Let’s get this clear from the start. I love Robert Dugonis writing style and I haven’t read a book of his yet that disappoints.

Here in the 6th outing for Tracy Crosswhite, she is covering up the fact that she is pregnant for the time being as she continues with her work. She is called out to a missing persons report, which makes up half the story here. The other half is taken up by the investigation by the other half of her team of a woman being murdered in broad day light, suspected to be a victim of local drug lords as she campaigned against them.

The dual story here is perfectly balanced and both so vividly told. Both are very interesting and one doesn’t outweigh the other in interest or intrigue, so when you switch from one to the other you aren’t getting frustrated and wanting to get back to the first story. The whole book was just a joy to read.

Tracy is one of the standout female detective characters out there today. There are many of them and there are many of them I read and it can be hard to keep track. I hadn’t read a Crosswhite novel in a while but into the first chapter and I was already totally familiar with the character again and her back story.

The rest of her team get plenty of time here and are just as well written and 3 dimensional characters. They are all a pleasure to spend time with and you really care what happens to them.

I just can find any negatives in this book. If anything I was sorry when it ended. I remember looking at my kindle and I was 90% done and I couldn’t believe there was only 10% left. I felt like I was only half way through such was my enjoyment. I’m sure there will be a book by Dugoni that won’t do it for me(I’ve read some of his stand alones as well as this series) but I’ve yet to read it. If you’ve read and enjoyed this series so far you are in for a real treat here.

Many thanks to Netgalley, Thomas & Mercer and Robert Dugoni for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love the Tracy Crosswhite series. And from the feel of the book, this might be the last one. Even though it is a series, you can read it without reading the others. But the other books are really good , so my opinion is to read them as well. Like always there are 2 different crimes being investigated and Tracy's team member Vic Fazzio is having his own moment to shine is this book. Vic is investigating a murder of a community activist, when someone from from a past case is involved. Things turn wrong and he now being investigated for a wrong doing that wasn't his fault. To make matters worse, his personal life is falling apart.
Tracy is finally pregnant and not telling anybody and when she goes to work one day, there is another woman added to their team and she feels like she is being replaced and realizes that she is unsure if she wants to return to work after having the baby. She is working a disappearance of a woman who was estrange from her family and after much digging , fighting against an arrange marriage and traditional family values. As Tracy continues to investigate, she sees that there is more to the missing young woman.
If this is the last of the series, it ended well and I don't get the sense of that's it. It has a wonderful ending and it's perfect. Well almost... I do not like Tracy's boss and I wish something was done about him. That's it.

I’m so happy every time I have a new Tracy Crosswhite book to read! My affair with this series began back in 2014 and I don’t think it will ever end. Robert Dugoni is one of my favorite authors and I hope we can continue enjoying his books for a very long time.

This time, the book had two different cases, one where Tracy (and Kins, although he wasn’t featured much) investigated the disappearance of a young Indian girl. And the other, where Faz and the new team member, Gonzalez, dealt with a case about drugs cartels and the shooting of an activist. Honestly, I found the two cases equally exciting and although maybe at first I was more interested in Kavita’s disappearance, the truth is that the Little Jimmy case started getting more and more complicated and at some point, I had no idea of what was going on. Which is always great.

I loved that Faz and Vera had bigger roles in this book, as did Del in the last installment. But I missed Kins, obviously. He’s my favorite. Also, Tracy in this book is pregnant and trying to conceal it, although she’s not having much success with that 😉 When I reached the ending I was momentarily scared because it all felt very “happy ending” and I was afraid the series had ended, but then I read there’s another book coming out in December, so… Thank you!

The Tracy Crosswhite books by Robert Dugoni are always smart mysteries with a strong focus on the procedural as well as the characters. And this one was no different. I definitely liked it better than the #5, which was my least favorite out of the six. I have to admit though, even if there’s one book in this series that I don’t enjoy as much, I still like them way better than others. My love for Tracy is strong!

I first want to thank by Robert Dugoni Thomas & Mercer for my arc of A Steep Price
The Tracy Crosswhite Series, Book 6. I have read the entire series and inhaled the two books before this one so I could have a complete picture. I loved that the author gave us a happy ending for Tracy as she got her baby which is awesome and I also loved that the focus shifted to more the “A Team” rather than just Tracy. The story has two well-paced stories that flow well making this a true page turner. There is lots crammed into one book and it is all amazing a little of what you can look forward to. There is a little of  gang violence, arranged marriages, escorts, online dating, technology being used for tracking, pregnant working moms, cancer. I might not even have listed it all. There always are multiple issues in these books. Yet, Dugoni always finds a way to weave it all together. I think if you have the time then you can defiantly finish this in one sitting it is that good. Four stars from me hoping to read much more from this series and this author.

