than I normally read but that’s ok. I received an advance readers copy in exchange for an honest review.

The blurb does a wonderful job in describing this book so won’t do that. The book as time travel, second chance at love, steamy sex scenes, a magical stone, crazy old ladies, and humor. I am looking forward to reading the first book in the series and new ones as well. I recommend this book.

I received a copy of this book from NetGallery in exchange for an honest review.

This book is your typical Highlander/Druid romance. Hot, sexy Scottish men in kilts, lots of sex scenes, etc. But with one twist; they’ve been picked up from 9th-century Scotland and placed in the 21st-century North Carolina. The twist could have led for some interesting plot developments but unfortunately it fell flat. The characters were very one-noted with very little character development and the plot was a little forced and jumpy at points.

If you’re looking for a quick, steamy, beach read this would be a great book. If you’re looking for your next favourite book this isn’t the one for you.

My Thoughts

Torn from the tenth-century into the 21st some 16 years past Grant MacDara and his family have made a home for themselves in North Carolina. Their theme park, Highland Life and Legends is doing well and it seems like life has taken on a rhythm that is working for everyone but Grant.

Enter redheaded, sarcasm wielding Joanna Martin and suddenly Grant finds himself feeling things for a woman he never thought would be felt again. Joanna finds herself in the same predicament as she finally may have found a man she can trust her heart to one last time.

As the sparks fly with these two so do the misgivings dredged up by memories of past events that have scarred both Grant and Joanna, events that taught them to be wary instead of accepting their blessings and moving on.

When the MacDara family heritage seeks to include Grant once again, when a once in a lifetime opportunity falls in Joanna's lap can the tenth century male and the 21st century female see their way to stay together or will they give up to go their separate ways once more?

The only way to find out for sure is to read this couples tale sooner rather than later.

REVIEW: Grant MacDara still dreams of home – in tenth-century Scotland. His heart aches for what will never be again until a sharp-tongued, redheaded beauty leads a tour of senior citizens through his family’s North Carolina theme park, Highland Life and Legends. Though he’ll never forget his first love, Joanna Martin intrigues him like no other. Deciding that she’s worth the risk of loving again, he tries so hard to hold her close that she nearly slips through his fingers.

Forced out of her job as a pharmaceutical sales rep by a devious ex, Joanna is trying to make the best of her quiet new life as a tour guide. But it’s not as if Joanna is immune to Grant’s charms, she’s just running scared from her poor choices in the relationship game which have made her think of herself as a “loser magnet”. Although Grant seems to be the last honorable man left on earth, this mouthwatering stud needs a crash course in twenty-first-century women and Joanna is just the gal to teach him.

*** Let me say it – I LOVED this story! First of all, Joanna was escorting a bevy of senior citizen widows who I believe were reliving their youth vicariously through interference in Joanna’s love life. Having led a group of seniors once myself I need to tell you they’ll keep you hopping and find great amusement in embarrassing the hell out of you which is exactly what they did in trying to accelerate Joanna and Grant’s romance. Those scenes were a hoot by the way!

What I really enjoyed was the dialogs between the two and the wonderful way Grant romanced her in the little things he did to show Joanna how he planned to cherish her! There was, of course a bit of a hiccup in between before they had their happily ever after, but all in all – a TERRIFIC read!

Joanna's Highlander (Highland Protector, #2) by Maeve Greyson I am truly enjoying this series and I as so happy that #NetGalley allowed me to preview this book. SADIE'S HIGHLANDER was a favorite of mine and this a great second book in the series. Grant and Joanna's journey to their HEA and the HEARTSTONE was full of laughs and some tears..I love it when I feel like I'm part of the story. I can't wait for KATIE'S HIGHLANDER.

I voluntarily read an Advance Review Copy of this book through Netgalley. This book is a continuation of the MacDara clan as it thrives in this century after having travel from the 900 hundreds. After a year and a half, Grant has finally decided to see if he and Joanna might have a future together. The book is full of humor, especially with the elderly ladies playing matchmaker. The book is well written and there is a HEA. It is a good read and I would recommend it in this series.

As always a great read by this author! Loved the passion and chemistry and also loved the humor that the book had!

I don't enjoy being the first person to post a negative review, but this book really tested me and I can't honestly say that I liked it.

First of all, the story starts off with an author's note, prologue and some other monologue, all before chapter one. To be honest, my attention started wavering already before the book even got going, but I was determined to soldier on.

I LOVE time-travel romances, and many of my go-to comfort books are time-travel stories (Outlander, The Time Traveler's Wife, A Knight in Shining Armor). However, Joanna's Highlander was just an odd read for me.

The story takes place in modern times with highlanders from the past, and while I love that concept, these men have lived in the present for a number of years before this story began. That's why it was really odd to me that the MC would be confused by some things (like how to talk to women, BRAS, and some basic social customs) but not by others (creating and maintaining an amusement part, CONDOMS, and business). It just wasn't consistent.

Also, on that note, I hate a wishy-washy female MC, and Joanna vacillated between pushing Grant away and getting naked with him. She kept saying she wanted to be professional one minute and then making out with him the next. She was the queen of mixed signals.

But my main trouble was that I had issues even focusing on the story. I skimmed and speed read large chunks of the book, and debated DNFing a time or two. The story wasn't horrible or offensive, but it couldn't maintain my interest. Just didn't quit mesh for me.

Of all the Druid clans, the strongest was the goddesses of the MacDara bloodline. More devoted and trained by the warrior goddess. MacDara men and their sons mastered the four relic weapons sword, hammer, shield and spear. No better archers could be found but MacDara females.