A fresh and engaging book, which can easily act as a stand-alone, although I do recommend the others in the series for readers wanting to fill in some of the backstory. This book opens with two other members of the violent crimes unit, Vic Fazzio and Del Castigliano who respond to a nail-biting homicide in a high crime neighborhood with the footprints of cartel dealings. The book is constructed with dual storylines; the second where Detective Tracy Crosswhite, Seattle Violent Crimes Unit, who has been sitting in a homicide trial in King County Superior Court, now has to deal with a missing person found in an abandoned well. For me, the Fazzio and Castigliano team carry the book, which may have been the author’s intention but I was expecting a little more of Tracy since it is her series. It was also hard to keep track of who was who with so many names and subplots. Nevertheless, it still carries the same Dugoni tune. Masterfully written, richly nuanced and entirely compelling.
Many thanks to Thomas and Mercer and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book.

Sixth in the Tracy Crosswhite series, Robert Dugoni ventures a bit further a field in “A Steep Price”. This book focused less on Crosswhite and either her partner or her husband, relying more on the other members of Violent Crimes’ “A Team” of detectives – Del and Faz.

As with all Dugoni’s Crosswhite books, the stories – of which there are two – are well developed and thought out. The case involving Crosswhite is inspired by actual new articles the author read and elected to weave into a sad tale of family drama and murder. Del’s and Faz’s story plays out in cities across the country and certainly up and down the I-5 corridor on a daily basis. Even still, both stories were fresh and engaging, quickly absorbing the reader’s attention. The local details of the area will be appreciated by anyone familiar with the greater Seattle area.
The book leaves Dugoni an “out” on where he chooses to take the future of Crosswhite and her friends. How he elects to proceed will be quite anticipated.

Robert Dugoni is an author you can count on to deliver exceptional work. Everything he writes is so well-honed: his characters are richly drawn, fully human and flawed; his plots are always intriguing; he covers multiple current subject matters in each book; his writing is just a pleasure to read. A Steep Price (#6 in the Tracy Crosswhite series) is no exception. It is a very good read!

Detective Tracy Crosswhite of the Seattle Police Department Violent Crimes Unit, squad A, is wrapping up a court case in which she is testifying. She's 16 weeks pregnant, though no one at work knows. Except, somehow, new-to-the-squad, Detective Andrea Gonzalez, who asks her about it. Tracy wonders if her Captain (who has never liked Tracy) also knows and has brought Gonzalez in as her replacement when she takes maternity leave.

Tracy's friend, Detective Katie Pryor in the Missing Persons Unit calls to ask her opinion on a case. A college-aged Indian girl, Kavita Mukherjee, who is headed to medical school, has disappeared and Katie has a bad feeling about it. After talking with her, Tracy agrees that this doesn't sound like a typical missing persons case and agrees to help Katie look into it, but only if she keeps it on the down-low so that her boss, Captain Nolasco doesn't have another reason to bust her chops. He doesn't want her spending time on a missing person until there is evidence of foul-play. It turns out that Kavita was, in fact, murdered, and, after a turf war, Tracy is given the go-ahead to see the case through. This was a good story line accenting the differences in the Indian and American cultures regarding family dynamics and expectations.

Detectives Vic Fazzio and Del Castigliano of the Violent Crimes unit are really highlighted in this book. They are working the murder in broad daylight of a young, black, mother of two, activist against the gangs, drugs and violence in her South Park neighborhood. This case brings them into direct and dangerous contact with the Surano Cartel led by Little Jimmy, who rules the area by intimidation and violence. When the Del takes a sick day, Fazzio partners with Detective Garcia for a non-interview of a possible witness to the shooting; the witness ends up dead at the hands of one of the detectives and an investigation is launched.

As always, with Dugoni's books, there is no shortage of action or topics (in this book, arranged marriages, pregnancy, working moms, office politics, cancer, drugs, escort services, online dating and tracking technology to name a few). I also like that, with each book in the series, we get to know more about each of the detectives on the squad. In this book, Vic Fazzio's relationship with his wife, Vera, is especially touching.

A thoroughly enjoyable read - I highly recommend it! And in case you haven't read any of the series to date, this book stands well on its own.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Thomas and Mercer for allowing me to read and review this book.