Yet the MacDara clan were gifted with the highest honor. That is to guard and protect the blessed Heartstone. This is an ancient relic that contains a special unique energy that made every human’s life special, unique and worth living. To love, hope, evolve and live, without this gift civilization on earth would not be the same. Plus eventually the world would cease to exist. Yet as time went on the meaning of the stone and the lore was forgotten, lost in the circle of time and the mist. Though not forgotten by all existing by the Druid clans.

The MacDara descendents know exactly the cost. As in the tenth century they were brutally attacked and knows what it nearly cost their existence! Yet the three goddesses save Grant MacDara, his three brothers, his parents, younger sister and bring them to North Carolina in the twenty-first century . The MacDara’s will protect the blessed stone at any cost. As they know they must thrive and never cease to exist! No matter what century the goddesses place them in to save and protect.

14 years later in the future.
North Carolina, present day 2018

Grant MacDara still misses his home and grieving his lost love and unborn child in tenth century Scotland. His heart is so shattered he swears never to be pawn for the Goddesses again. As they were the ones to refuse his marriage and blessing to Leannan in the tenth century. So why should he help them when they wouldnt give him the one thing he wanted most in this world? Yet you can’t fight destiny and time does usually heal all wounds. Does it not?

There is now another woman Joanna Martin whom he wants. The problem is she too has been hurt by men in her past and has major trust issues. She is nothing like Leannan but he wants her badly just the same. The problem is she wants nothing to do with this handsome highlander. She just is focussed on her career and cannot chance to have her heart broke can she?

A fun fast paced delightful read that has some absolutely hilarious characters too! This is the second book in Maeve Greyson’s Highland Protector serie.

I highly recommend you read if you are a fan of second chances at love. A beautiful, enchanting, paranormal, time-travel romance.

Joanna Martin is a tour guide at Highland Life and Legends in North Carolina. She has always felt a pull towards Grant MacDara, but believed that nothing could come of it. She doesn’t trust her instincts towards men since a disastrous relationship cost her a lucrative job. And, Grant is one of the owners of the theme park. Grant finds Joanna very appealing, but he doesn’t know if he wants to risk his heart again after the loss of his former love. When some senior citizens decide to intervene and play cupid, will Grant and Joanna open their hearts to new love?
This is a great paranormal historical romance. I loved the main characters who seemed scarred from previous experiences and needed a boost from their loved ones and some crafty senior citizens. The seniors’ antics put a little humor into the romance and lightened the mood of the story. One of the messages I gleaned was that a happily ever after can be found by anyone with an open heart. Some cursing and crude language was used during certain scenes, but it wasn’t so distracting that I wanted to stop reading. I will read the next Highlander novel. An advanced reader’s copy was provided to me in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book by Maeve Greyson that I have read. I enjoyed this story. I liked the characters, though I would have preferred that they and their romance was more developed. The conflict at the end seemed to come out of the blue - I would have liked there to have been more mention of the issue and the emotional burden that Joanna was under. Overall, this was a quick and entertaining read with humour and love and just a little bit of drama. *I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and this is my voluntary and honest review.

This is the second book in the Highlander Protector series.

Joanna has no luck with men and has decided to focus on her career even though she and Grant have been flirting with each other for over a year. Grant had been in love before and that love had ended badly, but feels something special for Joanna. Joanna knows that she shouldn't become involved with Grant as he is a business associate, but that doesn't stop the sparks from flying.

Even though this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone. It's ironic that the characteristics that draw Joanna and Grant to each other also pull them apart. It was very emotional in some chapters and I literally cried.

I am enjoying the series and can't wait for the next book.

Great 2nd book in the Highlander Protector series. The chemistry between Joanna and Grant was electric. I did get annoyed by Joanna and her reluctance to let Grant in but once her past was revealed, I understood. I also got annoyed with Grant and his unwillingness to accept his role that the gods had for him. The sex was fantastic and I loved the ending.

Book 2 Grant & Joanna loved could not put it down actually stayed up all nite to finish it. I loved the all the back story Grant moodiness because of heartache left in Scotland and Joannas shame because of betrayal in Chicago. With all the added characters there is humor along with the love and sadness. I hope you get this, read it and live it as much as I do. Book 3 can not come fast enough for me. I received this ARC to review from NetGalley.

A good highlander in mordern times story.
Grant and his family was sent forward in time from the (th century in order to protect the Heartstone.
Joanna and Grant had this connection that took them awhile to finally follow through.
Love the ladies from the tour group.
Enjoyed reading.

A great sigh worthy, magical and sometimes funny modern day highlander romance. And I say modern day because the story does take place in the present time but there's a little bit of time traveling at the beginning. I don't want to spoil anything by saying more but just read this book and you'll understand. Grant was the ultimate broody hero, although he wasn't very broody with Joanna. I loved how he was around her. Their journey towards their HEA was cute and had some really fun moments. It was also very hot and sexy too. But Joanna almost messed it all up. I was so mad at her but thankfully this story does end on a happy note so no worries. An overall very satisfying read.

Joanna’s Highlander (Highland Protector #2)⭐️⭐️⭐️
By Maeve Greyson

I did read book #1 in this series and enjoyed it very much. This story, however, just could not hold my attention.
I’m not sure if it was Grant or Joanna but I felt something was missing.

I am an avid time travel/highlander reader but this theme park with all these resettled time travelers is beyond me.