A Steep Price is the latest entry in the Tracy Crosswhite series by Robert Dugoni. I love this series as I think it is very well written, with a strong female lead character. This book is no different. In fact, I think each book gets better, The main characters are the same, Detective Tracy Crosswhite and her fellow detectives, her husband and her pets! I think they become more interesting with each book. The storyline is very good and engaging. I had a hard time putting the book down. If you enjoy mysteries, police procedures, or suspense, then this book is for you! I highly recommend it!

A reat police procedural mystery. Two unrelated murders, gangs , drugs, and religion give this book a little of everything. I could not put this one down as it flipped from one investigation to another. Love the characters and all the twists.

This book was much more about the characters stories and relationships which made it a quick read. .

In this sixth book in the series we find Tracy not having told anyone at work about her pregnancy. She looks at a missing person case which gets her involved in that. A young lady of Indian descent who wants to be living her life as an American with the freedom it brings and her mother wanting to arrange a marriage and do things the way they would in India. At the same time Del & Faz are working on a case they think involves "Little Jimmy".A mother is shot in front of her apartment by a drive by shooter. Can these be solved in the limited time they have? Always a good story when Robert Dugoni is involved.

I have read only one book by Robert Dugoni, the Extraordinary Life of Same Hell and it was exceptional. I loved it. Thinking the genre of A Steep Price was so different I had slight trepidation when I opened the latest in the Tracy Crosswhite Series. As the expression goes, “no worries”, Dugoni writes crime, murder and high suspense extraordinarily well.

This book stands alone and while reading the previous five books in the series would obviously fill in some of the back story I never felt adrift. The characters were credible, both in their police and private lives. Tracy Crosswhite and her partner Kinsington Rowe become involved in a missing person’s case which delves into ethnic, parental and feminist issues. Detectives Del Castigliano and Vic Fazzio have their own subplot and it was a nail-biter. A personal subplot examines a devastating situation confronting the Fazzios.

As I was reading I kept telling my husband that this has to be his next go-to series. The story is interesting and fast moving, the characters are human and interesting and the writing is terrific. No doubt about it – I am going to read the five previous books as I look forward to Book Number 7.

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for an ARC

Thanks to a Netgalley, Thomas and Mercer publishing and most of all Robert Dugoni . I love every Tracey Crosswhite book I’ve read and will continue to read everyone this author writes. The characters are interesting and the storylines keep me reading into the night. Each book is better then the last, if that’s even possible ! This is my favorite one yet. I can’t wait for the next one !
My reviews are on Amazon, Goodreads, Twitter, Facebook and any bookstore I’m in , I talk to everyone about this series !

Thank you to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for an e-ARC of A Steep Price by Robert Dugoni in exchange for an honest review. This novel is the sixth in the series featuring homicide detective Tracy Crosswhite. However, it can easily be read as a standalone. What makes this murder mystery interesting are the dual storylines: Tracy investigates a missing person case while another detective in her department, Vic Fazzio, investigates the murder of a community activist. The author moves seamlessly between the two cases, maintaining the attention of the reader throughout. This was my first Robert Dugoni but it will not be the last. The author proves to be exceptional when it comes to police procedurals. Highly recommended.

I first want to thank netgalley and the author for an advanced kindle copy of my book! I loved this book! I know this is the sixth book In this series , this is the first book I have read in this series so I was nervous starting the book and not know what what was going on . I got hooked by the first chapter I was introduced to two detectives investigating a murder of a mom who spoke against drugs and violence in her neighborhood her murder is being investigated by detective Faz and Del. The other murder being investigated is the murder of a young Indian woman found dead at the bottom of a well and her murder is being investigated by detective Tracy who is hiding her pregnancy from her precinct.
I loved that there were two mystery’s Iin this book and that all the detecivoes work for the same precinct and they have there own back story. Definitely two thumbs up for me.

EXCERPT: The daylight had nearly extinguished, the forest now an ever-deepening gray. It was time to go home.

Something moved. She turned.

Something in the brush. She turned again, then a third time. Something circling her.

She turned yet again, but saw only the trees, straight and tall, like darkened sentries. She fought to hold her breath, struggling to listen. The crickets clicked and the unseen insects buzzed. A light breeze caught the limbs of the trees, causing them to moan and creak. A bullfrog croaked.

She took another deep breath, exhaled, and turned to leave.

ABOUT THIS BOOK: Called in to consult after a young woman disappears, Tracy Crosswhite has the uneasy feeling that this is no ordinary missing-persons case. When the body turns up in an abandoned well, Tracy’s suspicions are confirmed. Estranged from her family, the victim had balked at an arranged marriage and had planned to attend graduate school. But someone cut her dreams short.

Solving the mystery behind the murder isn’t Tracy’s only challenge. The detective is keeping a secret of her own: she’s pregnant. And now her biggest fear seems to be coming true when a new detective arrives to replace her. Meanwhile, Tracy’s colleague Vic Fazzio is about to take a fall after his investigation into the murder of a local community activist turns violent and leaves an invaluable witness dead.

Two careers are on the line. And when more deadly secrets emerge, jobs might not be the only things at risk.

MY THOUGHTS: 3.5 stars

For some reason A Steep Price failed to excite me like the other books in this series, which I have followed from the beginning, did.

Multiple Choice - pick one or more options from the following list -
(a) Lacks the action and suspense of previous books in the series.
(b) I'm tired, as is the series.
(c) Having alternating chapters, each dealing with one of the two cases, was distracting. Life doesn't work like that. Usually things overlap and run into one another.
(d) There was something missing. The characters all felt flat. . .
(e) I don't generally enjoy reading about drug running and gangs.

There are no wrong answers. All apply for me.

This should have worked for me. Dugoni makes a good job of misdirecting the reader. There is plenty of human interest in the plot, which is current and relevant. Strangely enough, I found the acknowledgements to be more interesting than the actual book. I enjoyed reading about how Dugoni had come to write this book after he had read separate articles about arranged marriages and sugar dating.

In retrospect, I think that this book would have benefited from Dugoni sticking to the one storyline within the plot and writing about it in more depth. The whole drug/gang scenario only served to muddy the waters and detract from what could have been an excellent story.

Book 6 of the Tracy Crosswhite series has Tracy working with her young protégé and hiding a secret from her team. Del and Fazzio are working a separate case which gives them a lot of page time and action in this book. Another well written "Tracy" book by Mr. Dugoni, and in my humble opinion, a nice wrap up to the series. If there are more to come, I think I would be disappointed.

**Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley in exchange of an honest opinion.**

A special thanks to Robert Dugoni, Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for providing me with a digital ARC of A STEEP PRICE (TRACY CROSSWHITE #6), which allows me to write an unbiased review.

It was wonderful to meet up again with Del Castigliano, Vic (Faz) Fazzio, Kinsington Rowe and Tracy Crosswhite, Seattle homicide detectives of the A team and find out what is going on in their lives at work and home.
The talented Robert Dugoni, master in the art of character development, has given them their own personalities, significant others, quirks, and shows how they care for each other and work well together. It was like reconnecting with old friends.
Del and Faz were investigating the shooting of an African American woman shot in broad daylight while outside with her children in South Park. She was a would-be activist known for speaking to the city council and advocating against gangs and drugs in the community.
Tracy was at court for an important trial and investigating a missing persons report "off the books".
I was totally immersed in this suspenseful page turner. It kept me on the edge of my seat. There were surprises, secrets, red herrings and just the right amount of twists and turns. I wanted to read quickly to find out what was happening and at the same time wanted this novel to go on and on.
I like the way Robert Dugoni makes the story relevant by including current social issues such as racial prejudices, poverty, cultural differences, sugar dating, gangs and drugs.
This well written book can easily be read as a standalone. Personally, I advise you to read the series, starting with the first book My Sister's Grave, to get the full experience and background of these characters.
Robert Dugoni is one of my favourite authors and I look forward to reading his next mystery in the Tracy Crosswhite series.

Incredibly suspenseful and terrifying at the same time. When you read this, you associate it with documentaries of the mentioned gang in this book, and you can see every scene in this story playing out in startling contrast.

I got quite finished with what state(s) were involved as I found the author tended to switch quite quickly and where I’m not from the states, I got a bit befuddled. Also, I found the characters liked to repeat what they say in the same sentence and it could be quite irritating.

This is the first book in the Tracy Crossewhite series, and first of any from this author, and I got completely engrossed. Each page held something new and exciting and the chapter ending always left me wanting more. There’s no ‘just one more chapter’ while reading this. You have a compulsion to carry on. To finish. To suck in every word on every page... completely captivating.

I loved how this author introduced the Indian culture in this story, and how informative he was with writing it too. There was no judging, but understanding and I loved that he pulled it off so so well with absolutely no intent on discriminating or offending the culture. It was stunningly written and really gives the reader the feel for arranged marriages, and what it entails.

The ending.. what can I say about this ending? It was astonishing. Mind blowing. Intense and totally unexpected which I LOVED in crime novels. This one certainly delivered a whopper of a conclusion and that’s why I can’t wait to dig into the series from the very beginning.

Apart from finding myself a little confused and the characters knack for repetition, I adored this book and highly recommend.
